ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Aaron Boyd is a songwriter and worship leader from Belfast, Northern Ireland, best known for writing God Of The City, later recorded by Chris Tomlin and sung in churches around the world. But the song was not born in a stadium. It was written in a bar in Pattaya, Thailand, overlooking streets marked by exploitation and heartbreak.
In this episode, Justin Rizzo talks with Aaron about that night, and about the deeper story behind it. They explore his strict church upbringing with no drums, meeting Jesus as a teenager, and how early worship leading slowly turned into songwriting with a burden for broken cities.

ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Christian films and shows spark passionate conversations, and sometimes painful ones. Artists trying to honor Scripture while telling compelling stories often find themselves under fire, not from culture, but from fellow believers. In this episode, Justin tackles one of the most misunderstood tensions in faith-driven media: the difference between expanding a biblical narrative for clarity and contradicting Scripture altogether.

A wide-ranging, honest conversation about creativity, faith, business, and why “safe” art often feels hollow. ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Josh Scott has built one of the most recognizable pedal companies in the world, but his story didn’t start in factories or feature articles. It started in rural Alabama, in a shed with a hole in the floor, obsession-level curiosity, late-night circuit textbooks, and a stubborn refusal to fake what wasn’t real.
In this episode, Justin sits down with Josh to talk about the long road from burnout and near-miss record deals to church planting, entrepreneurship, and global scale. They unpack why process matters more than product, how pricing communicates value, what perception does to brand trust, and how serving a niche well can grow into a company shipping over 150,000 units a year.
If you’re a creative, founder, or curious skeptic, this episode will stretch how you think about art, calling, and building something that lasts. Subscribe, share it with a friend who needs a push toward honest work, and leave a review with one idea you’ll act on this week.

ABOUT THIS EPISODE
So many Christians are stuck, not because God is silent, but because they’re waiting for certainty instead of walking in obedience. In this episode, Justin unpacks one of the most common mistakes believers make: hyper-spiritualizing decisions instead of trusting God with forward movement. Drawing from Scripture, personal experience, and years of creative leadership, this conversation challenges the idea that faith always waits for clarity.
We talk about:
→ When waiting on God is wisdom, and when it’s fear
→ Obedience without guarantees
→ Why God often moves after we step out
→ The difference between discernment and paralysis
→ How this applies to creativity, calling, business, and faith
If you’ve been stalled, hesitant, or waiting for a “clear word” before moving forward, this episode is for you.

Starving is a choice, not an artistic requirement.
That single phrase from Jeff Goins’ book Real Artists Don’t Starve completely changed my life after 15 years as a worship pastor.
For too long, I believed the false story that pursuing creative work meant living in financial struggle, that passion and provision could never coexist. But history proves otherwise. Michelangelo, Shakespeare, and C.S. Lewis weren’t starving loners, they were strategic, collaborative professionals who built sustainable lives around their art.
👉 Whether you’re a worship leader, songwriter, entrepreneur, or dreamer, it’s time to stop choosing to starve. Your calling deserves provision. Your art, and your audience deserve nothing less.

What happens when God calls you away from the very success you've worked your whole life to achieve?
For Jesse Reeves, co-writer of worship anthems like "How Great Is Our God," "I Speak Jesus," and "Lord I Need You," that question became the defining challenge of his faith journey.
After 17 years of touring with Chris Tomlin, playing to packed arenas, and helping create some of the most sung worship songs in modern church history, Reeves found himself increasingly troubled by a sermon illustration about King David's anointing.
In this deeply vulnerable conversation, Jesse shares how walking away from music entirely led to "the dark years" - a season where he wouldn't even allow worship music in his home. But through that wilderness, God was preparing him for a profound rediscovery of authentic ministry.
Whether you're a worship leader, songwriter, or simply someone trying to follow Jesus faithfully, Jesse's journey will challenge your assumptions about success and inspire you to examine where your true treasure lies. Sometimes the greatest act of worship is walking away from the stage to care for the sheep.

Matt and Justin on IHOPKC, the Cost of 24/7 Prayer, and Finding Purpose in Pain
Matt Gilman and Justin Rizzo reflect on their years at IHOPKC and the beauty and cost of 24/7 prayer.
They talk about the emotional and spiritual toll of prolonged ministry, unpacking how bitterness can quietly grow in silence and how isolation during pain often leads to destructive conclusions.
Also part of the discussion is the power of community, counseling, and “detangling” your story with trusted guides who help separate truth from lies.
Pain has purpose.
Whether you're walking through suffering yourself or helping someone who is, this conversation offers hope, honesty, and practical guidance for moving from victim to overcomer, without denying the reality of your wounds.

Creative isolation might be the most common struggle that most creatives face.
Whether you're leading worship at a megachurch with hundreds of musicians or creating solo from your home studio, the absence of true creative community can leave you feeling adrift and uninspired.
When you make all your decisions in isolation, it can become incredibly challenging and often leads to stagnation of pursuing your gifts.
Waiting for the perfect season, schedule, or set of circumstances to pursue your creative ideas is a trap, and honestly, most of the time it's fear disguised as wisdom.
We need one another.

"Stay faithful, stay steady, and above all, stay small" became the unspoken mantra forced upon many worship leaders, artists, and creatives.
The biblical evidence overwhelmingly contradicts this mindset.

What happens when we're stuck between waiting for God's clear direction and taking initiative?
Many Christians default to "I'll pray about it" mode, convinced that waiting is always the more spiritual choice.
But what if sometimes God is waiting on us to make a move?
We dive into biblical examples that support both approaches. From Genesis 1:28 where God gives humans authority and initiative, to the life of Jesus who operated from a place of constant communion rather than anxious waiting.
The key isn't choosing between action or patience, but finding the balance between stewardship and surrender.

Why do so many wildly talented creative people struggle financially? The answer might not be what you expect.
Creativity isn't enough. You need clarity.
An abundance of creative ideas without the clarity to focus them can be exactly what's keeping brilliant artists, entrepreneurs, worship leaders, or visionaries broke.
The episode reveals five reasons creative people stay financially challenged despite their natural gifts.

"Pray specific prayers and you will get specific answers." This profound statement from George Mueller, a 19th-century pastor who documented over 50,000 answered prayers, has become a transformative principle for my family's faith journey.
This isn't about treating God like a cosmic vending machine. Scripture provides clear parameters. The goal isn't selfish gain but stewardship that honors God while building faith.

Faith isn't a feeling; it's the courage to move when everything around you suggests standing still.
After stepping away from a full-time worship leader position six years ago, my wife and I embarked on what would become the most challenging and faith-stretching season of our lives: creating three feature films in three years.
What followed was a masterclass in holding onto faith when provision seems delayed.
This experience fundamentally reshaped my understanding of divine provision. Heaven doesn't always meet you before you step out, and sometimes the miracle comes after you've already jumped.
For every entrepreneur and creative: What dream has God placed in your heart that seems too big? What one small step could you take today?

Join me as I share a simple shift in perspective that will challenge the negative "what ifs" that can dominate our minds.
Our world has a way of normalizing pessimism and doubt, but what if we chose to see things differently? In this episode, I discuss the subtle yet powerful influence of these negative "what if" questions on our decision-making and overall mindset. We'll look at the importance of seeking wisdom, being thoughtful, and how sometimes we lean too much towards fear rather than wisdom. Whether you're a fellow creative entrepreneur or simply someone looking to strengthen your faith, this conversation will inspire you to reframe your questions and embrace a life of faith and positive possibilities.

'Man Made, Heaven Sealed' talks about how heaven validates our small steps of faith. As we begin moving and taking action, the Holy Spirit comes and seals our choices. But free will is powerful and it is up to us to move. It's up to us to believe like a child, unburdened by past disappointments and fears. It's our weak faith, intertwined with the Holy Spirit's powerful guidance that will get us to our destination.

I sat down with my good friend Brianna Collins to discuss her creative process as a dancer, actress, and choreographer. Connect with her on Instagram and at www.greenleafstudio.org
Brianna Collins began her dance career at the age of 7 at Greenleaf Performing Arts Academy, where she instantly fell in love with movement and made the decision to never stop dancing. She graduated from Störling’s Artist Development Program, where she trained for two years under Mona Storling-Enna, Hannah Anderson, Courtney Bourman, Marc Wayne, Suzanne Ryan-Strati, and others. She has worked with choreographers Rosie Herrera, Catherine Meredith, and Victoria Marks through New Dance Partners at the Midwest Trust Center. She has enjoyed choreographed many musical theatre productions and her choreography has been performed throughout the Kansas City Area and in Germany. Brianna has been teaching ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, pointe, and modern techniques for the past 10 years, and loves every second of it. She is currently in her fourth season of dancing professionally with Störling Dance Theater in Olathe, KS and is the Artistic Director of Greenleaf Performing Arts Academy. Brianna believes that dance is one of the most full expressions of humanity and worship when pursued with a holistic mindset. She is passionate about impacting culture and creating community through the arts, and is anticipating a lifetime of exploring that mission.

When historians write about the early 2000s, there are going to be entire books devoted to musicians and artists. More than ever before, we're seeing young people, both inside and outside the Church, passionately throwing themselves into creative pursuits, specifically into music. This generation is acutely aware of the power of music, and they’re not just listening to it. They’re making it.

Justin discusses the song "I Remember" from his From Patmos musical.
Tickets for the March 18th Worldwide Premiere are on sale now: www.frompatmosfilm.com
The original musical becomes a stage film featuring Michael Maher as the Apostle John — the man who knew Jesus best during His life on earth. The show features a series of flashbacks from the Island of Patmos detailing John’s transformation from a young man with a thunderous but unfocused passion to an unmovable, unshakable Apostle of single-minded devotion. It is through the memories of this one man that the future of all mankind is revealed. Justin Rizzo’s musical storytelling debut includes a moving score of 19 original songs and a script co-written by the powerhouse tandem of Alice Larson Scott and Kelsey White. Step into the tragedy, adventure, and passion of John's story and find your own story of the taming and refining of the human heart that happens only through relationship with the God who walked among us.

God famously called David “a man after His own heart” knowing full well every failure and mistake he would commit over the next sixty years, and in that moment, God set a precedent: He wasn’t seeking perfect men or women to follow Him. His primary goal was simply that they would be “after His own heart,” or in other words, that they would abide in His love and love Him in return.

Nothing can destroy team dynamics like ungodly speech. Sarcasm and coarse joking disrupt the authentic community by hindering honest, clear communication and discouraging true relationship and vulnerability. The closer we grow as a team, the freer we feel. This is a good thing, honestly. There’s something special about being able to let your guard down with people. It is freeing to be able to share openly without worrying about being judged. But sometimes with this freedom, come some challenges. The main one is becoming too casual and indiscrete with our speech.
