Here’s my comment which you are free to reuse: I am a pharmacist and I have no doubt that changing all codeine products to prescription only is a step in the right direction. Furthermore, I do not want the burden of prescribing low dose codeine products like pharmacists do in Manitoba. Although pharmacists universally want to have more opportunities to have an impact on their patients, prescribing low dose combination codeine products carries too many risks to our patients with no evidence of effectiveness. I endorse any policy that will limit its access and use. A summary of most of my thoughts can be found on a podcast about the topic: www.youtube.com/channel/UC3QNu9_Gk9Ng9cnxmjtTRKQ

The Proposed ODB Amendment: http://www.ontariocanada.com/registry/view.do?postingId=24291&language=enn

A comment you can use: I am submitting this comment because I am opposing this amendment in its current state and have concerns about whether these cuts are necessary. By submitting this comment, I hope that the government can provide pharmacists and the public justification behind the cuts. I would also like to promote a dialogue to discuss other viable solutions. When looking at the Ontario budget and relative health spending, the data shows that expenditure on medications to fund ODB is roughly the same in 2015 (4.9 billion) as it was in 2010 (4.8 billion). In addition, ODB is covering more beneficiaries and more medications that it did previously. A lot of my concerns are highlighted in an online podcast: https://soundcloud.com/User-890679010 – Episode-0-the-2017-ontario-pharmacy-cuts. If this amendment is not passed, it will allow pharmacies to better support the minimum wage increase, without impacting our staff and our patients.
