In this episode of the Grown-Up Pixels Podcast I go through my favorite tracks in the Donkey Kong Country OST for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. I talk about my experience with the game on the first small part of the episode, then its all music from then on out. Recently Sony announced that they will be releasing the PlayStation 1 Mini. If you don’t know what they mean by “Mini”, they are referring to a much smaller version of their original home console. Similar to the Nintendo Entertainment System Mini and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System Mini released by Nintendo. The system will come preloaded with twenty PS1 games, two controllers, HDMI port to connect into modern day televisions and what I believe to be buttons that replicate the original PlayStation 1 consoles open disc, power, and reset buttons respectively.
As of right now, there hasn’t been an official list of games that are confirmed to come with the PlayStation Mini. My hunch is that they will bundle the most popular games the console had. Although I know that’s a good idea and that might help the mini console sell better, I hope they don’t do that. Most of the Top selling PlayStation 1 games have already been available on later PlayStation consoles for years now. Why would we want this console if it has the same games that have already been released multi times over? I can almost guarantee that the final fantasy 7 will most likely be bundled with it, anyone that cares about the final fantasy series has already played that game multiple times over on multiple consoles or on their mobile device. How about they release final fantasy 8 instead? We haven’t seen that released anywhere since it first came out.
Ultimately I would like to see games that are super classics, have a huge following is the mini ps sells well but nothing that Larry has more than 4 releases. Here is. A list of a couple of games I would love to see

Yeah, you might say that this list I ridiculous but I don’t think it’s more ridiculous than having the same games that people that would be buying this console already own on multiple consoles.
The PlayStation 1mini is being priced at 100. When I first that price I felt that it was a little high. Again, it might all depend on the games that come out with the mini console to warrant at kind of price. I went ahead and pre-ordered off Amazon the moment I saw thyme were up. I did it because I was genuinely excited to hear about he Mini console and I’ve been on a mini console journey with both the NES mini and the SNES mini. I think its really gonna come down to the games that are being bundled with it. If we get tons of repeats then I don’t know if it would be really worth it or not. Maybe just the fact that it’s a mini console is worth the price in itself?
When this mini console was first announced, I think there was mixed feelings towards it. I preordered mine as soon as I saw it go up on amazon. I did it because I hate wanting something and having to hunt all over town and online just to not be able to find it anywhere. Since then I have gone back to check on the preorders and have found that amazon had stopped doing them. I also checked other major retailers and there was nothing up for preorders, so maybe this thing will be in demand? Ultimately I’m covered whether it becomes difficult to find or not. I’m well aware that Sony will most likely create scarcity for an item like this. It’s a good way to determine if they should continue on this trend of mini consoles or if they should just call it quits after the first one.

In this episode, I discuss my first impressions of the Mega Man 11 Demo. Overall I liked the demo. I feel as though Capcom is taking this new mega man in a positive direction. It also gives me hope for what future Mega Man X games might also be like. Its a short episode but a good one. Also, incase you didn’t know, Grown-Up Pixels also has a facebook and youtube page. Just wanted to talk about a couple of the things that have been on my mind today. The biggest thing I want to talk about is Shenmue 1 & 2. I’m still waiting for my game to arrive from Amazon. Although I’m having to wait almost a week later than everyone that bought it digitally, I really wanted a physical version of the game. I feel with the game as classic as it is, it’s most likely gonna be a collector’s item in the future.
I also recently heard the news that Grandia 1 & 2 are going to be released this fall on the Nintendo Switch. I still own both games on their respective consoles but never finished Grandia 1. Lastly, I recently went over to a buddy’s house to play video games. Turns out that everyone that attended owned a switch, including me. Although the party was ALOT of fun, it did make me realize that the Switch doesn’t have as many good multiplayer games as I originally thought it did. Everyone owned the same games. It was still a lot of fun! I missed the laughing and trash talking that goes on when your playing with people in the same room. Episode 15 of the Grown-Up Pixels Podcast is 100% inspired by the recent Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 and 2. As of lately I have been seeing Mega Man X everywhere. Most of my gamer friends are currently playing through the legacy collections and its been fun to see everyone talking about it and sharing their thoughts about what’s good and bad about the different games. By far Mega Man X is my favorite game in the entire series. With all the hype going around I felt what better way to celebrate the series than by sharing the soundtrack of my favorite game. Possible July 2018 Pickups
The month of July 2018 has a couple of different titles that I’m interested in picking up. All of the games are on either the Nintendo Switch or the Sony PlayStation 4. Here is the small list of possibly July 2018 pickups that I might be picking up this month, in order of release date.
- Toads Treasure Tracker for the Nintendo Switch
I recently played the demo of Toads Treasure Tracker with my 2-year-old daughter. I thought it would be simple enough for her to positively contribute to playing the game but she isn’t fully there yet. She did really like the simplicity of the game and the fact that she is able to shoot tomatoes as a second player got her really into the game. As a result of her excitement, I do plan on picking this game up for the Nintendo Switch.
I have already played and beaten this game on the Nintendo Wii U. I already know what to expect and the amount of engagement that it will bring. I have seen a couple of Mario Odyssey stages that would be new to this particular version, but ultimately as I mentioned earlier, I want this game to further bond with my daughter. I’ll let you all know how it goes.
- Octopath Traveler for the Nintendo Switch
I’m looking forward to this game. I thought it had an interesting look to it when I played the demo. Everyone I hear talking about this game absolutely loved the demo. I gotta be honest here, I lost interest in the demo really quickly. There was a lot of talking and I just couldn’t get too into the dialogue. I ended up skipping much of the dialogue and eventually just lost interest. I played the demo so long ago that I really don’t have a good perception of it anymore as it comes close to being released.
So while the demo didn’t keep me engaged, why am I still entertaining the idea of still picking this game up? Honestly, I think its a combination of it being a SquareEnix game and just my memories of playing RPGs when I was a kid. I used to love going through a game and seeing the story unfold, my characters developing throughout. Leveling up and making my characters strong enough to destroy the next boss. Lastly, I enjoyed seeing the cool magic or fighting effects that would happen during the fights themselves. I think for all these reasons I still wanna check out Octopath Traveler. I’ll most likely be attempting the demo again before actually getting the game.
- Sonic Mania Plus for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch
Sonic Mania Plus is a tricky game for me. If you have followed any of my content prior to this blog post you’ll know that I was super into Sonic Mania when it first came out. I bought it for both the Nintendo Switch and the PlayStation 4. I streamed all of my progress through that game on the PS4 and have yet to finish it again on the Switch. I really enjoyed the game and loved the revival of classic Sonic gameplay.
Truth be told, the reason why I’m thinking about getting this game again is that I’m just a sucker for sega. I have been a sonic fan since the Genesis days and throughout the years have seen Sega go through tons of ups and even more downs. It’s because of that I tend to support Sega in a lot of the games they release. I want to see succeed. Mania Plus does have a couple of additions that the original game didn’t have. They have two brand new characters that are from the old sonic games and comics. They have a couple of new versions of past stages and possibly a couple of new stages altogether, although that I’m not too sure about. If the game is priced at $40, I might wait a little bit, if it’s priced at $30 than its a for sure pickup.

Grown-Up Pixels Podcast Episode 8 is full of video game music and some music that should be video game music. This is a particularly special episode for me. While working on this episode my baby boy was born. We all spent two weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit, due to him having breathing issues. It was difficult to really work on anything while being in the NICU. I was able to finally finish editing the episode and get it out once he was home safe.

Grown-Up Pixels Podcast Episode 7 is full of new information and a brand new segment that I’m testing out for the podcast. Welcome everyone to the very first Grown-Up Pixels Mixtape Vol. 1!
This weeks episode is different from the usual Grown-Up Pixels Podcast Episode, it’s the very first Mixtape Vol. 1! The mixtape is made up of the background tunes that played during episode 1 of the usual podcast. The first episode was particularly short due it being an introduction. Welcome everyone to the very first episode of the Grown-Up Pixels Podcast!
Introduction
Hello everyone, and welcome to the first ever Grown-Up Pixels Podcast. This is episode 1 and my name is Mario. I have been playing video games since the 80’s, starting with the NES. Ever since then I have been playing non-stop. In addition to playing video games, I also enjoy video game music.
What is Grown-Up Pixels?
Grown-Up Pixels was originally created to document my video game life. Since then I have slowly changed what Grown-Up Pixels is really about. It’s now about creating a community around people that enjoy video games. More specifically, people that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and are now adults, Of course, everyone is welcome, but because I was a kid during those years, I relate more with that generation of gamers. Many of us now have tons of responsibilities that require most of our attention but still very much enjoy video games. Some of us might not even get to play games as much as we used to, but still enjoy keeping up with the news, music, watching videos, listening to podcasts and passing down our love for games with the younger generations. If you could relate to some of that…your definitely Grown-Up Pixel!

I think, for the time being, the podcast will be a weekly podcast. I’m currently a one-man show. Once I get things in check and get into a routine, I might be able to do two episodes a week. I’m really not sure how much work this podcast is going to require, so we’ll see.
