The Goal - Encounters with God |The Holy Spirit series | 1 Corinthians 14 20-25 by CityLight Church
Join us this week as Pastor Nate helps us understand the Holy Sprit and spiritual gifts.1 Corinthians 12:1-7Definition“We may define a spiritual gift as a God given and therefore gracious capacity to serve the Body of Christ” (The Beginners Guide to Spiritual Gifts)Natural gifts - “natural abilities or talents are given by God through creation; qualities that are ‘innate’ or ‘there from birth’ which can be developed over time.” (Convergence)Acquired gifts - “abilities developed through training, education, experience, proficiencies, or competencies developed over time through your own effort.” (Convergence)Spiritual gifts - “A spiritual gift is a special attribute given by the Holy Spirit to every member in the body of Christ, according to God’s grace, for use within the context of the body.” “Spiritual gifts are endowments or special skills given by God that enable us to make our unique contribution. They are not natural talents, but divine abilities that enable us to do ministry.” (Convergence)“Spiritual gifts are nothing less than God himself in us, energizing our souls, imparting revelation to our minds, infusing power in our wills and working His sovereign and gracious purposes through us. Spiritual gifts must never be viewed deistically, as if a God ‘out there’ has sent some ‘thing’ to us ‘down here.’ Spiritual gifts are God present, with and through human thoughts, human deeds, human words, human love.” (The Beginners Guide to Spiritual Gifts)DirectionThe problems of your past do not change the potential for your future. The manifestation of the work of the Spirit is the powerful proclamation of the truth about Jesus.DistinctionAll of these are gifts. Some gifts are ministries – standing offices or positions in the church. Some gifts are activities – miraculous events or outpourings at a particular time and place (such as the manifestation of the Spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:7). (Enduring Word)The opportunity for divine activity is created by serving consistently in humilityDestinationEveryone has something and no one has everything but when everyone uses the something they have, together we can have everything. The manifestation of the Spirit is when God’s presence and divine activity become more apparent or obvious to us.“Spiritual gifts are concrete disclosures of divine activity” (The Beginners Guide to Spiritual Gifts)
The Witnesser | Holy Spirit Series | John 15:26-27Join us this week as Pastor Nate helps us understand the Holy Sprit as he breaks down the concept of how the Holy Spirit is our trustworthy witness of the world John 15:26-27John 5:31John 1:6-7John 5:37John 5:39John 5:36John 12:17John 15:27The Spirit testifies about who Jesus is and what He has done. A life filled with the Spirit is a life focused on JesusWe give testimony about who Jesus is and what he has done for us. Acts 1:8Our testimony is empowered by trials not diminished by them.
2026-06-14 | The Indweller | Holy Spirit | John 14:18-24Join us this week as Pastor Nate helps us learn how to be better connected to the Holy Spirit.John 14:18-24Vital and VerifiableGod’s presence and care is vital, not optional for our life.Jesus’ resurrection appearance guarantees His daily presence.Practical and SpiritualObedience is the greatest form of understanding.1 John 4:19 “we love because he first loved us”Our love is not the cause of God’s love, but God’s love is the cause of our love and our obedience is the evidence of our love. What you need is not “out there somewhere” but ‘in here by the Spirit”Experiencing God’s presence isn’t a matter of vibes but verifiable steps. It is a practical and spiritual experience. Our everyday life can be infused with an active awareness of God’s presence through normal acts of obedience.Temporal and EternalHis home in my heart now and my heart in his home forever.Revelation 21:1-4
Things to discernDo not quench the Spirit.- To quench the Spirit is to despise His gifts or be skeptical of His workDo not neglect the gift of the Spirit- We grieve the Spirit when we live in sin without repentanceDon’t neglect the gift of the Holy Spirit - We neglect the gift when we are lazy and do not fan into flame what God has put inside of usDo not resist the Spirit - We resist the Spirit when we reject the message of the Gospel
Nearing the end of our Big Questions series. We are working our way down the funnel, answering big questions about God, the Bible, and the resurrection, then about our desire for identity, belonging and purpose. Today we answer the question every human wakes up trying to figure out, where do I belong? We all know our innate desire to fit in somewhere, to have a place, a people, to come back home so to speak. You have been trying to fit in somewhere since you started caring about what kind of clothes you wore in 5th grade. Why is it that you long for something that nothing in the world can seem to satisfy? Why is it that being lonely is so bad? Why is it that you have a soul, and are obviously so much more than just matter? Why do you so deeply long for connection? Why do the places of belonging the world can offer not quite provide what you need
…no true self apart from this relationship. The foundation of our identity resides in our life giving relationship with the Source of life. Any identity that exists apart from this relationship is an illusion(TGBY)My New SelfWe do not find our true self by seeking it. Rather, we find it by seeking God(TGBY)2 Cor 5:17My true identity is received not achieved.Matt 16:13-18When I confess His true identity, He confirms my true identity.

Join us this week as Pastor Nate takes us through Matthew 28. Helping us understand the debt paid on Easter Morning. Matthew 28:1-10Romans 6:23 - for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Sin leads to death but Jesus leads to lifeSin leads to deathMatthew 6:12 - forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors.Jesus leads to lifeThe free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.Colossians 2:13-14 - 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.
Today is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week as we prepare to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. Join us Friday for good Friday services, Saturday for easter egg hunt, and Sunday for Easter Services. Palm Sunday is the day Jesus entered into Jerusalem and people laid down palm branches and praised Him. But only a few days later, he is crucified and then risen from the dead.In this account, as Jesus reflects on the people’s response to him, he says something interesting about peace and why they didn’t have it. From his words we learn there are “things that make for peace” and things that do not make for peace. You need the right ingredients. Do you have peace? Do you have the right ingredients? Let’s see

Transformation by Adoration| Burdens to Breakthroughs | Nehemiah 9:1-5 by CityLight Church
Nehemiah 8:1-12A picture of a breakthrough can empower us to pursue a burden.1. Breakthroughs have no limits.- Breakthroughs aren’t limited to certain people, past, or place.- “The remnant there in the province who had survived theexile is in great trouble and shame….” (Neh. 1:3).- precincts of the temple, so that none might be barred from attending…” They made space for a breakthrough to take place.2. Breakthroughs happen through a hunger for God’s Word.Jer. 15:16,Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.Ezekiel 3:2-32 So I opened my mouth, and he gave me this scroll to eat. 3 And he said to me, “Son of man, feedyour belly with this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it.” Then I ate it, and it wasin my mouth as sweet as honey.when he ate the Word and it became sweet as honey.3. Breakthroughs heighten by the joy of the Lord- 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before himendured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Heb. 12:2)

What's Going On Here: How to Create Super Natural Gatherings - (Romans 12:3-8) by CityLight Church
We have been going through Paul’s letter to the Romans, a series we call “whats going on here?” because the book of Romans really does explain so much about our lives today. What’s wrong with the world, who is God and what is He doing, how do I fit into it all? So whether you are not a Christian, new to the faith, or been walking with Jesus for a long time, this book helps you make sense of your life.
Living in The wrong time zoneRoman 8:1-11 three goals for the dayGoal 1- From condemnation to celebrationGoal 2 - From Longing to Living.Goal 3. - From insecurity to inheritanceClose with the lyrics to v4 of the hymn “ And Can it Be”No condemnation now I dreadJesus, and all in him, is mine!Alive in him, my Living headAnd Clothed in righteousness DivineBold I approach the eternal throneAnd claim the crown, through Christ, my own
Continuing our whats going on here series. Today we learn what’s wrong with the world and how to fix it. Like actually fix it, not like pageant queens asking for world peace. Right solutions require the right diagnosis.
Join us this week as Pastor Nate continues our study through Romans. Romans 5: 1-5Looking for peace of mind but peace with God is what's needed.- Living in Peace- Standing in Grace- Rejoicing in Hope
Luke 19:28-40Meditation turns familiar texts into fresh truths.1. Jesus is the humble King.• (Zechariah 9:9) - Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.• “He does not arrive as his royal highness but his royal lowliness."• v.41) “And when He drew near and saw the city, he wept over it.”2. Jesus is the peaceful King.• “He shall speak peace to the nations.” (Zech. 9:10)• Our peaceful King didn’t come to punish but to plead for our peace with God.3. Jesus is the King of Kings• Revelations 19:11-16 • Nothing can silence the praise of God.Submit to the King• v.32) "So those who were sent went away and found it just as He had told them" • As I keep submitting to God’s Word, I will see how much God keeps His Word.
Do you long to go deeper into the things of God and grow in your understanding of His ways? Or are you unsure about what you even believe and would like a good explanation of the basics of Christianity? Do you ever just wonder what in the world is going on here?! The book of Romans helps with all those questions. It is the most in depth understanding of how God works in the world and also the clearest, most foundational truth about who God is, who we are, and how we are supposed to live. It provides deep theological truth and also practical wisdom for everyday life. It can be broken down into 5 parts and we are going to spend some significant time working through all of it. We will learn what the problem of the world is, what the solution of God is, the opportunities to live a new life, the mysteries of His ways, and practical wisdom for our daily life. God wants you to know Him so join us as we learn about Him together!
This week at Citylight Nate Crew continues his series called Cheating On God as he digs through Malachi chapter 3 and 4: "From Cheaters To Leaders".
Join us this week as Nate unpacks the foundational concept of the Christ as a personal counselor and how we can take action based on the council He provides.
Pastor Nate takes us through one of the hardest to understand and most convicting portions of the Sermon On The Mount. Matthew 7:15-23 LET'S GOOOOO!
Citylight Church in Falls Church Pastor Nate CrewLuke 17:11-19 "Don't Take It For Granted"
•BLUF: Rather than looking to figure out what God’s specific will for our lives is, we ought to live confidently in the general will of God, while being attentive to His specific call on our lives as we go.oProblem: We often walk through life hesitantly searching for the best path to go, leaving us with unneeded stress and anxiety about our lives and purpose.oSolution: Live confidently in the will of God, and allow Him to reveal, more specifically, His will for our lives as we go.
•How you view yesterday will affect your tomorrow.oTitus 2:12-14oWe are to forget what is behind and press on to what God has for us.oYour regret is to be left at the cross of Jesus. Today can be filled with anticipation or regret.oWhen you look to what “might happen” you are essentially fortune telling.oWe need to reconsider our expectations of God for this life on earth.•The way you look forward changes the way you live today.•The judgement you’ll face is not what unbelievers will face. Your sins have already been judged, covered, and forgiven.•How you look at tomorrow affects your today.•Focus on these three time periods:oYesterday – fix your eyes on Jesus and his past work.oToday – fix your eyes on Jesus and his current presence.oFuture – fix your eyes on Jesus and the coming reward.

Real transformation and change is only found in JesusEveryone is changing but only some are transforming.Either the world is conforming you, or Jesus is transforming you.I am not trying to be the best me I can be, God transforms me, not to be my best self, but to be like Jesus
God's purpose is always available to you and is not dependent on you. It doesn't come from you, it comes to you.
Money is a mirror of yourself. Where your treasure is, there your heart will be. You need to follow the money to find where your heart is.Your treasure and your heart are always in the same place. It's not what you do or do not have, it's what you do with what you have. One of the best ways to guard your heart is to guide your money. Don't follow your heart, lead your heart. Put your money where you want your heart to be. It is hard to live with heavenly hope if you are fixated on earthly treasures. Love is NOT the root of all evil, the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Money itself is neutral. It's about your heart. True happiness is not more, but enough. True happiness is contentment (with what we have). How do I not lay up more treasures on earth?Don't overvalue worldly things...Moldy Money. Don't be overconfident in earthly treasures...Dummy Money. Don't use money to accumulate more and more...Junky Money. Don't use money to seek praises of men rather than God...Dirty Money. The purpose of this life is preparation for eternal life.Your salvation is first and foremost.Possessions don't last but their purpose can. Don't accumulate but accelerate. There is a difference between saving and hoarding. Do good and share. Invest in the real estate of heaven and your investment will ALWAYS appreciate in value.Money is often an idol in our life, whether we have a little or a lot. It can tempt you to greed or to fear. Money can either kill your spiritual life or catalyze your spiritual life. God may either bring conviction or encouragement concerning money. (Not from the sermon but in line with it, "God does not give you financial blessings to improve your standard of living, but he blesses you financially so you can improve your standard of giving.")

Matthew 7:24 - 27 (How Strong Is the Foundation Of Your Life) - Nate Crew by CityLight Church
On obeying God: Don’t be so concerned with the fact that others aren’t ready to receive something- if God has called your heart to release it, be obedient! 👉🏼What is holding you back from releasing what’s in your heart? From following the call of God on your life? 👉🏼Where YOU are weak, GOD is strong. 👉🏼If you are waiting for the “perfect” time to be obedient.. you will never obey. 👉🏼God gets the glory- He prefers to work through your weakness, because you HAVE TO rely on Him to bring you through.
We continue our series called stretched: how to move into your calling by moving out of your comfort zone. Here we dream. I hope the Lord has stirred your heart these last couple of weeks, maybe made you a little uncomfortable, prayerfully has rought conviction/repentance to really follow Him like He wants.
Choosing to be uncomfortable unlocks kingdom potential. It unlocks the act of following Jesus every day. It opens up the door to new possibilities. Remember the question, what is on the other side of obedience? What kingdom realities are on the other side of choosing to be uncomfortable? Letting God stretch you?
