• Separate background and skin into folders - naming accordingly

In this weeks episode we talk to Justin Mott an American Photographer who has been based out in Vietnam for over a decade. You can find him on instagram here and see both his personal and commercial photography ventures.

In this weeks show we talk to Owen Gale. Owen is the Photo Director at House and Garden UK and has previously worked at a number of other titles before reaching this position. He studied photography and assisted and worked as a photographer before transitioning. In the show we talk to him about his role as a photo director and what that involves. We also discuss the concept of the photo director as someone who can nurture and work with photographers to improve their output. This episode is a really enlightening chat that will hopefully peep behind the curtain at a role that is so often overlooked within the industry.

Dan Ross is a name that most London based commercial photographers will be familiar with, for many years Dan served as one the capitals top assistants, building a network of assistants around him and in doing so helping to elevate the whole industry. These years spent working for a wide range of photographers have meant that Dan has now been able to switch, and is now a very technically proficient photographer in his own right.

Unlike in the US, in the UK there are not so many full time assistants that specialise in doing solely that as a career although over the last few years that has changed a bit. We talk to Dan about the role of the assistant, how to be the best one you can be and also what not to do. He peppers that chat with some wonderful stories from his days as ‘road crew’. The chat is little cheeky in places, so discretion is advised.

Chris Floyd is a British photographer and Film maker. He is primarily known for his portrait work but his versatility means that he has put his hand to most genres throughout his long career. He’s shot for a range of editorial titles including Vogue, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Harpers Bazaar, GQ, Esquire, The New York Times Magazine along with shooting for large commercial clients and brands.

In this weeks episode we take the opportunity to talk to Chris about his experience working as a photographer over the last 27 years. We talk about the ego and the importance of leaving your ego at the door, but at the same time understanding how its role in the working environment. We discuss the politics of shoots and strategies he’s developed over the years and we also discuss areas that he feel are important to nourish if you are to find longevity in your career. Julian Love is a commercial lifestyle photographer based in London, UK. He’s represented by JSR agency in the UK and RW2 in the US. Having studied Human Sciences at Oxford and then a masters in Biological Anthropology, Julian did a short stint working in management consultancy before moving into photography in the early 2000’s. He works with a variety of international clients on global campaigns.

In this weeks show we discuss with Julian about creating personal projects and producing his own large test shoots in order to generate commercial work, often abroad. We talk about creating a portfolio of work, mistakes and lessons he’s learnt along the way and why he likes to shoot some personal work on film over digital.
