CLIFFDIVER are back and you're gonna be in trouble! I'm so stoked to bring you today my second episode with one of my favorite bands, this time featuring the new voice, and addition to the band, Briana Wright. She, along with co-vocalist Joey Duffy, are giving us the rundown on their debut album, Exercise Your Demons. We of course hit on bringing a second vocalist to the band and how everything just clicked together with it. With deeply personal lyrics being part of CLIFFDIVER's signature style there was definitely some opening up to each other that needed to be done, but once they realized the combined story they were telling they were off the the races. We discuss losing yourself fully to the band and your bandmates, applying your own value to others' lyrics, and the light within some of the darkest moments on the album.

Today I'm talking to Posture & The Grizzly for the first new episode of Fly On The Call in a hot minute! The band has always flown a bit under the radar, while gathering an extremely dedicated fan base, but they are clear: they're in it for the long haul. We're discussing taking your time to allow music to happen organically, the setbacks, triumphs, and, of course, the process of their self titled LP 3. The band is wrapping up a tour with two Virginia shows, as DC show, and Philly in the next few days so if you're in the area and looking to hit up a sweet punk show, they've got you covered!

Pictoria Vark's The Parts I Dread is one hell of a debut. Intentional, spacious, and intimate, this bass-centered music doesn't quite have a singular point of comparison - but that just makes it even better. Our conversation hits on this unique space her music fills, using additional instrumentation to further storytelling, balancing her solo work while being a hired bassist for touring bands, and a whole lot more.

Proper. have done it again - they dropped the best album of their career with The Great American Novel. Bringing in issues of identity, race, sex, and life in the 21st century this record is an in your face assessment of Erik Garlington's inner thoughts. And he's returning for the first time since the very first episode of Fly On The Call to break down the album, writing with Dan Campbell of The Wonder Years, being difficult to work with, being in a band that does exactly what they want, and a whole lot more. Check it out now, along with the other new episode that dropped today with UK punk band Brutalligators.

For the first of two new episodes today we're hopping over to the UK to talk to Brutalligators. They're a punk band with an edge and a healthy dose of emo, in the vein of PUP, Spanish Love Songs, or Latterman. Their debut LP, This house is too big, this house is too small, is not your average break-up record - it's a cohesive journey through grief, mental health, inclusion, and identity. So give it a spin, enjoy the episode, and check out the other new episode where the very first guest of Fly On The Call, Proper., returns!

Absolution, out tomorrow, is an absolute heater and a level-up for Riverby in just about every way. From changes in sonic palette, to a more collaborative process, and working with Jim Wert in the studio Absolution is all about making the music the band wants and making it sound the best it can. We're talking all that as well as accidentally creating a concept album, the plans for the Riverby cinematic universe, and more.

Today's conversation is with Jaypitts - the first hip hop artist to come on the show. As a jack of all content trades, he's worked for years to not just create music he is passionate about, but also find an audience who connects with him on a deep level. Whether it's been music, TikTok, YouTube, or any other path, he has sought a way to use it to his benefit. Now he is in a position where he has reached a level of success that allows him to step back a bit and focus more on his role as an artist. We're talking all about his journey, his new single, "Butterflies", and all the exciting plans for 2022.

saint judas is a newly collaborative solo project that falls somewhere on the folky, vibey side of emo. Their new EP, a terrible year, builds on the previous releases while showing a side of the band that could not have come to be without the DIY community. Each week features a Candid Conversation on Music, focusing on deep dives that take a natural path through genuine passion and curiosity. I'm your host, Scott Fugger, and my goal is to make you just as big of a fan of these musicians as I am. I talk to bonafide rock stars like The Wonder Years and Silverstein, artists destined to be the next big thing like Meet Me At the Altar and Bartees Strange, and bands who are doing it all themselves making some of the best music you may have never heard.

We finally made it, it's time to celebrate! And how better to mark the one hundred episode and two year milestone than with a conversation with one of my favorite current artists? And a new theme song he composed to boot! That's right, today I'm talking once again to Jhariah, who in the last year has come incredibly far. The recently released, A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO FAKING YOUR DEATH, puts an exclamation point at the end of his current era collecting his newest singles as well as reimaginings of some old favorites. A Tiger Made of Lightning released one of my songs of 2020 with their debut single "exhausted". It encompassed what so many of us were feeling, with a strong, passionate sound, and without pulling any punches. At the same time there was an undercurrent of positivity that served as a reminder that not everything was shit. That positivity is brought even further in the follow-up single and the soon to be released debut EP, "It's Chaos, Be Kind." Today we're discussing the project's origin, the message, the transition from solo project to full band, and what's to come.

Arms Like Roses came together in an almost spur of the moment way and even the band themselves are almost surprised at how far they've come. Their debut EP, Get Some Sleep, melds classic emo and post-hardcore sounds with a plethora of other genres, eventually leading to a more concise vision for LP1, which is currently being finished up. The band just released an acoustic follow-up EP, Past Midnight, and have hit the ground running now that they are able to play shows again. We're talking about their initial formation, the effect the pandemic had on their writing process, and much more.

Telethon are back! I say this both referring to the fact that they were one of the first guests on Fly On The Call, way back in episode two, and that they just released their ripper of a new record, Swim Out Past The Breakers. For those unfamiliar with the band, they are a hard rockin', poppin', genre swappin' good ole time! As we come to an end of the first week of this two week celebration of Fly On The Call, I'm stoked to bring you my conversation with The Spins. Last year, The Big Easy captured the sound of a DIY basement show when they were not possible. The Long Year and its post-script single, "All Saints Day", can't be pigeonholed into a single genre, but instead by a mindset. They hyper-personal lyricism combined with a melting pot of sounds leads to a unique and cohesive experience. On the first of two episodes of Fly On The Call today we discuss the album as a project that has now become its own tangible thing, capturing the lofi sound and energy without sacrificing quality, how the band is continuing to make sure things stay fresh, and more.

In the first of three episodes this week, I am talking to Baby Boys. Their debut full length, Threesome, is a challenging, but worthwhile listen. The band, made up of Jake Luppen and Nathan Stocker of Hippo Campus and rounded out with Caleb Hinz, has one simple rule: say "yes" to everything. This leads to plenty of improvisation, risk taking, and an overall unhinged feel to the music. It was a ton of fun to unpack the lightning speed combined writing/recording process and get to the core of what makes this band so unique.

Today on Fly On The Call I'm talking to Leafing, a mathy emo band from Brooklyn. At the start of 2021, they released their debut full-length, which came together during the early stages of the pandemic. While the band had played a couple of shows before things ground to a halt, the album was created together in isolation with the members forced to adapt and learn how to share ideas and create a cohesive work of art without being physically in the same space. This dual creative constriction/freedom clearly paid off because not only did they make a great record, they also wrote a large portion of another. Tune in to hear all about it!

Really From released their self-titled album last month and it is a doozy. Blending together elements of emo, indie, math rock, and jazz, the band puts just as much focus on the silences. Their only goal is to develop their talents and allow them to guide the way, rather than chasing a specific sound. And the product of that is a record that truly stands as a piece of art. We dive deep on the album, investing in yourself, creating a sound that is huge, and a whole lot more. TOLEDO are a band not boxed in by genre, taking parts from a number of pop and rock influences to create lush sounds that transport the listener to somewhere else. Future Teens are fresh off the release of their EP, Deliberately Alive, which is the follow-up to an album that has been on extremely heavy rotation for me over the last year, Breakup Season. Today's episode of Fly On The Call features my conversation with Will Wood. For fans of theatrical rock in the vein of Forgive Durden's Razia's Shadow, My Chemical Romance, or Panic! Led by protest singer Derek Zanetti, these songs address real issues from a activist perspective, engaging listeners rather than falling into sad sack territory. The Homeless Gospel Choir's music exemplifies true punk ethos, the sincerity of which becomes even more clear throughout this conversation.

Over the past nearly fifteen years, The Wonder Years have seen amazing growth musically, personally, and of their fanbase. They have gone from a band that started out as a literal joke to one that so many people connect to very strongly, and it has been a pleasure to be along for the ride. Having outgrown a straight pop punk genre label years ago The Wonder Years have most recently released a second volume of Burst & Decay, which has the band reimagining songs from across their career in a more stripped down context. To go along with this, the tour whose second half is currently being rescheduled has the band playing two sets each night - one acoustic and one electric. These two current accomplishments showcase the band's creativity and desire to explore their music in all directions, something which is both beneficial both for their career and for the fans who embrace it. I was able to discuss all of this and more with lead singer Dan Campbell in an interview that was a dream come true.

Spanish Love Songs put out my number one album of 2018 with Schmaltz and now they're back for more with its follow up - Brave Faces Everyone. The band has certainly not done the same thing twice, diving deeper into a cohesive punk sound, expanding their lyrical content to take on world issues through a personal lens, and doubling down on making a career out of meaningful connections with their fans. There is nothing phoned in about Spanish Love Songs (except this conversation, literally). Listen to Brave Faces Everyone available everywhere and catch the band as they tour across the US with The Wonder Years, Free Throw, and Pool Kids!

Fly On The Call has officially reached the double digits! And what better way to celebrate than by doing a ten year retrospective on one of my favorite albums of all time, Silverstein's A Shipwreck in the Sand? The band recently wrapped up the recording of their ninth studio album and will be embarking on a worldwide your early next year to celebrate 20 years as a band! This album, though, stands out as a turning point in Silverstein's career where the band doubled down in many respects, with this being their first concept album and still one of their heaviest. Please enjoy this conversation with Shane Told on the album, its conception, the recording process, and much, much more. This is a trip back to 2009 and a celebration of an album that hits just as hard to day is it did then.
As a thank you for all the support with hitting 10 episodes and 500 plays, I am running a giveaway of Fly On The Call Prize packs. And one lucky winner will also receive a copy of A Shipwreck in the Sand in the format of their choosing.
