Jim Schlusemann, MSMIS, LSME, to be its 2023 president. SME presidents. Director of global business integration in Navistar’s Engine Group. Schlusemann achieved the executive position of chief information officer for Navistar’s engine business. In that role, he directed initiatives that expanded business operations worldwide. Schlusemann later helped Navistar relaunch manufacturing foundries in the US.
Schlusemann is a well-rounded, experienced professional with a unique ability to help teams execute complex projects. He has great leadership skills that enable him to reach across cultural and organizational differences to create breakthrough solutions. Over the years, Schlusemann’s brought this experience to SME, serving on the SME Member Council and the SME Board of Directors in 2005, 2006, 2011, and 2016-21, respectively. Schlusemann is the founder and president of Prosperia International LLC, focusing on business process improvement and management services.
Connie King – PMA – Workforce Development Director
Prior to joining PMA in May of 2022, King served as the director of professional development for Baldwin Wallace University, where she created and delivered original, competency-based learning programs for external organizations and university employees. Connie also previously worked for the University of Akron as a manager of business solutions, where she developed and implemented internal and external organizational development programs, and created community, industry-based consortiums for assessing and satisfying skills demands.
Before her higher education career, Connie worked in a variety of corporate and entrepreneurial positions which included expertise in marketing, trade show/events management, publishing, and training and development.
Connie earned a bachelor’s degree in Business from Baldwin-Wallace College and an MBA from the University of Akron.

Douglas Johnson is the President and owner of Marion Manufacturing in Cheshire, where he manages the operations of a 76 year old manufacturing company.
Doug recently finished a two year term as chairman of the Connecticut Community Foundation where he still serves on numerous committees.
Serves on the Campaign Leadership Cabinet of United Way of Greater Waterbury.
He is a board member of the Naugatuck Valley Community College advisory committee for the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Center.
He has served as President of the Smaller Manufacturers Association of CT and currently serves on its Board of Directors and co-chairs its Education Committee.
Doug also serves on the National Board of Directors for the Precision Metalforming Associationwhere he was recently elected as the national chairman of the board for 2022.
Doug is very active in the community where he serves on numerous comprehensive and technical high school advisory boards throughout the region. He is a past board member of the Cheshire Chamber of Commerce and volunteers for the American Lung Association, Smilow Cancer Center, Special Olympics cycling events and many other nonprofits. Douglas is a graduate of the School of Industrial Management at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He lives in Cheshire with his wife Megan.

He began on the operations side of the business in the factory. He quickly learned that he was a process person and doors quickly started appearing for me to walk through. He has spent time in Customer Service, Technical Service, Logistics, Machine Installation, Operator Training, Product Management, New Product Line Launches, Sales and has been the V.P. of Sales and Marketing for the last 3 years. It has been a great company to work with and still looking forward to the future.

SME CEO Bob Willig, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the manufacturing industry, has held multiple leadership positions for global divisions within major manufacturing companies, most recently at Stoneridge Inc. where he was president of the Control Devices Division. Prior to Stoneridge, Willig served as president and CEO of Plasan Carbon Composites; before that he was president, Americas, for GKN Driveline, an automotive industry supplier focused on drive system technologies. Earlier in his career, Willig was president of both Power Transmission and Powertrain at The Gates Corp. He has also served on various boards, including Plasan’s Board of Directors, GKN’s Chief Executive Council and Gates Corp. Asia’s Board of Directors.
Willig has extensive experience leading teams across multiple cultures, languages, locations and disciplines.

Thomas R. Kurfess received his S.B., S.M. and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering from M.I.T. in 1986, 1987 and 1989, respectively. He also received an S.M. degree from M.I.T. in electrical engineering and computer science in 1988. Following graduation, he joined Carnegie MellonUniversity where he rose to the rank of Associate Professor. In 1994 he moved to the Georgia Institute of Technology where he rose to the rank of Professor in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering. In 2005 he was named Professor and BMW Chair of Manufacturing in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at ClemsonUniversity’s International Center for Automotive Research. In 2012 he returned to Georgia Tech where he was appointed the HUSCO/Ramirez Distinguished Chair in Fluid Power and Motion Control and Professor of Mechanical Engineering. During 2012-2013 he was on leave serving as the Assistant Director for Advanced Manufacturing at the Office of Science and Technology Policy in the Executive Office of the President of the United States of America. In this position he had responsibility for engaging the Federal sector and the greater scientific community to identify possible areas for policy actions related to manufacturing. He was responsible for coordinating Federal advanced manufacturing R&D, addressing issues related to technology commercialization, identifying gaps in current Federal R&D in advanced manufacturing, and developing strategies to address these gaps.
He has served as a special consultant of the United Nations to the Government of Malaysia in the area of applied mechatronics and manufacturing, and as a participating guest at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in their Precision Engineering Program. He is the President for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of SME, the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining, and the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, and on the Board of Trustees for the MT Connect Institute. His research focuses on the design and development of advanced manufacturing systems targeting digital manufacturing, additive and subtractive processes, and large scale production enterprises. He has significant experience in high precision manufacturing and metrology systems.

Mont Handley is the Founder/Inventor of PittMoss a ten-year-old startup and Plantennas, his latest venture designed to use robots and automation in growing facilities and greenhouses. He has served as the Associate Director and Entrepreneur in Residence at Purdue University Northwest Commercialization and Manufacturing Excellence Center for the past five years. In the role he has earned grant awards to assist PNW students and local residents to patent and prototype their inventions and, most recently, earned funds to prove the concept of automated and robotic run greenhouses.
Mont and his product, PittMoss, were featured on ABC Television’s Shark Tank (April 2015) and his pitch netted $1,160,000.00 from Mark Cuban and a group of Pittsburgh investors.
Mont’s success in building a one-of-a-kind manufacturing facility in the Pittsburgh region were featured on ABC’s Beyond the Tank (April 2016). Mont retains a board seat and is a significant shareholder of the company he founded and is in the fund-raising process again with his next venture

Dr. Jason B. Jones is a pioneer in the combined use of Additive Manufacturing (AM) and CNC machining. He is the co-founder and CEO of Hybrid Manufacturing Technologies, which equips CNC machines with AM and laser processing capabilities. In 2015, Hybrid’s AMBITTM multi-task tools were recognized as
the best innovation in AM with the inauguration of the International Additive Manufacturing Award (IAMA) worth over $100K. Dr. Jones has a PhD in 3D printing from the University of Warwick and has led millions of dollars of AM research
and authored numerous publications and patents over the last decade. His investigations focus on hybrid processing of metals, multi-material parts and smart product production.
Dr. Jones was a founding member of ASTM’s Committee F42 (the rst technical community for AM standards) where he has led the development of several AM standards (including ISO/ASTM 52921). He also serves as a leader of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers’ (SME) community advisors for AM (the largest professional 3D printing community world-wide). For years prior to his research appointments, he worked as technical manager in the CNC and 3D printing industry in London.

Eric is a longtime member-leader of SME technical communities, with a BSME from Michigan Tech.

Russ Waddell is the managing director for the MTConnect Institute and responsible for day-to-day business operations. He also sits on the Technical Steering Committee for the MTConnect standard. Prior to this role, Waddell worked at AMT – The Association For Manufacturing Technology as an industry economist where he provided statistical research for sales and marketing in the manufacturing technology industry. Waddell holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from The College of William and Mary.
