While interviewing Glen, I discovered more about my client, Michael, by hearing stories from his childhood. Glen and Michael met at the school for the blind in their community and became fast friends. They remain friends to this day.  I especially enjoyed the segment about how they used to ride bicycles together and used the sounds of the street to navigate where they were and what obstacles they had in front of them.

Listen to this fascinating story.

If you'd like to help Michael with his personal development business, please visit ShoutYourCause.com/give where we are collecting funds to be able to hire out the work that needs to be done to get his digital marketing and advertising materials pulled together.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

This week we’re talking about setting up your social media profiles for success. Today’s chosen platform is Facebook.

Your Facebook business page has a plethora of options to optimize. One feature is to create your unique username, which will change the URL of your business page to facebook.com/username.

Another feature is to choose the menu items that you show and the order in which they are displayed. If you do a lot of video marketing, then put those videos up front with branded thumbnails.

Fill in the section called Our Story with keyword rich descriptions, as this portion of your page can be found on Google searches.

Add a nice looking cover photo or cover video and fill in the Call to Action button below the cover to send people to your website or to a landing page to get a free resource.

Another popular place that people look is at the reviews and recommendations. When clients are happy with your work, send them the link to your page review section to recommend your business.

And last but not least, add a chat bot to your messenger button that lets people know you’ll be there to respond soon or to direct them to your most popular resources.

If you’d like to learn more about monetizing your social media for business, visit socialmediatrafficschool.com to sign up for our $1 resource library. You’ll find information on how to set up your website for a smooth customer journey, how to monetize your blog, info on live streaming and webinars, hashtag research, and tons of details on email marketing planning.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

This week we’re talking about setting up your social media profiles for success. Today’s chosen platform is Instagram.

Instagram is all about visual storytelling with amazing graphics, images, and videos. You want to catch someone’s eye as they’re scrolling through. If someone is intrigued enough to follow you, it’s important to have your profile ready to go in case they want to click over to your website to find out more.

Have a call to action front and center with a link to click on. If possible, make that link unique to Instagram, so you know where your traffic is coming from. This will help you analyze where you should be spending your time on social media.

Hashtags on Instagram are important, too. Creating a hashtag formula that matches up with your brand, your ideal clients, and common interests between you can help you get noticed more easily by the right people.

If you’d like to learn more about how to concoct your own branding formula with hashtags, sign up for my digital marketing resource library. Inside is a full course on how to research the perfect hashtags for your brand. Visit socialmediatrafficschool.com today.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

This week we’re talking about setting up your social media profiles for success. Today’s chosen platform is LinkedIn.

First of all if you own your own business, you should have a personal profile and a business profile separately. That way when you say you work for your business, you’ll be able to connect the two profiles and use your company logo as the profile image.

With LinkedIn, it’s important to fill out all the fields, make the About section in first person expressing how you help others.

Writing articles is important, too. This is similar to blogging. One thing I like to do is to get people to my website, so I introduce my blog post on LinkedIn and then include a link for people to read the rest on my blog. This is valuable because once someone reaches your website, you can track them and retarget them with Facebook advertising.

If you’re looking to connect with people in a certain industry, it helps to search online for 2nd connections, meaning that you are not directly connected with that person but you have a mutual connection that can introduce you or you can mention when you reach out to them.

Don’t be one of those annoying inbox fillers who says hello and immediately pitches their offers to you. Think about how you can start the conversation more politely without making assumptions that this person needs to work with you.

Stay tuned for more tips coming up this week. Visit us online at socialmediatrafficschool.com to check out our digital marketing resource library for only $1.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

Today we’re talking about how much traffic you need on your website to make a sale, and how much that costs in advertising.

Obviously, this changes for every advertiser, as no two businesses or sales funnels are exactly alike. First you want to know how much you’re spending per thousand impressions. That’s CPM in your reporting tool. If your ads are costing $10 CPM, that means it costs $10 to create 1,000 impressions of your ads.

Let’s say that those 1,000 impressions are generating 10 leads. That would mean that you’re spending $10 to get 10 leads, which is $1 per lead.

If you’re paying $1 per lead, and your ads budget is $1,000, then you’re generating 1,000 leads.

But what about sales?

As these 1,000 leads travel through your funnel, some people will start to drop off and not click any further on your webpages or open your emails, but many of those people will keep going and keep paying attention.

So you make an offer to these leads. Only a few people will actually click through to look at your sales page, and a few of those may purchase your offer. Let’s say that 50% or 500 actually see your sales page, and then let’s assume that 2% of those people will buy your offer. That would be 10 sales.

At this point, if you want to be profitable, the price of your offer must be more than $100 in order to make money. Let’s just say your offer costs $200. So $200 x 10 = $2,000. You spent $1,000 in ads, so your profit is $1,000. Not bad! You doubled your ad spend.

If you’re running your ads yourself, you’ve made a profit, but if someone else is running the ads for you, you could be losing money unless you decide to risk more advertising spend, assuming that you’ll make double what you put into the ads.

Let’s review:

Understand your CPM costs.

Find out how many leads you’re generating and the cost per lead.

Pay attention to how many of your leads actually visit your sales page.

Then know how many sales you make.

Compare your sales to your ad spend, and remove any expenses along the way.

If you’d like to understand your numbers, this is what we teach in our coaching program, among other things that you can do to optimize your websites and drive traffic to them to get paying customers. Visit us at socialmediatrafficschool.com to get started.

See you next time!

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

Today we’re talking about UTM codes. UTM codes are the extra jibberish that you see at the end of a link that idenitfy where your traffic is coming from. You want to use these in your social media, so that you know exact what people clicked on in order to reach your website.

For example, if you’d like to know how many people go to your website to opt-in for one of your free resources from your Instagram profile, then add UTM codes to the end of your link in your profile with keywords that indicate your Instagram profile.

If that same link is shared on LinkedIn in a post for people to come get your free resource, then use a different UTM code at the end of the same link that indicates it came from LinkedIn.

Doing this consistently on links to your website will help you understand what social media real estate is working for you. Then you’ll be able to understand where you should spend more time and effort, and maybe you’ll ditch something that’s not working, or come up with an alternative plan to test.

If you’d like to know more about how to monetize your business with social media, head over to socialmediatrafficschool.com to get our courses for just $1.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

Today we’re talking about content marketing to raise awareness about your brand.

There’s always a back story to why a brand was created. Most entrepreneurs have a life event that sparks an interest in creating a solution for what they experienced in life. If there’s not a particular event in their own story, they at least have seen the problems in the world, knew there was a solution, and wanted to create a business around solving those problems for people or for other businesses.

Because I work with a lot of personal brands, I help them come up with ideas on how to create content to raise awareness about who they are. This content helps them connect with others on a personal level, so they have a basis to build a relationship.

Some questions we typically start out with are:

  • Who are your inspirations in life? (Mine: Oprah, Ellen, my girls, my husband, my mom, my dad, my nannies.) (My husband would say Elon Musk, Charles Darwin, his pop, our family.)
  • What are some of your favorite quotes or favorite authors? (I love Mark Twain, Eudora Welty, Maya Angelou quotes.)
  • Where do you love to go on vacation or what do you do to relax/have fun?
  • What was your first job or a favorite job or volunteer thing you did in the past?
  • What is your most fun memory as a child?
  • Did you play sports or music growing up?
  • What music do you love?
  • Who were your heroes growing up?
  • What are your favorite TV shows or plays or movies?

We can take the answers to these questions and find common interests with other people who like to hear the stories behind why we chose these answers. It’s part of our personality, what makes us unique. Use this in your social media content, as it will attract others with similar interests, and that’s how you start relationships.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

Today we’re talking about sales funnels to help deepen relationships with people who have found you on social media or visited your website.

Sales funnels can appear to be complicated, and some of them are, but when it comes to getting started with them, it’s best to start simply.

For example, if your website has your business phone number displayed to call the person handling sales calls, you’re likely to get a lot of calls that do not turn into actual sales. That wastes time and money for your business. One thing you could consider doing is putting a booking calendar on your site to book a call with someone instead.

Now for some businesses, this is not ideal, as you may handle emergencies that require immediate attention, but for many businesses that are selling products, services, coaching, or consulting, it makes sense to have booking funnel. This shows your potential customer that you’re a real business with a busy schedule and your time should be respected.

There are many programs out there that can handle this for you, such as calendly or acuity. Regardless what program you use, make sure you can embed the booking calendar on your website, and ensure that you can put tracking in place to see if someone books an appointment or not. This may involve a redirected booking confirmation page on your website.

The reason you want tracking in place is because you can retarget advertising to people who visit your booking page but then do not actually confirm an appointment. This funneling process can be tracked at every step, which is what we teach our clients to do, or we can set it up for you.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

Today we’re talking about the misconception that corporations have about Facebook advertising.

This past week I met with a corporation that is considering using Facebook ads to reach their market, but they kept asking, “Can you reach my clients? We are B2B - business to business.”

The answer is “absolutely, we can”. You see, they already do a lot of marketing on LinkedIn, and it works well for them, but they’re missing the leverage that Facebook gives you to continue that conversation in more places than LinkedIn can reach. Plus, it’s been proven again and again that LInkedIn advertising costs 10 times more than FAcebook ads.

As far as B2B goes, all social media marketing is actually PERSON TO PERSON, so as long as you are reaching the right people in the organizations you’re trying to reach in your targeting selections, you absolutely can reach your clients with Facebook marketing.

Another misconception is that Facebook advertising is just another way to get your company name out there. Sure, it is. It’s great for brand awareness, but with Facebook, you can find out WHO is clicking on your ads and going deeper into your funnel. It’s anonymized, but you can then serve up additional advertising to further the conversation to a deeper level. That’s called funneling.

We’ll come back and talk more about sales funnels to continue this conversation.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

Today we are talking about content marketing.

If you want to be considered to be the right solution or on the leading edge in your industry, you must produce content on a regular basis that allows you to connect with your audience, to show your authority, and to convince you're the right one to do business with.

In today's digital marketing arena, this means blogging, posting on Facebook, producing articles and posts on LinkedIn, and having an email marketing strategy.

Posting and emailing randomly without a strategic and consistent plan is not worth very much in the news feeds of our social media. It is important to know what to do with followers and connections once they've engaged with your content to take your relationship to the next level or to finally close that deal you've been working on.

One of the things I like to stress is blogging. Some of the advantages to blogging are:

  • It gives you fresh content on your website that Google looks for when they are searching for relevant and recent answers to people’s questions that they are asking in the search bar
  • Promoting your blog consistently gives people assurance that you are going to be around for the long haul, which makes you more of a trustworthy resource.
  • Emailing your blog to your subscribers allows you to show up in front of them where they are every day. Even if they don’t open your email every time you send one out, just having your name pass by is effective in letting them know you’re still in business.
  • If you’re a podcaster, YouTuber, or you go live on Facebook, a great idea is to embed your episodes and videos into your blog posts, place a transcript below to add the word count that Google likes to see, and watch your channels grow!

If you’d like to learn more about blogging, grab my digital course bundle at socialmediatrafficschool.com. There’s a lesson and e-book inside the courses called Blogging to Get Found.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

To continue our conversation from yesterday, let’s talk some statistics between LinkedIn and Facebook.

Did you know that globally, there are over 2.38 billion monthly active users on Facebook?

And LinkedIn has 562 million members. This just goes to show that if you want expand on what you’re doing with LinkedIn, you really should consider Facebook as an option.

Here’s more:

1.56 billion active users log onto Facebook every single day.

The average Facebook user logs in 17 times per day.

With LinkedIn, 40% of members visit the professional social network each day.

But the average LinkedIn user spends only 17 minutes on the site per month.

That’s 17 times per day that people visit Facebook versus 17 minutes per month on LinkedIn.

Now why is this important? You may think, but Sally, my clients are corporate clients. They aren’t even allowed to use Facebook at work….but I say, oh yeah? Who is stopping them from looking at Facebook on their phones while they’re taking a break, having lunch, or scrolling the news feed at night or on the weekends?

When someone is away from work, they’re usually more relaxed, but if there’s a big deal you’re about to close at work, wouldn’t it be nice to slip into someone’s phone front and center when they least expect it? That’s what Facebook advertising does for you.

Facebook competes with Google AdSense and AdMob when it comes to advertising placements. Your ads will pop up right in the middle of a game of Solitaire, a stock app, a weather update, or in the middle of a Forbes article….and that’s effective for what we like to call “decision support”.

So what are you waiting for? If you think you’re ready for Facebook ads, head over to our sister site, CleanSlateAdvertising.com and take our free Facebook advertising assessment to if you’re ready to run some ads.

See you tomorrow!

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

Today I’d like to discuss LinkedIn versus Facebook. As I am diving more and more into projects helping corporations understand how to use Facebook effectively, I find there are a lot of misconceptions about Facebook. Larger companies tend to focus on LinkedIn and ignore Facebook, but that is a fatal flaw in their marketing strategies. Sure, it’s great to have connections on LinkedIn, to have a business presence, employee presence, published media, and even paid ads, but without a combined strategy that brings in Facebook to expand on this, companies may never see the return they truly desire.

For example, one of my clients is AMAZING at getting in front of people at industry events. He’s well connected on LinkedIn, which is great, as he has identified the key players he needs to know. But when it comes to trade shows and conferences where he is exhibiting, no one can draw the foot-traffic of the exact right people to his booth like he can.

And how does he do it? He uses Facebook advertising to tell his audience to come to his booth, to participate in a treasure hunt, to win prizes, or any number of things he’s come up with for that particular event. In fact, at nearly every event where he’s used Facebook ads to get more attention, people come up to him and say, “How did your ad end up on my phone telling me to come see you here in this booth today?”

He then sends them to me.

If you’d like to get some digital marketing know-how for your business, head over to socialmediatrafficschool.com, grab my online courses for $1, then step into my free classroom on Facebook. You may just learn a thing or two.

Hello and welcome to Social Media Traffic School with Sally Hendrick.

That’s me! I’m Sally from Nashville, Tennessee, and this is today’s update.

Facebook and Instagram have been testing out the NO LIKE factor. That means they’ve been removing the ability to see how many likes are on posts. This has only rolled out in a few countries for testing so far. Some believe the psychological effects of getting likes (or not getting likes) can be detrimental to mental health. Besides that, likes are just vanity measurements that mean nothing when it comes to measuring financial return for your business.

So what are some of the measurements you want to review? When it comes to Instagram, clicks on the link in your profile are important, as that means your profile has done its job of enticing the visitor to get further information, taking them off Instagram and into your business.

For Facebook, get into the Insights of your business page. You’ll find engagement stats, link clicks, video views, and much more. Dig into the exact posts that are the most popular. Does that content make sense to turn into an ad to send people to your website landing pages that drive them into your sales funnels?

One of the ways you can measure a social media platform effectively is to use UTM parameters from your Google Analytics on your links. UTM codes are all the extra jibberish at the end of your regular links that send messages back to Google to tell you that someone came from Instagram or wherever you put that super long link.

Don’t like the way that link looks? That’s okay! Just use a link shortener or a pretty link to make it safer looking to click on.

Want to learn more about digital marketing? Head over to socialmediatrafficschool.com and grab my educational course bundle for $1. It’s jam-packed with information to help you understand how to monetize your business using social media marketing.
