Suzi Kory Bio

‘A lusciously arranged ballad reminiscent of Linda Ronstadt’s glorious country roots’ is how FYI Music News recently described Canadian country-rock artist Suzi Kory's latest ballad 'Settle of the Dust'. Considering Kory possesses the lyrical vulnerability and glistening vocals of Emmylou Harris, while maintaining the powerful delivery of Ronstadt it comes as no surprise that alongside Dolly Parton she cites these country queens as her biggest musical influences.

Born in Beirut, Kory's parents moved the family to Toronto when she was eight months old. Her mother, a devoted fan of country music would continuously play classic country, and Kory found herself singing along. By her teens, she became exposed to hard rock, most notably Guns N’ Roses.

Once upon a time in the dark, smoke-filled alleyways of the city, a group of guys came together with a shared hunger for raw, untamed music. They call themselves Black Cat Bone, the name whispers with reverence by those who know the secrets of the night. Influenced by the deep roots of blues, the thunderous energy of rock, and the rebellious spirit of rock' n' roll, these guys set out to redefine what it means to make music. BCB are born out of the shadows of Edinburgh, Scotland fuelled by a primal desire to break free from the chains of conformity.

Jamie Williams & the Roots Collective are like the classic touring bands of the 70s: They are almost a travelling circus; a dysfunctional family of a band. They're tight without being boringly slick; leaving just enough rough edges to become one of the most exciting and fun 'originals' live bands on the circuit today. Their ethos is ‘it's not just a gig, it's a night out’. This is a band who love to entertain people and to make them smile; to inspire them to dance and sing along. Settled into the current super-tight lineup after many years and hundreds of shows the band is on fire right now, bringing their own style of Country Blues, Rock & Americana to the gig. They always want to have fun and make sure the crowd does too. This is not a band that stands onstage staring at their (red) shoes.

Emerging from the speaker like some disturbed three-headed monster and bursting onto the scene with their new self-titled EP….On the tip of your tongue… Can’t put your finger on it… The sound of Squawk delivers flashbacks of 60’s psychedelic rock with flavors of 70’s prog and jam, along with an unrestrained eclecticism that evokes everything from jazz funk fusion to thrash metal and cinematic soundscapes. As experimental as Frank Zappa’s soul patch and as comfortably southern as a hair of Duane Allman’s 1971 lamb-chop sideburns.

Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, The Ides of June brings a refreshing new approach to the Southern Rock genre. Pulling influences from the likes of The Allman Brothers Band and The Black Keys, their sound is the product of a diverse background of influences from each member. Powerful vocals, thunderous (occasionally fuzzy) bass lines, funk and jazz inspired drum grooves and dual lead guitarists all contribute to the unique fusion of Blues and Southern Rock with just a touch of psychedelia to keep things interesting.

While Kristin Tinsley’s range of musical taste is extensive, a seminal moment occurred when she first watched and listened to Fleetwood Mac’s “The Dance.” Stevie Nicks distinctive voice resonated and called out to her. And, she took to heart the advice Tom Petty gave to Stevie when she was recording “Trouble in Shangri-La,” which became the lyrics to her song “That Made Me Stronger,” “…Will you write this for me He says no, you write your songs yourself That made me stronger It made me hold on to me…,” That strength lead Kristin to know she has the voice and talent to lead a Stevie Nicks tribute band, Stand Back in recognition to her all-time favorite musician.

These house rules were to help them completely re-think how they would write songs. Stephen Blackburn & Rick Reese

Country music is at its best when it honors the past while blazing a trail toward the future. Few artists can bridge the genre’s most beloved traditions while carving a path of their own, but Tommy Townsend successfully inhabits that unique space. The Georgia native actually began recording his “new” album Southern Man more than 25 years ago working with Country Music Hall of Famer Waylon Jennings and his legendary bassist Jerry Bridges. Townsend met Jennings when he was just a kid and never dreamed his idol would one day become his mentor.

“Hell’s Angels used to do security for Waylon,” Townsend says, recalling the Georgia concert where he met Jennings. “My mom and dad were telling one of the guys that I liked Waylon and he said, ‘Bring Tommy down here to the gate after the show and we’ll let him meet him.’ I remember going on the bus and talking to him for 20-30 minutes. He was asking me questions about playing music and he was as nice as he could be, made me feel right at home.”

Mike Killeen Bio

Originally from Athens, Georgia and now calling nearby Decatur home, Mike Killeen has released five full-length albums and an EP—and shared the stage with alt-country luminary Jay Farrar, Grammy Award winners The Blind Boys of Alabama, and southern rock legends the Marshall Tucker Band. He counts Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Vic Chesnutt, and Uncle Tupelo among his formative influences.

Killeen’s recent release include the EPs, “6.17.20” and “1.9.21,” as well as the single, “It’s Time For California To Come Home.”

Killeen’s most recent full-length album, “Ghost,” was produced by Ken Coomer (Wilco, Uncle Tupelo) at his Cartoon Moon Studios in Nashville and released in 2019 on Saturn 5 Records to worldwide distribution. “Ghost” features Killeen’s strongest set of songs to-date, and his collaboration with Coomer builds on his Americana roots, with a collection of tracks that straddles the lines between genres, including folk rock, pop rock, indie rock, and alternative rock. Killeen penned and contributed lead vocals for all nine songs, and played electric and acoustic guitars, harmonica, and piano. Coomer said of Killeen: “Mike Killeen can take you to that place, the place of a lost love, that yearning we all have for someone, or he can paint the picture of human loss, that deep line that runs between life and death.”

Bio

Brian Wiltsey is a songwriter and producer from Atlanta, GA. Known for his strong voice and knack for writing catchy lyrics and melodies, Brian’s style can be described as sensitive artist to straight-up pop rocker. Whether performing solo or with his talented backing band, Brian Wiltsey never disappoints.

Music has meant so much to Wiltsey from the first time he heard a Beatles record as a little boy. “I can remember trying to always figure out if it was John or Paul singing lead before I even knew that the band had broken up 10 years before I was born!”

Spending most of his life as a performing artist, as a front man of a popular touring band in the 90s within the college music scene, to going solo in 2001 and 6 albums under his belt , Brian decided in 2016 to make the transition to writing in his studio for tv/film/ad licensing, while still performing as a live musician at nights.

Daniel Pratt Bio

Created with a passion to play the music that makes people feel, Daniel Pratt is a songwriter, singer, speaker, worship leader, and entrepreneur.

Daniel first began discovering his love for music at the tender age of 12 when he was given a guitar on Christmas morning. He entered the music scene leading worship at a former youth conference, Acquire The Fire, and from there became the worship leader at his local church for seven years. Since then, he’s been using his personal experiences of God, love, and the journey of life, to inspire his dream to keep pursuing the music that makes him come alive.

Daniel began a worship movement called @thepourworship that meets once a month in his community. He also owns a coffee business he launched during the beginning of the pandemic, Panama City Coffee Co. that provides Panamanian coffee to locals via his coffee bike. Daniel’s coffee business was a way for him to give back to his city which lost so much during devastating Hurricane Michael that hit the area hard in 2018.

Daniel has always stayed busy chasing after all of his passions, but his true purpose is realized when he’s singing songs captivating the listener through convicting lyrics and catchy melodies. His songs invite listeners on a journey of discovering the complexities of the heart, mind, and soul.

Daniel lives in Panama City Beach with his wife Jenn and their three children, Jace, Livi, and Ellie. Daniel and his wife are joyfully expecting another baby in June 2022.

In 1999, he formed Mambo Sons with singer Scott Lawson, based upon a songwriting partnership that dated back to the early 1980s. Their debut album, released in 1999, featured guitar legend Rick Derringer. This twelve-song effort contained both new music as well as songs the two had originally written a decade before, and yet was immediately met with very positive reviews.

Born Healer Bio

Born Healer have been bringing their soulful, heavy, groovy blues-rock to enthusiastic audiences since 2015. Now with a rebooted mojo, they're moving up to festival main stages in 2020. And with well-received support slots recently for Aynsley Lister, Skinny Molly, Focus and more, Born Healer are hitting their stride.

Helen Turner, on vocals, from Glasgow, Scotland, is "the real deal" according to Classic Rock magazine, "brilliant" and "in a different class" according to Classic Rock: The Blues, and simply "wonderful" according to Blues Matters. Beautiful vocals on record and even better live.

Iain Black, on guitar, has been Helen's musical partner for several years, including in the Bare Bones Boogie Band, whose third album, Tattered & Torn, was one of Classic Rock Blues magazine's top albums of 2013, and whose gigs were attended by Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant.

Marek Funkas, on bass, hooked up with Helen and Iain to form Born Healer in 2015. Originally from Poland, Marek has lived in London for 20 years and plays most of his music in the UK. Marek also plays with his own band, Laba, and regularly deps for major international touring artists including live performances at London's Scala and Wembley Arena.

Steve Weaver, on drums, joined Born Healer in January 2019 and brings a wealth of live performance experience from tours with original bands, tribute shows, function and cover bands. Steve fitted in super quickly to the Born Healer family and brings real spark and energy to live performances. He even fronts his own AC/DC tribute band!

Andy Jones played drums in Born Healer from the start until 2019. Andy was also in the Bare Bones Boogie Band with Helen and Iain. We wish Andy all the best

Weston T Hine is an artist who was born and bred in Northwest FL where roots music collides with the glassy emerald coast. Drawing on the well of musicians such as Wilco and Tom Petty, he has an ear for more current nuance, but a foundation set on music from the past. The music has been described as a blend between folk, indie-rock, and everything there is to love about Americana. Weston T Hine spends much of his time performing regularly along the Florida coast and has begun his solo musical journey with three break-out singles, “Give It Up” (2020), "Into The Mystic" (2021) a cover of Van Morrison's classic hit, and the most recent “Thinking Of You” (2022). Steve Rodgers Bio

Steve Rodgers, singer songwriter, has just completed recording his much anticipated first album, due for release this year and produced by Ken Nelson (Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Paolo Nutini) mixed by Adrian Bushby (Foo Fighters, Muse). His songs reflect his passion for life’s depth, mystery and wonder, recorded with his band of like-minded musicians. Critics compare his music to a mix of Jack Johnson, Paolo Nutini and Cat Stevens.

At 14 he began to write his own songs on guitar and piano. He started a band with his friends at 17, ‘Lost Sons of Davros’. From the ‘Lost Sons’ came ‘Boa’ they created two great albums – their first single ‘Duvet’ was the title track to the Japanese multi award- winning animation series Manga ‘Lain – Serial Xperiments’. They toured the States, the UK and after much enjoyment, Steve decided to follow his own path.

He has ‘guested’ at Wembley for Bad Company, Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and the Robert Randolph Band. Tours have included support slots for Bad Company in the UK and Japan and his own headline dates in the UK and Canada. Steve has also supported The Deborah Bonham Band and Midge Ure on their respective tours in the UK and Europe. In 2014 he supported Bad Company again with Lynyrd Skynyrd for their coast to coast US tour and in September 2015 he joined Stackridge for a three month tour of the UK. To coincide with his album release this year he will be touring again with Bad Company and Joe Walsh in the US and UK over four months.

Fred Sampson Bio

I’m a Reno, Nevada based platinum selling songwriter, musician, and producer. My best known credit, so far, is co-writing the MCA multi-platinum hit single “I Need Your Love" with Tom Scholz of the band Boston. I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and grew up there and in Brazil and Colombia. All that traveling exposed me to many ethnic and popular music styles at a very early age. Music was everywhere!

My musical journey has taken me from teenage garage band madness (I signed my first record contract at age 14), to busking country blues on the streets of Europe and the US, to performing with Chuck Berry, The Coasters, The Drifters, The Shirelles, Brian Highland, Cheech Marin and Little Anthony. I was also a member of Berkeleys' pop reggae band The Shakers, 50's/60's show band Johnny Baron and the Bel Aires, and a founding partner with the international touring production show Abbacadabra.

My latest project is a tribute to one of my all-time heroes, the legendary blues icon Howlin’ Wolf. Featuring a high energy collection of re-imagined blues classics, that also includes my autobiographical title song,“Tracking Down the Wolf."

I’m currently working on an album of guitar based original blues rock songs. Stay tuned!

Trey Nichols (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Jonathan Mackey (Bass, Vocals), Dylan Johnson (Drums), and Emmett Redding (Guitar, Vocals), make up Yes Trespassing. Born and raised in London, the Beatles perked a teenage Simon's interest in rock music, and he picked up the drums - leading to a gig with a local band called the Maniacs, on which Simon supplied drums and lead vocals (something quite uncommon at the time).

Simon worked out a deal with his parents after graduating high school, that if he couldn't "make it" as a drummer in a band within a two-year period, that he would begin a college career. Just a few months before the deadline, Simon landed a gig with a group called the Black Cat Bones. The drummer befriended the group's talented guitarist, Paul Kossoff, who in turn convinced Simon to leave the group with him and begin a new outfit with singer Paul Rodgers. Soon ex-John Mayall's Bluesbreakers bassist Andy Fraser signed on and Free was officially formed in 1968. Mixing blues with hard rock, the group would prove to be quite influential, especially on the strength of their classic 1970 release, Fire and Water, and its strutting, anthemic hit single, "All Right Now."

When the band broke up, it didn't take Simon long to find another gig, joining Paul Rodgers in a new band, Bad Company, which was quite similar stylistically to Free. Joined by ex-King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell and ex-Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs, Bad Company was the first group signed to Led Zeppelin's record label, Swan Song. Their debut album, 1974's Bad Company, would go on to become one of hard rock's all-time classics, as it birthed such long-standing rock radio standards as "Can't Get Enough," "Ready for Love," and the title track, written by Paul and Simon himself. The group hails as one of the all-time top rock outfits. Simon Kirke is the only member of Bad Company who’s been in every lineup of the band.

In addition to his work with Free and Bad Company, Simon has guested on a long list of recordings by other artists over the years, including albums by Wilson Pickett, Faces, Gov’t Mule, Jim Capaldi and Ron Wood, among countless others and he is often found drumming live on tour with acts like Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Ringo Starr & His All-Star Band. Simon recently toured with Bad Company and The Eagles' Joe Walsh, and recorded a soul-baring solo record, "All Because of You," with Chicago band, The Empty Pockets, released by The End Records/BMG (2017).

Birmingham born Trev’s musical gestation began in the crucial ten years from 1968, being exposed to a heady cocktail of anything from blues to Prog Rock, playing these styles in many local bands. Now a native of London, the last two decades have drawn and expanded on this experience, which he now brings to the Mojo Preachers. Along the way Trev has been instrumental in the creation of ‘3am’, the ‘Bare Bones Boogie Band’, the Joe Anderton Band and more recently, played a key role in the original incarnation of the ‘Malaya Blue Band’. All of this has been supplemented by his occasional appearances with his own band, TT&F and frequent, in demand, guest slots with other bands.

Jim Stapley has the kind of voice that comes along once in a generation; a powerful brew of blues and soul, laced with sublime falsetto. Described as “gritty, pretty, and profound” by Classic Rock Magazine, his songs of love, hope, and political disenfranchisement are stories for the everyman. Having worked with music industry legends including Kenney Jones (Faces/Small Faces/The Who), Ronnie Wood (Faces/Rolling Stones), Danny O’Donoghue (The Script), Tony Visconti (producer: David Bowie, T.Rex, Morrissey) and Eddie Kramer (producer: Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones), Jim Stapley is a lauded performer who delivers equal parts raw energy and mature vulnerability. Jim cuts through the noise, leaving his listeners feeling empowered, restored, and ready for the tribulations of another day.

The Great British Rock Band

The brainchild of singer Jim Stapley and guitarist Johnson Jay, the GBR Band is an exciting, authentic tribute to the timeless songs, unique, creative innovation, and revolutionary fashion of British rock music through the ages. Both Stapley and Jay are active members of The Kenney Jones Band (Drummer for the Small Faces, Faces, and The Who) and have worked with some of the great names in Rock 'n' Roll including Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood, Mike Rutherford, Bob Geldof, Paul Young, Steve Harley, Dave 'Bucket' Colwell, Rick Wills, Tony Visconti, and Eddie Kramer.

Now based in Nashville, Tennessee, they are joined by Mike Vargo (Bass & Vocals), Seth Timbs (Keys & Vocals), and Eric Stroud (Drums). The GBR band brings the quintessential, British Rock 'n' Roll show to the heart of your next event

Atlanta-based The Bitteroots set to release new album ‘Try Me Again’ April 8

As they embark on a limited run of shows this spring in the Southeast U.S., groove-rock band The Bitteroots are set to release their sixth album of original music.

“Try Me Again” collects some of the band’s favorite songs from its first 10 years — audience- tested at hundreds of shows — recorded as they’re performed today.

The album, set for digital release April 8, follows last summer’s single “Time to Spare.” The 13 tracks appearing on “Try Me Again” include updates of songs stretching back to the founding days of The Bitteroots in 2008. Through live performances and countless rehearsals, the songs have evolved — in some cases considerably — from the first recorded versions.

Bio

Mary Coughlin started her nursing career over 25 years ago in the US Air Force Nurse Corps caring for adults. As her military career diversified, she discovered the field of neonatal nursing, which has become her passion for the past 20+ years—and counting. Within the field of neonatal nursing, a care philosophy exists that acknowledges the human frailties, vulnerabilities, and needs of this fragile population. This philosophy of care is called developmental care.

Over the past six years, Mary has had the privilege to collaborate with internationally recognized clinical experts and made significant contributions to the ever-expanding body of knowledge relative to developmentally supportive care in the neonatal intensive care unit.

She has authored or co-authored numerous papers, is a recognized speaker and expert on developmentally supportive care, and is the President and Global Education Officer (GEO) of Caring Essentials Collaborative. She came to the realization that core caring actions, attitudes, and behaviors (the basic tenets of developmental care) transcend the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This realization prompted the creation of Caring Essentials Collaborative as an opportunity and a vehicle to disseminate information and engage healthcare professionals to implement and evaluate the profound impact of evidence-based caring actions, attitudes, and behaviors on the hospitalized individual, the family, and healthcare providers globally.

Larry Griffith Bio

Larry Griffith has been on a musical and geographic journey southward, and his fifth album, Bonafide, is the next step. Like any good blues, it was born of some hardship. Larry recorded it while going through a breakup, and had to halt production for two months to undergo throat surgery. Though the process was trying (because it was trying), the result is an honest and vivid reflection of the road Larry has traveled and the things he’s picked up and carried with him along the way. As songs like “Had Enough,” “It Ain’t What They Call You,” and “I’m Free” attest, Larry was down but never out.

A 2018 Semi-Finalist for the Georgia Country Female Artist of the Year, Jeannie Caryn found her way to music as a means of escape. Raised in “Sin City,” Las Vegas, Nevada, she longed for something other than gambling, neon, or plastic to which she could surrender her soul: “Something that would not implode like old buildings on the Strip,” she says. Life led Jeannie away from song and performance until April 2010, when she started playing out at various Open Mics throughout Atlanta. She quickly became a popular performer and began landing gigs throughout the city. She has been playing all throughout Atlanta and North Georgia ever since. According to Jeannie, she is driven by her passion to capture and celebrate the human experience through her artistic endeavors, always moving forward towards authentic communication and connections with those who share this world. Jeannie states, “It’d be great to see my name in neon lights on the Vegas Strip someday, but ultimately, as long as I can please an audience with story, song, and art, I feel accomplished!”

“Others before self”, a simple concept, yet it is so often overlooked as we move about our everyday lives. This idea is alive and well at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts in Florence Alabama! FAFA (the Academy) began 7 years ago and has grown to be a major proponent for the Arts in the State of Alabama. They began small and have grown tremendously. During his time as a board member of the Alabama Arts Alliance, the Director of FAFA realized that over 70% of the schools in the state offered no arts to their students. Examining the positive effects that the Academy had on attendance, grades and graduation rates, those involved with the Academy realized that there was a chance to have a positive influence in the schools without arts.

Muddy started playing guitar when he was just 13 years old. Hearing Paul McCartney singing "She´s A Woman” was then, the defining moment of his life.

He wanted to be a musician from then on in. It´s been a long road since, starting with some basic classical guitar lessons, then purchasing his first electric guitar (an Ibanez Les Paul copy) His first band comprised of school mates. His first recordings were with the Red House Blues band in the late 70s...

Muddy started playing professionally around -1979 - 1980 in his hometown of Helsinki; playing in different bands, & also doing sessions. Having formed his own first band Havana Blacks, soon after to be followed by Gringos Locos, who recorded three albums, one of them, Punch Drunk, was produced by the legendary Tom Dowd. All this was part of the learning curve leading him to join Wishbone Ash in 2004.

The first album featuring him was the 2005 "Clan Destiny". He then started honing his song writing skills for the following three albums, "Power Of Eternity", "Elegant Stealth" and the critically acclaimed "Blue Horizon"

Muddy became the band´s main song writer, as well as sharing the lead guitar duties.

Guitarist and composer Bill Hart earned his stellar reputation as a guitarist, composer, bandleader, music educator, touring musician and recording artist. Having released six CDs as leader of his world-renowned Bill Hart Band, Bill has also proven his merit as a guitar instructor. Bill’s music book, Solo Jazz Guitar: The Complete Chord Melody Method, issued by Hal Leonard in 1999 and reissued in 2007, is an excellent tutorial for aspiring guitarists. Speaking about his role as a guitar instructor, Bill explains “I have taught students from all over the world, with interests in all styles of music, and have seen them all benefit from studying chord melody”. Among the musicians in the know that have given praises to Bill’s book are guitar heroes such as Mike Stern (“a must-have for every serious guitarist”) and Steve Khan (“Bill’s book provides you with all the tools”).

The Robin Bibi Band was born in the late 90s when Robin was inspired to start his own Texas Style Blues/ Rock band after having worked as a session man with such arists as the Pretty Things, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Ben E. King and Helen Shapiro to name but a few.

The Band released their debut Album “Blue Thrash Therapy” in late 1997. Mainly blues standards with a couple of notable original songs thrown in. This album received AirPlay straight away from Paul Jones in his Jazz FM show and the band started to become popular in the live circuit. The follow up, “Language of Your Soul”, a work of mainly original material, was released to more critical acclaim in 2000.

Since then – and 8 more albums and a DVD later – the Robin Bibi Band have established themselves as one of the UK’s hardest working and most popular bands in their genre and Robin had been widely recognized as one of the UK’s finest Blues / Rock guitarists!

Troy Redfern combines the rawness of Hound Dog Taylor, the free-form approach of Sonny Sharrock, the firebrand playing of Johnny Winter and the technique of Dave Hole, mixed with the ghost of Elmore James’.

There’s something about the Welsh marches. As guitarist Troy Redfern tells it, he grew up in the shadow of Hergest Ridge, made famous by Mike Oldfield. The Welsh borders - roughly that area between Hay on Way, Brecon and Hereford - might not quite evoke the arresting geography and climate of say Louisiana, but there’s something about the freedom of that area...

Growing up in Northern Michigan, Jerome Rand had a late start in the world of sailing. It wasn’t until the age of 18 that sailing became the main focus of his life. First teaching sailing on the small inland lakes and then venturing out on yacht deliveries from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean. On one trip to the BVI he was introduced to the Bitter End Yacht Club and found himself working with the watersports center for the next 9 years.

It was during the last three years at BEYC that the pieces of a long-held dream started to take shape, to sail solo and nonstop around the world. On a small budget he purchased a 43 year old Westsail 32 and began the journey of a lifetime. The first year was spent fixing, breaking and fixing again anything that might be a weak point on the boat. In June of 2017 the boat, “Mighty Sparrow” was hauled out of the water and work began making modifications to endure the long trip ahead.

In October the boat was back in the water and weather window opened up to set out from Gloucester Massachusetts following a few nervous weeks watching hurricane Irma, Maria and then Jose storm through the Atlantic. On October 3 rd Jerome Rand set sail aboard the Mighty Sparrow for what would be a 271 day sail and the adventure of a life time.

To reach home, the boat would have to cross the North Atlantic during the end of Hurricane season then cross the South Atlantic on the way to the stormy seas of the Southern Ocean near the Cape of Good Hope. From there it was South of Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand on route to Cape Horn. Once around the Five Great Capes the boat turned North, heading for warm weather and a friendly ocean.

After two months of retracing the outbound track, on June 30 2018, the Mighty Sparrow sailed into Gloucester Mass after 9 months and 29,805 miles sailed. The journey tested every limit both mental and physical, from fierce winds to demoralizing calms, and everything in between. In the end it was perseverance and a bit of luck that would see this small boat through some of the world’s most dangerous seas.

The Empire State of the South has struck a resounding chord in the great American idiom Country Music. Producing artists as diverse as Zac Brown Band, Travis Tritt, and the Allman Brothers Band, Georgia has proven itself a showcase for the southern music scene. Now the Peach State is sending another son into the world of American music, Mike Lowry. He’s breathed in the smoke-filled air of hole-in-the-wall rib joints and felt the clickety-clak of the freights driving straight thru to Atlanta and that influence shines through in the true-to-life stories he tells through his songwriting and his virtuosic guitarmanship.

But native talent alone cannot make an artist great, it requires the journey of finding one’s self and the recognition of their own unique perspective. That journey has taken Lowry down many roads, but on his third album, Lowry’s train is pulling into the station.

Bio:

I began singing from the age of four years old, but proceeded to pursue athletics instead. I played softball during elementary school and then took up cheerleading in middle school. Cheerleading continued through my freshman year in high school, where I was a member of both the Junior Varsity football cheerleading squad and the Varsity competition squad.

Becoming extremely disenchanted with the affair, I decided to try out for the volleyball team. I was a member of the Varsity team during my sophomore, junior, and senior year. Over the three years, I received honorable mention (sophomore), first team all-county (junior, senior), team MVP (junior, senior), player of the year (senior), and was a member of the Georgia All-Star volleyball team (senior).

While in between high school seasons, I participated in the Junior Olympic Volleyball program. My senior year ended with me receiving a volleyball scholarship to Valdosta State University. I started as a defense specialist as a freshman. After the 2001 season, I moved back to Atlanta and worked.

In July of 2002, I decided to pick up the guitar. In August, I went to Georgia Southern University and played volleyball there for two years. Getting nowhere with my music, I decided to move back to Atlanta and try to do something. Once I got back, I started playing at local open mic venues and began to receive offers for shows. In 2005, I played my first solo show and have been playing frequently since then.

Over the years, I have written several songs and in November of 2005, I decided to professionally record a few of them. After almost a year, the project was finally completed.

Currently, I play around town 3-4 nights a week. The shows consist of either, solo, duo, or band gigs. A new project is in the works so new music will be available soon!

In February 2017, Monday Night Social emerged as a full five-piece band and into the Chattanooga music scene with their win in that year’s Road to Nightfall competition, however their musical roots as a group extend back a couple of years before that moment. Brock and Janet McGarity, along with Christian Mann, comprise the founding members of the band dating back to early 2015. Initially they performed as a more intimate, indie-folk group focusing on 3-part harmonies with Janet also handling percussion duties while Brock and Christian played acoustic guitar and mandolin respectively. Their songs in those early days were tunes they had written before meeting each other which they worked into 3-part, folksy arrangements and turned into a self-produced EP. In 2016 they began writing songs together which led to a refining of their sound and direction. By this point the 3-part harmonies had become central to their identity, but the real transition came in the form of instrumentation. The acoustic guitar and mandolin were still integral pieces, but the electric guitar began to carry more of the load which required a shift in how the rhythm operated in each song. Janet’s musical versatility found her now holding down acoustic on many of the newer songs as well as light, hand percussion while Josh English and JG Oliver joined the lineup on bass and drums respectively.

Zakiya Hooker is quite familiar with the blues. You could even say she had a front-row seat to view the best the genre had to offer, right in her own living room. Her dad was the renowned blues giant John Lee Hooker. To be the daughter of a Living Legend is a major obstacle. To choose to follow in his footsteps is a major undertaking. But rather than relying on her father, Zakiya has pursued life -- and music -- on her own terms, overcoming personal tragedy and skepticism along the way. But you know what they say, “the fruit never falls too far from the tree”. This certainly rings true with Zakiya.

Papa Jack Couch is a singer/songwriter of insight and wit. He performs originals forged over long years of two-lane blacktops and smoke-rise sundowns, with direct influences reaching back to Gram Parsons and Johnny Cash. Emerging with relevance and thump, he brings fresh perspective to the age-old themes; life of the soul, pain of the heart. His material resonates especially with those still trying to grow into full-fledged adulthood. With a voice of Tupelo honey over burnt sourdough, and a rhythm playing style -- on a battered ‘59 hockshop Martin -- just good enough to forestall eviction, his performances are always saved by inventive, insightful writing and an amazing range of observation. After spending his formative years all over Georgia, Florida and Alabama, and having survived two separate invasions of Nashville, most of his life has played out in Southeast Georgia’s endless pines and mysterious swamplands. He now lives in Meriwether County and loves nothing more than coming into town and playing hard won, hand carved music.

Their music and presence radiates an energy from the stage that lifts the audience out of their seats and pulls them to the dance floor. Backroad to Brooklyn is a duo composed of two “blue-eyed soul” singers, Emily Selleck and Ian Michael Bruh. The name is a nod to the singers’ backgrounds—Ian grew up in Coney Island Brooklyn, and Emily was raised in rural North Florida. Despite these vastly different upbringings, they share a love for music that knows no bounds. Outside of B2B, Ian performs regularly with his 10-piece Funk & Soul band, Bumpin’ the Mango, and Emily sings with The Atlanta Showstoppers.

Bio:

From velvety vulnerability to soul-tinged power, jazz vocalist Karla Harris brings sophisticated warmth and dynamic delivery to the music, drawing listeners with her into the story and musical substance of the songs she sings. She has made a career within the art form she loves for more than three decades, performing for audiences from Portland to Provence. Her repertoire blends genres with subtlety, remaining respectful to the roots of a song. Her art lies not only in expansive vocals but also in tapping into the emotion of a tune, and delivering it fully. “She lends her pulse to be a part of the heartbeat of the entire process, vocals and instrumentals,” writes AXS.com, “and the strange meandering force that lies between.” Critical Jazz says, “Rich, full-bodied and with a slight buttery finish, Karla Harris has mad skills – a vocal artist with impeccable phrasing and the innate gift to have the band play with and not around her.”

How do you describe The Rising Souls?

Equal parts Soundgarden, Rival Sons, Black Crowes, Queens Of The Stone Age? Well, it’s a start, but probably doesn’t do the band justice. Vintage Rock? Soul? Yes, probably getting closer.

The simple truth is that The Rising Souls are a combination of all of this, and so much more.

Led by the powerhouse vocals of Dave Archibald, The Rising Souls are one of Scotland’s exciting new bands! Their sound is an intoxicating mix of vintage rock and soul with a contemporary twist; Strong and meaty riffs, with intricate flowing grooves, and powerful, soaring vocals!

In the space of 12 short months, as a band, The Rising Souls have stamped their authority on the music scene by ensuring that they deliver killer songs, tight musicianship, and with dominating stage presence. With several high-profile festival and support slots already under their belts, and sold out headline shows along the way, now is the right time for The Rising Souls to spread their message further afield.
