Scott and Mike travel to Cookeville, Tennessee in part 1 of this podcast and find one of the best doughnut shops in the world. It's name is Ralph's and it is amazing! They then visit a local brewery named Hix Farm Brewing. It is a cool little artsy brewery where the decorations are unique and the vibe is so laid back, but the beer however, stands on its own. There is no laid back attitude with what the brewers put together here.
We introduce Jeff Bacon, who has worked in the casual/fine dining industry for years and became the beer buyer for these establishments and later went on to work for Sweet Water Brewing as a Market Developer for lower Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. "Bacon" shares his knowledge with us in the episode and will become a regular going forward with The Bacon Report.
Five men, 10 beers... or maybe 11 each person randomly gets two and much drink during the podcast, some good and some bad. We also talk about our holiday experiences, explain who New Edition is to our newest addition, and wrap up the Bears vs. Packers bet that was made in episode 4. All in all an amazingly fun episode where we may consider having an ABV cap for future episodes.
Jason and Jim tell us where Zaftig the name comes from, how they got started, the trials and tribulation of expanding several times over the last 7 years, why they specialize in high gravity beer, and the exciting news of opening a brew pub with a full kitchen and menu and well as a full bar and a comfortable atmosphere to hang out in.
Kit and I discuss Sam Adams Utopia, Sample some high Alcohol Beers for Breakfast? Does the acquisition of Craft Breweries by big brewers make your craft beer better? and the confusing acquisition of Balast Point by the little known brewer in Chicago.
Just a lot of silliness, good times and tasting holiday beers, we noodle over what beer pairs best with the Duke of Hazzard and Mike Tyson talks about his Christmas Wreath.
Pablo talks about winning the lottery to leave Cuba at 6 years old, growing up on the Jersey Shore, working in New York City and coming to Powell Ohio for his wife. He talks about the delicious food he makes and all the time, energy and love that goes into each and every recipe. Pablo is a facinating man and he shares so much of himself on this podcast and through his food. Such a fun time with him, I hope you enjoy!
We learn how the concept was born, where the name came from. We also learn about a talented Brew Master named Enrique Iglesias, how they pulled this all together and became successful without being too serious and having a lot of fun along the way. We share a few beers and tell a few stories so come along for the ride. *Please Note at the end of the podcast there is some popping and hissing we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and are working to fix this issue for the next episode.
Just an introduction to the concept of this podcast, visiting and talking with people at local breweries, hole in the wall restaurants, food trucks and occasional round table discussions over some good craft beer.
