Hosted by the Music Affairs Collective, every episode is packed with up-to-date content from the Lower Mainland music communities including news, new music releases, event reviews and upcoming events, interviews with local musicians and industry professionals and discussions over relevant topics.
Tune in for some segments related to Black History Month! Including black feminine expression from both hip-hop/soul duo OSHUN and Grime artist Nadia Rose, on Earl Sweatshirt and his parents' story, and some local hip-hop in Stew Jams.

In this shorter episode of Word on the Street, Magalee gives her album analysis of Madgibbs' Piñata and the gang discusses sexual assault in music, with Denzel Curry's story as the focus.
It's a full booth for this one! Valie, Ines, Magalee and Finn do the weekly features of Word on the Street, including new member Magalee's piece on Latin music and female empowerment. Gabe is furious over his IGOR analysis being ripped off on YouTube. The gang briefly talks about a certain Canadian artist being boo'd off the stage at Flog Gnaw. Check it!
Each present Word on the Street members bring a song or two to the airwaves. Helena gives her take on HYUKOH's album, 24 : How to find true love and happiness. Jack gives a history lesson on the Oakland subgenre of Hip-hop, Hyphy.
It's that time of the month again: Jeopardy! with Word on the Street! In this instalment, check out Team Calgary vs. Team Vancouver. Who will take this one, the Cowboys or the Canucks? Categories include industry plants, movies about music, ripoffs and one-hit wonders.
In this episode, Valie hosts the Word on the Street with a very, very special introduction from Tyler, the Creator for collective leader Isaac. The gang talks about some of their experiences at his recent stop in Vancouver for his "IGOR" tour. Isaac makes his album analysis of the week a 2-in-1: Freddie Gibbs & Madlib's Piñata, and its sequel Bandana. Kirk and Sinéad offer some of there insights on climate change representation in music. To close this week off, Valie plays an interview she did recently with Victoria's very own, Bridal Party.
This episode is jam-packed with lots of things to talk about. Some of the gang gives their take on the recent Clairo show, followed by Gabe giving his hearty analysis of Tyer, the Creator's "IGOR." In this episode, Isaac hosts a discussion about the self-proclaimed boyband, BROCKHAMPTON. Valie, Helena, Jack and Finn all give their takes. Valie explains why she thinks Ginger is the best BH album, Helena speaks on what the SAT trilogy meant to her, Jack and Isaac mention the importance of Ameer's era and Finn gives an account of a long drive to see a show.
Isaac details some local events from Discorder + collabs and localsonly! Everyone on air talks about what their favourite genre is, and which artist made them feel that way about one particular type of music. Some of the genres include golden age hip-hop, nuu-metal and 15-17th Century classical! Tune in next week for a special game show.
Isaac reviews all of the interviews he did over the past four months while welcoming back WOTS members Gabe, Valie, Sinéad and Helena. Gabe details his musical escapes up in Terrace over the Summer, and Sinéad reminisces about festivals in Québec and London.
Isaac hosts an interview with Vancouver artist Kevin Hackett. Kevin discusses his debut album "YOUTH" in detail. The rapper explains the four years in the making, several song titles, his collaborators and his catalogue of visual work.
In this episode, Isaac and Kalev interview punk experimentalist Debby Friday, on a Friday. Debby talks about her new project DEATH DRIVE, being on the label Deathbomb Arc, touring in Europe, her libido-thanatos themes and much more! In this episode, Isaac hosts a discussion with designer Alex Zastre, and interviewer KidsTakeOver (KTO). The three, as well as co-host Helena, talk about the Vancouver hip-hop scene, what makes an interesting interview, how hip-hop and fashion are so intertwined and more!
In this very special episode, Isaac and Zubin premier an interview with legendary hip-hop producer Just Blaze. The co-host pair ask Just Blaze about keeping up with his image, his background in computer science, sleeping 20 minutes a night early on in his career and working with Kanye. Following the interview, Isaac, Zubin and Kalev discuss Just Blaze's cadence.
In this episode, all of the big boys are in the booth. Andrew. Honda. Stone. Euro. Isaac hosts a discussion on some "rap commandments," and whether they should be accepted, rejected or modified. Some of the commandments include elements of rhythm, rhyme, clarity and dexterity. At the end, the MCs jump on a couple beats to cipher on together!
In this episode, Isaac and Helena host an interview local R&B singer Bella Roces, with her mother and brother at her side. Bella talks about her experiences so far as a young artist, her family support system, her creative process and more. She also makes some thoughtful commentary on her own ingenuity when it comes to social media and her musical content. Shoutout to Steves Cyclones for this one!
In this episode, Stonecold Finger comes back for another quick interview. He talks about his creative process and persona. The gang also debates who the most influential rapper of the past decade is -- is it Weezy, Thugger, Kanye, or someone else? Gabe wraps up this session with a brief history lesson of how "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is a stolen song. Hosted by Isaac, with contributions from Gabe, Helena, Reuben and Em.
In this episode, Kalev takes the lead in interviewing Vancouver artist Crimsinluvv. The two discuss musical identity, mental health including "the 73 percent" and music's healing power, commitment to one's art through tattoos, the dynamic of a music group and more. Isaac co-hosts on the quieter side this time.
This week WOTS welcomes rapper Stonecold Finger to the program for an interview. Some featured questions include the topics of hand sanitizer, on Namibia, storytelling and freestyling. This discussion is hosted by Isaac, with contributions from Kalev, Helena and Gabe.
Isaac interviews local producer-rapper Honda Carter about a year after their first conversation on the air. They talk about the contemporary reality of being an artist with social media and streaming, paying homage to influences and labels vs. independence.
The gang focuses on two topics in this conversation: artist interaction with fans, and big data. The relevance of online interaction via livestreams, comments and more is discussed in relation to how much music is regulated with services like Spotify. We welcome special guest Andrew Mulat to discuss the ever-changing identity in Hip Hop and how streaming has changed the landscape of how artists view their financial decisions.

This week's topics are "emotional songs" (since it was just Valentine's Day) and misunderstood/misrepresented songs. Zubin hosts, with members Gabe, Bryna, Ava and Jack pitching in, with a special call from regular host Isaac all the way from New York!

Friend of the show Aidan Sullivan Sandy, a.k.a. Chuck Francis, makes his return to Word on the Street as he is interviewed by host, Isaac. Isaac plays a variety of tracks from artists such as August Kuper, Down With Webster and George Jackson, with another appearance from Val as a guest co-host. He also talks about how both Eminem and Kendrick Lamar were discovered because of similar individuals in the music industry. Word On The Street will return for new episodes starting August 10th.
Isaac interviews Richmond-based rapper MA$$ANK; she discusses her origins from the Philippines, why music is valuable to her and her greatest influences - including the late XXXTentacion.
Isaac hosts as him and Zubin catch-up on music that has been released recently, with another appearance from Aileen as well. The three talk about new albums, Kanye's recent work and upcoming records they're excited for.
Following a week off, Word on the Street returns with special guest and singer, wu-hoo (Aileen Wu). Isaac hosts again as DJ and interviewer, with a return from long time collective member, Zubin. For the first 40 minutes, he interviews Aileen about her music, including Vancouver compared to New York, development as an artist, music as an important feature as an actor and more. Wu performs two of her own songs live, as she also covers Chance the Rapper's "Sunday Candy" and JOBA's verse of BROCKHAMPTON's "FACE."
Nardwuar introduces host of Word on the Street, Isaac, as well as special guest, Honda Carter. In this session, Isaac interviews rapper Honda for the majority of the hour. Carter discusses his upbringing with music, working with Jay Worthy, labels expressing interest in his work and debuts a previously unreleased track, "MOVE IT." Honda Carter will return to the show later in the Summer as an affiliate of the August Kuper collective.
In this episode, Lil Bean and his frequent collaborator C Buddy come onto the program for a brief interview with Isaac. Bean discusses what's going on for him currently and what his fans can expect in the near future - later in the summer, he will return to WOTS with some updates on his music. Megan and Isaac talk about some new albums while playing some tunes from local artists such as Andrew Mulat, Louis Rain, Sunjuicelava, Honda Carter and of course, Lil Bean.
In this segment, Isaac talks to a returning interviewee: Andrew Mulat. The rapper/singer gives details on his new album "UltraAVX," which releases May 19. Andrew made his original appearance for WOTS back in February. This time around, he discusses his progression as an artist in terms of maturity and versatility, who he's working with this summer, upcoming shows and more. Collaborator Chuck Francis (Aidan Sandy), part of Mulat's group August Kuper also contributes to the conversation along with another guest, Josh.
The majority of this session is various music being played, but there was some brief discussion of Childish Gambino's "This Is America" with a guest.
And....it's a wrap! The first year of the Music affairs Collective could not have been better. We've had a great time interacting with all our listeners and all the talented artists in the Lower Mainland of BC and the rest of Canada. From us to you, we say THANK YOU! This week's episode features a live performance by the Shit Talkers, an all female Canadian rock n roll band, currently promoting their newest EP "I Scream". According to the band, the EP consists of "8 ornamental masterpieces bridled in sin,filth and wit," and is their first official release recorded with Steve Loree at Crabapple Downs in Nanton, AB.
The episode ends with a short and candid interview with them, where we talk about the origins of their name and get the low down on their upcoming BC tour.
