This week we'll conclude our Easter series, FOLLOWER, on Resurrection Sunday! During Jesus' last few days on earth, he prepares his disciples for the events to come and instructs them that they must deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow him. They couldn't possibly have fully understood the horrors they would see Jesus endure or anticipated what would be required of each of them as the crucifixion unfolded.
What does it mean to deny ourselves and "take up our cross?" It certainly doesn't sound easy, and it isn't, but it's worth it. We will take a close look at what is required of us to be a true follower of Christ.

Last week, we were challenged to count the cost of following Jesus. We learned that Jesus calls his followers to reorder their priorities, sacrifice their comfort, and never look back.
This Sunday, Pastor Gabe will be sharing from the gospel of Luke as Jesus calls each of us to consider what obstacle may stand in the way of us following him completely. As we reflect on Jesus’ challenge to a rich young ruler, we will consider what we are most afraid to lose as the result of following Christ.
It’s not always easy, and it will require sacrifice, but for those who are willing, following Jesus offers a great reward.

This Sunday, we will be introducing our new sermon series, “Oh My Soul,” which will lead into our Week of Prayer later this month. In this series we’ll be focusing on our inner man and the need to spiritually nurture our inner soul. Throughout the book of Psalms, David and the other psalmists referred often to the condition of their souls, crying out that their souls are thirsty, weary, troubled, discouraged, clinging to God. During Jesus’ time on earth he asked his followers, “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” (Mark 8:36) He emphasized the possibility of losing our soul to misguided worldly pursuits and earthly gain. In this series, we’ll concentrate on how to study the Word and pray in ways that uplift, fill up, encourage and inspire our souls to long after God. We have been learning a great deal as we study the characteristics of 'the coming servant' in the book of Isaiah, our primary text for our "Wonder of Christmas" sermon series. In the first two servant songs, we have found him to be both ‘gentle and lowly’ and ‘meek and measured.' These traits are counter intuitive to the definition of success in any society, and yet that is what Jesus portrayed to His followers. Just think of it -- God Himself, taking on the form of a humble servant. What a wonder!Join us this Sunday as we consider another aspect from the third servant song -- the Steadfast Servant (Isaiah 50:4-11).

Last week, we discovered four servant songs in the prophetic literature of Isaiah that spoke of an individual who will come as a servant to not only Israel, but to all the nations. In the first servant song, Isaiah 42, we read about a coming servant that would be “gentle and lowly” in approach to his work.This week, we will read in the second servant song, Isaiah 49, of a coming servant that would be “powerful and patient” in the fulfillment of his work. Again we will ask, is this servant simply Israel, or is the one being spoken of the fulfillment of the Messiah, the child to come, that Isaiah had prophesied?

Children of God know that this world we are in, but not of, seeks to define love without God. The major problem with that is, God is love. He defines it, He demonstrates it, He promises it, and He makes no mistakes. He expects His kids to love like Him. Therefore, let’s make sure we get our definition of what love is from the divine instead of from the world.

Last week, we looked into what it truly means to know Christ. John implored his 'little children' to obey the word, abide with Christ, and walk in the light.
This week, John shifts his attention (1 John 2:15-29) to a graver concern that his spiritual children are facing. The false teachers of the day are trying to lure them into loving the darkness of a worldly system that has been schemed to distract, discourage, and entice people away from walking in the light.
Join us as we learn what characteristics John warns all of us to be listening and watching out for in these ‘many antichrists’ who he says have come in this ‘last hour.’

we began our Word of Life series last episode in the prologue of 1 John and discovered that our author was living in a time when a false teaching was spreading, claiming a higher knowledge of Jesus Christ that was full of lies and distortions to the truth of who He was. How did John respond in a time when the church was beginning to be swayed by these lies? He reminded them that he was an eyewitness to Jesus. He not only knew him, he touched him. Jesus was no phantom. He was and is “the word of life!”
This week, John will provide even more insight into who Jesus is by introducing us to one of his favorite aspects of God -- that He is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. (1 John 1:5-10)

This Sunday, we will begin our fall sermon series, Word of Life. We live in a world full of lies, and if we’re not careful we can be susceptible to believing them. Unfortunately, we all know that believing lies has consequences. It can steal our joy, rob our peace, crush our confidence, and even challenge our assurance of salvation. Times like these demand studies like this.
The letter of 1 John is written to an audience surrounded by people deconstructing their faith, believing lies of false teaching, living in the licentiousness of relativism, and recklessly redefining truth in order to fit a desired lifestyle. The result? A discouraged church questioning salvation, faith, and trust in sound doctrine.

This Sunday, we will conclude our Jericho Walls series in Joshua chapters 23-24. Joshua is nearing the end of his life, and he desires to impart to Israel his vision for their future.
Join us this week as we reflect on one of the most powerful verses in all of scripture. “Choose ye this day whom you will serve, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)

Are you feeling tired, maybe lacking motivation, or do you find yourself easily frustrated? Did you know these are just a few signs that you may be struggling with burnout? We live in a fast-paced world that preaches a "go and get yours" self-reliance. However, that is far from God's plan for our lives. He does not call us to be self-reliant, He calls us to rely solely on Him.
As we approach the final two weeks of our summer series, Jericho Walls, we come to one of the more astounding moments in the book of Joshua (chapter 10) . . . the day the sun stood still.
In this incredible account, we see Joshua rely on and receive the help of God in such a miraculous fashion. When we ask for God's help, we will see Him do things exceedingly beyond all we could ask or think. The only thing preventing us from experiencing His wonder-working power is our own self-reliance.

As we enter the final weeks of our Jericho Walls series, we leap eleven chapters filled with the conquering, allotting, and dividing of the promised land among the tribes of Israel. We now find ourselves in Joshua 22.
Israel has come to the place where Joshua can permit those tribes wishing to live east of the Jordan their freedom to leave. As they do just that, they make a decision that is perceived incorrectly, which immediately leads to conflict.
This Sunday we will learn how to navigate conflict, extend grace, and - as far as it depends on us - live at peace with everyone. Let’s knock down the dividing wall of judgmentalism.

As the news continues to spread throughout the Canaanite cities that the Israelites have a conquering God, the enemies of Israel resort to ‘wiley ways’ in hopes they can crack the impenetrable force that is God’s people.
Have you ever been scammed, fooled, misled, even bamboozled? It’s so frustrating, and it can be very damaging. Join us this week as we look to increase our discernment, wisdom, and watchfulness in order to avoid the snare of folly.

Last week Joshua and his army fled from the forces of Ai only to learn the reason for their defeat was due to deception within the camp. As we witnessed the ripple effect of one man’s sin, we’re left wondering how Israel will survive now that Ai and surrounding enemy armies no longer fear them?
Join us this week as we see Yahweh’s vengeance on Ai and gain insight into why we are now told throughout the New Testament to not take vengeance, but leave it for the Lord.

Jericho has fallen! And this week we will see God’s people move on from their great victory at Jericho to the small city of Ai. Jesus said, “Nope.” Join us this Easter Sunday as we celebrate why our risen Savior said, “do not worry about tomorrow.” We will take this thought with us as we review the final week of Jesus in light of ‘tomorrow.’ We’re praying the insights we gain from His final week on earth will motivate us next time we are tempted to worry about ‘tomorrow,’ for after all, ‘tomorrow’ will worry about itself.

As we've been working through our Majestic series, we've spent the last several weeks examining the Hebrew names of God. Now that we’ve concluded this first part of our series, we turn our attention to the matchless names of Jesus!
This week, we will follow the Messiah’s triumphant ride into Jerusalem, which we commemorate as Palm Sunday. Merry Christmas! This Sunday, we have reason to celebrate as we gather to cap off a month of worship. That’s what this December sermon series has been all about -- learning to “worthship” and laud the name of Jesus!
As we continue looking at Luke 2, we’ll examine one more aspect of worship -- the response of worship. Most of us know Luke for the parts of the story that we’ve studied so far -- Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem, the birth of Christ, the shepherds. But there’s more to Jesus’ birth than that. We’ll travel to a few locations, including a king’s palace and the temple of God, to find responses to Jesus now that Immanuel, "God with us", has arrived.
We will examine what responses God desires from us in worship, and we’ll have one more opportunity to laud his name together this Christmas season.

In this week's text, Peter will dig down even deeper into the subject of remarkable living by calling the church to respond to insults and criticisms far differently than the world they are passing through.
Do you find yourself easily angered? Do you find yourself easily offended? Is it hard for you to entrust God with revenge when you see apparent injustices or poor behavior?
This Sunday, Peter will call the church to live with remarkable goodness. Specifically, responding with good when treated with evil. The church has such an opportunity during these times to demonstrate something the world will see that demands they ask about the hope we have inside us. In this week's study, Peter turns from focusing on the testimony that can come from submitting to governing authorities to the testimony that can come from a God-honoring marriage. We live in a society that does not understand the importance or significance of God’s design in marriage.
This Sunday, we will discover what that design is, how God has provided it as an illustration, and how that illustration can motivate couples to maintain the submission, honor, respect and love that is to be modeled before the world in a God-honoring marriage relationship.

Regardless of our personal views, we all find ourselves living in a divided society that is being bombarded with fear, intimidation, and ever-present threats to our well-being.
The reality is, many of us might feel worried, manipulated, frustrated, and at a loss of what the future may hold. How then shall we live?
Scripture’s answer might surprise you. It calls us to live REMARKABLE lives. You’re probably thinking, “Come on! You can’t do that in the midst of health concerns, rumors of wars, and societies raging with division.”
The truth is, what God calls us to will not be easy or natural for most of us, and it certainly won’t be what we see in our culture.
But our hope is that in the midst of a society telling us we can’t be REMARKABLE, our entire church family would respond to that challenge with one simple phrase, “Say I won’t!”

The word valiant is seldom used in our day and age. It describes one who "possesses or shows courage or determination.” This Sunday, we will be reminded of one of the most valiant acts in all of scripture from the book of Esther as she stands before the king. We will compare her boldness to that of Paul (Acts 26) as he stands before Agrippa.

What is God asking you to offer Him?
Let’s be honest, there's no one who doesn’t think they could use some growth in the area of patience. Being tested in the area of patience is no fun, yet it is one of the most sought-after characteristics God longs to see in His children.
Why? Patience demands sacrifice, and sacrifice demands trust. The ability to walk in faith as we wait on God demonstrates a God-fearing respect, surrender, and trust that He is good and He will provide. When we patiently wait, we honor and praise Him as we choose to rest in His timing, His plan, and His promises that He will provide.
This week, we will examine the faith of Abraham and Isaac being tested before being entrusted. We will then compare that to the Apostle Paul’s faith as he once again goes to trial, this time before Festus.
I trust this message will be a real encouragement to all those feeling confused, frustrated, and even upset with God's current plan in their lives, as they are being asked to surrender theirs.

7 Ways to Crush the Fear of Accusation
Have you ever been tempted to do something wrong in private? How about being deceitful in order to finish a task under pressure, or maybe pondered ways to deceptively cheat the system? What about the times you’ve justified deceitfulness because of the way you have been mistreated?
This week, we will talk about walking in ‘blameless faith’, with a clear conscience. We will watch as Paul is mocked, accused, slandered, and even cast away into isolation, despite being blameless before God.

Our summer series begins this Sunday with the third part of our trilogy in Acts: "VOYAGERS".
We find Paul at a place where he is convinced he is to return to Jerusalem, much to the chagrin of those who are offering him council. He will have to decide between heeding the warnings of those wanting him to stay, or following the sense of call he has urging him to go.

Some people love that word, but for many, change is difficult. Change can be emotionally draining, especially if it’s change we didn’t anticipate or ask for.

Is evil lurking at your door?
I've heard many people say over the past year that they have never felt evil has been so obvious and out in the open. Truth is, the god of this world has always been busy at work, yet there is no doubt evil can appear at times and in some places far more than others.

Who can stand before jealousy? Often times we want the best and want to have the best. That is a worldly mindset and could be compared to building a house on sand. But there can be another option, a double vision.
When we have double vision, our focus isn't on what it should be. There may be a completely different path that may not be what we want, but it's God's plan. This week we take a look at what it means to build a house on the rock or build on sand. What path are we going to take?
Last week, our Sojourners began their second missionary journey and were led by the Spirit to the influential city of Philippi, where they shared the gospel with a prominent woman named Lydia. This week, we will continue in Acts 16 as we encounter 2 more individuals in Philippi.
The gospel is moving powerfully when they suddenly face opposition. Our Sojourners must deal with unfair accusations and unjust imprisonment.
- Why would God allow persecution to hinder them?
- Why doesn't he deliver them?
We will observe how Paul and Silas tap into 2 powerful weapons available to all believers while waiting for deliverance.
We continue our Sojourners series in Acts 16 as we follow Paul on his way to an influential mom named Lydia. We pray this part of the journey where Paul must pass through some ashes to see God bring the beauty will inspire not only the mothers, but all of us to search for the good that comes from even the darkest times.
We live in a time period weighed down by conflict. Voices of anger, frustration, annoyance, disrespect and judgment are reigning down all around us. Petitioning voices yell “choose this side,” “follow this opinion,” “stand your ground,” “don’t listen to that,” leaving behind the shrapnel of tension-filled homes, divided family members, confused children, discouraged leaders, and boiling division.
How do we live like Christ in this season of life? How can we represent him during this sojourn through conflict? What message would we deliver?
This is the challenge facing our Sojourners as we begin the second missionary journey. So be sure, we will leave with some tools to handle conflict like Christ.

What can we learn about the life of a Sojourner? We get a picture of what its like to live a life called to God. When you live a life of serving God, you will come to a crossroads. One path would be easy, comfortable, full of self reward. The other path is more complicated. It’s sacrifice, being uncomfortable, a step of faith but in the end a life of serving God is the most rewarding.
Let us not say no and turn down opportunities due to fear but instead say yes in faith.

What does it mean to be a Sojourner?
Our Sojourners Series launches into the second half of Acts, as we look at chapter 13 and Paul's first missionary journey. We'll follow Luke's story, travelling with Paul and his team to the island of Cyprus and across the Mediterranean to the region of Galatia.

Join us as we deepen our understanding of what it truly means to be a sojourner here on earth. We will look at three key characteristics from the life of Paul to inspire us to remember we are simply “passing through."
What is a sojourner? Webster’s definition is “one who takes up temporary residence in a place.” That’s a good definition, but I believe scripture shows there is more.
Do not fear, only believe.
Fear is the enemy of faith.
We Jesus’ kids fall down before Him, He’s there to help you. A relentless faith is a rewarding faith. Jarius had a relentless faith that Jesus could raise his daughter from the dead. Jesus rose from the dead and we can depend on Him to be there when you fully depend on Him.
Has Jesus just become a truth you believe in, or is He a personal truth that you fully trust?
Martha knew Jesus and knew the theology that He would eventually save everyone, but when Jesus said Lazarus would live again she didn’t quite believe in what he was about to do. If Jesus can raise someone from the dead, what can’t He do?!
When we have a personal trust in someone, we believe they will come through when we need them to. Even when it looks like all is lost, Jesus has the power to raise the dead. God is always working in the background.

Do you feel like you are stuck in chains and no one can rescue you?
God sent his angels to walk Peter out of his cell and when we use our secret weapon, God can free us as well.
Prayer is the most powerful weapon we have against the evils of this world. Having Child-like faith can break chains and deliver hope when we feel all is lost.

What can triumph over partiality?
Do you feel like you’ve been treated unfairly? Jesus is the type that would pull up a chair and sit with you! Jesus love the ones that people loved to hate. In Jesus’ times, it was unheard of for the “religious” people to do the things that Jesus did. He chose to simply love.
Grace can triumph over partiality.
Acts 11
God shows no partiality. The gospel is not limited to a certain group of people but instead everyone can receive it.
Peter was willing to tell anyone and everyone the good news of the gospel. Cornelius was a man who knew who God in his head but didn’t believe in his heart. He then surrendered and the Holy Spirit came upon him. It is not enough to know Jesus in your head, you need to believe in Him in your heart.

God is in the business of doing miracles and will continue to do them. Sometimes when we pray for a miracle that wasn’t God’s plan and He has something bigger in store. In this message we will learn to pray expectantly and how to handle the situation “Even If” He doesn’t answer our prayer.
Theres Pauls and there's Barnabas'. Paul had betrayed a lot of people and had to earn back there trust. Barnabas was the ultimate encourager. Sometimes all some people need is a little encouragement. Certain people have the spotlight on them wether they asked for it or not. Different positions are sometimes very visible to a lot of people. After Jesus ascended, His followers had the same spotlight on them and they learned to lead with love.
Hypocrisy is common problem in the world today. Pastor Chris provides some steps on how to practice what we preach.

The trials in our life can lead us to despair, but these same trials can be the pressure that is needed to forge us into a shining light for others, giving them hope. This ray of hope, this light can point others to Jesus Christ, our true source of hope. "For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake." 2 Corinthians 4:5. But remember that in sharing the gospel which is the knowledge of Jesus Christ, we are not responsible for the outcome; and in sharing the Gospel, we may incur further trials as did Paul. (see 2 Cor 11:23-28). In 2 Corinthians 4:1-18, Pauls describes the Christian life as a clay jar. Our life (as a Christian), has great value (vs 7-10); and the light that is within us is the "carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies."
So how do we 'suffer well?' 1) we suffer well through our conviction. We must firmly believe the Gospel that we share. 2) we suffer well when we exhibit assurance, knowing the outcome (that Jesus wins!) and, 3) we suffer well as we bear the responsibility of sharing God's grace (the Gospel message) to others.
Finally it is important for the suffering believer to remember that, "this light and momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison. As we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)

Continuing on with how we need to be a light in the world, overcoming the darkness, we learn that light is best placed where it gets the most exposure...in dark places. This is where it is needed the most and where we can have the greatest affect. We are called to be salt, making a positive difference in peoples lives or situations. We learn that grumbling or complaining takes away from our light or causes us to lose our saltiness. Another way we lose our saltiness or light is by approaching situations with the attitude, 'what can I get from this'. Instead we should use our talents to give to others or situations, thereby letting our light shine.

Christmas for some may seem hopeless. Hopelessness leads one to darkness. In John 1:1-5 we learn that Jesus is the WORD. The WORD is Creator, Light and the Child, God Incarnate. It was this Child who said 'I am the Light of the world' and, ' Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the Light of Life' and, I have come into the world as a light so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness'. We need to fix our hope in Jesus. Hope gives us reason to live, something to look forward to.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things in our life, but what about the difficult things? 1 Thess. 5:18 reminds us we should give thanks in ALL circumstances. This is a HARD thing! Turning to Romans 5:1-5, Paul explains how this is possible. Paul tells us that "...we also rejoice in our sufferings knowing that suffering produces endurance and endurance produces character and character produces hope. This is echoed by James 1:2-4 which says, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness." and again in Hebrews 12:5, 10-11, "Do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him...He disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." So suffering leads to hope. But where do we find our hope? If we place our hope in worldly, temporal things like health, possessions, finances, locations, relationships or situations, we are bound to be disappointed, but if our hope is placed in Jesus Christ, it is a hope that does not wear out (it lasts), it does not disappoint, but it truly satisfies. Illustrations of this working out in real life are Fanny Crosby (1820-1915) or contemporary singer/songwriter, Laura Story.

A popular question is, "are we living in the last days?" Pastor Chris expounds on the effects of social media giving us a more global view. This supports what we read in 2 Timothy 3:1-5, which describe 19 characteristics of culture in the last days. Applying these characteristics to todays world, we should always live in such a way that the last days are imminent. So, there is urgency in the message. Everyone should read The Book of Revelation (of Jesus Christ). The book is an encouragement to the believer and a severe warning to the non-believer. The beginning of the Book of Revelation (of Jesus Christ) introduces us to seven facets of the Book and their significance.
Where does one begin in attempting to refine the book of Proverbs to a 'Top 10'? For the conclusion of the 'Get Wisdom Series', we learn the 'Top 10 Proverbs' of the church family as well as those of Pastor Chris. We also are asked, 'if King Solomon had so much wisdom, why did he fall?' Then we ask ourselves, 'why wouldn't we heed so much wisdom if it's so good for us?' The truth is that sometimes we let our pride come between us and wisdom, and us and God. Our pride seeks to bring us down (Proverbs 16:18) and separate us from God. Some of God's smallest creatures, the ant, the rock badger, the locust and lizards can teach us wisdom. We can learn from them the importance of preparation, protection, partnership and position. Rid yourself of pride and 'Get Wisdom!' (Proverbs 4:7)

- Pr 3:27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is your power to act.
- Pr 4:6-7 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.

Pastor Chris' Top 10 Proverbs:
- Pr 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
- Pr 19:21 Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
- Pr 18:2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only expressing his opinion.
- Pr 19:3 When a man’s folly brings his way to ruin, his heart rages against the LORD.
- Pr 28:13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

- Pr 16:7 When a man’s ways please the LORD, he makes even his enemies be at peace with him.

- Pr 11:14 Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
Two other verses that are not to be over-looked; but are ones always to be kept close to your heart are:
- Pr 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.
- Pr 4:7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost everything you have, GET UNDERSTANDING.
Launching from Proverbs 29:18, which reads 'Where there is no vision, the people perish, but he that keeps the law, happy is he', the churches vision is shared. A description of our five church family dynamics are reiterated:
- Family Vacation - to grow people of all ages to a mature faith in Christ.
- We Are - to know who we are, what we believe, and why we do what we do.
- Delight dynamic - to create a place you don't 'have' to go, you GET to go!
- Wave Rider - to follow where He is leading, when He is leading, and how he is leading through prayer.
- One Another - to be an Oasis of hope, love, and inspiration for one another.
To maintain these dynamics sometimes requires change. Change requires wise planning. The church is following 10 steps of wise planning:
- Ask the Lord
- Collect His wisdom
- Recruit the core
- Develop the plan
- Don't rush
- Determine the 'why'
- Share the draft
- Receive all reaction
- Resubmit the plan
- Follow through
This is WHY and HOW we do what we do!
What are the ingredients of Baptism? The story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch found in Acts 8:26-40 describes how God draws a 'seeker', one who is searching, wrestling and questioning; and brings that individual together with a 'servant', one who is ready, willing and able. This collision of the two results in a sharing of the Gospel, followed by a Baptism of a new believer. And why Baptism? For Who? For what? For Christ and for our identity! Are you ashamed of the Gospel? Or are you eager (drawn) to it or ready, willing and able to share it?
Do you know what the smallest thing you could do that could change your life forever? The words that you say.
Today we learn that what we say can drastically change how you are perceived by others and how words can effect your life.
We also learn how to T.H.I.N.K. before we talk.
This Sunday we learn about laziness, known as the sluggard. We learn the 7 characteristics, the field of the sluggard and warnings about laziness. In the end we find a role model to base our work ethic on.

Proverbs 4 teaches us the importance of guarding our heart. Not just the inner emotional part of us but that part of us where all our ideas, and thoughts originate. Pastor Jon answers three key questions regarding our 'heart':

We can keep or protect our heart by:
- Filling it with TRUTH.

To become a wise steward it is helpful to consider: everything we have comes from God, the love of money is a snare, it's better to give than to receive, and God loves a cheerful giver. The portraits of the generous man and the greedy man are described. Despite what we may think, as citizens of the United States, we are rich! We are in the top 1% income bracket globally. That comes with a tremendous responsibility...to be a wise steward!

Trusting in ourselves can only lead to stress and anxiety (the crooked path). Trusting in God (the straight path) can help us avoid the pitfalls of anxiety. Following are eleven Proverbs for varied ages of growing up (and still appropriate for adults!)
- Actions show attitudes- Proverbs 20:11 “Even small children are known by their actions, whether their conduct is pure and upright”
- Be honest- Proverbs 10:9 “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.”
- Work hard- Proverbs 13:4 “The soul of a sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.”
- Speak life- Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
- One opinion (God's) matters- Proverbs 29:25 "The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is safe."
- Forgive others- Proverbs 10:12 “Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.”
- Find real friends- Proverbs 13:20 "Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm."
- Respect your parents- Proverbs 30:17 “The eye that mocks a father and scorns to obey a mother, will be picked out by the ravens of the valley and eaten by the vultures.”
- Guard your heart- Proverbs 4:23 "Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life."
- Listen to advice- Proverbs 13:13 “People who despise advice will find themselves in trouble, those who respect it will succeed.”

Building on last weeks message "How Long Will You Be Simple" our search for real treasure (wisdom) continues. We are offered a promise that 'If we' love wisdom, store it up, listen for it, submit to it, ask for it and seek it out, then we will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God Proverbs 2:5. Identifying markers of one having the fear of the Lord are: do you worship the Lord in reverence (acknowledging The Creator of the Universe), coming to Him in humility, conducting our lives in honesty, living in hope, having a spirit of contentment, being loyal, and thankful in all our ways? Proverbs 2:11-12 describes two 'body guards' at our disposal, discretion and understanding. These 'body guards' help us to identify and choose (with discernment) wisdom over folly. They help us to avoid the crooked man and strange woman in or around our lives and follow wisdom, the way of good.
Proverbs 8:11 tells us, wisdom is more precious than rubies! Though it costs us much, demanding effort to acquire, wisdom teaches us who God is, holds its value and provides us protection.
Remember King Solomons' advice: "The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have get understanding." Proverbs 4:7

Finally, take note that you have to want Lady Wisdom's help by seeking it (wisdom). Start reading Proverbs!

Nehemiah was Zealous! He displayed zeal for God's house, God's servants, God's word and God's people. He knew they are to be set apart from worldliness and sin (holy).
When we say "yes" to something, we are also saying "no" to something else. Have you said "Yes" to God?

He is faithful.

Nehemiah is the biblical example of leadership during threatening times.

When carrying out God's work, pursuing 'God Dreams', expect 'Push Back'! Nehemiah 4 illustrates 6 ways the enemy opposes children of God.
- Abuse with language
- Questions your motive
- Attacks your ability
- Mocking your effort
- Destroy your credibility
- Public humiliation
Nehemiah's response however, is amazing and is a great example for every Christian. First, he prays to God for vindication. Next, he continues the work of God, building the wall, and ignoring the opposition (not being sidetracked). When you experience push back, here are 7 additional Biblical responses to incorporate in your life:
- Don't quit: Galatians 6:9
- Dig in deep: 1 Corinthians 15:58
- Employ empowerment: Daniel 1:8
- Spin it for good: Genesis 50:20
- Consider the source: Proverbs 27:6
- Call for divine vindication: Psalm 43:1
- Take the high road (be humble) because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble: James 4:6-7

If you could snap your fingers and get your dream, what would it be? A repaired relationship, overcoming an unGodly habit, a change in your behavior? Pastor Jon shares Biblical principles from Nehemiah 3 on how God Shaped Dreams can become a reality (bringing about real positive change). This requires:
- A group of unified people. Who is next to you? We all need support or a mentor to encourage us.
- Courage of faithful leaders. Good leaders!
- A burst of dedicated labor. Pick up that first stone! Act on it! Start the work!

After receiving a 'Nehemiah Call' and acknowledging a 'Defining Moment' we begin the 'Nehemiah Ride' by taking seven steps as did Nehemiah:
- Visualize the dream (try to see the end result)
- Note the possibilities
- Sharpen the solution
- Count the cost (what resources are needed to make it happen?)
- Recruit a squad
- Claim the territory (for God)
- Start the project (sometimes we need to simply get moving!)
Our projects come in all shapes and sizes, it may be in repairing a relationship, a new step of faith in serving God, ending an addiction, a change in lifestyle, etc.

When Divine Opportunity knocks, God is calling you to do something that your fear does not want you to do. Some time (4 months?) has passed since Nehemiah felt a calling by God to help his people by rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem. (see 3-3-19 Marching On-The Nehemiah Call (Part 1)). During this time, Nehemiah's heart was being convicted (what needed to be done), a decision was made, a vision of what the end result would consist of was materializing, he was developing a plan and God was preparing him (as His servant). This is how God prepares His leaders for defining moments. This is a pattern we can follow as a follower Almighty God.

What do you do when faced with problems, challenges or trials? Are you tempted to quit? God may be asking you to persevere. He tells us in James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. Nehemiah was in such a position. The remnant of Jews in Jerusalem were broken and hurting. Nehemiah had a righteous dissatisfaction of their plight. This was not the fault of Nehemiah, but as a leader, he was prepared to take ownership of it and do something about it. By following Nehemiah's response we learn 7 Biblical ways to respond like God's leader: We need to arrive at a point of mourning, realizing the things need to change, then worship, putting our focus in the right place, then intercede, asking for God's help, then confess our shortcomings or failures, appeal to God's Word, the scriptures, then ask for His Divine assistance, and finally take responsibility or ownership of the problem and (whether or not it's your fault!). Today Pastor Chris talks on how the 33 Day Prayer Challenge affected the church.
The passages that we are in this morning is Psalms 40 and Luke 18.
We also got a sneak peak at the next sermon series which will be about "Perseverance." And a vision plan for the church for the next 5 years.
Today we will look into "The Closet" of our lives. The closet represents the place in which store our secrets.
We will learn how these secrets will affect our relationship with Christ and others.
The passage we will look into is Joshua 7.
For week 5 we will be in "the garage" learning how we can be good stewards with the possessions, talents, time, relationships, and money, that God has lent us.
The passage that will give insight to stewardship is Matthew 25: 14-29.

We were blessed with the music of Liberty University's choir this morning, with a message of Jesus through song, followed by a short message on devotion through the Psalms of David, presented by Pastor Chris Heller.
What are you pursuing in your life?
Paul gives us an excellent comparison of worldly goals vs knowing Jesus in the book of Philippians. He counts all his amazing resume as worthless compared to the priceless value of all we gain through life with Jesus.
Our heart is a home for Christ (see the book 'Our Heart, Christ's Home). The first 'room' that we invite Jesus to 'over-haul' in our hearts is the study (our mind). This is the 'control room' of our lives where our thoughts originate. It is vital to realize that our thoughts: are known by God, lead to actions, can hurt ourself and others, will be confronted and can be deceptive. To clean up our 'study' (our thoughts) we must identify traps and triggers that get us into trouble and put into place 'preset alarms' to help us avoid failure.
