Driven women business owners and leaders passionately improve the lives of their families, employees, communities and the customers they serve. These female professionals join Amber Hurdle each week as she uses her experience working with international celebrities, Fortune 100 companies and small businesses to show women how to increase their self-awareness, build their confidence, improve their communication, and ultimately ground themselves in their personal power. Through strong company cultures, branding, marketing, networking, business systems and smart employee practices, women in business can and will change the world.
Self proclaimed Chief Executive Boss Lady, Alexandra Watkins, joins me on the podcast today to talk names. What makes a good one, what makes a not-so-good one, and what led her to this niche? Alexandra started her career as an advertising copywriter, fell in love with naming things and quickly switched gears to branding. She eventually created her own agency - Eat My Words, with clients ranging from Amazon to Xerox, and even named one of my favorite drive through guilty pleasures (before my lovely AlphaGal experience) the BACONATOR!
Alexandra’s awesome naming insight includes:
How the purchase of “monkey tea” led her to a great networking opportunity early in her career
When creating a great brand name, think SMILE: Suggestive, Memorable, Imagery, Legs, Emotional
To test your brand name’s durability use SCRATCH: Spelling challenge, Copycat, Restrictive, Annoying, Tame, Curse of knowledge, Hard to pronounce
Always aim to make names funny and relatable, thereby making them more memorable and attracting your ideal customer
Your brand name is your longest lasting investment - make it a welcome mat, not a do not enter sign
There are ways to incorporate fun names into your business, even if you cannot change your brand name
And guess what?! Alexandra is offering our listeners a special discount for her course: How To Create Super Sticky Brand Names. Make sure to use the Promo Code BOMBSHELL to save $700 and get the course for only $199.
Not sure a new name is for you? When working for the Hotel Vitale, Alexandra and her team renamed the wedding services menu, and increased sales by 25%! This week’s episode features SEO strategist, and fellow 90’s music junkie, Meg Casebolt. After cutting social media almost entirely, Meg moved to a 25-hour workweek to spend more time thinking about creative and big-picture ideas for her business, as opposed to an arbitrary follower count. The expectations vs reality of social media marketing
Why web copy should be written to solve a problem or answer a question
Why social media is not a discovery tool, but a connection tool
Knowing your audience and how they prefer to consume your content
Using the Customer Awareness Spectrum
Focusing on depth of searches, rather than breadth

Talk about tenacity! Amanda Ament took seven years to bring her product SIMPLE bars to market with no cane sugar, no artificial sweeteners and no sugar alcohols, and she hasn’t looked back since! As a frequent traveler with MANY dietary restrictions I was an immediate fan girl! I met Amanda at a conference where her mentor shared her product from stage and I had a sample sitting in front of me, so I immediately asked her to be a guest on my podcast.
Amanda, who is remarkably young, is on a mission to educate the masses on hidden sugars found in food products, how our society normalizes it, how its effect on our bodies is extreme, and on how many health problems it causes. She wants busy professionals and beyond to understand the positive impact of quitting sugar and moving towards clean eating to support our best livelihood!
We cover everything from what she had to sort through to bring her product to market to the benefits of lowering sugar to live a healthier life without the downside of sugar binges.
Use the code AMBER20 to receive 20% off all SIMPLE bars! (I get no commission. This is just a discount code for you!)

I realized I couldn’t be the only one trying to quit sugar or lower sugar intake, so I decided to make these bars available to others facing the same challenges. We are one of the first brands to use allulose and offer a clean label. Perfect for people struggling with sugar-related issues like hashimotos, diabetes but also simply looking to eat less sugar.

Tyann Marcink Hammond has truly earned her title in the Vacation Rental Industry as the “Queen of the Guest Experience.”
Generous with her knowledge, Tyann freely shares just how she is able to drive direct bookings, repeat bookings and even capture guests' passionate testimonials because their minds are blown by their experience with her two brands: Branson Family Retreats and Missouri Haus.
But life would not be nearly full enough for this leader with remarkable bandwidth with just that! In addition to being a vacation rental owner and manager, she is a mom, a wife, and oh yeah…also a brilliant ambassador for Touch Stay digital welcome books, the co-host of The Guest Cast podcast, an industry leader and consultant, the co-creator of VR Mastered Vacation Rental Boot Camp, an author and speaker…and she still the juice to be a good friend, too! (Shew, girl!)
My team member and I were recently able to enjoy one of Tyann’s pre-conference activities on behalf of Touch Stay, and I’m here to tell you that her “queen” title is legit. Her commitment to experiences is remarkable!
One of the first in the industry to connect with me on a personal level, it’s been amazing getting to know and learn from this Bombshell, who is equally driven and pulled in a million directions as I am, and who still co-fosters a friendship that honors the ultra-busy lives we lead.

If you’re not following Lauren Madewell, Chief Operating Officer of Auntie Belham's Cabin Rentals, on LinkedIn for her insightful posts and funny guest-facing videos, you are missing out!
Her adorably on-brand campy (in the best way) guest videos both deepen the emotional connection with their brand while offering helpful guidance to make guest stays easier and less stressful. Never afraid to look goofy to share the love, she also takes her employee experience, her guest experience, her influence on the VR/STR industry, as well as her stewardship as a leader in the Great Smokey Mountain community, very seriously.
Something clicked for her at the VRM Intel Women’s Summit in 2021, and the fire that was lit ignited an inferno of activity that has ultimately put this emerging industry leader on stage among industry power houses at this year’s VRMA International Conference. (Not too shabby for someone who wasn’t even on LinkedIn, the VR industry water cooler, even a year ago!)
It’s been a JOY to watch Lauren in her becoming and to watch her love hard in all areas of her life. And of course, as a fellow Tennessean, I have mad respect for her commitment to true “southern hospitality,” as well as to honoring her ideal customer base by keeping vacations with Auntie Belham’s both affordable and magical for the average working class family.

Cue: “This Girl is On Fire,” and THEN start this episode!
Alex Husner, along with her partner in crime and our guest on episode 148, have taken the Vacation Rental Industry by storm! One of the many things I love about this Bombshell is she always operates in a spirit of continuous improvement and never settles, while taking others along with her as she elevates.
Committing to and announcing the Alex & Annie Podcast at VRMA International 2021, she and Annie took a leap of faith that paid off, and are now coming back to VRMA 2022 hosting its first ever red carpet event for the “Homerunners” premier.
She also was appointed as the Board Chair of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB, was recently appointed as CMO of Casago, a national VR brand, after achieving remarkable success as her beloved former local brand, Condo World, and was also recently appointed to the Vacation Rental Management Association's (VRMA) national board of directors.
But no need to widen any door frames to get Alex’s head through them with all of this recent success! She is a dynamo, but she is humble and hungry, using her influence to serve others, spotlight the greatness in others and drive results for her company.
Like I said in Annie’s episode preview, it was pretty hard to not get emotional in recent days as I had the inside scoop on how much fruit she was harvesting from her efforts.

Most people would describe Annie Holcombe as experienced, supportive and about as genuine as they come. This unassuming rock star came into my world, and let’s just say neither of us let the other go! We, along with her podcasting partner in Crime, Alex Husner, became fast friends, all fully committed to being women who support other women, while still cheering on the guys, too, of course! That’s why it’s been incredibly overwhelming for me to have a front row seat to her personal journey throughout the past year, watching how as her personal growth evolved, so did her personal power. Since launching the Alex & Annie Podcast, Annie increasingly dismissed where her comfort zone even was, which skyrotted her as a vacation rental authority and the podcast was featured as a Top 30 Hospitality Podcasts by the Global Hospitality Institute having been on air for less than a year!!! Join us as we have a transparent conversation about what it takes to go inward in order to shine your brightest outwardly. The week we recorded this, there were just so many wins for these two that my eyes might have leaked more than once. I think you will see what I saw in this Bombshell since the day I met her!

Robin Craigen, CEO of Moving Mountains, is the perfect example of my branding philosophy that breaks brand success into three parts: personal brands, employer brands and business brands.
You see, when leaders leverage their personal brands to uphold their company’s employer brand through communication, engagement and infusing the company’s culture into every aspect of operations, customers then enjoy a strengthened business brand experience, true to the heart and soul of the organization. It takes all three pieces working together for a company to find longstanding success.
A true leader in his industry and community, Robin figured this out along the way, and now enjoys all of the benefits that come with an intentional focus in these key areas.
Robin and his super star wife, Heather, have the best backstory that led them to where they are today: the leading luxury vacation rental management company in Colorado. (Just Google them and plenty of articles will say this for them.) I’m happy to rock the mic with him as he imparts his hard-earned wisdom while sharing it on the show.
Their focus is on creating a “wow factor” for their guest experience, but they get there by investing in their team.
Like many of us, Robin admits he probably learned the most about business the hard way, but this family business has always failed forward allowing them to enjoy consistently high net promoter scores and a direct booking rate of 70-80%.
While this is the Vacation Rental Takeover Week of the Bombshell Business Podcast, truly anyone can learn from the “WOW” factor that is Moving Mountains!

Today’s guest is someone I’ve had the privilege to get to know over the past year, and as a brand connoisseur have developed a deep respect for her unapologetically authentic personal brand.
What I’ve learned about her is that she has found her way to pursue both her passion and her vocation, as different as they may be, while overcoming limiting beliefs to successfully define and position her value within her industries. Importantly for me, anyway, I have fallen in love with her deep intention in all areas of her life, while nurturing the connections she makes along the way.

What a joy it was to chat with Jeff Madoff, who has his fingerprints all over brands such as Ralph Lauren, Victoria’s Secret, Radio City Music Hall, and the Harvard School for Public Health. He also had the opportunity to pull from his many years teaching as a professor to hone his message into easily absorbed ideas for his book and his podcast, both named Creative Careers. He talks about the value of experimenting with different forms of expression and remaining curious as you pursue various forms of education – be it reading a book, attending a play or experiencing visual or performance art. From a deep place of experience, Jeff shares how to run your ideas like your business and turn your ideas into a living. He also shares sage advice to not lose the trust of your customers – which is critical today more than ever!
Jeff says that creativity is the ability to see relationships between ideas, which I absolutely agree with! As someone who was raised (and put through private school) by a drummer and a culinarian and who is a “creative” myself, I genuinely enjoyed this episode and think you will, too!
About Jeff Madoff B. Jeffrey Madoff is the founder of Madoff Productions, based in New York City. A gifted storyteller and incisive interviewer, Jeff has used those talents to help position major brands such as Ralph Lauren, Victoria’s Secret, Radio City Music Hall, and the Harvard School for Public Health.
Jeff began his career as a fashion designer. He was chosen one of the top 10 designers in the U.S. then switched careers to film and video production. He has since expanded his reach to include teaching, book and playwriting, and theatrical producing.
He is an adjunct professor at Parsons School for Design, teaching a course he developed called Creativity: Making a Living with Your Ideas”. Every week Madoff has a conversation with a guest from a wide variety of fields, from artists and entrepreneurs to venture capitalists and business leaders. The book about his class, “Creative Careers: Making a Living with Your Ideas”, was published by Hachette in 2019. The podcast launched in 2021.

I cannot believe I’ve been in business for TEN YEARS! Apparently, I become a busy gal in October. After all, it’s my birthday month! It’s also the month that I tend to…well…birth things!
🥳As of the airing of this episode my 43rd birthday is tomorrow, October 7th.
🥳On October 1st we celebrated the FIVE year anniversary of the release of The Bombshell Business Woman: How to Become a Bold, Brave Female Entrepreneur.
🥳And on October 9th we celebrate TEN years of being in business!
🥳Later this month, just to add to it, we are launching Employer Brand Central to all!
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 65% of new businesses fail during the first 10 years. Yikes!
So in celebration of a decade in business, surviving all of the twists and turns, I present to you the five wins that I think led me to making it through the past ten years.
Yet, I also present to you the top five ways I had to fail forward. Here’s a sneak peek, but you’ll have to tune in for all the stories and reflections!
At the end of the day, you have to trust God, you have to trust yourself, you have to trust the process, you have to trust your TEAM, and you have to trust in your vision.
Thank you to my team, our customers, our vendors and agency partners, our audience members, my family and friends (especially my kids who SURE didn’t get a “normal” mom, but love and support me still), my colleagues, and everyone who has helped us live our mission of empowerment + business mastery!
Much love to you!

In this episode, epic event emcee, professional speaker, former Home Shopping Network personality and CEO of a multi-apparel company, and my sweet friend, Carolyn Strauss, shares how to harvest the best outcomes from your sphere of influence. She believes that everything is about being helpful, and the more help you offer, the more money you make. While there really is a ton of genuine advice in this episode about sales, positioning and knowing your value, this is really you being a fly on the wall as my dear friend and I real talk about our experiences as speakers, as (single) women in business who are sometimes considered “too much” and so much more. I think women will relate and men will see a different perspective that is helpful. About Carloyn Strauss Carolyn Strauss is a former CEO of a multi-million dollar apparel company featured on the Home Shopping Network, one of the top professional female emcees in the world, and a sought after professional speaker having earned her CSP. Our guest on this episode took the consumer electronics brand, Belkin, from $400 million to one billion dollars in annual revenue in only four years.
As the president of Kenmore Craftsman Diehard for Sears Holding he transformed these iconic American brands by launching Kenmore and Diehard exclusively on Amazon with Kenmore becoming the first major appliance to be sold on Amazon.
He is the former president of the Disney Stores Worldwide…and so much more!
As someone who has seen just a few economic cycles while running major brands, I could not think of a better guide for us all than my friend, Tom Park, who offers specific and sage advice, especially for middle and lower middle market companies, as we continue to move towards increasingly uncertain times.
We also talk about consumer product trends, managing expenses, focusing on the customer experience, building infrastructure to get ahead of the curve, employee retention, creating a culture of accountability to achieve budget, the importance of market share analysis, leading well and so much more.
You’re going to want to listen to this episode twice as Tom shares so many nuggets from his vast experience, all of which he continues to use today as Managing Director of Portage Point, where they offer interim management, performance improvement and board services to stakeholders in periods of distress, underperformance and transition.
About Tom Park Tom Park joined Portage Point in December 2020 and currently serves as a Managing Director offering interim management, performance improvement and board services to stakeholders in periods of distress, underperformance and transition. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors for Howard’s, a large independent appliance and consumer electronics retailer
Prior to joining Portage Point, Tom was CEO of Incipio, a consumer products company, until he left in 2019. Tom served as President of the Kenmore Craftsman Diehard for Sears Holdings. Tom was hired in 2015 to transform these iconic American brands to maximize their value by externalizing the brands after nearly 100 years of being exclusively sold at Sears. Under Tom’s leadership, the Kenmore and Diehard brands were launched exclusively on Amazon. Kenmore is the first major appliance brand to be sold on Amazon and included delivery and installation services performed by Sears. Tom was instrumental in negotiating the sale of The Craftsman Brand in 2017 to Stanley Black & Decker for $900m
Prior to joining Sears, Tom held several executive positions at Belkin International, a global leader in mobile accessories, wireless networking products and IOT smart products. Positions within Belkin included President Linksys Networking Division, President of the Americas, Chief Operating Officer and CFO. During his tenure of a dozen years, Belkin saw significant growth, more than doubling the business to $1B. Prior to Belkin, Tom spent a decade with the Walt Disney Company where he was President of the Disney Stores Worldwide. In addition, he held executive positions with Disney Consumer Products. Tom was Controller for the $3B consumer products business and Controller for Walt Disney Imagineering, the design and development group for Disney theme parks
Tom graduated from Villanova University with a BS in Accounting in 1979 and began his career with Unisys holding several positions in finance and accounting for over 12 years. Tom serves on several advisory boards, including the Villanova School of Business. Tom lives in the Los Angeles area with his wife, Lisa Adubato Park, and is the proud father of four children and one granddaughter.

Today our guest is going to teach us one of my favorite things: how to lead with curiosity. She will reveal how recognizing that failures are part of the process and will actually unlock more success. And it’s also a special guest because she is a very, very close friend of mine who knows my secrets, my dreams, my insecurities and even the successes I don’t publicly share. Tiffany Napper, the Holistic Business Coach, is a blessing to me and I know you are going to adore her, too.
In this episode Tiffany is going to ask you to start acting more like a scientist and get really curious with their next goal or project.
She challenges you to ask five questions as you look at a future challenge and notice how it unlocks new paths for success. Tune in so you can hear her unpack the deeper context to each of the questions:
1-What did you learn? 2-How much of that was within your control? 3-What could or would you do differently next time? 4-Is that valuable information to you moving forward? 5-Where would we be without this experience?
So join us in our conversation as we learn about creating awareness and acceptance, then taking aligned action, not shaming ourselves. Real talk? As I watched this back I needed it! I hope it blesses you, too!
About Tiffany Napper

According to this week’s guest, burnout is a two-way street, meaning it is incumbent upon business leaders to make sure their employees are mentally healthy and happy. It’s within a leader’s purview to ensure their culture and environment is NOT a leading driver of potential burnout. That’s why I’m excited to share my interview with my friend and colleague, author and speaker Janice Litvin, who helps us take a realistic hard look at our organizations and lives in terms of how we impact our teams, our families, and ourselves.
About Janice Litvin Janice Litvin, Burnout Speaker, is on a mission to help leaders and teams banish burnout in their organizations. As we continue to move into season 7 of the podcast I am sticking with the theme of interviewing my incredibly smart, talented friends. This week’s guest? She’s bringing her SUPERFAN formula! Everyone has the power to create superfans: loyal, enthusiastic customer advocates. In this episode my friend and Nashville neighbor, Brittany Hodak, shares her memorable, five-part framework that teaches actionable steps businesses must take to turn customers into superfans. Here’s a sneak peak at her “superfan” framework: S: Start with your story.
U: Understand your customer story. (“No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care” – President Theodore Roosevelt.)
P: Personalize. (Super fans are created at the intersection of your story and your customer stories in a way that’s memorable and meaningful to them.)
E: Exceed expectations.
R: Repeat
So whether you are a larger business or a soloproneur, by using this framework you can go from commodity provider to a category of one in the minds of your prospects and customers.

Do you want to build resilience, increase self awareness and improve your understanding of others? -Today more than ever I believe the entire world could benefit from all of these things.
Well it’s a good thing this week I was lucky enough to have Robin Hills on today’s episode of the Bombshell Business Podcast. We discuss defining emotional intelligence and how hard it is to work with emotions and that they are not fluffy, but rather hard to work with!
Robin explains the importance of identifying your individual feelings and using that data to inform what you are going to do next. You can then use that data to interact with your team, and show them much needed empathy. Part of this journey includes strengthening your self awareness by using feedback and failures as your guide, and remembering to do what feels right.
Later in the episode we focus on strengthening leadership skills by recognizing our impact on others. We need to remember that people are the sum of their past and present experiences, honor that, and know that if our engagement is misaligned we must have hard conversations in order to adjust.
So if you are ready to dive deep, look within, and ultimately increase your empathy and understanding for others, tune in on your favorite podcast app, on the website, or watch it on YouTube.

I don’t know about you, but there are times where leadership feels pretty heavy. We have a lot on us and the world seems to become an increasingly strange place to navigate, let alone lead.
That’s why I was especially grateful for my conversation with Mark Moncheck. In this episode of The Bombshell Business Podcast Mark walks us through how to come from a place of “abundant leadership.”
He then encourages us to understand the difference between being and doing, and how “doing” from a “state of being” is the most powerful form of leadership.
After all, what is your legacy in the business that you are running?
Throughout the episode, Mark challenges us to consider our impact on the world, our employees, and our communities. Then he walks us through how to pursue actual visioning of the future as he challenges us to define what we want our lives to stand for.
Tune in to consider how “abundant leadership” is different from other forms of leadership and get a heaping dose of Mark’s positive and powerful presence! You can listen on your favorite podcast app, on the website, or watch it on YouTube.

Isn’t it time to (finally) get serious about investing time and energy into YOUR wellbeing? If you want some serious inspiration to prioritize yourself in the midst of your many competing obligations, this episode featuring Megan Gallagher, a 26-year-old, two-time TEDx speaker, four-time best selling author, on-camera host and mental health advocate is for you!
Together we discuss how when you decide to take responsibility for your happiness, eat healthy and get in shape, not to mention cut out toxic people in your life, you'll notice how much better life gets!
Megan also gives specific, step-by-step advice on how to overcome some of the traps we fall into. For example, she advises when you find yourself comparing yourself to someone else, you can ask:
Step One: Have you met the person you are comparing yourself to in person? Step Two: Have you seen where and how they really live? Step Three: Have you spent 24-48 hours with them in person?
The answers to these questions are likely no, no, and no. So it’s an easy reality check to remember that you can’t compare your life to someone else’s highlight reel. (And she even reveals some of the sneaky ways people appear way more affluent than they are!)
In the end, Megan encourages listeners to take their power back and not allow any circumstances or people to decide their destiny.
It’s a must listen to episode whether you are feeling a little down in the dumps or if you are on a determined trajectory to fulfill your fiercest potential!

Andrew outlines how to go from being a "mind tenant" to a "mind owner." He says we spend far too much of our lives giving away our headspace to people who don't deserve it, and leave ourselves renting the remnants as mental tenants. Our mind is our most valuable possession, Andrew says, so becoming a mind owner is the single best investment you can make.
Of course, we have a conversation that opens us both up to our personal experiences like how and when we’ve rented our headspace out and when we’ve been determined not to. One of the many reasons I just love Andrew is because he is both real and intentional, and I think you will find yourself lost in this conversation as you consider how many of your thoughts you own versus how many you surrender to others or even “other versions of yourself.” (Yeah, that one hit me in between the eyes, too! I SO do that sometimes! You’ll have to listen to find out what that means!)
It is true that our thoughts lead to beliefs and then action. So personally, I’m always a work in progress, but I can attest that when I have applied these principles, I have had much more success in managing my mind AND the outcomes in my life. So tune in now on your favorite listening app or watch it on YouTube to take back full ownership and occupancy of your mind!

Want to gain more confidence in your sales and ask for your worth with ease? I’d say you likely do, because according to our guest, Dr. Naieema Jackson, less than 10% of women-owned businesses ever experience a six-figure income year!
What?
How do we fix this?
We “slay!”
Yep, Dr. Naieema offers her signature SLAY system for closing more sales with ease:
S-Sales: Understand the psychology behind sales.
L-Language: Know your ideal client and use the words that they use in your sales copy.
A-Automate: Create a way to nurture your prospects in a meaningful way.
Y-Your Offers: Build your offer suite of no more than 3 offers that are positioned in a premium way.
Dr. Naieema’s back story on choosing to lay down the identity she thought society required of her and instead step into her true identity and purpose is enlightening. In our conversation she shares how assessments fast tracked her to understanding she is a natural salesperson, which is why she shares that your success always begins with self-awareness.
(Know anyone else who says this? )
We also cover the lies women tell to themselves that limits their earning potential, key strategies you can use to grow your customer base, and so much in between! So…
Who run the world?
Girls.

In this episode of the Bombshell Business Podcast I teach you the Bombshell Business Woman Coaching Framework, so no matter what you are going through, or who is or is not available to talk you through a challenge, you will have the framework to coach yourself through any problem.
Move through these five filters to go from overthinking and flustered, to strategic, supported, and purposeful.
Heart: Unlock your truth
Mind: Create your strategy
Grit: Ground yourself in unwavering strength
Community: Seek and share support
Service: Harness and focus your greatness
When you get in the routine of running your specific problems through these filters, you will see just how simple it is to overcome analysis paralysis and lean into your inner knowing. After all, the only person who has the answers to your life is YOU.
Can a great coach ask great questions to help you find your truth? Absolutely. But what if you got in the habit of coaching yourself? Great leaders lead themselves first. Oh, and remember…progress, not perfection!

The day after I got home from one of the most epic weeks I’ve had in a long time, speaking at and attending one of the most inspiring conferences ever, I immediately managed to kick off an equally horrible week, where the fit totally hit the shan…alllll week long. So in this episode I share my crummy week, then uncover the reasons why we can go from an epic week to a shiz show just like that. Then, I touch on how we can best survive the chaos until we can get our legs steady again. We cover a variety of perspectives, so you are certain to find something that speaks to you during these seasons, including: What psychological resistance is and how to know if you are dealing with that or external resistance or circumstances beyond your control. Gay Hendrick’s philosophy on “upper limit problems” in his book, The Big Leap. Biblical philosophy on why you need “full armor.” The competitive athlete’s perspective on challenges and how they train you to go from good to great, outpacing the competition. This BOMBSHELL IS BACK! That’s right! We rebranded the podcast BACK to Bombshell Business Podcast because the truth is the majority of you are women, and the men who engage in our community are self-aware, hungry to learn and totally secure in their masculinity to continue to be a “Bombshell Boy.”
In this episode I share that my social legacy is empowering women not just with confidence, but with personal power. And then I break down with data (of course) why women are simply less confident than men before social norms, wounds, or jackass professional men doing gross things even come into play.
Tune in now to get OK with not being inherently confident. (You’re not designed to be.) Then, hear about the solution for you to help you practice confidence like you would tennis, cooking, or anything you desire to get better at.

When women do negotiate, they ask for 30 percent less money than men do.
On average, men five years into their career think they deserve $80,000 a year and the women $64,000—or 20 percent less.
Hewlett-Packard discovered several years ago, that women working at HP applied for a promotion only when they believed they met 100 percent of the qualifications listed for the job. Men were happy to apply when they thought they could meet 60 percent of the job requirements.
“Men have about 10 times more testosterone than women do, impacting everything from speed to strength to muscle size to competitive instinct…
...Recent research has tied high testosterone levels to an appetite for risk taking.”
“Our brain is ‘hard-wired’ to be negative. Neuroscience shows that the majority of our self-talk is negative — it’s working against us. These negative thoughts make us feel angry, irritated, frustrated, hopelessness.” (Thrive Global)
We can actually train our brains to become more confident. Recent discoveries in neuroscience suggest our brains have the quality of "neuroplasticity," meaning the networks it uses to communicate information are malleable much later into life than previously thought. (Big Think)
“Confidence is not a fixed attribute; it’s the outcome of the thoughts we think and the actions we take. New research into neural plasticity reveals that we can literally rewire our brains in ways that affect our thoughts and behavior at any age.” (Forbes)

I cannot believe I (finally) made it to 100 episodes! And on top of that? My 100th episode publishes on my BIRTHDAY! So, let’s double celebrate!
As I reflect on the top five lessons I’ve learned through producing 100 podcast episodes, I also want to issue you five challenges. Then, I want to share some reflections and real talk about my past less than festive year because you know I’m transparent and someone needs to hear my story.
Be sure to tune in for the backstory on each of the five lessons, but here is the quick recap to follow along: Top 5 Lessons Learned in 100 EpisodesLesson 1: People are AWESOME! YOUR CHALLENGE: Determine who you need to meet and where you need to go to meet them. Then go find the people who can help you on your journey! Lesson 2: The person who wins is not the best, it’s the person who doesn’t give up! YOUR CHALLENGE: Identify something that you think you can’t do or are not good enough to do - something you are hesitant about doing -- and then commit to a time frame that you absolutely won’t give up, no matter how many times you fail. Lesson 3: Get out of your comfort zone. YOUR CHALLENGE: What are you not doing right now because you are afraid you are going to look stupid? What do you need to get out of your comfort zone? Decide what that is, then do it! Lesson 4: People need your light. YOUR CHALLENGE: Fill in the blank: My light is that I do ______________. (And then put that in the comments of YouTube or my social media for this episode or email me what that is at amber@amberhurdle.com.) Lesson 5: Just do you. YOUR CHALLENGE: Listen to episode #5 and develop your personal brand so you are clear on who you are and how you best serve others to develop unshakeable confidence. Birthday Reflections There’s been a lot of change in my life in the past year. I mean A LOT. All is well and love reigns, but as real as I’ve always been with you all, it felt like a good time to finally pull back the curtain and let you know about some of the changes. Maybe it will encourage you or explain some of the wonkiness of a “branding expert’s” inconsistency, and I know it will allow me to step into the light and out of the shadows, so I can get back to being who I am and doing what I do best.
Importantly, I want you to know you are seen, treasured, and let me be clear that serving you is my life’s work. Thank you for being exactly who you are.
Here’s to a fresh year of life and another 100 episodes! xo LINKS AND MENTIONED RESOURCES The Bombshell Business Woman Chapter 14: How to Network Like a Lady Boss

Why Did I Create the Bombshell Business App? Through listener surveys and one-to-one conversation with listeners I discovered that Bombshells listen to me on their phones, on the go, and rarely found the time to visit my website to leverage links or downloads in the show notes. So the purpose of this app is to provide a convenient way for women in business to learn and connect on the go, and to strengthen the Bombshell community. What are the Features of the Bombshell Business App? In this episode of the Bombshell Business Podcast Amber Hurdle talks about how to handle both success and rejection throughout the execution of your media plan. This episode builds on Part 1, which taught you how to lay a foundation for a successful media relations effort, and Part 2, which taught you how to make it easy for the media to cover you. Build on Your Successes -Use one media appearance to get another to showcase your media presence, topics that you are able to speak to, and -Work to create a variety of coverage through visual, print, audio, video, new media and traditional media, etc... -Use one testimonial to get another. Reviews of your product or service can serve as an additional tool to build your credibility for your potential customers and to the media. How to Deal with Rejection Grow thicker skin! You have no idea what is going on behind the scenes of any given media outlet. It can be a variety of things to include: -It’s the wrong timing -It’s the wrong audience -It’s the wrong market -You’re not a celebrity and they only cover celebrities Remember, “no”s are free. (My favorite Lindsay-ism!) Don’t get your feelings hurt. Move on to the next outlet and build, build, build from there. Stay Humble and Hungry You are never going to be so important that you can come in with an attitude. Keep your humble britches on. The end. On Hiring a Publicist It is not a magic bullet. Do your homework and hire the right fit for you, your industry and your audience. Be totally clear on your goals and plan so you can communicate that to your publicist and measure their effectiveness. (Go back and listen to Episode 39 to be sure this is done!) Publicists highly likely have media relationships you may not have, so they can pitch to someone who knows whoever they are pitching is a sure thing--and it has nothing to do with you at all! Hiring a publicist is an expense that won’t necessarily give you an immediate return, but is a long term investment in your goals. Plan, Plan, PLAN! Keep things in perspective for the long term impact media coverage will have on your business. The Bombshell Business Woman has an entire chapter (13) on how to create a Red Lipstick Marketing Plan, and chapter 14 is all about Networking Like a Lady Boss. Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode I celebrate my first year podcasting to serve Bombshell Business Women worldwide while sharing the lessons I learned from stepping outside of my comfort zone to do it. I hope sharing my lessons will help you approach important, and sometimes uncomfortable, goals in your business with a new perspective. Lesson Two: I confirmed my natural work style—including my main weakness--and why I am willing to struggle through to overcome it. Lesson Three: I confirmed (big time) my passion for women in business. Lesson Four: Lean on people to help reach your specific goals. Lesson Five: In order to (truly) learn I have to lead. I share why I don’t want you to pre-order it (yet), and how you can help make it become a success! In this episode of the Bombshell Business Podcast Amber Hurdle chats with Marisa Sergi, a 23-year-old Cornell University alumna, who discusses how one meeting moved her business from a dream and graduation requirement to a real life business. Marisa shares how her love of hot wings and wine kickstarted her business journey, and how risk taking has landed Redhead Wine on the shelves of Walmart in September. In this episode we chat about:
Marisa’s story as a winemaker and CEO/Founder of Redhead Wine
The key to sales
The importance of intentionality and follow through for business success
The value of risk taking and seeking the expertise of others
About Marisa Sergi Marisa’s love affair with wine started in the basement of her parents’ home with a sippy cup at age 5. In fifth grade, she went public with her dream of being a winemaker. A third-generation winemaker, she came by her career choice naturally, having grown up in the family winery business, and in 2015, she graduated from Cornell with a degree in Enology and Viticulture. She also interned for and worked at E&J Gallo Winery in California. Her senior year capstone project at Cornell led to the launch of RedHead Wine - a unique blend of California Zinfandel and Chilean Carménère. Her overall goal is to create an iconic brand, with a broad product line. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
