On this week's episode, Jeff speaks with Founder of XXO Connect, Jason Lebowitz. About Jason: Jason Lebowitz, founder of XXO, the platform built for connection to self first, XXO wellbeing for the modern workplace, XXO conscious connection, dating and relationship community and RAQVISION Youth Social Network is creating an energetic tidal wave to accelerate human connection, save intimacy from becoming extinct, restore connection to humanity, completely reinvent the current online dating model through the whole human connection experience, create the world’s most energized community wired for connection and transform one million lives by 2025. Connection over convenience is a way of life for Jason. His curiosity with connection, dating and relationships, in a modern online dating culture where connection, self-worth, acceptance, vulnerability and intimacy have been lost, XXO was created out of sheer necessity. What started as an offline matchmaking service and podcast has evolved into an out of app experience for personal growth and transformation with the need to curve the culture back to connection over convenience. The desire to remove distraction from ourselves and deepen the relationship we first have with self and then others. Jason believes connection is the root of it all. Connection to self first. Connection begins within and travels outward. If there was a formula, intimacy X vulnerability = connection. Today, we’ve lost connection. To self and with each other. We live in a world of distraction. Distraction from ourselves. We seek validation and attention to provide temporary artificial happiness. We just want to be accepted and not rejected, but we haven’t accepted ourselves. While dating apps are built like a casino, becoming an addiction and causing further isolation and loneliness, in a swipe culture where we seek validation and attention to provide temporary artificial happiness, in a world where we get caught up in the comparison, Jason and his team continue to accelerate human connection to self and each other, making the inner work sexy, fun, and placing the relationship focus on personal growth, mental and emotional health and wellness. They firmly believe that low-intervention, highly nurturing care is the best way to help babies through this difficult time. They also believe that “mom is the best medicine,” and aim to support moms and babies together, encouraging bonding and attachment and alleviating physical symptoms. This major philosophical shift in the care of babies experiencing Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, or NAS, is evidence-based and leads to greatly improved long-term results. Their method also provides a cost savings of 70-80%, when compared to caring for these babies in the NICU, as well as an even greater reduction in the amount of Morphine required to help a baby through the peak of their symptoms.Supporting early connections and providing nurturing comfort from the beginning results in a happier, healthier baby and a more stable attachment, which changes the trajectory of lives.More Information on Maddie's Place: www.maddiesplace.org

On this week's episode, Jeff speaks with Debra Gonsher Vinik, PhD. Dr. Gonsher Vinik is a film producer, writer and director who founded Diva Communications in 1985. She has produced and written 21 documentaries, including six Emmy winners. Dr. Gonsher Vinik’s newest feature film, Attention Must Be Paid: Women Lost in the Opioid Crisis is a call-to-action for more women-specific addiction treatment and recovery services nationwide. The film will air on ABC stations in May and September 2023 as a two part series. Afterward, an hour-long version will air on PBS. Dr. Gonsher Vinik has worked on this documentary for over 4 years, during which she's come to believe that the stigma associated with women suffering from any kind of substance use disorder (SUD) is far greater than for men. Recently interviewed, she said: “With men, it’s “Oh, that’s just Uncle Joey — too much (drinking, drugging, whatever) again. You know him.” But with a woman — and God forbid a MOTHER — well, then all bets are off. They are viewed as irredeemable.” She is appalled by the gender disparities in health care, citing, among others, the mere fact that opioid medications were not initially clinically tested on women. Additionally, she found that only 1% of healthcare research and innovation is invested in female-specific conditions other than oncology. In addition to her documentary work with Diva, Dr. Gonsher Vinik also runs the website Mincha Moment: Taking Time to Be Grateful which is devoted to the daily practice of gratitude via short web videos and a very intermittent blog.

On this week's episode, Jeff speaks with Ryan Hampton. A prominent advocate, speaker, author, and media commentator, Ryan Hampton travels coast-to-coast to add solutions to our national addiction crisis. In recovery from a decade-long opioid addiction, Hampton has rocketed to the center of America’s rising addiction recovery advocacy movement. An alumnus of the Clinton White House, he’s worked with multiple non-profits and national recovery advocacy campaigns. He is now a prominent, leading face and voice of recovery advocacy and is changing the national conversation about addiction.

With content that reaches millions each month, Ryan breaks down cultural barriers that have kept people suffering in silence and is inspiring a new generation of people recovering out loud through his Voices Project.

He was part of the core team that released the first-ever U.S. Surgeon General’s report on addiction in 2016 and was singled out by Forbes as a top social entrepreneur in the recovery movement. Ryan connects a vast network of people who are passionate about ending the overdose crisis in America. He has been featured by—and is a contributor to—media outlets such as USA Today, MSNBC, Fox and Friends, the New York Times, NPR, HLN, Vice, Forbes, Slate, HuffPost, The Hill, the Wall Street Journal, and others.

Ryan has received praise from Democrats and Republicans alike for addressing addiction as a trans-political issue—crossing the political spectrum to build an inclusive coalition focused on solutions. He worked closely with the White House, Senate Democrats, Republicans, and U.S. House leadership, helping craft portions of the historic H.R. 6, SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Act, signed into law in October 2018.

In 2016, he created the web series Addiction Across America, documenting his 30-day, 28 state, 8,000-mile cross-country trip visiting areas hit hardest by the addiction crisis. His first book, “American Fix — Inside the Opioid Addiction Crisis and How to End It,” was released by St. Martin’s Press in August 2018.

In 2019, Ryan was named by Facebook as an inaugural leadership fellow and created the national advocacy initiative, Mobilize Recovery. Since its inception, Mobilize Recovery has recruited and trained over 2,000 new advocates from all 50 states focused on community-based solutions to end the addiction crisis.

On this week's episode Jeff speaks with Author, Speaker, Founder and Executive Director of Florida Recovery Schools of Tampa Bay, Inc., Tina Miller.

Tina is a woman in long-term recovery, celebrating 24-years substance free. Tina shares how her father starting recovery when she was 4 years old and losing her best friend at 7 years old impacted her. Tina began drinking at 14-years old, and by 18 she was drinking and using drugs every day. After being cut-off by her parents in college, failing classes and realizing her behavior was having a negative impact on relationships, she made the decision to quit drugs. However, her alcoholism increased. Tina and her sister began attending Al-Anon, and through the program and the help of a sponsor, she began to realize she was an alcoholic and began her own recovery journey.

Tina shares she felt uncomfortable and reluctant to say the words "I'm an alcoholic" during her first months of attending A.A., so she would instead use the phrase "I'm a pickle." She explains, "when a cucumber has had too much 'juice' it turns into a pickle. It can never again turn into a cucumber." Tina recognizes that while she works every day on recovery, even after years of sobriety, there is no magic cure for her alcoholism.

After college, she entered the field of social work and began noticing a gap in services for teens, and began doing research on recovery high schools. In August 2020, she quit her job, started a non-profit and 1-year later in April 2021, she started the first recovery high school in Tampa Bay. The school offers a stable, safe environment for students with substance use disorders to get access to mental health care while continuing their academic education.

Jeff and Tina talk about how they have found that trying to change behavior out of fear is not an effective method.

Jeff talks with author and speaker, Jennifer Tracy.

About Jennifer:

https://jennifertracy-inspire.com/

Jennifer Tracy was born and raised in Colorado. She married young and had 3 daughters by the time she was 24. She considers herself a lifelong learner—and cites her most useful degree being an Honorary Doctorate in “RLE” (Real Life Experience). Jennifer uses every day language to bring to life what she has learned from her three years of study at Metropolitan State College, therapy, faith and so much more.

Jennifer experienced abuse on many levels as a child. In spite of those hardships, she graduated a year early from high school with a 4.0 GPA. At the age of 29, she lost her husband and one of her twin daughters in a car crash caused by a drunk driver. Her two surviving daughters, McKayla and Amber, were left permanently injured. Both have graduated from high school, and her oldest daughter, McKayla, graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a Criminal Justice Degree.

Within a year of this life-altering crash, Jennifer was diagnosed not only with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but also a brain malformation. Instead of being a victim of these circumstances, with God's help, Jennifer focused on being a survivor and forged all of these events into something significant and positive.

Jeff talks to licensed psychotherapist, radio host, and now author, James Miller.

James talks about his new book Life Lessons: You are the Expert on Your Life | A Workbookwhich comes out on June 14. He shares how his drive to make a difference in people's lives and provide them with a sense of hope and a framework to look at life and situations differently was the inspiration behind this book.

James talks about how Life Lessons is different then most self-help books. He designed the book to be a workbook that helps you review your past and remind you of when you felt similar emotions to what you are feeling today. It then helps you review what healthy things you have done in the past to decrease the intensity of your emotion as well as recognize unhealthy things you did, that didn’t work or had negative consequences.

Life Lessons the ideal book to read when you are overwhelmed in life, but it is an excellent resource for personal growth. It is the perfect mix for offering solutions in your moment of distress, teaching you practical tools and techniques for daily development, as well as reminding and encouraging you that you are already the expert in your life.

On this week's episode, Jeff talks with Founder & CEO of Behold Retreats, Jonathan de Potter. Behold Retreats is a bespoke wellness service that facilitates journeys of self-discovery and transformation, supported by the scientifically proven benefits of plant medicine therapy. Jonathan is passionate about raising awareness on the benefits of plant medicine therapy, and its potential to improve wellbeing and mental health outcomes. This led him to launch Behold Retreats in 2020, providing curated programs incorporating a memorable plant medicine retreat in a safe, legal and highly supported setting. Jonathan has spent his career working in strategy consulting with clients across Asia-Pacific, defining and delivering digital transformation programs. After a number of years in New Zealand, Jonathan moved to Hong Kong to work with Accenture, and most recently lived in Bangkok as country manager for the boutique consulting firm Capco. Jonathan felt that – despite an objectively great life, good friends and career success, something intangible was missing. As a result, Jonathan took a sabbatical year to travel through South America, where he attended his first Ayahuasca plant medicine retreat in Peru. The retreat experience was transformational, and in his expanded state of consciousness, Jonathan was shown directly the mindsets and behaviors that were keeping him from reaching his potential. Returning to the corporate world, Jonathan was surprised to find he was more patient, empathetic and productive than ever before, and began researching the world of plant medicine, and facilitating retreats. Jake LeClair is a Recovery Navigator and founder of the Emerge Center for Addiction Recovery.

Only those who have emerged from the darkness themselves can walk back in to guide others out and into the light.

That’s what Jake is here to do. The Emerge Center for Addiction Recovery is the result of his own decades-long battle with substance abuse and eventual journey from dope to hope. Jake spent years searching for solutions in every avenue he could think of. He went to treatment, talked with psychiatrists, tried couples counseling, and attended 12-step programs. No matter what direction he went, though, every time he felt failed by the very people who were supposed to help him.

Jake has grown to recognize in his own relationships with his family that each person plays a role in recovery. Following the same patterns places you into the same predicaments each time your child relapses. Interrupting that cycle is the only way your family can uncover the course to a new outcome. Jake understands what is actually holding your family back from recovery and shares that knowledge freely with all who will listen.
