Each section is carefully crafted to deliver an exceptional listening experience that will keep you engaged from start to finish.We start with "Uranus & Gaea: World Sounds," where I've curated a selection of tracks that transport you to different parts of the world. Nicos' "Secret Love" sets the tone with its exotic melody, followed by The Sura Quintet's "The Bay of Love," which takes you on a journey through the Mediterranean. Almadrava's "Distancia Del Mar" and Arno Elias' "Corazon" continue to transport you to different parts of the world, while Jerome Isma-Ae's "Underwater Love" adds a touch of mystery to the mix. Howl refers to a moment in the book where the protagonists force themselves to face the pain of the death of a loved one. Confronted with the notion that there’s no escape from the grief, all the protagonists can do is let out long, angry howls.

Considering I am, at the moment, trying to cope with the murder of someone I’ve known since they were born, and how the randomness of it all is devastating to consider, the buildup in this set leading up to the 46:12 mark is my long howl.

Take a listen when you’re alone and have a moment to yourself to touch upon whatever grief or sadness you’re trying to process.

Heal yourself through music, as I’ve done so through this set.

DESCRIPTION:

I created this DJ set back in November 2013, when I was challenging myself to take samples and create film scores out of DJ sets for my favorite movies.

I had done this with Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, which was easy to do given I was so into South African House Music at the time, which lends itself easily to that romantic mood.

But The Matrix? I wanted to see if I could pull it off.

Description:

There's a reason why I'm calling the fourth episode of my DJ podcast the Purple Room.

Again, it's tied to a literary project I have since finished during the quarantine period of the pandemic. The end of the night feel I, along with my girlfriend at the time, would have after a night of dancing at legendary NYC clubs like Save the Robots and The Limelight. We would keep the vibe of the night going in her room, where she had painted the walls purple.

It was in that Purple Room she had given me the name, Karma of Dove—taken from the 2nd chorus of Jack Kerouac's Mexico City Blues. The poem was something she'd read to me whenever I'd wake up screaming from PTSD fueled nightmares as a way to calm me.

This old friend, years later, encouraged me to start making music and taking pictures again. It was a way not to hide from life anymore and think of myself as more than a stay-at-home dad.

What the dead would give to have our problems—she's no longer around.

I have nothing but gratitude.

The sound in this DJ set is an expression of gratitude and a way of touching that feeling I had when, back in the day, I would lose myself in the music.

The theme of the third episode of my DJ podcast is Space. It is not literal space but the ecstatic space experienced by lovers. It's one of the themes I explore in a novel I'm almost finished with the editing. The sound in this DJ set is meant to evoke that feeling of ecstatic space.
