The legendary Jon Connor joins us in what is, without a doubt, the greatest episode of Ruse Radio to date. This was a fascinating, deep conversation that has resonated with me ever since it occurred. Gene Grinman returns to Ruse Radio! This is the first time we've had a guest back so soon and for good reason. Gene's first appearance was beyond refreshing as he was the first guest to come on and discuss poetry and the beauty of words at length with me.The relationship words have with the world we've come to know is the most important thing in our lives. Reality exists beyond language but we use the only tool at our disposal in order to measure and quantify it. Poetry then takes this and give the power back to the listener by allowing you to interpret in the most personal way possible. The way you might experience what is said is rarely the author's intent. What we are left with is a mosaic of meaning; a message beyond comprehension.Never forget the power words hold. They are a weapon. They are a bandage. They are the strongest force known to man. They are the foundation of every relationship ever formed. Without words, what are we?As always, thank you for watching. New episodes of Ruse Radio always coming soon. πŸ’―

Jackman Raps is a hip-hop artist from Flint, Michigan. His latest release, 'Meditated', can be heard now on all streaming platforms! This is his fourth appearance on the show thanks to the magical chemistry found between Mr. Jackman & Ruse. πŸ’ͺJackman observed that a problem with having a dream is that you are always living ahead of yourself. Any creative mind can relate to the idea of being lost in your own vision. However, these experiences are what feed into the depth of our art. It's the artists that must be lost so the world has something to find. 🌎The dance becomes discouraging but it's the root of a tree. You can't have character without depth. You can't have art without imbalance. We can't have you without growth. So embrace it. β™₯As always, thank you for watching. With every episode of this show, it becomes more and more clear to me that life is inherently collaborative. Whoever enters the studio, it's the energy that they carry that determines how the next hour or two might go. We live through one another.

It takes a conversation like this to remind me of my love for the squared circle. Watching Monday Night Raw taught me the essence of storytelling. It showed me that, regardless of whether or not we believe a story to be true, we remain emotionally invested. It's all about how that story is framed. We exist within a framework of stories. It only makes sense that we seek to connect with them. This fiery passion I found within the beauty of narrative is the same passion I carry with me into today. πŸ’–

For Seth's second appearance on the show, we decided to dive deep into his origin story. πŸ”₯ Seth grew up as a Jehovah's Witness. Going into this one, I knew that it would be a rocky ride because Mr. Stolz is nowhere near what you would expect when it comes to religious types. Hearing him explain what he was feeling and how he would deal with his personal struggles was profound. From a certain perspective, one could identify the entire experience as an exaggeration of the universal existential angst we all feel as children. I'm sure there are many children in organized religions that feel this way right now. It's up to people like Seth to tell their story and break that cycle. πŸ” As always, thanks for tuning in. πŸ’–

Joey Cough is a musician who I had the pleasure of meeting years ago. He hasn't left my radar since. The lyricism and flow on this man is reminiscent of the best 90s hip-hop, topped off with a humor that keeps everything fresh πŸ”₯ I would recommend his music to any lover of rap. The following is taken from his artist bio on Spotify:'Joseph Gamache was hatched in Flint, Michigan sometime during the 1980s. Joey was always a special child (mostly in the mntally chllenged sense of the word). He was a class clown in school and was always in trouble. His first love was rock 'n' roll but he quickly became corrupted after being introduced to rap music by his older sister. He wrote his first rhyme at the age of 11, under the name Crazy J. At 17, he began battle rapping and eventually found success with the name Jabber Jaw. After winnin g16 freestyle battles at a local Flint night club, he was offered a record deal with FrontStreet Records. After releasing several projects under the names Jabber Jaw & Jab, which were sold in FYE and featured on iTunes, he reinvented himself yet again and settled on the Joey Cough moniker.Joey Cough is one of the most versatile entertainers in the business. He does much more than just make great music. He can also shred a person's confidence with his fierce battle raps and make even the most uptight killjoy laugh hysterically at his comedy videos. His music is a unique blend of humor, street appeal, and pure lyricism rarely offered in today's market.'As always, thanks for watching! πŸ’―

In this episode, BKTHAGR808 and I attempt to answer a simple question: What is the purpose of creativity? πŸ€”

As humans, we're naturally inclined to look for new, creative concepts. We feed of one another's creativity. There's something fundamentally gratifying about recognizing an original idea. It's as if it speaks to the mystery of existence itself. Within each of us is a consciousness that exists beyond verifiable explanation. A consciousness that can only be explained through divergent thinking and a humility that there are some things we just don't know. A particularly creative piece of art seems to tap into that same mystery. It's like a dance between the waking world and the in-between. Somewhere inside of that dance lies the truth. Let's try our best to find it. πŸ’–

It's safe to say this was the strongest episode to date. πŸ’ͺ Kevin has been on my list for a hot minute! I've been keeping up with his content for years, watching him refine his sound along the way. Funnily enough, we both met Weet (a phenomenal sound engineer) through the same mutual friend, Arline! This trio got together and created a downtown music hub for artists called, 'Wav Village'. Due to circumstances beyond their control (as discussed in this episode), they've had to jump over many hurdles just to keep things afloat. This is one of the many perks of trying to breathe life into Flint, Michigan. πŸ˜‰ However, Kevin and co. continue to stay persistent and positive in their pursuit of a shared dream and it's inspiring to see. Energy like that is what will wake this city up. πŸ™

Rayvon Taylor is the creator and host of 'The Ray Podcast', an episodic outing that introduces us to endless talent in the Genesee county area. Whether it's an entrepreneur, musician, athlete, actor, etc., Ray shines his light upon them with deep questions and a positive personality. There are never enough people using their platform to highlight the talents of others! One could argue that is what I'm doing with this very program πŸ˜‰

In the Flint music scene, Eli Campioni has his foot in the door. Whether it be behind the scenes or onstage, this man will always give his all to create the best show possible. I met him as an employee of the Flint Local 432 and he always went above and beyond his duties for any given show. This is because Eli believes in the power of potential. He sees what local musicians have to offer in a way that others might not. Learn from this. Lead by example. πŸ’ͺ

Michael is a good friend of mine and a big fan of the podcast! I was delighted to bring him into the studio for a conversation between companions; an honest interaction. While it is a blast bringing in numerous creators and musicians, it's a nice change of pace to just have a simple friendly chat. Β Michael has a deep interest in 'Dungeons & Dragons' & voice acting, which play into one another nicely. We discuss the basics of D&D, what he loves about it, how to make a character, & even begin a small campaign! As always, thank you for tuning in. β™₯

'MealeoStone Visuals' is a name that has been picking up more and more traction every single day. With 16 music videos released in January and 10 collaborations with budding Flint musician YSR Gramz, the consistency in the work on display here is impenetrable.Β

Being someone who works in video myself, it's refreshing to hear someone speak the language. This is why I'm so impressed by his output. Editing can be a time-consuming process that would turn most away. True commitment is required 24/7 if one wants to have a constant output in this field. With a goal of 300 videos this year, it's safe to say that MealeoStone Visuals is on the way up. πŸ‘†

Gozza is a mid-Michigan hip-hop artist keeping the old school sound alive. His latest project, 'Black Vinyl', is a shining example of this, featuring a grimy boom bap sound that would fit right in if we flew back to the mid-90s. His sample-based production is a product of his upbringing, as well as his vast knowledge of Flint hip-hop. I would love to have him back in the studio to dive even deeper into some of these artists and what each of them represent to the city. It's not common to find someone so dedicated to the craft for no reason other than genuine love for the art. It makes for a pure discussion.

You can listen to 'Gozza Strip Radio' on Fridays, 3:30 - 5:30 P.M. EST! This is where he curates a collection of local tunes to highlight. Anyone from the area can send in their radio edits and get featured. This is just part of Gozza's effort to share local talent beyond the few names you might expect. I respect this deeply because there isn't enough focus on the surplus of individuals making incredible art. There is so much value to be found in each creative individual. It takes people like Gozza to bring this wisdom to the forefront. πŸ’―

Shawny Neubecker is an abundantly compassionate individual with infinite love to share. Her entire adult life has been focused on providing value to individuals who are in need. 'True Heart Project' is the latest example of this!

I expected that, for the podcast, we would talk about the individuals she has met through 'True Heart Project' and how the organization came together. Instead, we went far deeper and touched on the very values that drive both of us in our individual quests for universal acceptance. Shawny and I share many values and this made for an honest, progressive dialogue. I'm looking forward to having her back again soon!Β

As always, thank you for tuning in. This show isn't possible without your support. β™₯

ALLEY has been on my radar for almost two years now! It was a pleasure finally getting him into the Ruse Stu. In these two short hours, we talk about our approaches to songwriting, local artists we admire, the ups-and-downs of working by yourself, and much more.

This man's music is unlike anything in the hip-hop scene. With such a massive collection to choose from, that truly does say a lot. You can't know what to expect when approaching his music. There isn't enough of that type of creativity in the atmosphere. Let's fix that. πŸ’―

In the longest installment of 'Ruse Radio' to date, Kane Da Gr8 leads me through these 3 hours with ease. I'll often find that, even though I don't follow an outline or structure, I have to lead each guest throughout the conversation in order to keep things moving. It's what any good host would do. This time, however, I was able to sit back and allow things to flow. It created such an organic atmosphere and I only have Kane to thank for being so open to explore ideas. πŸ™ Check out the music video for his latest track, 'Eyes on Me', now on YouTube! πŸ”₯
