Good morning and good coffee everybody! Well there’s a lot of excitement on our farmstead this past week with the birth of baby goats. So far three mamas have kidded five babies, and we still have more to come. You know this winter was kind of hard with the death of one of our guardian dogs and three of our goats, but even in the darkest winters we can hope and have faith that a green spring will come. Living on a farm we are reminded on a daily basis of this incredible cycle of life, that for everything under the sun there is a season, and we need to enjoy those blessings as they appear.

Good morning and good coffee everybody! Yes, I goofed up the date in the podcast again. It is not May 4 it is April 4. This morning I woke up too early, and I was pondering many things. One of my ponderings was about the women who follow Jesus, loved him, watched him crucified and killed, and were planning to go to the tomb and properly prepare his body for burial. With their focus on what had happened over the days before, and thinking about what they needed to do that morning, none of them were expecting the encounter they were about to have and the message that they would have the privilege of delivering to Jesus’ disciples.

Good morning and good coffee everybody! Well it’s been eight days since my last podcast, and I believe the rest was well needed. Today I want to share with you about a trip this past weekend to Bowling Green, Kentucky, that involved a visit with my son and his girlfriend and some fun activities around the town. One place we stopped was the Aviation Heritage Park that has a small number of some amazing aircraft with wonderful histories behind them. To me one of the things that’s important is to ground yourself with the important parts of history, and I did that this past weekend. Let me share with you why this is important to me.

You can either listen to Yesterdays podcast or today’s and find out that little story. Today I wanna share with you some memories that have been stirred by one of the Facebook groups that I belong to called the Panther Marching Band. It’s funny how sometimes a single memory may cause an avalanche of memories when shared to a group even if not everybody in the group is from the same era. If you want to hear some fun stories about my time in college band then grab a cuppa coffee and have a listen.

Are you thinking you don’t have room for a garden? Well there are ways of doing gardening in a very small space and I’ll share a couple of ideas with you today so you can be as excited as I am!

Good Morning and Good Coffee! Have you ever met a political big-wig? Most if not all have met those in local politics, but what about at the State or National level. I've had the opportunity to see (not meet) three Presidents and walked in a parade beside a Governor, but now it is taking on a much more personal level (no I'm not running for anything), but a man I call a friend is running for office, and that is pretty cool! Good Morning and Good Coffee! Today I want to share with you something that I taught about in a recent therapy session. This individual frequently had undesired fights with their spouse and found himself avoiding conversations to keep the peace. Good morning and good coffee! I hope all of you had a very Merry Christmas with your family and friends. One of my presents we a new Kindle Fire, and I downloaded a free book that I started reading... and I Love It! It is titled The Success Principle by Jack Canfield (the guy who did all those Chicken Soup for the Soul books). Within the first five minutes of reading the book was speaking to me, or should I say that it was repeating what I have been teaching people in therapy for years. His fresh way of speaking to the subject has been a pleasure to read. So, this week I am going to share with you some of my favorite parts from the beginning of this book. In part two of the podcast we explore how Jesus is the resurrection and the life, and the life he wants us to have is the life of him living in and through us. How can this be? Good Morning and Good Coffee! What a wonderful time of year, and one of the things I enjoy most are receiving Christmas cards with family photos and letters from people I know and care about. What a joy to see how our life paths have lead us in so many different directions. We need to enjoy our own blessings and rejoice in the blessings of others and not compare ourselves, which leads to jealousy or self-condemnation. Focus on the blessings that are different for each of us and be happy. Good morning and good copy! Well as we go into another day that is preoccupied with the coronavirus, there are many changes we are learning about taking place in different states. While many people are feeling fear, I’m not feeling fear because what’s taking place is very much like a storm. We have storms all the time, we prepare for them, and we ride the storms out to their end. And I think that’s what we are experiencing today. We are experiencing changes or the announcement of changes on a very frequent basis, and change results in stress, and stress can result in fear if we let it. Don’t let these changes result in fear. By the way, in preparing for the podcast I remembered the song by REO Speedwagon titled Riding the Storm Out. The lyrics give a good outline for how we should ride out this storm. Ridin' the storm out, waitin' for the thaw out On a full moon night in the Rocky Mountain winter My wine bottle's low, watching for the snow Thinkin' about what I've been missin' in the city And I'm not missin' a thing Watchin' the full moon crossing the range Ridin' the storm out Ridin' the storm out My lady's beside me, she's there to guide me She says that alone we've finally found home The wind outside is frightening but it's kinder than the lightning life in the city It's a hard life to live but it gives back what you give Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Gary Richrath Ridin' The Storm Out lyrics © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, BMG Rights Management

Today I challenge you to meet up with someone and take the time to learn their story for deeper relationships and deeper connections.

Good Morning and Good Coffee! As I look out at several inches of snow on my back deck I am reminded about the importance of winter weather tips. Winter storms can be dangerous and life threatening, and while reading some safety tips I started thinking about the social storms that hit when people are highly stressed during the holiday season. So, with the inspiration coming from the weather I am offering some social storm survival tips for your consideration.
Prepare Yourself
Some social interaction tips to help you get through a severe stretch of stress, anxiety, and drama.
Spend time with warm, friendly, and supportive family and friends during social storms.
Walk carefully around those who are highly distressed where conversations are difficult and slippery. You may fall into something you’re not anticipating.
Avoid getting involved in other people’s problems as if they were you own. Helping others with their emotionally charged issues is a serious workout and can negatively impact your emotional health and has been known to kill relationships.
If you are going to help someone with high stress, anxiety, and drama in their lives, make sure you have plenty of insulation for your own protection. Keep an emotional distance, because if you get emotionally involved you will lose the emotional insulating value and the drama will be transmitted to you quickly.

Good Morning Everyone! Are you feeling overwhelmed? We can feel overwhelmed from too much change, loss, fear, responsibilities or expectations. When we feel overwhelmed over a long period of time we can experience despair. And when we endure despair too long we will begin having major negative changes in who we see ourselves, others, and the world in the past, present and future. This is not a good place to be. If you find yourself in this situation I would recommend seeking out a therapist who can help you change the way you think to correct these changed beliefs. However, if you are not there yet, then I would recommend you pursue restoring balance in your life by trying to limit the amount of change in your life resulting in a better sense of stability and predictability, accepting losses over which you have little to no control, learn how to stop treat unreal fears or fears from the past as if you are in danger now, have reasonable responsibilities and delegate when it makes sense to do so, have realistic expectations for yourself and others, and finally develop a pattern of using logical reasoning instead of emotional reasoning.

Good Morning and Good Coffee! Today I tried something different. I recorded the podcast and did a Facebook Live at the same time! Good Morning Everyone! In today's podcast I explore the phrase and concept of Positive Mental Attitude. In doing some research I learned that the concept of positive mental attitude has been attributed to Napoleon Hill in his classic book "Think and Grow Rich." I also describe the phase Positive Mental Attitude as "To Anticipate Good Things" and as a "Confident Rational Point of View". It then gave my thoughts from a blog post by Declan OFlaherty on the website Tiny Buddha titled "8 Tips to Help Create a Positive Mental Attitude". (3) Be be in balance is to keep or put something in a stead position so that it does not fall.

Good Morning Everyone! Today I want to talk about the tragedy that occurred yesterday in Paris: the burning of the Cathedral of Notre Dame. It was a horrible and sad sight to see on television. I also reminded me of another fire at a Catholic institution that hit a little closer to home. On April 4, 1949, 70 years ago this month, the St. Anthony Hospital fire took the lives of 74 people including 11 newborns and my great-great aunt, Arminda Baker. Life does have tragedy, whether international, local or personal. The question for us today and every time tragedy strikes is what is important enough in life to restore out of the flames of the tragedy? It is not an easy answer, but very i1mportant none the less.

Good Morning and Good Coffee!! I hope you are doing well and getting ready for a great day. It's Friday, and I'm a bit excited and ready for the weekend....mostly doing chores, but I get to be outside and soak up some sunshine! Today, I talk about Believing You Can Be Well. More than just a catchy phrase, believing you can be well is moving away from the word "can't" and not being satisfied with the status quo. It is about looking for and implementing ways to be better off, to be well, in your circumstances. Don't conform to the notion that this is as good as it gets. Today I share some of my experiences in mental health, what I have seen, and why I believe that you can be well. Good Morning Everyone! In today's show I talk about Creating Successful Change in our lives. First, I share four very important questions that you need to answer yes to for change to have a chance of happening.
Do I NEED help and change in this area?
Do I WANT help and change in this area?
Am I WILLING to do what is needed to have successful change?
Am I COMMITTED to seeing it through to completion?
I also identified 3 key areas of change: Beliefs, Actions, and Relationships.
Homework Assignment: Identify a specific area of change in one of the three key areas where you can answer "yes" to all four of the above questions, and write that down on a piece of paper, then start listing ways that you can make positive and permanent changes to improve your life!

Good Morning and Good Coffee Everyone! This morning I stumbled across the topic of ASMR in another podcast I was listening to. My daughter Jessica first shared this term with me, and so after hearing it again I did some quick-and-dirty research and found an interesting video that shows people who make videos involving tactile actions and soothing sounds for relaxation and pleasing physical sensations. You can watch the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxjfyBEIl7Q. However, this is actually not new, but is something quite old. It has just been rediscovered in our crazy, hussle-bussle, unhealthy, fast-paced life.

Hey Everybody! Good Morning to each and everyone of you. Today is Saturday and it is supposed to be sunny today, and I'm planning on taking a little time for myself and enjoy a walk outside and quiet time with the goat herd as I rest, relax, and recharge myself from a challenging week. Today, my topic is Wellness Tools from a program that I was trained in back in 2018 called WRAP or Wellness Recovery Action Plan. It is a great, easy to follow program that I have taught to many people over the past decade, and a key component of the program is call Wellness Tools. In today's episode I describe what Wellness Tools are and how to create your own Toolbox of Wellness Tools. For more information on WRAP visit their website at http://mentalhealthrecovery.com/info-center/

Good Morning Everyone! While pondering the differences between worry and concern, a very popular song from the 1980's popped into my head. Don't Worry, Be Happy by Bobby McFarrin was a great song with a great message. Good Morning and Good Coffee and Good Tea.... Actually, Lipton Raspberry Green Tea.... It's great on a wintery morning! Today we are having some bad weather including sleet and freezing rain, so we have hunkered down in the house. However, we have a new puppy who needs to go outside pretty frequently, which led me to pause for a moment and see how he is reacting the another day of totally new and amazing experiences. Wow, to have "puppy eyes" or "childlike amazement" at all that is around me. Well, maybe we still can have that amazement if we are willing to see that it is there every day.

Good Morning and Good Coffee! Hi Everyone. Today I'm recording from the middle of the framework of our new pole barn that is being built. You know, if you want to have a pole barn last for 50-100 years then you need to make sure the foundation and structure is solid, true and well connected. And it is that way in life when it comes to our decisions and behavioral patterns. Are we making decisions based on our emotions or character traits? Do our foundation posts go deep into the ground, or are we simply held to the ground by stakes that can easily be removed. In my podcast I reference the 12 Points of the Boy Scout Law, which is listed below:
A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, Reverent.
I'm also including an article I just found on Google. It is a short and fascinating read about when the Boy Scouts named a scout camp after John Wayne in 1979, just a few months before his death. John Wayne shared his thoughts about the Scout Law during the presentation, and I'm so glad I found it. Here is the link: https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2015/08/13/john-waynes-take-scout-law/

Good Morning and Good Coffee! Brrrr!!!! Yes, I'm complaining about the cold again, but I'm sure Spring is around the corner (at least the groundhog said so). In today's episode I talk about writing things down. You see when we write things down they become tangible or real, and we can do things with them so that our life becomes better! So grab some coffee, find a cozy spot to sit, and enjoy part of your morning with me.

Good Morning Everyone! Today I share some thoughts on decision making and will power. Why do we have a great idea, make a solid commitment to it, but still give up shortly after starting it? This podcast may have the answer you are looking for.

Good Morning Everyone! My how the weather changes from -38 degree windchill on Wednesday to Sunday (yesterday) it hit 70 degrees! And with the rising temperatures comes the "big thaw". Walking through the soupy barn lot areas and having to kick it in 4-wheel drive and cut ruts through the sod to get around construction vehicles made me stop and think about ruts. Ruts through soft ground can sure make a mess of things, but once things dry out later this year I can fix them up again. The same is true when we cut ruts in relationships...they need to be fixed as well.
