Sermon:
Mother’s Day “Compassion and Courage by Faith”
Scripture: Exodus 1-2:1-10, 23-25 Hebrews 11:23-28
Notes:
This Mother’s Day, we’ll be looking at one of the greatest heroes of the Hebrews:
Moses. In Hebrews 11, his accomplishments are showcased and his motivation for
doing so was by faith. The history surrounding his birth in Exodus 1-2 shows a
violent and hostile Pharaoh attempting to defeat and oppress the Hebrew people.
Fortunately for Moses, the King of Egypt’s attempts to thwart God’s plan failed.
What worked against Pharaoh were compassionate and courageous women living
by faith.
Men and women, mothers and fathers are called to live by faith, just as they did!
BY FAITH: Protect your child’s heart from evil.
Is it a popular game that’s filled with vile content?
Is it music that doesn’t align with your values?
Is it a friendship that needs boundaries?BY FAITH: Spend time with the next generation.
There are young adults you can guide and encourage.
There are students of all ages who would benefit from your experiences.
There are young couples who need prayers and support.

Christians who care do not judge one another.
1. We must have discernment in the Christian life.
Christian love is not blind.
2. We have to start with ourselves.
Before we criticize someone else, we should see if perhaps there is something
worse in our own life.
3. Jesus Christ is Lord.
4. Have priorities and deal with the things that are important.
5. We must show love and patience
It is not wrong to exercise judgment: it is wrong to be judgmental.
It is not wrong to have discernment. But it is wrong to think we are the only ones
who are right.

He explained what we should do - restore
He told us why we should do it - because of the law of Christ, (which is the law of love.)
Then he stated how we should do it - with meekness.
Christians Have A Two-Fold Ministry.
First, The Ministry Of Reconciliation.Make Christians,
Mark Christians, and
Mature Christians.
Second, The Ministry Of Restoration,

I want to tell you something from observation.
I have never met anyone who tithed who did not tend to be happy about the fact he did. He was not just happy about tithing…but about a lot of other things.
I’ve never met anybody who tithed very long, who gave it up.
I have never met anyone who tithed who did not say at some time it has been extremely difficult…
Generous people seem to be the happy ones.
Miserly people seem to be the unhappy ones.
The critical spirit is with those who are not giving people.
Just look around you and you can tell.

Today we have learned that God owns EVERYTHING. Our unwillingness to tithe certainly is a contradiction to this truth. The Lord spoke through Moses and said, “The tithe…is the Lord’s!” (Leviticus 27:30) Exclamation point – not a question mark.
That statement means that 10% of our income should be given each week, or each month, to the work of the Lord through His church. The other 90% should also be managed wisely.
Five Biblical Reasons Every Christian Should Be a Tither
In Malachi 3:8-10 the Bible teaches that if we do not tithe,
we are robbing God! Isn’t it unthinkable that a Christian
would steal from anyone – much less, his God? We must
continually remind ourselves that we do not give the tithe –
we simply return it! It already belongs to God.
In John 14:15 Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments.”
Nothing will loosen the purse strings like good, old fashioned Christian love! We give the best gifts to those we love!
In Psalm 116:12-14 the Lord reminds us that since we have received so much, we should respond by giving much! We have received God’s Son, His salvation, His presence, His blessings, and we will receive His Heaven…How can we think of giving Him less than a tithe?
God has promised a blessing to those who are faithful in the Stewardship of Giving! See Malachi 3:10-11; Proverbs 3:9-10; Matthew 6:33; Luke 6:38. Faith in God’s promises is reflected by obedience to His Word!
REQUIREMENT
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse…”
RESPONSE
“…and test me now in this…”
REWARD
“…open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows.” (Malachi 3:10)
My Response –
My commitment to tithe is based upon the following truths:
Therefore, I commit the first 10% of my income to the Lord through Plainfield Christian Church.
( ) I will begin tithing ( ) I already tithe
( ) I would like to set up a Breeze account to give online.

That’s the title of an old song whose lyrics go like this: “I was sinking deep in sin, Far from the peaceful shore, Very deeply stained within, Sinking to rise no more, But the master of the sea, Heard my despairing cry, From the waters lifted me, Now safe am I” I was reminded of that song as I was reading from the Book of Job – chapters 23-24. Take the time to read through these two chapters—they're magnificent! Job's first theme seems to be, "I am unable to locate the presence of God, but I trust You, Lord." I find that coming through loud and clear in the first twelve verses of chapter 23. It seems that Job has a courtroom in mind. "I wish I knew the bench on which Almighty God sits. I wish I knew where I could locate Him. Some place—anyplace—on this earth that I could get to Him." There is a wonderful truth in these words, that reveal a truly remarkable thing about our God. When we stop running and rebelling. When we finally surrender our will to His. When we turn around and come to Him just as we are, we never hear Him shout, "Shame on you!" God hears our pleading, our feelings of need, and He is quick to respond, "I forgive you. I love you. I understand you. I'm here; I commend you for facing the truth." Notice how Job refers to the Lord's response: “Would He contend with me by the greatness of His power? No, surely He would pay attention to me. There the upright would reason with Him; And I would be delivered forever from my Judge.” (Job 23:6–7) All of God's people need to learn this valuable truth from our God. When people come, open and vulnerable with their confession, there is one appropriate three-word response: “I forgive you.” They don't need to be put on the spot or shamed because they failed. They need the assurance of forgiveness. Job asks, "Would He contend with me?" Then he answers himself, "He would not contend with me, even though He's much more powerful. He would pay attention to me. I could reason with Him, and I would be delivered forever from my Judge." How wonderful is that? If someone confesses wrong, there’s one appropriate response: I forgive you

Synopsis: "Plainfield Christian Church is committed to helping people become "firmly rooted"
and be built up in Christ. Jesus shared a parable in Matthew 13 which highlights the importance
of roots in a believer's life. From the smallest blade of grass to the tallest oak, roots are vital for
life. In the same way, roots are necessary for Christian maturity. Three great ways to grow are to
get rooted in Community, Scripture and Service this year."

The purpose of Christmas was for God to come into the world and pay the price for sin.

Sermon: Zechariah's Song Luke 1:67-80
The theme is not hard to find. Verse 68 and verse 78.

Why Christian Unity Matters
Scripture:
John 17:20-26
Matthew 17:1-8
Ephesians 4:24, 29-30
Notes:
We are Undenominational. Their plea was and still should be – we don't claim to be the only Christians. We just want to be Christians only.
1. It Is The Desire Of The Savior.
2. It's The Delight Of The Saints.
3. It's The Dread Of Satan.
What Is The Basis Of Our Unity? Jesus Only
Someone has said that there are only two kinds of speakers: those who have something to say; and those who have to say something!
1. It is Jesus only in creation.
2. It is Jesus only in redemption.
3. It is Jesus only in the Bible
4. It is Jesus only in prophecy.
The Old Testament message was Jesus Is Coming.
The Gospels message was Jesus Has Come.
From Acts to Revelation the message is Jesus Is Coming Again!
5. It is Jesus only in the church.

A magnificent example of the need for prayer

1. At the grave of Lazarus,
2. At Gethsemane
3. At the cross
What hour?
Two eternities were about to meet: eternity past and eternity future, and they would meet at the cross.
1. When all prophecies of salvation were fulfilled, 2. When all promises of salvation were fulfilled,
3. When all the specific prophecies of Messiah were fulfilled,
4. When all the types and all the symbols were fulfilled.
5. Triumph over the prince of this world.
6. Dismissing the old and ushering in the new.
A. To blot out the power of the curse,
B. To reconcile sinners to God,
C. To illuminate the obscured spiritual kingdom.
He means:

2. The Resurrection; and, subsequently,
3. The Ascension; and, subsequently,
4. The Coronation.

B. The most triumphant outcome possible
A. They thought was all shame,
B. The Lord knew was all glory.

The first work of the Father in this great vineyard is: To totally remove fruitless branches.

Jesus is clearly teaching here that this is what the Father will do in our lives to make us bear
more fruit.
What exactly is this fruit that God is expecting from us? Christlikeness – His character

Scripture: John 14:8-14; Hebrews 10:19-20; Philippians 2:9-11; Acts 4:12
Notes:
I. What it doesn’t mean
II. The importance of names in the Bible First, names in the Bible often represent the character of a person. Lord means Master, Jesus means Savior, and Christ means the Anointed One sent from God. Second, names also represent authority Third, names represent a person’s reputation
III. What it means to pray “In Jesus’ Name”
1. you are confessing your faith that Jesus Christ is the only way to God.
2. you are acknowledging that His name is the supreme name in the universe.
3. you are admitting there is no power to answer your prayers in any other name, including your own.
4. you are submitting your will to His will because He knows what is best.
5. you are asking that God’s reputation be enhanced through the answer to your prayer.
6. you are asking that everything you ask for be consistent with God’s character, God’s will, and God’s Word.
IV. What Difference Should It Make?
1. It should fill our prayers with praise.
2. It should drive us back to the Word.
3. It should deepen our sense of total dependence on Christ.
4. It should cause us to ask, “Lord, what do you want to do in this situation?”
5. It should cause us to pray more for God’s glory and less for our own gratification.

Sermon: The Chronological Life of Christ #154 The Final Week The Lord’s Supper
Scripture: Matthew 26:26-29
Notes: The purpose of this meal was not to eat food, but to establish a memorial.
This meal was not primarily for the body; it was primarily for the memory.
I. Never Forget The Love God Has For Us Galileans celebrated on Thursday because they marked the Passover day from sunrise to sunrise. Judeans celebrated on Friday because they marked the Passover from sunset to sunset. This day was a graphic reminder of how terrible sin is, and how much God loves His people.
II. Never Forget The Life Christ Gave For Us
• The Passover Table would be set with the Seder Plate containing:
• Karpas – a green vegetable (usually parsley) dipped in salt water near the beginning of the meal symbolizing spring and rebirth
• Haroset – a mixture of chopped apples, nuts, wine, and spices symbolizing the mortar the slaves had to make for the bricks in Egypt
• Maror – the bitter herbs (usually horseradish) to symbolize the bitterness of slavery
• Beitzah – roasted eggs to symbolize the festival of sacrifice
• Zeroa – a roasted bone, usually a shank bone to represent the roasted lamb
• Salt Water as a symbol of the tears of slavery
• Beside the Seder plate would be Matzot: three pieces of unleavened bread in a Matzah Cover with 3 compartments.
The Passover meal included four cups, each of which stood for one line from Exodus 6:6-7.
The Cup of Sanctification —- “I will bring you out”
The Cup of Deliverance/Plagues/Judgment —- “I will deliver you”
The Cup of Redemption/Blessing —- “I will redeem you”
The Cup of Praise/Hope/Kingdom/Salvation/Restoration —- “I will take you for My people”

How can we respond when we face fear, resistance, and uncertainty when it comes to telling others about Jesus?
In the Bible physical healing was a sign of Spiritual healing.
Maybe we’re not seeing miracles anymore because we’re not asking for them.
When fear rises and resistance comes, are you going To believe in Jesus?
What was the first church’s response to resistance? Prayer.
Prayer is our way of connecting with God.

Notes:
First, There’s The Judgment. Verse 31.
When He came the first time, there was little glory to be seen.
Over His first coming, write the world HUMILITY
Over His Second Coming write the word GLORY
When He finally returns, every eye will see Him
Secondly, The Surprising Separation Verses 32-33.
We sort all types of things. Laundry, boys and girls, candy, weeds from vegetables, money.
Sheep to the right, goats to the left. This judgment is a public separation of the two groups of people
Thirdly, The Surprising Standard.
The blessed are where they are because of what they had done for Jesus.
There is real judgment for those who reject God and His ways.
This verse conclusively refutes two contemporary heresies, universalism and annihilationism.
Universalism is the belief that in the end everyone, everywhere will be saved.
Annihilationism, as its name suggests, is the belief that the unsaved do not suffer eternal punishment but are simply destroyed by God.
Fourthly, there is one more surprise in the parable.
Neither the sheep nor the goats, the blessed on the right nor the cursed on the left, had any idea that what they had being doing had eternal consequences.

Scripture:
Matthew 25:14-30
Titus 2:11-14
1 Peter 4:7-11
Notes:
The first parable tells us how to get ready.
The second tells us what to do until Jesus comes.
Act I describes the departure.
Act II, the owner calls for an accounting.
The first answer is – something!
The second answer is – it all depends

Ready and Waiting
Scripture:
Mark 13:1-37
Notes:
This chapter is about discipleship. Jesus isn't making 'end time' experts. He's making present time disciples.
Four Ways All Disciples Of Every Generation Are To Live:
1. We must live with DISCERNMENT.
Discernment is the ability to think biblically and accurately to determine right from wrong and truth from error.
A. Spiritual DECEPTION.
B. Typical DISASTERS.
Jesus isn't saying these disasters are the signs of His coming. Jesus is saying these disasters are signs He's telling the truth.
2. We must live with COURAGE.
3. We must live with EXPECTATION.
4. We must live with VIGILANCE.

is
"the Son of God."
I. His Sinless Walk
II. His Sovereign Work
A. He Exercised Divine Power
1. Jesus had power over death.
2. He also had power over disease.
3. Jesus had power to forgive sins.
B. He Exercised Divine Perception
III. His Self Witness
1. Jesus Himself claimed to be God.
IV. His Supreme Worship

Sermon: The Chronological Life of Christ #143: The Final Week Final Exams #2: Sadducees and Heavenly Relations
Scripture: Mark 12:18-27
Notes:
1. The Religious Antagonists Verse 18 Sadducees were another priestly group of Jews who were more conservative in their theology than the Pharisees, yet more liberal in their politics. Sadducees say there is no resurrection. They didn't believe in the immortality of the soul. They didn't believe in life after death. They didn't believe in a final judgment before God. They didn't believe in a supernatural world. They completely rejected the existence of angels and demons, or heaven and hell. They only believed the first five books of the Old Testament written by Moses called the Pentateuch.
2. The Ridiculous Argument Verses 19-23. They attempt to trap the Son of God with the Word of God. 3. The Reliable Answer Verses 24-27 A. Jesus says: You are wrong about GOD Verse 24 B. Jesus says: You are wrong about MARRIAGE. Verse 25. Notice carefully that we DO NOT become angels when we die. How will we be like the angels? 1. Like angels, our entire existence will be defined by our worship of and service to God. 2. Like angels, there will be no possibility of death.
3. Like angels, we will not be married. C. Jesus says: You are wrong about the RESURRECTION. Verses 26-27 Not, “I was the God of your father,” But, “I am the God of your father.”

Scripture:
Mark 12:13-17; Philippians 3:20; Luke 23:1-2
Notes:
1. THE AWKWARD ALLIANCE.
The Pharisee's and the Herodians agreed about nothing and fought about everything.
1. The Herodians saw the Pharisee's as religious fanatics. The Pharisees saw the Herodians as secular pagans.
2. The Herodians were pro-Herod, therefore pro-taxes. The Pharisee's were anti-Herod, therefore anti-taxes.
2. THE INSINCERE APPROACH.
A. They first come at Jesus under the cloak of flattery.
3. THE BRILLIANT ANSWER.
A. They want Jesus to say something careless, but He says something flawless.
God-Given Responsibilities to the Government.
A. OBEY. Romans 13:1-5
B. PAY. Romans 13:6-7
C. PRAY. 1 Timothy 2:1-3

Scripture: John 20:1, 11-13
Notes: PCC Adult Choir Cantata – “Jesus the Undefeated One”
Sermon:
The miracle worker. The blind eye, deaf ear, lame limb, Healer. The Teacher of truth, the Prince of power, laid still in a cold, dark tomb.
The disciples were fearful, the women were weeping, and the earth was sorrowful.
We have those periods of darkness, don’t we? We have those “dark nights of the soul,”
The thick and dreadful darkness of doubt.
God didn’t send Jesus to this earth because we needed a miracle worker.
We needed a Savior
One that could die and rise again...
One that was victorious over death, hell and the grave.
And that’s good news today, because it doesn’t matter what the devil has done, what the doctor has said, what the circumstances in life are saying to you.

Scripture:
Mark 11:1-11
Notes:
1. The story of the Triumphal Entry is only the second event of the life of Jesus to be recorded in all four Gospels.
2. Jesus is in complete control of everything that happens on Palm Sunday.
1. He will come as a gentle king riding on a donkey.
2. He will come as a righteous king bringing salvation to His people. I am your King, but I am not the King you were expecting!” The waving of palm branches – was equivalent to a ticker tape parade. B. Fruitful branches.
1. The first work of the Father is to totally remove fruitless branches.
2. The second work of the Father, is to prune the fruit-bearing branches.
What exactly is this fruit God is expecting from us?
1. Christ-likeness
A. God is not looking for our happiness, but our wholeness (what we used to call "holiness")
B. Not busyness but beauty
C. Not sadness but serenity.

Five Minutes After Death
Scripture:
Luke 16:19-31
Notes:
Now the only thing these two men had in common was the fact that God made both of them.
Prov. 22:2
I. They Were Divided By Decision
God does not put a premium on poverty nor does He put a penalty on plenty. It is no vice to be rich and it is no virtue to be poor.
God does not want anything you have - God wants everything you are.
II. They Were Divided By Death
The beggar died and was ''carried'' but when the rich man died he was ''buried''.
III. They Were Divided By Destiny
1. A Place of Unbearable Pain
2. A Place of Unsatisfied Passion
You will be consumed by the desire to escape the torment.
3. A Place of Unanswered Prayer
In Heaven prayer is not needed, in Hell prayer is not heeded.
Salvation will never be found in a miracle, it will be found in a message, the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
4. A Place of Unending Pity.
A highway from Earth to Heaven. It's the way of the Cross that leads home.
There is a highway from Earth to Hell. Jesus called it the broad way.
But there is no highway which runs from Hell to Heaven. “It’s appointed unto man once to die, and after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27)

The Dishonest But Clever Steward
Scripture:
Luke 16:1-13
Notes:
I. A Corrupt Steward
A. A Sacred Responsibility
We are stewards of everything and owners of nothing.
B. A Solemn Accountability
One day you, too, will undergo a spiritual audit of your life.
II. A Clever Strategy
He made these debtors happy, and forced the manager to be honest.
III. A Confirming Statement
The master did not commend the steward so much for what he did, but for why he did it.
"He is no fool who gives that which he cannot keep, in order to gain that which he cannot lose."
IV. A Clear Statement
A. The Ministry Of Money
B. The Majesty Of Money
You see, money in and of itself is a little thing. But the way you secure it and the way you save it and the way you spend it reveals big things about you.
Remember three things about money.
1. Money is a teacher.
2. Money is a thermometer.
3. Money is also a tempter.
C. The Mastery Of Money
This is not a matter of advisability. Jesus did not say you should not serve two masters.
It is not even a matter of accountability. Jesus did not say you must not serve two masters.
This is a matter of impossibility. You cannot serve two masters

Having Faith In A Faithful God
Scripture:
Psalm 23
Notes:
Two Questions to think through...
- What is Faith?
- How Can I Grow My Faith?
“Psalm 23 isn’t simply a Psalm for funerals, but a Psalm
for everyday life” - Christopher J.H. Wright
- Faith IS NOT blind optimism
- Faith is unwavering trust in the person, character, and work of Jesus Christ.
How can we grow our faith in God?
1) Put your trust in the good Shepherd.
Are you going to give Jesus your hand and let him lead you?
2) Know that God is with you.
Is simply having Jesus enough for you?
3) Come to the table.
Forever starts now.
Why should we put our unwavering trust in a
faithful God?
We are continuing the legacy of faith in a faithful God.
Take Home Questions
**- What had the biggest impact on you from this morning’s service?
The music? Communion? The message?**
- What has been the biggest challenge keeping you from
putting your unwavering trust in God?
- Read Psalm 23. Which verse sticks out to you the most?
Why?
- Who is someone close to you that you can share your
faith in Jesus with?

Scripture:
Luke 15
Notes:
Now Jesus is answering the question why He keeps company with publicans and sinners.
Jesus in this parable gives a picture of the sinfulness of man.
1. The Weakness Of Man Without God.
A. A sheep is dumb
B. A sheep is dependent.
C. A sheep is defenseless.
2. The Worthlessness Of Man Without God.
A coin is meant to be spent, it is meant to be treasured, it is meant to be valued but not to be lost.
3. The Wretchedness Of Man Without God.
A. There is depression
B. There is degradation
He had been a son in the father's house, now he's a slave in the far country.
C. There is a dissatisfaction
Jesus in this parable gives a picture of the saving nature of God.
There were three who were in the business of restoring and bringing back.
1. The seeking shepherd represents God, the Lord Jesus.
It is His nature to rescue lost sinners
2. That weeping woman who went after the lost coin. She is a picture of God, the Holy Spirit.
It's the nature of the Spirit to reveal
3. That faithful father receiving the lost son is a picture of God the Father.

Scripture:
Luke 14:25-35;
Matthew 10:37;
Mark 10:29-30.
Notes:
Sacrifice involves four key actions.
I. There Is A Decision That Must Be Determined. The same Jesus, who tells us to love our enemies, would certainly not turn around and tell us to hate our families.
II. There Is A Price That Must Be Paid. If you're not willing to die to yourself, to your ambitions, your goals, your desires, and surrender your life totally to Him you cannot be His disciple.
III. There Is A Cost That Must Be Counted. The Christian life is like a strong tower. It is to be a tower of work a tower of worship, a tower of witness, and a tower of warfare. IV. There Is A Reward That Will Be Reaped

The Torn Curtain
What the Cross Meant to the Temple
Scripture:
Matthew 27:47-54; Hebrews 10:19-20; John 6:37.
Notes:
Two Houses Of Worship:
1. A portable house, the Tabernacle
2. A permanent house, the Temple
For New Testament believers, our symbol is the cross. But for those Old Testament believers their symbol was a curtain.
A Barrier Removed:
Everything about the Jewish temple reminded people to stay away.
The Holy of Holies. The very center of Jewish worship took place in that small area.
Only God could tear apart a curtain like that.
A Road Opened:
The curtain which said, “Stay out” was replaced by Christ who says, “Come in!”

What the Cross Means to the World
Scripture:
1 Corinthians 1:18-25
Notes:
The Sign:
Buddhist it is the lotus flower.
Judaism has the Star of David
Islam the crescent
Communists were known for the hammer and the sickle
Nazis for the swastika
Democrats have the donkey
Republicans the elephant.
By the time of Emperor Constantine, the cross had become well-established as “the sign” of the Christian faith.
To the world the cross is a symbol of shame; to those who believe it is a symbol of salvation.
I. The World is Offended by the Cross.
Some people have called Christianity a “slaughterhouse religion.”
II. The World is Judged by the Cross.
The cross strikes at the heart of human pride.
One thief saved – that none would despair.
One thief lost – that none would presume.
III. The World is Saved by the Cross.
It meant lifting up the symbol of the very thing that was killing them.

What the Cross Means to the Church
Scripture:
Galatians 6:14
Notes:
Acts 20:28. Paul lays out the responsibilities of a church’s elders:
(1) constant self-examination
(2) congregational leading (overseeing)
(3) consistent feeding of God’s people
· The greatest Teacher to ever teach?
· The greatest Leader to ever lead?
· The greatest Healer to ever heal?
· The greatest Man to ever live?
Jesus wants His churches to remember Him for His cross, His shed blood, His broken body, His sacrificial death.
The cross is the heart of the gospel and the gospel is the reason for our existence.
The cross is essentially a confrontation with sin.
We must lift up the cross because it is the only message we have.

Scripture:

Hebrews 4:15; Isaiah 53:12; Philippians 3:9
Notes:
This is one of the most magnificent verses in the Bible.
The church has been given one major task–to preach the gospel to every person on earth (Mark 16:15).
A sinner could not pay for the sins of another sinner.
He is the only one about whom it can be truly said that He never sinned in word, in thought or in deed.
His Sacrifice: He became sin for us.
His Gift: We might become the righteousness of God.

Scripture:

Psalm 5:4-5; 37:13, 20; 101:7; 119:119;
Isaiah 54; Jeremiah 16:19; Zechariah 2:11;
Notes:
What happened on the cross from God’s point of view?
How can I know God, how can I be forgiven by God, how can I be right with God?
If God did not punish sin – He would cease to be God.
The cross reveals God's consistency.
In the Old Testament, everyone looked forward to the cross of Christ.
In the New Testament, everyone looked back to the cross of Christ.
Putting Jesus Christ on the cross to pay the penalty for sin ought to show you how serious God is about His Law.

How Many Will Be Saved?
Scripture:
Luke 13:22-29
Notes:
How many will be saved? I can think of only four ways to answer the question raised in the title of this sermon:
# 1 is probably the most popular. People don’t want to believe that God would send anyone to hell.
# 2 is saying because there is no God, there can be no heaven, no hell, and thus no salvation for anyone.
# 3 is certainly correct in terms of what the Bible teaches. The most popular verse in the Bible, John 3:16, points to the two destinations, when it declares that those who believe “will not perish but have everlasting life.” So there you have it:
# 4 is the correct answer in terms of you or I answering that question. We personally, have no idea. In our text this morning, Jesus actually discusses this question.
Four Important Truths:
What Does All Of This Mean for Us Today?
Someone has said, there will be three surprises when we get to heaven:
First, we will be surprised that some people are there who we never expected to see in heaven.
Second, we will be surprised that some people are not there who we expected to see in heaven.
Third, the greatest surprise will be that we ourselves are there.

Bent Out Shape
Scripture:
Luke 13:10-17
Notes:
The woman before us here, "whom Satan had bound," and whom Christ set at liberty, is a perfect example of how a sin-bound soul may enter into the freedom of God. She was:
This is a physical illustration of a spiritual disease. It is always Satan's business, wherever he can, to bow down the souls of men to the earth. They are so bound together by the love of the world that they cannot lift their faces to Heaven.**

Baby Sunday
Scripture:
Luke 1
Genesis
Exodus
Galatians 3:26-29
Notes:
We can trust that God has a plan for his children.
What will my child/children become?
God keeps his promises even when his timing is different than what we think it should be.
Peace with our children and as a family, although difficult, can be achieved
God has given each of our children different abilities and skills. God can use our children to do great things.
He can use both our protective instincts and the things we don’t have control of to shape our kids character and actions.
God can help our children overcome and learn from our mistakes. He can lead them to become amazing people.
God will call our children to be more than we have planned for them to be. He can do impossible things.
God’s grace is enough to covers our imperfect parenting.
Trust that God has a plan for his children.
Extra to read and reflect on:
The book of Genesis
Galatians 3:26-4:7
Take the sermon home with you:
Discuss with your family when its hard for you to trust God.
Parents share a time in your life when your plans didn’t work out but God’s plans did. What did you learn from that experience?
Reach out to another family this week and ask how you can pray for them. Remind them that they can always trust God for all things.

**Matthew 22:36-38, Luke 6:38, Luke 16:10, Jeremiah 17:5-6, Jeremiah 17:7-8,
Genesis 7:5, Genesis 22:12, Joshua 5:1, 1 Samuel 17:37-39, Malachi 3: 10-12**
Notes:
“The man of pseudo-faith will fight for his verbal creed but refuse flatly to allow himself to get into a predicament where his future must depend upon that creed being true. He always provides himself with secondary ways of escape so he will have a way out if the roof caves in. What we need very badly these days is a company of Christians who are prepared to trust God as completely now as they know that they must do at the last day.”
– A. W. Tozer
Review:
T ake an Inventory.
R ecognize God as Your Source.
U nderstand God’s Principles
S urrender Everything To God.
T est God’s Promise.
Understand God’s Principles
1. The “Who’s in Charge” Principle
God is the owner – I am the manager.
2. The “Give and Grow” Principle
Practicing stewardship produces spiritual growth.
3. The “Do it Now” Principle
Stewardship deals with our present resources.
4. The “I’m in Debt” Principle
From the moment we are born…we are in debt.
5. The “Fountain of Youth” Principle
6. The “Who’s Number One” Principle.
God deserves the first of everything.
Matthew 22:36-38
7. The “Cheerful Attitude” Principle
Stewardship begins with loving, not giving.
We can give without loving, but we cannot love without giving.
Love asks how much can I give?
Legalism asks how little can I give?
8. The “Big Shovel” Principle.
You cannot outgive God. – Luke 6:38
9. The “River” Principle.
Our life is to be like a river, not a reservoir.
Five Outlets of Power
(1) Through our life - what we are
(2) Through our lips - what we say
(3) Through our ministry - what we do
(4) Through our money - what we give
(5) Through our prayer - what we claim in Jesus’ name.
We make a living by what we get, We make a life by what we give.
10. The “Who Has Who” Principle
Until God is in control of my life, I am out of control.
“Stewardship is more than the management of things – it’s the refusal to let things manage us.”
– James A. Lollis
Surrender Everything To God
“If I only had more…I would give more.”
How often we’ve all said that. St. Luke had something to say about such statements:
“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much”
– (Luke 16:10)
What did Luke mean?
“If you aren’t giving sacrificially with what you have now, you won’t give sacrificially when you have more.”
Why? Because there is a spiritual principle at work in our lives. That principle has shown time and again that it’s not how much we have of the world that dictates our generosity toward God, but how much God has of us.
The Independent Person
This is what the Lord says;
“Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the Lord. He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.”
– (Jeremiah 17:5-6)
The Dependent Person
“But blessed is the man who trust in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
– (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
Test God’s Promises
Bible Characters That Passed The Trust Test
1. Noah Genesis 7:5 (Building the Ark)
2. Abraham Genesis 22:12 (Sacrifice of Isaac)
3. Joshua Joshua 5:1 (Crossing the Jordan)
4. David 1 Samuel 17:37-39
Observations:
• Noah trusted in God, not the familiar.
• Abraham trusted in God, not personal feelings.
• Joshua trusted in God, not methods.
• David trusted in God, not man’s armor.
Promises God Gives His Children When We Tithe:
Malachi 3
1. He will provide for us. (v.10)
In the area that I obey; God blesses.
In the area that I disobey; God disciplines.
2. He will protect us. (v.11)
3. Our lives will be attractive to others. (v.12)

“Look deep into my heart, God, and find out everything I am thinking. Don't let me follow evil ways, but lead me in the way that time has proven true.” (Psalm 139:23,24)
Observations:
1. Only God knows everything about us.
2. Only God can lead me correctly.
3. Taking inventory and trusting God begins with me.
Proverbs 3:5-10
Recognize God As Your Source.
You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may confirm His covenant that He swore to your fathers, as at this day. Deuteronomy 8:18
Understand God’s Principles
Three reasons Christians don’t give more to God:
1. they don’t think that they can give and meet their own needs.
2. they do not know how to give.
3. they don’t plan to give.
Stewardship Principles That Make A Difference
1. the “who’s in charge” principle. (Psalm 24:1)
2. the “give and grow” principle.
Practicing Stewardship Enables People to…
1) We find our spiritual gift through practicing stewardship.
2) It increases our faith.
3) We become spiritually sensitive.
4) We become fruitful to God’s Kingdom.
5) We receive a blessing from God.
6) We are a blessing to others
7) we make a lasting contribution to God
3. the “do it now” principle.
Stewardship Deals with our Present Resources
4. the “I’m in debt” principle.
From the Moment We Are Born..We Are in Debt.
Our indebtedness is two-fold..
1. To God.
2. To the previous generation
5. the “fountain of youth” principle.

Can God Trust Me?
Scripture:

Notes:
Chapter 15: Wrong attitude about people
Chapter 16: Wrong attitude about wealth
The Bible and Money:
Jesus talked about money in 16 out of 38 parables.
1 out of 10 verses in the Gospels. There are 500 verses on prayer, less than 500 verses on faith, but over 2,000 verses on money and possessions.
1. The Accountability of the Foolish Steward
Reasons why I am accountable to God:
(1) He is the Owner
I am the manager
(2) The Owner has expectations of the manager.
Areas of Expectation:
A. Ourselves Romans 12:1
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.
B. Our possessions Luke 14:33
In the same way, any one of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple.
C. Our time Ephesians 5:15-17
Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are
evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
D. Our gifts or our abilities. 1 Peter 4:10
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.
E. The Gospel, the Good News. 1 Thessalonians 2:4
On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.
2. The Assessment of the Foolish Steward (v3)
3. The Action of the Foolish Steward. (vs 4-7)
Lessons Learned from the Story:
1. You and I Are To Use Our Opportunities Wisely. Vs8,9
Jesus commended the man for his wise use of opportunity.
2. Trust Must Be Earned vs 10-12
The Big Question: Why would the Master give me more if I misused what I have?
3. Trust Can Be Measured vs 10-12
God measures my trustworthiness by how I manage
What He has given me at this present time.
4. Be Totally Devoted To God v13
You cannot be the slave of two masters. You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one then to the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Stewardship Series # 1
TRUST - THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL LIVING
Scripture:
Proverbs 3:1-10
Notes:
The top two questions Christians ask:
1. "How can I know God’s will? "
2. "How can I be a success for God, others, and myself?”
Trust is the most important factor in...
Knowing God and His will for my life.
Growing His Kingdom and myself as a steward.
Proverbs 3:1-10 Observations:
1. The commands are all-inclusive.
2. The commands precede the promise.
3. The promises are conditional.
Stewardship Statements:
1. God is trustworthy. He is worthy of our complete confidence. He is totally dependable.
2. God has entrusted or placed within our care, the possessions, the opportunities, the talents, and time that we now experience.
3. We are a trustee of everything that God has given us.
Trustworthy Thoughts About God
1. God’s Care is Constant.
2. God’s Gifts are Generous.
Developing Our Trust:
1. Trusting in Adversity.
We are responsible to trust Him in times of adversity, but we are dependent upon the Holy Spirit to enable us to do so.
2. Trusting in Plenty.
The extent to which we genuinely thank God for
the blessings He provides is an indicator of our
trust in Him.
3. Trusting God as our Source.
Human tendency: Trust in God’s instruments of
Provision rather than in God Himself.
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, and they imagine it to be an unscalable wall." Proverbs 18:10-11

Away In A Manger
Scripture:
Luke 2:1-7; Genesis 3:15; 12:1-3; 49:10;
2 Samuel 7:1-17; Isaiah 7:14; Micah 5:2
Notes:
I. In The Census We See A Controlling Providence
Caesar Augustus was in control of the Roman Empire, but God was in control of Caesar Augustus.
The president has political power, the millionaire has financial power, the general has martial power, the scholar has intellectual power, but God has universal power!
II. In The City We See A Completed Prophecy
With God, prophecy is not a guess about what might happen, it is a declaration of what will happen.
III. In The Cradle We See A Confirmed Promise
“There was no room in Bethlehem, for Him who left His throne
to seek the lost at countless cost, and make their griefs His own:
but there was room at Calvary, upon a cross of shame
for Him to die, uplifted high, and bear the sinner's blame.
There was no room in Bethlehem, and in the world today
man will not give Him room to live, but bids Him turn away;
but there is room at Calvary, and there He stands to give
a home to all who heed His call, and look to Him and live.
There was no room in Bethlehem, for Christ, the Prince of heaven
come down to earth in human birth, that man might be forgiven:
but there is room at Calvary, for sinners to abide,
and all who come will find a home, in Jesus crucified.” 1

Songs of Christmas
O Holy Night
Scripture:
Philippians 2:5-11; John 5:18; 10:30; 14:9;
Hebrews 2:2; 2 Corinthians 4:5
Notes:
I. Christmas Is The Celebration Of A Son
Matthew and Luke looked at the birth of Jesus historically.
Paul looks at it theologically.
Jesus is not a man among men,
He is not first among equals,
He's not even the greatest of the great.
Jesus Christ is God.
II. Christmas Is The Humiliation Of A Savior
Jesus didn't die out of obligation; He died out of obedience.
Jesus Christ died an initial death
He died an official death
He died a judicial death
He died a sacrificial death
He died a criminal death
III. Christmas Is The Exaltation Of A Sovereign
Jesus was born as a man, so that He could relate to us; He died as a Savior so He could redeem us;
He was raised the Lord that He might rule over us.
Accept His Lordship – to bow the knee is a sign of surrender.
Acknowledge His Lordship – every tongue is going to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Acclaim His Lordship – the way glory ultimately is going to be brought to God is when we publicly and enthusiastically praise Jesus Christ as Lord.

O Little Town of Bethlehem
Scripture:
Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:5-6; John 1:1,14;
Colossians 1:15-17; Galatians 4:4; John 6:54-58
Notes:
Bethlehem is where He was born,
Nazareth is where He lived,
Jerusalem is where He died.
When you think of Bethlehem, you think of the cradle.
When you think of Nazareth, you think of the carpenter.
When you think of Jerusalem, you think of the cross.
I. A Town Of Fulfilled Prophecy
A) The identity of the Messiah
B) The divinity of the Messiah
C) The humanity of the Messiah
D) The activity of the Messiah
II. A Town Of Familiar History
A) A history of a divine preparation
B) A history of a divine presence
C) A history of a divine praise
This praise was in three parts:
1) There was the proclamation of the angel. (2:10-11)
2) There was the celebration of the choir: (2:13-14)
3) There was the adoration of the shepherds: (2:15-18)
III. A Town Of Fabulous Mystery
Bethlehem, which means ''house of bread'' and Ephrathah, which means ''the fruit fields'' or ''fruitfulness.''
Bethlehem refers to the body of Jesus,
Ephrathah refers to the blood of Jesus.
Jesus gave His body to be the bread of life, and He shed His blood to be the price of salvation.

Joy To The World
Scripture:
Luke 2:8-12; Isaiah 43:11; 49:26;
Matthew 1:21;2 Corinthians 5:21
Notes:
Christmas truly is a time of joy to the world.
I. Christmas Is The Joy Of The Birth Of A Son
The shepherds were not to look for a king on a throne, nor an angel on a cloud, but a baby in a manger. They were not to go to a palace, nor to a mansion, but to a stable.
He came to be like us so that He might change us to be like Him.
II. Christmas Is The Joy Of The Blessing Of A Savior
In the Old Testament the Messiah is never called Savior.
Christmas is the coming of a Savior.
III. Christmas Is Joy Because Of The Beauty Of A Sovereign
Christmas is not about Santa, it's about a Savior.
It's not about gifts, it's about grace.

1 Peter 5:1-3; John 15:14-15; Matthew 25:23
Notes:
Key – “Waiter” = Person who is waiting
Three Characteristics of a Good Waiter (35-36)
(1) Preparation—“be dressed ready … ”
(2) Maintenance—“keep your lamps burning”
(3) Expectation—“like men waiting for their master”
1. be dressed ready
2. keep your lamps burning.
3. people are expectantly waiting
A Promised Blessing (37-38)
1. Serving is an honorable task.
2. Leading is not a contradiction to serving, but a form of serving.
3. Jesus’ “servants” will no longer be servants, but “friends.”
Words of Warning (39-40)
The master/servant – an encouragement
The owner/thief – a warning
What determines whether Jesus is a “welcome Master” or a “dreaded thief”?

2. They love being highly thought of.

2. Pharisees do not understand the true nature of holiness.
3. Pharisees major on minors and neglect the major issues. Verse 42.
4. Pharisees love reputation rather than real holiness. Verse 43.
5. Pharisees appear holy on the outside but they are not on the inside. Verse 44.
6. Lawyers place religious demands on the people but don’t help them to live. Verses 45-46.
7. Pharisees pay lip service to the Scripture but ignore it. Verses 47-51.
8. Lawyers actually make it harder for people to believe and understand God’s word. Verses 52.
1. You are no better or worse than any other person.
2. It’s Jesus we measure ourselves against.

Something Greater Is Here
Scripture:
Luke 11:29-32
Notes:
Luke 12:1 - The crowds were just massive and growing larger as the days went on. But it had no meaning.
Sin is now:
• Paraded right down main street,
• Promoted in our libraries,
• Publicized on our media devices,
• Propagated in our schools.
They were blaming Jesus for their conclusion.
Verse 29 – Grace.
Verse 30 – The last sign.
Verse 31 – The greatest wisdom is right in front of you!
Verse 32 – A greater than Jonah is here!
Why is the Resurrection the Ultimate Sign?
1. The resurrection signaled the defeat of death and sin.
2. The resurrection served as validation for Jesus as the Son of God.
3. The resurrection secures a power for living that is a present reality.
4. The resurrection seals the future of those who trust in Christ.

The Myth of Self-Improvement
Scripture:
Luke 11:24-28; Luke 18:9-14
Notes:
Morality by itself is in many ways more dangerous than immorality.
1. Morality creates an illusion of safety when in fact the person who is moral may be in the greatest danger of all.
2. The main character in this parable is an unclean spirit.
3. Demons go in and out of men and seem to be more at home in them than out of them.
4. The problem in the moral person's heart is it's unoccupied.

God’s Final Call
Scripture:
Luke 11:14-24
Notes:
Well, who was Beelzebub?
The Phoenicians worshiped the god of filth.
1. They Sinned Against Redemption
2. They Sinned Against Reason.
3. They Sinned Against Revelation.
There’s a line that is drawn by rejecting the Lord,
Where the call of His Spirit is lost,
And you hurry along with the pleasure-mad throng—
Have you counted, have you counted the cost?
Chorus
Have you counted the cost if your soul should be lost,
Though you gain the whole world for your own?
Even now it may be that the line you have crossed—
Have you counted, have you counted the cost?
You may barter your hope of eternity’s morn
For a moment of joy at the most,
For the glitter of sin and the things it will win—
Have you counted, have you counted the cost?
[Chorus]
While the door of His mercy is open to you,
Ere the depth of His love you exhaust,
Won’t you come and be healed, won’t you whisper, “I yield—
I have counted, I have counted the cost.”

1. We Must Pray.
The gospel of Luke is a book of prayer.
We pray in secret, but there's no secret when we pray.
2. We Must Pray In God's Will.
3. Pray Big Prayers.
We’re coming to the King, so bring your big petitions because our God is a great God!

4. Pray Specific Prayers
A. a lack of knowledge as to what God's will is
B. a lack of faith.

First Things First
Scripture:
Luke 10:38-40
Notes:
I. Martha’s Mission 38-40
“I Don’t Mean to Interrupt But …”
If someone says, “I don’t mean to interrupt you but …,” what they really mean is, “I’m going to interrupt you.” If they say, “I don’t mean to contradict you …,” that’s exactly what they intend to do. And if they say, “I’m not saying you’re a jerk,” that’s exactly what they are calling you.
When Martha says, “Lord, don’t you care?” she really means to say, “Lord, you don’t care at all.
1. She was distracted.
She had substituted busyness for blessing.
2. She was distressed.
She was so consumed with the temporal she had forgotten the eternal.
3. She was distraught.
She had allowed what was urgent to the world to crowd out of her life what was important to the Lord.
II. Mary’s Position 39
Sitting—Quietness
At the Lord’s Feet—Closeness
Listening—Attention
To his Word—Submission
III. Jesus’ Admonition Verses 41-42
1. The Principle Of Decision.
2. The Principle Of Discrimination.
3. The Principle Of Duration.
Not by Accident
You must choose to go there or it will never happen.

Like A Good Neighbor
Scripture:
Luke 10:25-37
Notes:
Now Jesus introduces in His story three characters:
* The thieves,
* The priest and the Levite,
* The Good Samaritan.
I. Lust: What Is Yours Is Mine - I Will Take It
If your attitude is:
A. ''What's in it for me?'' you're probably a thief.
B. ''I want my needs met. I don't care about others,'' you're probably a thief.
C. ''I want it my way, and I don't care what happens to others,'' you're probably a thief.
D. ''Just make sure I get mine. I don't care about anyone else,'' you're probably a thief.
II. Legalism: What Is Mine Is Mine - I will Keep It
The priest represented the man in the pulpit;
The Levite represented the man in the pew.
The law can describe us, the law can condemn us, but the law cannot save us.
III. Love: What Is Mine Is Yours - I will Give It
The question is not ''Who is my neighbor?''
The question is: ''Am I a good neighbor?''
A neighbor is a ''needer.''
You see what made this Samaritan so special was not the color of his skin, but the compassion in his heart. No law could make the priest or the Levite stop, but love could make the Samaritan stop.

Scripture:

2 Corinthians 5:8; 1 John 3:2; 2 Corinthians 4:17; Romans 8:17; Hebrews 11:13.
Notes:
#1 They’re to team up with someone.
#2 They’re to pray for more laborers to join them.
#3 They’re to labor and share the Gospel with those they come in contact with.
#4 And they’re to have an urgency with the mission.
This is the only passage in the Gospels where we’re told Jesus rejoices in something.
1. There is the great joy of God’s victory over Satan.
It’s a thrill to serve Jesus.
Happiness may be self-centered; joy is always God-centered.
a. We have joy because demons are no match for Jesus.
b. We have joy because we have protection.
2. There is the greater joy of eternal life.
3. There is the greatest joy of Divine Fellowship.
4. There is joy in what He has revealed to us.
a. God has revealed His truth to humble, unsophisticated children.
“little children.” The word is literally infants.
b. God revealed truth to them never revealed to Old Testament saints.
We have great joy that we’re part of God’s victory over Satan.
We have a greater joy of eternal life
And our greatest joy is our salvation.

The Harvest Is Plentiful
Scripture:
Luke 10:1-16
Notes:
How To Be Laborers For The Harvest.
1. Team: Do you serve with others? Verse 1.
There is encouragement in doing the work together. There is confidence in teaching together.
We learn from each other when we work together.
2. Prayer: Do you pray for the harvest? Verse 2.
3. Mission: Do you labor in God’s harvest field? Verses 3-9.
Three Warnings
1. We must be aware of the danger.
2. We must be focused.
C.T. Studd, the great missionary statesman said, “Some want to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell.”
When William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army, signed the guest book for King Edward the 7th he summed up his life’s work. “Your Majesty” he wrote “Some men’s ambition is art. Some men’s ambition is fame. Some men’s ambition is gold. My ambition is the souls of men.”
3. We must be dependent.
Put Our Trust In God.
4. Message: Do you proclaim the kingdom of God by your life and lips? Verse 9.
Are you talking about the Gospel to people?
5. Urgency: Do you live and share the Gospel in light of eternity? Verses 10-16.
Do we really, sincerely believe that a person without Jesus Christ as their Savior is going to spend eternity in hell?
A. First of all pray – be sure and talk to God before you talk to anyone.
B. Then start with your least scary prospect and just begin a conversation.
C. Be mindful and intentional about potential prospects around you. Places that you frequent where you see the same people over and over again. When I say be intentional – I’m talking about trying to form a friendship that will open a door to speak to them about Jesus.

Notes:
Four Figures That Are Taken From The Life Of A Shepherd.
1. Jesus is the True Shepherd. Verses 1-5.
The Marks Of The True Shepherd
1. Proper Entrance To A Sheepfold.
▪ They had foretold where He would be born.
▪ whom He would be born to.
▪ the unusual character of His birth.
▪ how He would appear to the nation.
▪ how He would be introduced.
▪ where He would live.
▪ what He would say.
▪ what He would do when He came.
2. The Gatekeeper Opens The Door.
3. He Calls His Own Sheep By Name.
4. He Goes Before Them.
2. Jesus Is The "Door" Of The Sheep.
3. He Is The Good Shepherd.
1. Every other religion teaches us to earn our way to God. The Bible tells us that God came to us.
2. Other religions have systems of rules to appease their god. Christianity is a relationship with God. We don’t have to appease God to receive His favor. He already showed us His love for us by sending Jesus to die on a cross in our place, for our sins.
3. No other religion has an empty tomb. We’re the only people who follow a leader who died and came back to life.
4. He is the Great Shepherd.
1. He has "other sheep that are not of this fold."
2. He creates a division on earth

Verses 37-41
A person simply can’t claim son-ship with God and not have it influence his actions!
2. Hears and Understands the Words of His Father Verses 42-47
3. Honors Who the Father Sends Verses 42, 48-59
Verse 50 -He came to give God glory.
Verse 51 – Will not “see” the second death.

Forgiveness Scripture: Matthew 18:21-35 Psalm 103:12 Isaiah 38:17 Hebrews 8:12 Ephesians 4:32 Matthew 6:14-15
Notes:
Though Forgiveness Is Free, It Is Not Cheap. Verses 23-25. The entire tax on Galilee for one year was two hundred talents, so this man owed the equivalent of fifty years of taxes on the entire region of Galilee. To put it another way, the average working man would have to work twenty years in order to earn one talent. So, this man would have to work 200,000 years to have paid back all the money. Sin is a debt I cannot pay. Number one, He created you. Number two, He redeemed you. Number three, He takes care of you day by day.
Forgiveness Is Full and Not Partial. Verses 26-27
Forgiveness Must Be Final And Not Temporary We are to forgive freely. We are to forgive fully. We are to forgive finally.
Forgiveness Experienced Should Become Forgiveness Expressed. Verses 28-33 5. You Will Regret Refusing To Forgive Others Verse 34. If we don’t forgive, we will be chained in a prison of our own making. Bitterness is an acid that destroys it’s container. As long as you have an unforgiving spirit in your heart you cannot get the forgiveness of God.

How To Heal Broken Relationships
Scripture:
Matthew 18:15-22
Notes:
There are at least three ways to handle conflict and sin.
A. Peace-faking. A peace-faker avoids conflict at all cost.
B. Peace-breaking. These people function more like skunks.
C. Peace-making. Willing to candidly discuss conflict.
Four Pathways To Peace
1. A private meeting (verse 15).
Two important imperatives in this verse:
Go and Show.
This first step is to be “between you and him alone.”
1. Avoids shame for the person.
2. Minimizes misunderstandings.
3. Keeps you from hating the person.
4. The other person may not know they’ve offended you.
5. Limits gossip.
Matthew 18:15 - I must go quietly.
Ephesians 4:26 - I must do it quickly
Matthew 7:5 – I must do it carefully
2. A private conference with witnesses (verse 16).
Some Other Benefits To Having A Witness Or Two
A. They can establish the facts
B. They can observe
C. May communicate the gravity of the situation
D. They can keep things from escalating.
E. Witnesses can remember and record what was said.
3. A public announcement to the church (verse 17a).
Here are some reasons why we need to pursue this step:
1. Vindicates God’s holiness
2. Purifies the church
3. Deters others from sinning
4. Conveys biblical love and a pathway for restoration
4. Public exclusion from the church (17b).
1. The promise of His power.
2. The promise of His presence.
Let’s Consider These Questions
1. Am I treating the other person I’m in conflict with as someone God loves?
2. Is my goal reconciliation or retaliation?
3. How’s my attitude?
4. How willing am I to obey?

Radical Obedience
Scripture:
| Mark 9:43-50 | Hebrews 3:13 | Revelation 14:11 | | Matthew 23:25 | Hebrews 10:24-25 | Luke 16:24-25 | | Proverbs 26:20 | Luke 16:19-31 | Matthew 13:42 | | 1 Timothy 5:2 | Matthew 25:41 | 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 | | Ephesians 6:4 | Revelation 14:10 | | | Timothy 1:3-4 | Luke 16:23 | |
Notes:
1. Avoid Causing A Follower Of Christ To Sin
9 ways that we can cause a Christ-follower to slide into sin…
• By not practicing what we preach. Matthew 23:25:
• By gossiping about someone. Proverbs 26:20:
• By directly tempting someone to sin. Asking someone to lie for you would be an example.
• By involvement in sexual immorality. This causes you to sin and leads someone else to sin as well. If you’re a Christian, you’re called to treat your boyfriend or girlfriend with purity. 1 Timothy 5:2.
• By using substances like alcohol or drugs you could be sending the message that it’s OK for others to do the same.
• By treating others unkindly and wrongly we can cause rebellion or outbursts of anger. Ephesians 6:4:
• By teaching false doctrine we can lead people astray. 1 Timothy 1:3-4:
• By not encouraging and equipping believers. I’ve always been challenged by Hebrews 3:13
• By not gathering with God’s people according to Hebrews 10:24-25:
2. Cut Off Anything That Causes You To Sin.
Here are eight things we know about hell.
• Hell is an actual place (Luke 16:19-31).
• Hell is a place of eternal punishment and judgment (Matthew 25:41).
• Hell is a place of divine wrath (Revelation 14:10)
• Hell is a place of terrible torment (Luke 16:23)
• Hell is filled with misery and pain (Revelation 14:11)
• Hell is a place of unquenchable thirst (Luke 16:24-25)
• Hell is a place of weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:42)
• Hell is where eternal separation happens (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9)
3. Live out the cause of Christ.
Jesus does not say that every man will salted with salt, but “with fire.”
Life is short
Death is sure
Hell is hot
Jesus saves

The Road To Greatness
Scripture:
Mark 9:33-37
Matthew 18:1-7
Luke 9:46-48
Notes:
HE CAME TO CAPERNAUM. Matthew 11:23.
HE ASKED THEM.
THEY HELD THEIR PEACE.
THEY HAD DISPUTED AMONG THEMSELVES.
THE SECRET TO BEING “FIRST”
A DEMONSTRATION OF GREATNESS.
Mark 9:35-36.
It is not who the child was that is of importance, but what Jesus said of the occasion.
First of all, we see that caring for a child for the child's sake is not sufficient in honoring God.
And, secondly, our motivation for serving children must be connected to a desire to be in fellowship with Christ.
“Make me, O Lord, a child again
So tender, frail and small
In self possessing nothing
In Thee possessing all
O Savior, make me small once more, that downward I may grow
And in this heart of mine restore
The faith of long ago
With Thee may I be crucified
No longer I that live
O Savior, crush my sinful pride
By grace which pardon gives
Make me, O Lord, a child again
Obedient to Thy call
In self possessing nothing
In Thee possessing all.”
