So many mistakes, so little time. I am often asked how do I make so many mistakes in a day. It’s easy. I get up early.

This episode we talk about 8 Mistakes Small YouTubers Like YOU and I Make. And hopefully one day we will both stop doing that. Why do I keep making these mistakes over and over again even though I know that I shouldn’t? Have you ever felt that way? Part of the issues is that some of these mistakes require effort and if you are a content creator who also works a full time job, which means your YouTube creation is fit into the time you can squeeze in between family and home and whatever else you have going on. It is probably time to make up some “Atomic Habits” to organize your life.

In this episode we talk about crafting your ideal viewer avatar. What is an avatar? In this case it isn’t some blue creatures from another world fighting to save their ecosystem, instead, it is defining who your content is ultimately for and building a profile to make sure you focus on creating content for them first and foremost. Here is the worksheet. https://techtroublemaker.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/AvatarsWorksheet.xlsx

This episode will have three amazing women on the show talking about their content creation journey, how they got started, and what challenges they have faced in their creation adventures. Come by and ask questions. Our Guests: Denise Jordan started YouTube about five years ago and discovered a love for teaching homemaking to today’s homemakers. She enjoys sharing knowledge that she’s acquired over 50+ years of homemaking. Her love of homemaking and wearing aprons while cooking, cleaning, and baking has organically led to the creation of her business Apron Diva. Denise can be found on YouTube at This and That with Denise Jordan and on Instagram at theaprondiva. Denise is a retired community health nursing instructor who has been married for more than 50 years. She has three children and eight grandchildren. India Delgado says she is a Tech Nerd, a Banker, and a Content Creator, she loves to help people understand “complicated” tech! She loved being amongst the first to test out the new gear! An instructor, coach, & motivator at heart, she transitioned her career to banking where she teaches financial literacy to First Time Homebuyers to help them achieve the dream of homeownership. When the pandemic hit, she pivoted her approach on delivering the seminars. She became a professional animal communicator in the late 1990’s and began teaching others how to deepen their relationships with animals. Before content creation, she worked over 30 years as a TV broadcast engineer working “behind the camera” doing everything from the transmitter, studio camera & audio, projectionist (anyone remember the days of film at 11?) and finally video editor. Working in sports, news, production and commercial gave her an understanding of the tech side of content creation. Janet began creating videos for her animal communication and animal Reiki programs and workshops in 2001. She began teaching online in 2010 and started going live in Facebook in 2019. Being in front of the camera is something she swore she would never do but finds it fun stepping way out of her comfort zone to support animals and the humans that love them. With so many hackers going after YouTube Channels, how do you protect your YouTube channel?

Think Media’s Podcast Channel was hacked. How? Through session id or cookie hack. Even though Think Media used a probably complex password and Two Factor Authentication, hackers got access to the session variables and basically while the front door was opened, they walked in. We will talk about ways to try and prevent this type of attack. It is challenging as it requires diligence on the part of every YouTuber and Content Creator to prevent their channels and their social media accounts from being compromised.

And now, a story…

Once upon a time, in the vast world of the internet, there was a content creator named John. John had a passion for creating and sharing videos on YouTube. He had worked hard for years to build up his channel, and had amassed a large following of dedicated fans. However, one day, John received the devastating news that his channel had been hacked. All of his videos were deleted, and his account was being used to post inappropriate content. John was devastated and didn’t know what to do. He felt like all of his hard work had been for nothing. Determined to protect his channel, John set out on a quest to learn all he could about YouTube security. He soon discovered that there were many steps he could take to keep his channel safe from hackers. The first step John took was to create a strong password. He made sure it was long, complex, and included a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. He also enabled two-factor authentication on his account, so even if someone managed to guess his password, they would still need access to his phone to log in. John also learned about the importance of keeping his computer and mobile devices secure. He installed antivirus software, and made sure that his operating system and all of his software was up to date. Another important step John took was to keep his personal information private. He made sure that his name, address, and other sensitive information was not displayed publicly on his channel or on his social media accounts. Finally, John learned about the dangers of phishing scams. He made sure that he never clicked on links in emails or messages that he wasn’t sure were legitimate. He also educated his followers about these types of scams, so that they could be protected as well. With these steps in place, John was confident that his channel was secure. And, over time, he was able to rebuild his channel and regain the trust of his fans. He continued to create and share videos, and his channel continued to grow and flourish. The end.

And sadly the same thing happened to the Linus Tech Tips and SammySuperstar.

In both cases a PDF was the culprit. So be very careful with any PDF you receive as it could contain a trojan.

techtroublemaker #contentcreators

What happens when you put a group of content creators (YouTubers, Instagramers?, TikTokers, Gamers) on one stream? Join and find out.

My guests are from all over the world and rather than keep them out too late past their bedtimes, this is a special 9am EST Livestream.

Okay, Tina, I am sorry, I am keeping you out a bit late but you are a night owl, right?

The Guest List (See bios below):

@TinaWanKenobi
@LoveAudioProduction
@AshBorland
@Xanthi_S
@MarkusSchaub

Cristina is @TinaWanKenobi , a playful take of her channel name which encapsulates her jedi personality – focusing on calmness and peace,…when she is not wielding her lightsaber.

She is a pretend extrovert and a closeted introvert. An expert dodger of projectile vomit, drama queens and wing nuts. From the time she decided to go full-speed in her YouTube channel, upon the encouragement of Mommy Lala ( @MommyGuideInc ), it took her three months to reach the subscriber count minimum and five months when she achieved watch hours to apply for monetization. Through all of this, she is powered by carbs, arts & crafts and Pearl earrings.

Paul Webber is an accomplished radio broadcaster in the UK, having been in the industry since 1989, performing on every day-part from the so-called “graveyard shift” from 10pm til 2am, breakfast shows, afternoon drive and the obligatory weekend bonus air shifts! Paul’s journey into live streaming is a relatively new one, beginning during lockdown in 2020. Since then, his Love Audio Production channel has seen steady growth through his audio production for beginners niche. Not quite at the monetisation stage yet, Paul’s aim is to organically grow the channel and continue to offer his knowledge and experience in the world of audio. On a side note, his other channel – @IroningManPaul is literally that, Paul ironing his clothes whilst chatting to his audience online! Paul has been a mobile DJ since he was 16 and he also freelances for Amazon Flex, so he delivers smiles via music or packages all around South West England.

**** @AshBorland is a Mortgage Broker, Content Creator, and Podcaster helping those in the Mortgage Broker market promote and enhance their business. The awesome thing is a lot of what he does that makes him and his clients so successful can help with content creation over all. I watch so many of his Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/ashborland/) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o-p_CHC2Mw) videos and they are focused on Mortgage Brokers but the information is just so helpful and practical. If you are a broker, you should also listen to his podcast, the Mortgage Marketing Podcast with Ash Borland (https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mortgage-marketing-podcast/id1500257189)

@Xanthi_S is a Web Developer and WordPress Expert who does WordPress/Elementor Pro tutorials as part of her regular channel and by night runs a Livestreaming Gaming channel with several of her friends and Blogger. She doesn’t know it yet but I need her to help me with my new website. Let’s talk.

@MarkusSchaub is one of my friends from Online Video Mastermind and LEDA who is one of the most supportive people I have ever known. He obviously doesn’t sleep as I see him often on streams at all hours of the day and night. Markus has his own YouTube channel where he talks about content creation and accountability to help others like himself accomplish their content creation goals. And then sometimes we just have Game Night with friends. His channel is so fun and I try so hard to never miss an episode of his Thursday livestreams.

This was one of the best shows ever on my YouTube Channel or on my Podcast. I hope you enjoyed both or either.

techtroublemaker #ChatGPT #Dalle2

With Artificial Intelligence we can create background images, avatars, titles and descriptions for our content creation using ChatGPT, Lensa, and Dalle2. How did this madness start?

We talk a little about the history of Dall-e, machine learning, and Chat GPT and then talk about how you can use these things to help you create content. So before this show I used ChatGPT to write a script for this episode of the show.

Seriously. Here are questions I asked it that came back with useful answers: I asked it how to make a viral video It even created a script for my Christmas special. I didn’t use it because I looked and it was so tech heavy and I wanted to have a Non-Tech night. Okay, I can’t really have a non-tech show’ that just isn’t who I am.

It also wrote me some Christmas songs but I couldn’t learn to play an instrument fast enough to share them.

Here are the lyrics to my first ChatGPT written Christmas song:

My first ChatGPT Christmas Song

Verse 1:
The snow is falling gently to the ground
In the distance, reindeer can be found
Charlie Brown is out in the cold
Looking for the perfect Christmas tree to hold

Chorus:
It’s the most wonderful time of the year
With snowflakes falling and Christmas cheer
The sound of carolers fills the air
As we all come together to show we care

Verse 2:
The reindeer are ready to take flight
Pulling Santa’s sleigh through the winter night
Charlie Brown has found his tree
And he’s decorating it carefully

Chorus:
It’s the most wonderful time of the year
With snowflakes falling and Christmas cheer
The sound of carolers fills the air
As we all come together to show we care

Bridge:
The magic of Christmas is all around
In the snow, the reindeer, and Charlie Brown
We’ll celebrate with loved ones near
And hold onto the joy and cheer throughout the year

Chorus:
It’s the most wonderful time of the year
With snowflakes falling and Christmas cheer
The sound of carolers fills the air
As we all come together to show we care

We give ourselves so many outs to NOT MAKE THAT VIDEO.
You get Zero, Zero views on the video you don’t make. You get Zero subscribers when you post NOTHING. Do you have a voice? Do you have something to say? Are you going to say it already?

Excuses, bring them. “I don’t like to edit” (Go Live), “I don’t like the way I look on camera” (You can do “faceless” videos but your audio better be amazing and your voice over worth listening to) I am not Captain America or Miss America. I am not a supermodel but I have the face I was born with and I am going to be unashamed to show it.

Tonight’s show we will talk about excuses and how to route around them. As @DocRock says, your excuses are valid, so what. Move on.

So with travel and events starting to require proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test, many software companies are trying to create “the app” that consumers will use to store not only their Covid 19 vaccination or test records, but also perhaps other digital health and vaccination records. Who can we trust when there are no formalized standards supported by any specific government? In the US, health care is very decentralized and no one governing body controls how this is handled.

An Ahhhh moment15 years ago the makers of Call of Duty (pre-Activision mind you) teamed up with one gamer to learn ways to add accessibility to the controls of their game. This gamer, who went by the name NOM4D agreed to share his knowledge in exchange for his name being listed in the credits of the game. With internal squabbles between the programmers and the parent company this never happened and The controller layout named after him, NOM4D never got his name in the credits until now. When Raven Software who developed the latest edition of Call Of Duty wanted to know who developed these controls they found Randy Fitzgerald who gave them the entire story of how this all came to be. They offered him money but instead he simply wanted a wrong righted and so he was sent a free copy of the game and they asked him to watch the credits. There it was, NOM4D.

The One about Cryptocurrency

Disclaimer: This episode is about cryptocurrency and as such it is highly speculative. We may have managed to make some money with it but like the stock market it fluctuates so wildly that any investment is at your own risk. Anything shared on this episode is strictly our opinions and as such, the advice is worth what you pay for it. Proceed at your own risk.

So people keep asking me to do an episode about cryptocurrency. I am not anti-cryptocurrency by any means. I am more risk averse. With so many cryptocurrencies and so many legitimate and potentially illegitimate currencies, you may wonder what do I do?

Today is a surprise as I don’t usually have guests on my Tuesday show but as they say, if you are the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room so hence I invite Kurt Grela to fill the many gaps in my knowledge.

Today my guest is Kurt Grela. Kurt has been trading in, researching and evangelizing cryptocurrency for some time and is much better versed in Crypto than I.

Before I get started I wanted to let you know if you want to be in the know on Crypto, follow Kurt on Twitter at https://twitter.com/kurtgrela @kurtgrela on Twitter.

Also follow his activities on 101 Blockchain Street at @101blockchainst on Twitter.

So let’s start with explaining what Cryptocurrency is and then we can dig deeper.

Cryptocurrency is digital currency. What? You are exchanging government backed currency for digital currency.

A short fable:

Think about it this way. You buy a painting and you pay $100 for it. Next week because the artist is suddenly famous, your painting is now worth $1,000. Cool so assuming you could sell it for that, you would make a $900 profit. But you decide, if I hang out long enough, it may become worth more. So three weeks pass and it slowly makes it to $1,500. You don’t sell. The artist gets in trouble with the law and suddenly public opinion is against him and suddenly you couldn’t give the painting away and it is worth less than $100. Suddenly Elon Musk says this artist is amazing and suddenly your $1 painting is now worth $1,000 again because his Twitter account has way more followers than yours. Do you sell it or do you keep it?

That is essentially how Cryptocurrency works. Except instead of a painting you can hold in your hand, cryptocurrency like Bitcoin and Ethereum are digital, ones and zeros. If you can’t hold it in your hand or hang it on the wall, do you have something?

  1. So what is Bitcoin?
  2. What are all the other crypto currencies out there? Ethereum, Dogge, and so many other
  3. What is a stablecoin?
  4. What cryptocurrency exchanges can we trust?

For the more mainstream folks who are perhaps risk averse as I am, I went with PayPal and Coinbase. But I know there are many others that are there among folks who are deep into crypto currency they would go with.

  1. What are some examples of other crypto exchanges? Which are good, which are bad? How do you know?
  2. So what about crypto wallets? Hardware or software tell folks the difference and what do you recommend.
  3. What are the best sites to check the value of different currencies?
  4. What is the best way to research and decide what currency to take a risk with?
  5. What about the Squid Game crypto that crashed out? Should I be worried about that happening with others?

This episode answers all of these questions. You may enjoy watching the video or listen to my podcast.

Facebook Goes “Meta”. So as mentioned in the last episode, Facebook was going to rename themselves and in the end they did. They have renamed their parent company “Meta” as it shot for everything is Meta, Metaverse, As someone pointed out though, the emperor’s new clothes are all black (if you watched Zuckerberg’s announcement video, you know what I mean).

That’s all I am going to say about that since I think I covered it pretty well last week.

Microsoft Brings back Clippy, again. So two years ago Microsoft brought their famous Office mascot “Clippy” out of retirement for a series of promotions involving O365. Then just as quickly they took him back. Well, it seems Clippy is coming back as a pack of stickers for Microsoft’s collaboration and chat program, Teams. You will be able to use Clippy in conversations because, who doesn’t want to do that?

Apple feeling guilty for distracting you while driving wants to add crash detection to its Apple Watch and iPhone so that if it detects a crash it will automatically call “911” for those in the US, or “999” in the UK, or “110” in Switzerland or “166” in the Philippines or “000” in Australia.

Nintendo’s Animal Crossing New Horizons is getting a major DLC (Downloadable Content) to essentially 2.0. This DLC costs $25 bucks by itself or if you happen to move to Nintendo’s Online + Expansion pack. $49.99 for individuals or $79.99 (US) for Family. This comes with N64/Sega Genesis games you can download and Animal Crossing’s DLC for free. I have to admit I am addicted to Animal Crossing but when it began to feel like work, I gave up on it for a while. Animal Crossing’s new DLC fixes that by making your next Animal Crossing adventure about going to work. You are helping a realestate agent create vacation homes. Just what you need, leave work for the day and well, go to work in Animal Crossing.

And yes, Roblox was down for a long time this weekend. If your kids drove you crazy about it, it wasn’t your fault. Whenever your favorite sites are down and you want to know if it is you or them, visit https://www.downdetector.com to see if your favorite site or your ISP is having issues.

Lastly, go make yourself a folder where you place screenshots or snippets of accomplishments that others have acknowledged. Put this folder on your desktop. When you are having a bad day, go look at this folder to inspire and encourage yourself.

Facebook is changing its name and we will all get to live in the Metaverse.

What is the Metaverse you may ask?

According to Definition.com it is,

MetaverseThe Metaverse is a collective virtual shared space, created by the convergence of virtually enhanced physical reality and physically persistent virtual space, including the sum of all virtual worlds, augmented reality, and the internet. The word metaverse is a portmanteau of the prefix “meta” and “universe” and is typically used to describe the concept of a future iteration of the internet, made up of persistent, shared, 3D virtual spaces linked into a perceived virtual universe. The term was coined in Neal Stephenson’s 1992 science fiction novel Snow Crash, where humans, as avatars, interact with each other and software agents, in a three-dimensional space that uses the metaphor of the real world. Stephenson coined the term to describe a virtual reality-based successor to the Internet. Concepts similar to the Metaverse have appeared under a variety of names in the cyberpunk genre of fiction as far back as 1981 in the novella True Names.”

Wow, what a long definition.

Basically think of it as being like the movie “Ready Player One”. Facebook wants us to all live in a virtual world and they are the interstate highway that allows us to get to everywhere and everywhere is right. Retailers are working to build their virtual world so you can buy real things in a virtual store and have it shipped to your house. Video game companies will have gateways that you can “gather” up with your friends and you all “walk” together through Epic’s Fortnite portal to go play together.

Facebook wants to be at the forefront of that. So it has announced a new API (Application Programming Interface) that they are calling OpenXR. Previously all of the virtual reality headset makers developed proprietary standards and games they made would only work on their headset. The same with Facebook’s $19 Billion (US) purchase of Oculus a few years back. The investment hasn’t paid for itself yet but with this move to an open standard, Facebook is wanting other headset vendors to join their plans. But do we want Facebook to be the gateway to the future?

Facebook has pushed the ideas of virtual workspaces such as Horizon Workrooms, where you and your co-workers avatars can join to meet and collaborate, or Horizon Worlds which is essentially Facebook’s portal for gaming and watching concerts. Facebook is paying $10 billion (US) this year to keep building out the world.

Are you ready for a virtual world? Facebook thinks anyone 30 years old and under will be. Let’s see.

Facebook is also renaming themselves, or actually they are going to create a parent company and put all of their other entities underneath this. I joked that Facebook should call their parent company, The Oasis (from Ready Player One) or buy out Second Life and use it.
