This podcast is about the novel, The Things They Carried, and this is a conversation about chapters 1-3.
This podcast is about based on the chapters “Enemies,” “Friends,” “How to Tell a True War Story,” and “Speaking of Courage.” I drew a heart to symbolize the chapter “How to Tell a True War Story,” because one of the factors you have to have in a true war story is love. I drew a knife next to symbolize the chapters, "Enemies" and “Friends.” Because the whole reason these chapters got started was because of the missing jackknife. Last but not least I drew a sliver metal to symbolize Norman Bokers metal in “Speaking of Courage.”
The grenade with a heart is a depiction of three things. It represents the battle of morality in the war when they had to do and see acts that were against common virtue. It also represents Jimmy having to finally pull the pin for his love of Martha and to turn himself into a weapon with only one goal. But last of all, It represents the very name of the book, the things they carried, both for war, and in their hearts.
