CMI speaker Lucien Tuinstra presents evidence for a global flood as the Bible describes it.
Do we live our lives as if the Lord were present with us? Micah proclaims The Lord's judgement on his people because they have forgotten that very thing and it changes everything.
Does God have anything to say to his people and the world around us? Micah challenges and encourages us, the Lord is never silent to his people.
As we begin a brand new year we might well be thinking about how God will lead us and help us worship Him, how we will grow and change and how we will reach the community around us. The answer is not simply by our own strength or cleverness, or through connections in the community but by the Spirit of God at work in us.
Christmas brings a lot of different emotions to the surface, but the key emotion we should feel is joy. Christ has come to bless us in a way we never thought possible. God himself wants us and by sending Jesus allows us to know Him, this is joy to the world.
We long for lasting commitment in our relationships with one another and Christmas is about that very thing. It is about God’s total commitment to be with us, love us and care for us forever. What better gift do we need at Christmas than that?
Why is God worthy of all our lives? Why should we follow him? Why should we care what he wants? Paul tells us it’s because God is glorious and there is no-one else like him in the entire universe.
This Sunday as we take time to remember those who have served our country in numerous conflicts we know the peace they purchased is temporary. However we also want to remember the One who sacrificed himself for peace between God and man that has already begun and will last into eternity.
When we trust in Christ we are saved from our sins, but God doesn't leave us on our own. He saves us into his family where we can love and be loved, where we can serve and be served. This is how God's love spreads throughout the world, through family.
Paul has written so many things in this letter, he has addressed so many issues, but he reminds us we never go beyond the basics. Jesus Christ is our saviour, everything must come back to that.
Jesus loves us, this is why chose to come and be our saviour. His love doesn’t end with us however, in loving us he expects that love to overflow and bless those around us.
We follow the same saviour but living, working and worshipping together can be hard going. We are all still different although we are united by Christ. Paul helps us understand how stay together despite our differences.
How are we to live as a Christian people in a non-Christian world? How should we respond to those in authority over us who do not share our worldview? Paul explains how we can live in the world without becoming like the world.
How can we stand fast during times of blessing or adversity? Joel Smith leads us through Philippians 1:19-26 and shows us the ground of Paul's confidence no matter what he faced.
What does the Christian life really look like? Think you know what a proper Christian is? Are you sure? Paul teaches us what true Christians really look like.
Paul encourages us that even in the face of apparent defeat God is working all things out so that, in the end, he is victorious and gets the glory for it all.
Has God failed? Is this the best God can do? As we look at sin corrupting the world and those who reject God, we might wonder has God failed? Paul shows us that far from failing God’s saving work is perfect and it is all we need.
We want to see transformation in our community. We want to see those we love saved and we want to know hat we are making a difference in our world. How can this be achieved? Paul tells us in Romans 10.
Paul encourages us that no matter who you are, where you're from or what you've done you are never beyond the saving power of God.
Doug Scott leads us through Philippians 2:1-11 and helps us consider how much it cost God to save us and what that purchase means for us.
Bill Slack leads us through 1 Thessalonians 2 and shows us the encouragement Paul gives for when life is hard and we are going through the mill.
Jim McFarlane leads us through John 14:15-31 and shows us the blessing we receive from God in the person of the Holy Spirit
Joel Smith leads us through Acts 24 as Paul boldly proclaims the gospel to his accusers.
What is the source of our confidence in day to day life? Our own ability or skills? The security of a job? Our friends or family? These things can all be taken away or lost. At the end of Romans 8 Paul tells us where true and lasting confidence really comes from.
God made us to live lives that are holy and pleasing to him. This life should bring us joy, but all too often we wonder if we will ever manage it. God knows and provides help for us every step of the way.
Through Jesus God blesses us with forgiveness for our sins. As if this wasn’t good enough he will restore the whole of creation and will give us a part to play in this new world. In Jesus we are heirs of future glory.
What difference does being a Christian make to your life? Paul tells us in Romans 8 that we no longer live according the flesh, we now live according to the Spirit. What does this mean though?
As we go through this life striving to be faithful to Christ, we all struggle. It seems sin, will always be a problem yet Paul offers us encouragement from his own struggle to see sin defeated.
What happened at Pentecost? What is the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer today 2000 years on? While answers to this question abound Paul tells us there is one foundational role the Holy Spirit performs in the life of all believers in every age.
Death and life – We live in a society today that wants to hear and see nothing of death, but it is a reality we all face. What are we to do in the face of death and what is true life?
Inner peace just won’t cut it – According to our culture if you are at peace with yourself you will be content with your life. Paul tells us however, inner peace will never be enough.
Resurrection, really?! – How could it be possible that Jesus really did die and was raised up to life again? Why is this such a big deal anyway? What difference should it make to me?
Strong faith for weak people – We have all failed while trying to change and better ourselves. The problem is we are weak, but God has a solution.
Want to be truly blessed? – What does it mean to be truly blessed with Covid, lockdown and all the other worries in our lives at the moment?
What to do when you don’t measure up – We often worry we are not good enough in many areas of life. The harsh truth is we aren’t good enough at life itself, but Paul offers us all hope!
Equality for all – Although great inequality marks our world Paul tells us that we all stand on a level playing field before God. Is this the kind of equality we really want though?
As Joel shares from 2 Timothy under the heading 'Preach the Word' we are reminded that the Word of God is not only central to preachers and Bible teachers, but to all Christians young and old.
Clean hearts and dirty hands – What is a Christian? Does it mean being religious? How does following Jesus change your life? Paul brings some clarity and a challenge for us all.
True justice – We all say we long for a just world, but what is true justice? Do we really want a just society when our own lives are under examination?
Real transformation – Paul encourages us that although God hates the sin that marks all our lives, He can bring meaningful and long-lasting transformation to anyone who asks for it.
As Paul prays for the church in Rome we see the love and care he has for these men and women because of their common bond in Christ and their common goal of serving him in the world. Though they are hundreds of miles away they are his authentic family, just as our church family is to us today.
