Connection, when fostered in an environment that is supportive, understanding, and valued, has the ability to reach deep into our souls and change us in ways we may never have thought possible. We are Kirsten Brockner and Alexis Morgan. Our mission is to help women cultivate connection with one another. We are building a community through female voices. Each week we share our stories, triumphs and struggles on our journey to becoming the women, wives, mothers, and friends we yearn to be. We include the insights and knowledge we are discovering and learning that make our lives more meaningful. We hope our stories, and those of our guests, will encourage you to share your story with those around you. We hope to foster deeper relationships with the people we love. We are eager to share our journey with you!
Today’s episode is a very important one. Today's special guest is Ranie Evans.
Ranie Evans courageously shares her journey losing her son Branden, who died by suicide just a few short years ago. Her sister Collette Brunson also joined Kirsten for this difficult discussion. Ranie talks us through the heartache no parent ever wants to experience……
Through the darkness, she decided to create more light. She shares how she started her nonprofit organization BE TREE...Committed to raising awareness around Mental Health and creating connection through community. Ranie is dedicated to talking openly about mental health. Talking is the first step. She shares her experience freely with others. She teaches at schools, as well as brings people together for yoga, while having therapists and resources available for those in need. Ranie is doing amazing things!!
Ranie shares the story how Branden had carved into an Aspen tree the “Life and HIPS”. She later found out what it meant: “Life & Hidden in plain sight”. He was fiercely loved with a beautiful life; yet, felt hidden in plain sight.
+How can you support someone struggling?
+What can you do if you are having feelings of hopelessness?
+How can you explore the beauty of breath and being still
+How does yoga help process emotions? How has it helped Ranie?
+Where to find support?
+How does grief change you?
+What are things you can do to help those grieving
This episode is for everyone! Ranie shares so many wonderful ideas we can all do right now to help our own mental health.
KEEP GOING…..We need YOU here.
You are NOT alone. No feeling is bigger than you.
“Here I am and there I always was”
This episode is Dedicated to Branden Evans.
We would love if you could tag be_tree_foundation on instagram everytime you see a beautiful tree and are reminded of Branden's story...reminder of the ripple affects of his life and the impact he has helping others. Thank you.

As adult children leave the home and transition into independent lives, it's a significant moment for both parents and children. Here are some pieces of advice for parents during this transition:
Embrace Change, Maintain Communication, Respect Their Independence, Offer Emotional Support, Celebrate Their Achievements, Create New Traditions, Foster Your Own Interests, Maintain Healthy Boundaries, Seek Support, Focus on Your Relationship, and Stay Positive.
Instead of dwelling on the empty nest, focus on the positive aspects of this transition. Reflect on the successful upbringing you provided and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead for both you and your children.
Remember that every family is unique, and this transition will unfold in its own way. By approaching it with understanding, support, and a positive attitude, you can navigate this phase while strengthening your relationships with your adult children.

Kirsten is back with a guest, friend, and colleague to talk all about High Point Market! Kirsten & Kristy both own their own Interior Design Firms and thought it would be fun to share the inside scoop on their recent work trip to High Point, North Carolina. They share all the details on what exactly is High Point Market and why they invest in going each year. They also chat about "celebrity" influencers/designers that go and what Interior Design Trends they saw, and why there really is something for every "style". __________________________________ More on today's guest Kristy Weyhrich: Kristy spent the last 25 years working as a graphic designer to create great branding for businesses and now she is turning her attention to helping individuals with their personal brands — manifested in unique interiors and styling.
She also draw on her degree in art and architectural history (Bryn Mawr College), her design degree (California College of the Arts) and four years working in San Francisco-based architecture firms to create memorable and meaningful spaces for living and working.
Kristy is not all business. She has a great sense of humor, an empathetic approach and really treasures the relationships that she builds with her clients.
She grew up in Boise and I lives there with her husband Josh and menagerie of two dogs and two cats.

We are back!! Monique (the french lady) joined Kirsten in this oh so good episode talking about the concept of slowing down. What does it mean to "Live Slowly?"
In todays world we are always told to want more, do more, be more, have more....and only then will we be happy. How can we take simple steps to slow down whatever phase of life we are in?
Monique talks about her health diagnosis that forced her to make changes in her life. She shares with us her inspiration for her instagram account called Motustardus- which means slow in Latin. She says, "Life brought me exactly what I needed".
Kirsten shares about a book she read recently that talks about this concept called 'Chasing Slow'. In it the auther says," Many of us have come to a point in life where we feel weary. We have burdened ourselves with possessions, packed social calendars, busy work schedules- loads that are far too heavy to carry-yet we grip them with clenched hands."
Maybe we need to stop trying to paddle fast enough to outswim our sadness.

Today Jen and Kirsten interview a special guest!
At age 60 Kathy Holzer:
A competitive athlete turned PE teacher and coach for over 30 years- in a quest for creativity, picked up a keyboard, which led to a $2.50 watercolor set, which led to her discovering that she was an artist.
As an artist she has learned how to practice living without judgment,
Create without the fear of failure,
And the discipline of learning the technical aspects of art.
All while giving back to the community and inspiring others to do the same.
“To become human is to become visible. “
To put your art out into the world is to become highly visible.
We want to hear your takeaways from this episode.
Let us know!

Monique is here (recording from France!) with Kirsten talking all about the importance of spending time with girlfriends and time for yourself.
When we can prioritize connecting with other women in a deep and meaningful way, we share, unwind, and can breathe deeply for a moment...taking the weight off of our chest.
Women are so often the heart of the home, pouring so much of themselves into their homes, children, significant others, work, etc. It can get heavy at times.
We need longer time blocks where we have NOTHING to take care of but ourselves. Time that we think only of ourselves. This is how we recharge and are filled back up again to give more fully and from a good place.
Why does it seem so hard for women to take the time away?
Why do we struggle to let go of our responsibilities?
The kids and family WILL survive without you and teaching your kids to be self sufficient is a good thing.
Being able to transport yourself away from your normal everday life is important for renewal....Having a moment to have your own thoughts, listen, and be quiet.
Women understand women and the loads we carry, with much compassion for each other.
Don't forget the importance of making an effort with friendships. Priorize taking time for friends!

Have you ever wondered what a girls trip to the French Riviera would be like?
Join us today as Monique shares about her latest vacation with her girlfriends to the Riviera. She lives just a short drive from the either coast. How would that be?!
We talk French vacations. July & August are months to avoid the Mediterranean because of all the travelers. The Irish, the Germans, the Danish, etc. all go at this time for their summer vacations.
They visited villas, gardens, terraces, a rock hill medieval village perched high(Eze), and more. They even ventured over the border to Italy for some Italian hot chocolate. (think creamy and super thick)
Tea time, shopping, flower market, and sight seeing. (The Riviera is all about the ocean views)
Vacations are important to the French...3 weeks in the summer with the family and short girls trips as often as possible...Taking time for yourself is prioritized. They are so great at "Chilling"
Monique will be here again for the next 2 episodes!

Today Gina (breakup and relationship coach) is talking with Kirsten about expectations in relationships.
Do we ALL really want to learn more about relationships? ...hehe
What expectations should we have or not have?
What enneagram types have the highest expectations?
Are expectations for men the same as women?
Setting expectations in advance is important in relationships. Then re-evaluate regularly.
Next time with Gina we will be talking about the struggles for each type
Reach out if you would like to be on our upcoming series where we interview someone from each different Enneagram type.

Kirsten had such a great time welcoming back former guest Jessica Frew! (Episode #23!)
They talk about the massive impact she has been able to have by sharing her story on her successful podcast "Husband in Law” that she records with her husband, Matt, and her ex-husband, Steve. On it they are share their stories of love, marriage, coming out, divorce, remarriage and co-parenting to help others know they are not alone.
Jessica shares with Kirsten some behind the scenes about the start of her podcast and how and why it started...they talk about how men sharing their feelings openly (along with Jessica) is not typical, but very empowering.
She now is devoted to helping people figure out the “What NOW?!” after betrayal. Jessica is a firm believer that by knowing and understanding what it is you really want in life you can BOLDly create a life you love, no matter what your circumstances.

Sharing Her Journey is SO excited to welcome Monique Hale to the podcast as one of our permanent MONTHLY co-hosts. This woman has lived many lives...both in America and France. She is admirable in so many ways, and has handled her journey with grace and beauty. Oh, and she is kindly blunt and funny too!
Monique was born and raised in France with many brothers and sisters. She was raised in a strict home where her father exposed her to nature, art, architecture, and travels. Her mother encouraged her and her siblings in all of their ambitions. After high school, she spent a year in America...which she had always wanted to discover! Monique then decided to stay and pursue studies in Interior Design. {This is where she meets Kirsten:}
After spending nearly 2 decades in the USA, she moved back home to France so her children would grow in her beautiful culture and language. After leaving her husband, she stayed in France because of the great support system she has there.
Monique loves to express herself through art by drawing, taking pictures, composing floral arrangements, or decorating interiors.
Each decade of life, has brought its own set of challenges and truths. Her forties have been the most revealing years.
Monique also invests in small real estate properties in France, to plan for the future and she has created her own line of textiles.

We just loved our conversation with Annie! She is genuine, open, and oh so wise.
Annie Tevelin is an entrepeneur, and founder of Skin Owl. Her skin care line was created as a result of her own journey with cystic acne. Instead of going on Accutane, she went back to school to study Cosmetic Chemistry and began formulating products that eventually healed her skin. What was originally a journey to help her skin eventually became the catalyst to helping hundreds of others with their most stubborn skin issues. If Annie had never had acne, she never would have created SkinOwl.
+We dive deep into Annie's journey to creating skin owl.
+Her why for moving to Boise from LA.
+Her passion for bringing people together in conversation
+How her podcast 'OFF the Record' brings meaningful conversation into the world.
+We are so inspired by her Parliament Project! (She created an intimate in person dinner series to aid and reestablish each individual's connection with themselves.)
+If you live in the Boise area you MUST go get pampered in her store!

This episode is a re-release with new bonus thoughts and takeaways from Kirsten & Alexis in the begining and end.
We wanted our new listeners and others who may have missed this one, to have a foundation of what the enneagram is all about in preparation for our FIRST in-person event! We could not be more excited about this happening in Meridian, ID. on September 9th. We talk about more details in the podcast. We hope to meet some of our local listeners at this event and also introduce new people to the enneagram!
____________________________________________________________
What is the Enneagram anyway?
It is a system of personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. It is essentially what motivates you versus your behavior. It has 9 personality types and maps each of these on a diagram.
The original episode is with Collette, Nicole, Kirsten, and enneagram expert Ashton Whitmoyer-Ober. (She has become even more famous since our interview last year thanks to our friend Glennon Doyle!)
-She talks about how to use the enneagram as a TOOL to become a better version of yourself. It can help you realize why you (and others) do things the way that they do. We can use it to grow into who we were created to be and improve realtionships.

We had such a wonderful, real talk with Bunmi Laditan... aka the woman behind 'The Honest Toddler'.
Her remarkable Journey began young:
*We talk about the internal split she felt as an immigrant and a 1st generation American.
*Bunmi shares how for a period of time she was a homeless teenager.
*She went on to get married very young and eventually would become Jewish...Learning the traditions and teaching her children.
*When her marriage ended she found herself lost and searching once again.
*She felt her career success, but was feeling very lost personally.
Bunmi talks about discovering her new* self as she has progressed through life.
*Her desire to be a part of a tribe (we all want this!)
*What it means to wander and how that leads to self discovery
*We talk about her writing and how she was inspired to write her latest book! It is called "HELP ME GOD, I’M A
PARENT"... Honest Prayers for Hectic Days and Endless Nights.
To all weary parents out there you are not alone on this journey!
Enjoy being inspired by Bunmi's journey-She is heart and humor

Bunmi Laditan is an award-winning, Webby-nominated writer from California who lives in Quebec, Canada, with her family. She has contributed to the New York Times, Parenting, and the Huffington Post and is best known for the satirical Twitter account Honest Toddler (1.6 million followers). Her debut novel, "Confessions of a Domestic Failure" quickly became a USA Today Bestseller. She has written poetry, such as Dear Mother: Poems for the Hot Mess of Motherhood, and appeared on the TODAY show, CBS Sunday Morning, and GMA. Her new book, HELP ME GOD, I'M A PARENT released yesterday 6/28 from Zondervan Books.
In this Come Home and Talk Series conversation, Alexis takes Kirsten through the part of a conversation where she can learn to observe is she feels safe or not. Knowing if you feel safe in the conversation means...do I feel comfortable being honest, why or why not? Does the other person feel safe to share? This skill is called Learning to Look. It's one that often overlooked, but it's ESSENTIAL if you want to learn HOW to have hard conversations. (And from our experience, life is learning about HOW to have conversations---the easy, the hard, and all parts inbetween).
Learning to notice body cues, emotions, physical responses in ourselves is a key part in determining HOW to proceed when we've entered a hard conversation.
The other part of this process is learning to understand the other person's behavior.
What does it mean when my teen goes silent?
What does it mean when my co-worker starts trying to control the conversation or collaboration experience?
How do I proceed when my spouse is clearly upset? What can I say to help?
We hop you come join the conversation.
AND...we have some amazing upcoming events. Go to our private FB group to sign up for them. Fun fact--nearly ALL events are free.

This episode with Millen is truly inspiring. She has so many stories interwoven throughout her journey here to the United States from Lithuania (former USSR). She overcomes all odds....It started in her home country, where she wanted to become a physicist but was discouraged and discriminated against over and over. She finally decided she needed to come to the US in order to live the life she wanted. She had to leave everything behind. Once here, Millen had to teach herself English. After much hard work, she went on to have a successful career, but at 42 found herself unhappy and unfulfilled. She filed for divorce and left everything to once again start over. There is so much packed into this episode that is crucial to women everywhere to learn. We talk about how to have a wealth mindset, why financial dependence is important, strategies to implement, abundance mindset and more. We discuss the importance of trusting your inner voice. Welcome to the first episode of our new series called "Come Home & Talk".
We explain in more detail what this is all about in this episode. We are very excited to be sharing more of our very own personal "specific skill set" with you all!
Don't all women need better communication skills and home design tips?! YES, please.
We jump right in with Alexis talking about the power of the word YET.
When you find yourself in a situation where you don’t know how to do something,
or you haven’t accomplished what you desire…it’s:
I don’t know how to do that YET.
I haven’t accomplished that YET.
It is possible. You can get there!
Remember some things take time to learn and are worth waiting and working towards.
The word YET makes something achievable. It puts the you back in the driver seat of your life.
Alexis shares some personal examples where she has applied this concept. It is so helpful to start expanding our thinking. She helps us think about how to change our thinking from can't to can. This concept can sometimes be hard for adults set in their ways
**Challenge this week to add the word 'yet' and see how it deeply impacts your life!

The past 2 year have been especially challenging for teachers. Trying to adapt to the pandemic stressors, while still providing an education for our children has not been easy. We have a good conversation about teachers, what we can do to help, and how educators must not forget to also take care of their personal needs. We are passionate about our children’s education and supporting those in this profession! _____________ Our guest Meredith Newlin is the founder of The Transformed Teacher. As a veteran educator who has been teaching for more than 16 years, her passion and purpose are to help motivate and inspire educators to rediscover—and keep—their joy for the teaching profession. Ripped from the headlines: Golden Girls vs. Sex and the City Reboot ('And Just Like That'). What does being golden today really look like? A photo comparing the two groups of women got this discussion going!
We chat about going gray young and why more women (Kirsten included!) are embracing their gray hair. Sarah Jessica Parker has recently joined the gray club as well.
Aging: the cultural fight vs being you!
We feel media needs more Representation of women aging. Those trying to age gracefully love seeing people our age who look like us. (wrinkles and all)
Alexis shares some scientific data with aging. We talk about the BILLION dollar anti-aging industry.
There are some Pro-Aging "Ambassadors" starting to appear on instagram these days.
Paulina Porizkova is a former model who said, "I believe our aging faces and bodies are not caving ceilings that need to be fixed. It's only a different kind of beauty which is not quite accepted or seen. It's a kind of beauty to be celebrated and embraced for its change. We all have personal preferences, but it doesn’t negate the beauty of each. We must applaud one another."
@paulinaporizkov @silverstrandsofglitter
We want to reiterate that we feel you should do exactly what makes you** feel best about yourself.
*Let's not forget AGEING is a privilege

Katie shares about her wedding being postponed, twice. Two were canceled. One permanently, one from covid. She shares how hard this was for her and how she handled the circumstances.
We chat about life as a single lady in a culture that encourages marriage. She shares her experience of "35 dates by 35". (You will not believe what one guy did on a date!)
Katie shares what it's like going from working full time as a choir teacher, single and living in Salt Lake City...to a married lady, in a rural Wyoming community to a step mom of 4. She transitioned to being SAHM and now has a new little baby boy!
We love all she does advocating for mental health awarness by sharing on her podcast, "Mental Health & Me". She talks about how starting the podcast helped to foster healing and bring hope to others.

In this episode we discuss Desire and why it is so important as women to determine our own personal desires. Esther Perel says, "Desire is a fundamental human experience that we want to be present in our lives, and when we lose it, we lose an important connection with ourselves. Living without desire is like living without hope or inspiration."
How do we go about understanding Desire?
What is it, and what is it not?
How do we differentiate our desires from our family's?
How can we discover what our desires are?
How are our needs different than our desires?
We also talk a little about the 2 types of sexual desire and the differences in men and women: Responsive vs Spontaneous
Join the conversation and leave asking yourself what you Desire!

Protecting our peace of mind during the holidays is so important. Let's all get that picture out of your mind of how things are "supposed to be" and just let them be. Yeah we know....easier said than done!
In this episode Kirsten and Alexis share some experiences and discuss how they have chosen to let go of expectations (of self and others) and how to be flexible with the holiday "shoulds".
What are some of your traditions that you keep and which do you let go? How do you navigate spending time with two families in one city during the holidays? How do you create new memories within your immediate family? What is important and what is not? How do you involve your kids? What are things you might struggle with saying no to?
So remember... acceptance, boundaries, compromise, and good communication are how you stay sane and joyful during this time of year!
May you all have a wonderful and enjoyable Holiday Season. XOXO

Stop looking outside yourself. The Power is in you right now.
Why do so many of us struggle to trust our inner knowing? Why do we sometimes rely on others for answers to our own questions? Why do good therapists not tell you what to do, but let you figure it out on your own? Why do women so often feel under qualified, or find it hard to try new things?

When Bethany Lee isn’t writing, she is elbow deep in garden soil or peppered with dust from a mountain trail. She is decidedly an “outside girl” and loves biking, hiking, and basically any activity that can be done in yoga pants —clearly, she was born to write a book about an adventure in the mountains. Bethany is a communications graduate who has a soft spot for young adults and all of the cringy moments they experience every day (It gets better, friends). A creative writer since early childhood, she uses humor, honesty, and whimsy to pull the readers in and invite them to laugh, relate, and introspect. Bethany currently resides in Lehi, Utah, with her husband, three kids, and garden.
We loved chatting with Bethany about not giving up on your dreams no matter what. Don't ever stop pursuing what sets your heart on fire....Keep going, keep believing, move past rejection, fear, and failure. Have you ever wondered where things all began and how couples start dating and then eventually ended up together? Everyone has "their" story.
Well, since it's close to Valentine's Day we thought it would be fun to share our dating stories and how we ended up with our hubbies, and eventually married so many year ago! How did it begin, who tried the hardest, who played hard to get, who was engaged previously, who wrote letters to each other for 2 years, and more!
We even learned a few new things about each of us that we didn't know before recording!!
It's great to take a walk down memory lane and remember it all.
The three of these young guys (our hubbies) had some patience, some romance, and big hearts to win us over!

Is life better with Botox?? In this week’s episode, we talk all about aging gracefully. So many of us are obsessed with looking young.
Is social media increasing our need to compare to those we see around us? If everyone uses a face filter and that is all we see and compare to our selves then we aren't comparing reality to reality. We must stop comparing and be ourselves.
If you feel more confident with a bit of filler and Botox, you do you. If you want to grow out and embrace your grays you do you. Listen along as we tackle this sticky subject!

Shauna Sauer is a Mom to 5 and Nonna to 3 grandkids with 2 more on the way. She has experienced much in her life including the divorce of her parents, losing her dad to suicide, becoming a step-mom, starting her own business with her husband, and graduating college with 3 small kids. All of these experiences prepared her for her biggest challenge, which happened in 2012 when she lost her oldest daughter in a texting and driving accident. Taylor Sauer was headed home from college when she decided to start texting and posting on social media. Her final post read, "Driving and Facebooking is not safe, haha." The accident got a lot of media attention, which in turn helped the Sauer Family change the laws about texting and driving in Idaho with the state recently passing a Hands Free law. Since the accident Shauna has shared her story with hundreds at schools, companies, driver's ed classes, church groups, and many others. She continues to share the story of how Taylor's decision to use her phone affected her family and hopes to change how people both young and old view this deadly addiction. Texting and driving creates a ripple effect...But Taylor's story also has created a positive Ripple Effect by Shauna sharing her story and saving so many lives. We were so honored to hear Shauna and Taylor's story and hope you share this with others and remember to "PUT IT DOWN" Don't let your send be the end... If you have ever hated the saying, "Everything happens for a reason." or "It could be worse." this episode is for you!
We explore the topic of positivity and how it can be destructive in some cases. This was an interesting topic we had not thought of a lot before discussing. We all have certain behaviors in ourselves or when talking others could result in this. We need to be more aware. Some of these could be hiding how we really feel, shaming others for feeling negative emotions, feeling guilty for having negative emotions, or dismissing our own emotions. Sometimes just reframing how we express our emotions or say things can change a situation.
We'd love to have you continue to share in the discussion over in our private facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/sharingherjourney/

Today more then ever our homes have become refuges from today's crazy times. "Our homes have the power to nurture and support us, or drain and discourage us." We talk about ways our home can center us, bring comfort, and security. It is so important to learn to love the space we are in, regardless of the size or budget. Being able to express ourselves and our style by surrounding ourselves with order and things we love is so important to our well being. Kirsten works full time as an Interior Designer and has had the opportunity to work with both Nicole and Collette to transform their homes, one room at a time. She talks about where you can start, what to start with, and how to create homework spaces. We discuss what to do if you are starting a new build, as well as small things you can do to make your current space function better, as well as why window treatments and art are way underrated. Deciding HOW you live in a home is also a good place to start. Nicole and Collette tell us a little about some rooms they had re-modeled or re-designed and how it affected them. If you would like more tips and ideas or to find more of Kirsten's work you can find her on... Instagram KirstenBrocknerInteriors.com Facebook
