Wholly Equipped: A Discipleship Podcast: Recent Episodes

Melina

New episodes air every Tuesday. Wholly Equipped is a Christian discipleship podcast for new and seasoned believers alike who are hungry to learn more about Jesus. Through casual talks, Bible teachings and interviews with leaders, teachers and sharers of their story, we will learn and grow to become disciples of Christ, that is, wholly equipped followers of Jesus! I am Melina, a school teacher/pastor wanna-be and current seminary student who writes and teaches on all things Jesus. I will walk with you as I learn and grow too! You don’t have to be a theology scholar, pastor or world-renowned evangelist to share Jesus. You just have to be you! I’ll be your Jesus-bestie/Bible teacher/mentor/sister-in-Christ and I’d love to have you join me in the mission to know Jesus, share Jesus and share our story with others.

This week's discussion will be on Genesis 3:6 - "The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too."

This was a lie I used to believe. The enemy will come at us with many lies we believe or have believed for years causing us to not live in the fullness of God's love. I share some lies I have believed as I reflect back on my journey to today where I am about to become a mom in just days (if I'm not one already by the time you hear this)! It is my prayer that my testimony helps you to open up your heart to allow God to bring you to things you never imagined for your life!

We often leave the sharing of Jesus to our pastors, missionaries or evangelists. But did you know that we are all called to spread the Gospel. Meaning we are all called to share Jesus.

But I know it seems intimidating, especially with some of the not so effective ways we've seen it done on street corners and scare tactics. But take heart! There are some organic and natural ways we can evangelize.

This month will be focused on evangelism to get the conversation started and this kick-off episode will cover 6 points and encouragements that show how it doesn't have to be scary and we can take steps right away to begin thinking about this important calling to fight for those who don't know the hope we have in Jesus.

Have you been asking God for an answer or direction in something but it feels like He isn't responding? Sometimes our stubbornness, pride and/or fear gets in the way. But God has a way of bringing us into seasons that remind us of His faithfulness.

In this episode, I share about my current season of a few decisions I am making that don't make sense but I'm doing them anyway. How do I know I'll be okay? I explore a passage in the Bible, Joshua 3 & 4, that helped to remind me and assure me and hopefully it will help you too!

There are so many questions surrounding the desires of our heart. Are they good? Are they bad? Are they of God or not? How do we know?

Or better yet, when we do know a certain desire to be a promise from God, yet we remain in waiting.

We fall into this online world where comparison crosses the line from aspiration to negativity.
Comparison can be good in that it can show us what is possible, or give us goals to aspire to. And above that, comparing ourselves to Jesus on the regular keeps us in check to be sure we are still in strive to be as Christ-like as we can be as sinners of this world.

Comparison can be good! But I think a lot of us dwell in the bad side of this issue.

How do we turn that around?

In this episode, I share three ways how we can find ways to release the negative side of comparison and follow Jesus in this area. This will help us to love over comparing or judging.

As we grow in our walk with Jesus, we go through different seasons that require that our relationship with Him changes too. We ultimately learn how to have a stronger relationship with the one who is the relationship we will have with no one else, yet it will teach us how to have relationships with others! As we grow in Him, we will see how he will communicate with us and answer our prayers differently than He had before.

When in your life have you felt like you just didn’t want to be doing what you are doing anymore? Or that you just don’t have the strength to keep doing what it is you are doing?

You know, being Christians, we are often looked at as if we are strong and have it together and can do no wrong and nothing bad will happen to us. Oh if only the secular world knew!

Even in our hard times, we can still try to follow the perfect model who did it best. Jesus! Right before he was going to go the cross we see a moment where he shows us steps we can take to go through our hard seasons while still pointing others to Christ.

I have asked this question myself so many times. In fact I still do.
I often wonder why did I go through what I went through? That's great that I grew and I am better for it. But what am I supposed to do with that? There is no way I went through that stuff only to keep it to myself and just pat myself on the back for getting through it.

There has to be more.

But how do I seek that “more”?

There are many things that might hold us back from sharing our story and putting ourselves out there. It might be fear of judgement, fear of failure, shame, guilt or even just knowing how much or how little to share and when.

In this teaching episode, I talk about a story in the Bible between Peter, a disciple of Jesus, and Jesus that looks at how Peter was a bold follower, yet had a moment of holding back.

No matter what held him back, we know that he goes on to follow his calling and this is inspiring for us!

What does the Year of the Lord's Favor mean? Is this the year we finally get that house, or job offer, or get that bonus? It might be. But the favor that God is giving us looks a bit different than what we might think.

In this episode, we talk about the way that God favors us and what it means. When we accept that favor and walk in our faith with it, we are are able to point others to Him by the victory we already have.

If you've been in a waiting season, or feel like you just got out of a waiting season, yet it still feels like waiting, this episode is for you!

There are very common, probing/nosy questions we all get asked in our lives that often leave us scared or ashamed to answer them. But these are opportunities to grow in confidence in sharing our story while pointing people to Christ!

I've been asked, "So what do you do?" and "When are you going to have a baby?"...yeah those types of questions. But, they symbolize 3 types of questions we ALL get asked. I go over each type, why people would ask them, and how you can answer them GOD-fidently!

These are:

  1. Calling/Purpose Questions
  2. Expectations Questions
  3. Curious/Outside the Box Questions

As believers, we were all new to the Bible at some point in our faith journey. Chances are we will also come into times where we will get to help new believers take their next steps after they said "yes" to Jesus.

In this interview episode, I have a conversation with my very first guest, who happens to also be my sister and best friend! As she is new to studying the Bible, we thought it would be fun to talk about the things a beginner might think or feel as they approach the Bible.

We cover these next step tips:

  • Reaching out to a fellow believer who is ahead of you in their walk to walk with you.
  • Starting with an overview of the Bible type of Bible study.
  • And, how to find ways to spend time with God daily.

God is always faithful to His promises and wants to give us new blessings. But we have certain blocks that keep us from receiving His blessing sometimes. This can affect how we behave and speak as well.

In this Teaching episode, we will look at how our perception of "new" is different than how God perceives "new". When we understand both perceptions, we can work to see it God's way and be closer to how He intended us to be. A new creation in Christ!

Do you ever feel like maybe you missed your calling? Or maybe you got it wrong and have been on the wrong path all along?

In this conversational, talk-style episode, it is just me talking to you! I share a little bit about my story that I hope resonates with and encourages you if you ever found yourself thinking you might have mistaken your calling.

The three things you need to know when you think you missed your calling are:

  1. It is not about a title, position or award.

  2. There is no clear path.

  3. It is about doing it for the one.

Give it a listen to hear more explanation of these three things!
