You probably view your life as either in a rut or on a role! It all depends on your daily routine!
In this episode we welcome back our old buddy Aaron Bibb to talk about the importance of our daily routines. Everyone has one, but it is important to be conscience of what ours looks like because it is producing the results it is designed to get. So, if we want different results, we need to work out an improved routine.

When do we push through to the intended goal and when does discretion advise turning back? Two questions that must come together in the life of faith: What are my goals for my life? What is God's will for my life?

Your heart, is it good or bad? Can you trust it or not? Do we follow our heart or lead it? The answer to all of these questions is, well, “Yes!’
The human heart is a complex thing. The muscle in your chest cavity is, yes, but even more so, is the core of your being, the very spirit of life within you, your most central part of your being, your heart.Resources referenced in this episode:

This week we dive headlong into the topic of fear! Fear, and how we address it in our life, is an important and relevant subject. It is healthy to ask, "What am I afraid of?" And then to ask, "How is this fear able to improve me, if I will face it?"

Life hits hard sometimes, doesn’t it? Like when your children are hurting, or your job is disappointing; or like when your country is going crazy, or when your church faces another round of, whatever! If we're honest, in those times how we really feel is, “I hate this.”
We want to run from the trials and pains and sufferings, but the way of Jesus is to embrace them and enter into them. Only in facing the adversity are we made stronger and perfected. To run from trouble is to embrace weakness.
So, how do we pass through the valley?

What is Moses praying for when he says, "Teach us to number our days (and) apply our hearts to wisdom?" It is, in truth, one of the most needful prayers and pursuits we could get in on in our day. It is necessary as leaders, as husbands and fathers, and as ministers of the gospel.

When the Bible calls us to "pray without ceasing," and "pray always," do you think, "And how can I do that? Is it even possible?" We believe the answer is "Yes," but it is another process of our growth. It is learning how we can turn our thoughts into prayers.

What is a Journal? It is a treasury of gifts from God! Words of and from Jesus, given through the Holy Spirit, tied to the scriptures, which we receive and are able to write down and keep, helping us to remember. It is a record of our journey with God!
It is really one of the most precious possessions you can have once you learn how to use it (And by the way, while there is general guidance on how-to, there is no set how-to!).
And what fascinates us the most, is how God himself keeps a journal!

We all have a rule of life, and your rule of life is working. We are becoming the sort of person our daily habits are intended to produce. This week's episode is a special edition where we feature a recorded radio program on this essential teaching of how to treasure Christ in our hearts above all else!
Jesus tells us to "lay up our treasure in heaven." Why? Because wherever our treasure is, that is where our heart will be, and ultimately, that is his greatest interest, our heart! The greatest treasure our heart can hold is the loving, valuing, and desiring of Christ above everything else. But how can we do that? What does it look like to treasure Christ above all else?

It's time for a little sabbath! A season to practice a little more of slowing the pace, shrinking the world, and shepherding the heart.
It would be almost unthinkable in our modern way to accept the strong conviction of this Psalm writer, a man who could make such a bold declaration of his faith in God and his word, "I have been faithful to your word! Lord, I now expect you to take my case and champion my cause!" How can you and I obtain and live in the same kind of boldness?

In this special extended edition episode, we just let the recorder roll for another unedited conversation between Overtrek, Easy Target, and Rollin Napoleon. As the crew gets things back on track, the trio is back together for a discussion on how we must learn to lose our life in God if we are to truly discover what our lives are about. Particularly in terms of our purpose, vocation, and our unique niche we bring to the table.
Thoreau wrote, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city you go into the desperate country and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats. A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind. There is no play in them, for this comes after work. But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things.”
A few highlights:
Purpose is where we find our identity, it is given by God. Vocation is where we serve our community, it is living in God through our work. Niche is how I do my best ministry, when I bring my unique gifting from God into my work.
Purpose is who you are. Vocation is what you do. Niche is how who you are does what you do.

Anger is a prevalent emotion in our day and one which is often misunderstood, misused, and maligned. Actually, there are times when it is right to be angry but there are also right ways to be angry. As our best model we want to look at the occasions in the scriptures when Jesus was angered. What was the cause and how did he respond?

The public schools established in the colonial era were predominately faith based and Bible centric, but clearly, we are not living in the 1700's anymore. Today, Christian parents have options to consider when it comes to the education of their children. One of those options is the Christian School, but with that comes many questions and some concerns. In this episode a number of those questions and concerns are addressed. What are the reasons for or against Christian education, public school education, or even the homeschooling option?

This week the discussion centers around why men have a difficult time forming true friendships with other men and why it is vital that we change that. Of course, we begin with a round table discussion on "Who is the best Robin Hood of all time?" So, bear with us!

Destined to become an all-time classic or the end of the C.O.D.E. Podcast forever, the entire crew is finally back together, and we were so elated we left this episode raw and unfiltered. Napoleon and Easy Target are back in the studio of the Undisclosed Location and while we had an agenda for this episode, we just sort of let the conversation flow naturally and, well, this is what you get.

In the second half of the discussion on the experience of life's problems, Mike and Corey bring the conversation to a close by settling in on how God uses the problems of life to transform us and that he never leaves us to walk through the troubles alone. The journey of suffering is about spiritual maturing in three areas: Humility, Faith and Surrender.

Have you found life to be troublesome at times? Job said it (Job 14:1), Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
So, what are we to make of the problems that seem to sometimes fill our days? Can we find some point to it all? In this episode Mike and Corey begin a dialogue on why God allows these troubles, even brings suffering into our lives at times, and how we can move from "Oh my, what in the world!?" to "OK Lord, bring on the pain!"

Something which every believer will need to wrestle with at some point is, "What is God calling me to do with my life?" Obviously, lose it for Jesus, live in and for the kingdom, but where and how? Am I to be in "full time" ministry? Is there really any other kind?
In this episode we sit down with Missionary Dallas Brown, from Burkina Faso, West Africa, and discuss how to know what and where God is calling you to serve in. If you are interested in missions, this will be an episode you don't want to miss.

In this second part to last week's episode, we continue to share some of the rich experiences of this year's Way of Holiness Conference. This week we are sharing the teaching Mike did on the role of Spiritual Disciplines in our spiritual transformation, from Saturday morning of the conference. And, back from the "Whoknowswhere" is our friend Rollin Napoleon to help introduce the lesson!

We, here at the Undisclosed Location, just wrapped up our third annual "Way of Holiness Conference," a fantastic and enriching three-day conference of learning the practice of spiritual disciplines to help us grow in holiness and wholeness.
Our theme this year was "Slow Your Pace, Shrink Your World, Shepherd Your Heart." Our primary text for the conference comes from Isaiah 35...
“The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them…And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness” (35:1,8)
We absolutely need to be men who are set on following Jesus in this Desert Way described in Isaiah 35, and the best way for us to include you in that is to share the opening of the conference, which Mike "Overtrek," had the privilege to lead on the Friday evening opening session.

In part one we waded into the subject of abortion and the proper Christian response to the overturn of Roe v. Wade. In the conclusion we go ahead and talk gun rights v. gun violence, and this strange thing called Christian Nationalism.
“Be careful,” warned Nietzsche, “lest in fighting the dragon you become the dragon.” I see the confusion of politics and religion as one of the greatest barriers to grace. C. S. Lewis once said that almost all crimes of Christian history have come about when religion is confused with politics. Politics, which always runs by the rules of ungrace, allures us to trade away grace for power, a temptation the church has often been unable to resist.” ― Philip Yancey, Christians and Politics, Uneasy Partners (2012)
All the world argues over their man, their party, their rights, etc. What we have been called to is a citizenship above the madness. A national identity and politic that fits in any place, under any government, with any group.
Can you truly say with Paul today, Phil. 3:20-21, "For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself."

This week we are joined again by Graham Glover, straight out of Gainesville, for a discussion on politics. It is a topic we do not address often, but we certainly do not avoid. The key is, as citizens of heaven and of the kingdom of God first, how are we to live in these crazy times we find ourselves in?
A headline from a couple of weeks ago asked the question, “Is the world actually falling apart, or does it just feel that way?” Good question. And the answer is multi-layered to be sure, all of which cannot be explored here and now. Though we suppose the best short answer would be “Yes, it does feel that way, and yes, there are a lot of problems that seem to be getting out of control, but, for followers of Jesus, we need not panic.”
In this first of a two-part series, we talk with Graham about the right sort of Biblical and Christlike responses we should have to some of the biggest issues of our day. In part one we talk the overturn of Roe vs. Wade and what that means for disciples of Christ in America.

C.O.D.E. Men go on mission for God! In fact, we should be learning how to live mission minded every single day. Sometimes, we actually take a team and go on a mission for the kingdom of God, and we just returned from what has been agreed by the team, to be the best mission trip we have done together. We are by no means experts, but we thought it would be helpful to have a conversation about what made this work so well. And to top it all off, we are making C.O.D.E. history by welcoming two of our C.O.D.E. wives into the studio, Charity Cantrell and Kelli Barnette, along with Nathaniel "Quiet Man" Barnette (Overtrek's son and daughter-in-law).
Hoping our experience could be a great resource for others who would like to take a team and follow Jesus into a mission, we explore together, "What made this work?"
How was God’s grace the key to success? How did you experience grace in this mission?
What did you do to help prepare individually and as a couple? And what kept you mission minded on the trip?
Successful mission minded going and serving is the result of daily mission minded living. What does that look like?

How has your summer been going so far? Are you feeling renewed or worn down? How about the family? Are you planning for some "Re-Creation" or just vacation? And what is the difference?
In this episode we look into putting together a plan to bring renewal and resilience into our summer. Jesus provides us with all the example and guidance we need to work this out, and we need to give attention to it. In part one we discuss the factors which help us determine when it is time to get some "Re-Creation." Then, we will consider all the elements of real re-creation which Jesus included in his plan.

What is resilience? It is the ability to absorb stress and affliction while being stretched, and then release that energy before permanent damage takes place. Like a rubber band bounces back into original shape after being pulled tightly in opposing directions. In more than a few ways we have all been stretched in recent times, and even moving into our summer those of us at the C.O.D.E recognize the need to practice some soul awareness and soul care to ensure we are staying resilient as men, as husbands, fathers, and followers of Christ.
In the episode the crew discusses the recent release of John Eldredge's new book Resilient: Restoring Your Weary Soul in These Turbulent Times (Thomas Nelson, 2022), and our reflections on how this great resource is helping us tap into our own soul resilience. We share some of the practices which are working as we bring our inner man back into healthy state during these chaotic days.
Renewed Perspective - seeing how soul care has helped shape a healthier view of personal growth.
Re-evaluation of Progress - the recognition that there is never a time to stop improving our foxhole, always looking for the next step of maturing.
Offering Grace to Our Unconverted Places - it is a pressure release to honestly acknowledge that we are broken but beloved sons of God.
Practicing Togetherness with Friends and Family - there is true value in the quality time spent with our spouse, our children, and our good friends.
Releasing the False Sense that we Must Fix or Fight Everything - it is good to trust God and learn when to let go of the burdens and stressors.
Realigning our Focus on the Coming Kingdom - turning the affection and attention on the coming of Jesus and his kingdom frees our soul.

We all have them, those afternoons, or days, or weeks when we feel disoriented, unproductive, easily irritable, and we just cannot seem to shake it. Especially for men who value being productive, this can feel very debilitating. So, what do you do? In this episode Overtrek and Napoleon discuss some ways to climb out of the crummy by the practice of three skills:
1) Recognition of the Situation for What It Is
2) Reorientation of the Soul with God
3) Reduction of the Clutter that is Clouding the Life

The pace of life has ramped back up, some even seem to be trying to make up for lost time, and the world is going to demand that we jump on the wheel and run with them. Jesus has another plan, and he invites us into a life that is lived deeper, more sustainable, and richer in the things that matter most.

This week the C.O.D.E. dives into the need for men to learn the discipline of reading. In particular, the foundation of spiritual reading as our reference point for viewing all that is happening in the world. It is less about mastering the truth and more about being mastered by the truth.
"Likewise, we ought to read simple and devout books as willingly as learned and profound ones. We ought not to be swayed by the authority of the writer, whether he be a great literary light or an insignificant person, but by the love of simple truth...God speaks to us in many ways without regard for persons. Our curiosity often impedes our reading of the Scriptures, when we wish to understand and mull over what we ought simply to read and pass by. If you would profit from it, therefore, read with humility, simplicity, and faith, and never seek a reputation for being learned."

“This world demands a life saturated with God, and this world is the perfect storm to prevent our souls from having it.” – John Eldredge, from Get Your Life Back (2020)
This week the C.O.D.E. crew brings a discussion on finding the simple and sustainable ways that we can live our lives saturated with the life of God. It would be a most helpful way in a world increasingly calling us away from life with God and distracting us from the most essential way we were designed to live.
Along with learning the power of speaking truth into yourself, what are some other helps when you, or someone you care about, is struggling with depression? In this conclusion to the discussion, the C.O.D.E. guys offer some practical helps from biblical source and personal experience.

We have all heard the lines about “Do you talk to yourself? Well, just start worrying when you begin to answer yourself.” Actually, one of the most helpful things we can do is to learn how to talk to ourselves. And this is found throughout scripture. Speaking truth into ourselves is a dynamic way to overcome in the battle with depression; an experience we are all familiar with.
In this first of two parts, the C.O.D.E Crew discusses the battle we all face with depression, and how we can overcome through the strength of Jesus. Along the way, enjoy a few laughs as well, after all, a merry heart doeth good like a medicine!

How do we, as disciples of Jesus, follow Jesus in his passion? What does that even mean? Why is it more than just the cross of Jesus that matters? What is it about our own cross that helps us be true followers? When we think about how Jesus suffered our minds tend to jump immediately to the cross, but actually, this whole week leading up to the cross is filled with many experiences of suffering, vexation, painful feelings and struggles against mental, emotional, and physical assault. Yet, we see Jesus, poised, powerful, and true to the mission. Join the C.O.D.E. Crew and our guest Pastor Chris Cantrell for a look at what it means to follow Jesus in his suffering.

Is it possible to be both a manly man and a godly man at the same time? Perhaps a better question is, is it possible to truly be either, without being both? In the second part of this series the C.O.D.E. guys dig into some of the reasons why men (or women) are drawn into the traps of sexual sin. Knowing why we are drawn in can help us discern how to overcome the temptations. Ultimately, it is the misplaced desire of the human heart, seeking in carnal pleasure and creature comforts what only the Creator of the human soul can satisfy.
G.K. Chesterton once wrote, "Every time a man knocks on a brothel door, he is really looking for God." The same can be said for every time a man or woman clicks on a pornographic website or indulges in on-screen fornication in movies or even reads it in printed material. Understanding this deep longing of the heart is essential to finding victory!

Overtrek has achieved the goal! Over the past year, for 52 straight weeks, he spent a minimum of one night camping outdoors. A total of 75 nights in camps over the last year, so what? A big deal? To the vast majority of people, the answer is "No." However, in this episode the C.O.D.E. crew discuss how this is a big deal for Overtrek and why that makes it a big deal for God, and why the things that matter to you matter to God.
As Christian men do we have permission to live from our heart? Is it safe to pursue desire? What about the classic warning from Jeremiah 17:9 about the desperately wicked and deceitful human heart?

This week the C.O.D.E. Crew return to the subject of prayer. One of the most oft repeated words of instruction about prayer in the Bible is also one of the most difficult for many of us to follow. Jesus told his disciples that “men ought always to pray" (Luke 18:1). Have you ever wondered, "How is that possible?" Or "That is probably for a certain class of Chrisitan leaders, or monks or something." In this episode we unpack the meaning of continuous prayer and some practical ways to make that a reality.

Deep down, Christian men want to become fruitful disciples for Jesus. There is a sense of true purpose and accomplishment that goes beyond what we can do but is found in the more essential part, of what we become. How do we do this? How do we abide in Christ and become genuinely fruitful? Our religion cannot simply be doctrinal, it must become experiential.
In this conclusion of the two-part series, Overtrek and Easy Target conclude the discussion on what it actually means to abide in Jesus and bear the sort of fruit that brings glory to God, including some practical ways to experience more of Jesus life in your every day.

Many men in the church have experienced a kind of soul fatigue when it comes to being "fruitful Christian men." Serving Christ seems to be more of a chore than a joy, and yet that is the opposite of what Jesus offered us. He promises us the fruit of joy, peace, and love. So why are we so weary and worn out from serving?
First, we need to learn what it means to abide, and then we must understand what genuine fruit bearing actually means. In this episode, part 1 of 2, the C.O.D.E Crew discuss what it means to be true branches abiding in the vine of Jesus and learning to bear genuine fruit which glorifies God.

This week the C.O.D.E. Crew is finally one again as we welcome back Dean "Rollin Napoleon" Carmichael! We are also joined by special guest and fellow C.O.D.E. Man, Noah Hooper as we discuss how we mature to the next level of Christian manhood. What are the marks of maturing and what are the necessary helps to keep growing?
The Crew identify and discuss five essentials to maturing:
Develop an Awareness: having a vision of growth (knowing where we are and where we need to get to next)
Keep the Pace: maturing is a process; slow growth is lasting growth; don't try to rush it.
Find a Father/Mentor: someone farther along who can speak growth into your life.
Bring someone else along: one sure way to grow yourself is to invest in the growth of someone coming behind you.
God has your back: He is going to finish this work of growth and maturing in your life, trust him.
Also, our first time guest gets a full initiation into what it's like to be in the studio of the "Undisclosed Location," trying to make a key point when all hecticness breaks loose! You can hear more from Noah on the podcast Taught by Grace - Trailer by Taught by Grace (anchor.fm).

Every day we wake to find our souls adrift, meaning, there is this notable distance between our inner being and God; some mornings more so than others. This week Overtrek and Easy Target discuss a strategy for starting off the New Year on a track for success. A lot of people make resolutions and struggle to maintain them. Some people have given up on the process entirely and miss the opportunity to prayerfully create a plan for growth in the New Year, many times because the process seemed doomed to fail from the offset. So, how can we set a pace to truly be successful in becoming a better version of ourselves by the end of this year?
Start with Identifying and Defining Core Values. Next, incorporate these four components of annual planning and goal setting:
Reflection
Anticipation
Preparation
Consecration

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? - Mark 8:36-37
"Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?" - Clarence Oddbody, AS2
Join the C.O.D.E. Crew for a special extended Christmas episode as we draw out key life principles from the 75 years of "It's a Wonderful Life!" And, surprise, surprise, a IAWL trivia competition between Overtrek and Rollin Napoleon!
Key Points discussed include:
The Impact of every single person's life for good or bad and how we choose to live it matters.
Unanswered prayers (desires). Sometimes when we don’t get what we wanted we might actually get what we needed.
The Fellowship of Others! Friendship, sticking together in tough times, not giving up on the people you love or the people who love you.
God’s greatest gift of life! What George was about to throw away at exactly 10:45pm on Christmas Eve! Enter Clarence Oddbody! And how we get to be the Clarence in someone else's life from time to time if we are willing.
Ah! The Christmas season is here, and that is a good and wonderful thing! Of course, you know it is about to come at you like a wave; the rush, the schedule, all of the extra the events (school, church, work, family, maybe neighborhood). Add in all of the additional errands and expenses it can bring; shopping, buying, planning, attending, being here and going there, Christmas cards, calls to make, and somehow, we are supposed to keep our sanity and stay focused on Christ!!? If we are going to not blow it we need a plan!
This week the Crew discusses a few key components to helping each of us form a plan to keep our sanity during the season and actually come out of it better than we went into it!

Is it courageous to throw off the trappings of some traditions in order to pursue a true walk with Christ or is it just plain compromise? In this second part of the discussion the Crew, along with Pastor John Chancey, discuss some examples of how traditions can become more important than truth and ways we can seek to be free of that while still respecting those who have led us and taught us in the way.

As a new generation of leaders in our churches, as well as fathers and husbands who want to raise families who will honor God, how can we navigate the shore lines of tradition and truth to a way of life that values our faith heritage and yet brings it into a modern day relevance that allows our friends and families to live the abundant life Jesus promised? In this first of a two part series the C.O.D.E. Crew is joined by Pastor John Chancey to discuss how we can truly walk in the old paths of genuine holiness while avoiding the traps of vain religion.

As we move fully into the holiday season we may find that renewed struggle between staying cheerful and hopeful while also facing a lot of stress and anxiety that the hurried and hectic season can try and demand from us. The observance of Advent is a way to push back! Advent is a time to prepare our hearts for, not only the remembrance of Christ' birth, but even more importantly, for the return of Jesus! "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel!"
Graham Glover returns to the C.O.D.E. for a discussion on Advent and for a little friendly Thanksgiving Trivia competition with Easy Target!

In this special edition episode the C.O.D.E. Crew discuss the joys, challenges, and lessons learned from the recent backpacking trip to Grayson Highlands State Park and the Mount Rogers Wilderness Area in Virginia. Even if you are not into backpacking and even if you never go to Grayson Highlands, you will benefit from the life lessons about friendship, resilience, soul care, and challenging our comfort zones; all of which were experienced and shared on the trail together!

In the heart of every true follower of Christ there is a power invested by the Holy Spirit; the power of true godliness. This power is given to us so that we might live the gospel, have power to witness for the kingdom, power to reflect the light, love, and life of Jesus Christ in a world gone utterly mad in it's darkness and despair.

In this third and final entry (for now) on the studies in the gospel of Mark, Easy Target and Overtrek discuss the life, ministry, and manner of Jesus through Mark chapters 3 and 4. Jesus had friends and companions whom he chose to share life with, but he also had a steady stream of opposition. We learn how Jesus brings balance to personal soul care while at the same time teaching his disciples and ministering to the multitudes. The discussion concludes with the amazing capacity of Jesus to remain calm in the chaos of a great storm on the sea, and of his reaction to the disciples when they are overcome by fear rather than faith.

In this second of three episodes we look at how Jesus is immediately immersed in the pressures of live and ministry in a chaotic world. As soon as he began his public ministry he is hit with temptations, spiritual warfare, the non-stop needs of others being brought to him, and still needs to practice his own soul care! How does he do it?

In this first of a three episode series Overtrek and Easy Target introduce a study through the Gospel of Mark by examining how Jesus conducted himself in the middle of the hectic pace of life, the constant push to be hurried, and the demands to perform when called upon, and all of this in the midst of a very strained and draining season the world finds itself in. As men we often feel pulled in so many directions and the sense of being fragmented and unfocused leads to feelings of discouragement and frustration. The life of Jesus, the Son of Man, reveals just how to remain Calm in the Chaos!

The movie industry is a multi-billion dollar business that, let's be honest, most of us are pretty highly invested in. We love good movies! Why is that? Are we just wasting our time or is there some redeeming value in popping some corn and gathering in the living room for a couple of hours? In this episode the Crew explores the impact of the movie medium, why we love movies, and some scriptural principles to guide our viewing.

In part 5, the crew concludes the discussion of spiritual warfare by exploring the need for allies in our fight. The questions that arise, then, are how does a genuine ally look, why is it so important to have them, and why is it so hard for men to have allies? To sum it all up, you can only have real allies through real fellowship, which is two guys in the same boat...or ship...you decide!

In part 4 the crew wraps up the discussion on "the weapons of our warfare" by looking at the example of Jesus in Mark 1. While Ephesians 6 may be the go-to scripture for spiritual armor, Jesus demonstrates the use of these weapons in real world application. There are five specific armaments he uses in the spiritual battles represented there:
1) Obedience to the Father's Will
2) The Word of God - daily renewal in the truth
3) Humility - being secure in our identity in God
4) Compassion - a heart willing to engage on behalf of others
5) Prayer - the force behind the force

In this third of a series on Spiritual Warfare the C.O.D.E. Crew introduces the discussion on "the weapons of our warfare" (2 Corinthians 10:4) with a beginning look at the characteristics and applications of these spiritual armaments. Before we grab a sword and start swinging it around recklessly we should want to know its purpose and the right way to use it.
“War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.” - J.R.R. Tolkien

In this second episode of the series on Spiritual Warfare, the Crew discusses the vital role of Kingdom Authority, the power and liberty granted by Jesus to his followers to wage war against the enemy to secure, not only our own heart, but the hearts of others. They discuss the importance of our daily walk with Christ which is the condition for accessing and using the authority. Also, how the authority is exercised in the war; i.e. for healing, edification, liberty, and combat.

Spiritual warfare is a subject that is often neglected in many Christian circles, but it is a subject that we keep getting brought back to. Struggles of the soul are very real and very hard. Our churches are full of people who know the struggles with depression, anxiety, addiction, discouragement, shame, and the list goes on. These internal fights manifest themselves in external ways; we have relationship troubles, we may be living in a lie to cover up our struggles, and we become addicted to a substance or another form of relief. It’s real, and we want to know more about how to help with those things and how to have victory in our own life and to be a help to others.
Join the C.O.D.E. Crew in this first of a series on the subject of Spiritual Warfare and how to build Battle Ready Men! In part one we discuss the need for awareness of the reality as well as the tactics of a very real adversary. In the midst of it all we are glad to have Ol' Napoleon back in the studio after his season of hibernation.

In the conclusion of the discussion on fatherhood, the Crew (minus one) and guest Pastor Chris Cantrell, discuss the meaning behind the most famous parenting passage of all, Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go..." and discuss "A Formula for Fatherhood Success: 6 Real Things to Train Your Child Up in…"

Isaiah 35:1,8, The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose…And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.
Contained within these verses is a great spiritual truth that has become lost to the modern church in America. How does the wild, desolate, sterile place become a source of gladness and blossoming of life? It is counterintuitive, as is so much of the true life of faith. The Way of Holiness is a summons, a calling out. You and I live in a world of too much noise, too much busyness, and too many demands. We are all guilty of surrendering ourselves to the false world and because we fill our time with so much of it we have so little time to be in the pursuit of a holy and rich life with God. Join Overtrek and two guests, Charlie Russell and Matthew Jones, as they discuss the recent conference which they led over three days to provide the opportunity to escape, on purpose, from the distracting world that draws us away from life with God.
In particular the following "Desert Disciplines" were learned and practiced over these days:
Solitude (Separation)
Spiritual Warfare (Suffering)
Meditation (Study)
Spiritual Healing (Restoration)

This week the Crew begins a series of discussions on being godly fathers. Welcomed into the Undisclosed Location is our own Easy Target's dad, Chris Cantrell, father of three adult children and five grandchildren, and a long time pastor who brings a balancing experience to this journey into fatherhood.
In part one the men reflect back on what they remember about their own fathers while growing up and what they all hope their own children will remember about them as dads. Drawing down on some key qualities every good (but not perfect) dad should possess:
Genuineness, Patience, Teachability, and Faith.

Join the Crew as we look back and process a little of the experience with Easy Target and Rollin Napoleon taking the interviewer roles. What was it like to summit the 12,804 ft. Middle Teton mountain? What can living in the backcountry teach you about living in the Kingdom of God? And what is a "Jorge's Versa" anyway? And what happened to Rollin Napoleon during sign offs?

This week, in the absence of Overtrek (who is away summitting mountains and immersed in back country living), the millennials take over the Undisclosed Location, Easy Target and Rollin' Napoleon discuss the challenge of finding the balance between honoring the traditions of the past, while finding the leading of Jesus for today. Is there a way to make different choices than those who have come before, and, if so, can you still properly honor the faithfulness of the lives of the saints of yesterday?
“A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
In this concluding episode on the topic of living a deeper life, the Crew shares some insights into how men can pursue deeper living and move out of the shallows. In the discussion you will hear some thoughts on...

As boys we lived deeply from the heart. We drew pictures, chased lightening bugs, climbed trees, but something has happened to that wild and passionate heart in most men. Is there a way to get it back?
It seems most men, including in the church, are ignorant of, or simply avoid living, a deep life. It is evident in their relationships, their life goals, and entertainment choices; all of it seems pretty shallow. And it is costing us.
What is a deeper life? How do we live there as men? In part one of a two part series, the C.O.D.E. Crew discuss what has helped them develop a deeper life within their own souls, with God, and ultimately with others.

The C.O.D.E. Crew shares, in round table fashion, some of the daily practices that have helped keep the soul nourished over the last couple of months. Given the heavy times we all live in and the barrage of negativity that seems to relentlessly come our way, we are going to need to practice soul care to stay strong. Given four qualifiers:
1) Simple practices that are sustainable.
2) Solitude practices that bring us out of the distractions to a focus on God.
3) Strengthening practices, that is, things which actually make the soul stronger and do not drain us.
4) Separation practices which helps us distance from the images, messages, noise, ideas, and attitudes of the world.
In the second half of the interview with Graham Glover the Crew dives a little deeper into politics, leaders who inspire, and even a Tebow sighting (or hearing)! Also, perhaps Chaplain/Pastor Glover has even been inspired to write his first book, "The Art of Compromise from the Trenches of the Unmoved."
In this first of a two part series the C.O.D.E. Crew welcomes Graham Glover to the Undisclosed Location for a discussion on what it takes to live out the dream of your heart and find the path to true success by the standard of God's word. What do you love and can you make a life and living doing it? We discuss how success is never a solo journey, we need others to help us make it.
Graham is a 13 year U.S. Army Chaplain, a Luther Church Missouri Synod Pastor, and currently serves as the Public Information Officer for the Gainesville, FL Police Department. He is a Graduate of the University of Florida with a BA in Religion/Religious Studies as well as an MA in Political Science and Government. He earned his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary in St Louis, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Political Science and Government from the University of Florida.
The Crew and Chaplain Glover talk faith, politics, and following God in the pursuit of living out the dreams of the heart. What does it take for a man to find that path and do what he was meant to do? Among other things we discuss:
Having a Desire of Your Heart you can identify
Hearing the Voice of God as He directs you.
Heeding the Counsel of Others who speak truth into your life
In this episode, the conclusion of the series, the Crew tackles the wacky world of Christian Nationalism. How is it defined? Can Christians be patriotic without being nationalists? What are the theological issues with this ideology? Finally, what is the proper Christian response to this movement?
"We've never done it that way." "Don't remove the ancient landmarks!" If you have been in church leadership for very long you have heard these lines and many more like them. Even as we continue to hear of the decline in church participation and the decreasing percentage of our population who profess to be followers of Christ there is a deep entrenchment in tradition that chokes the potential new life out of our churches. As men of this generation is there a way to be proactive, biblically sound leaders and yet implement healthy, life provoking change?
The C.O.D.E. Crew discusses some of the symptoms of this looming "death" and some solutions that can be enacted by courageous men with biblical convictions and not just vain traditions or preferences.
In a time when even churches, preachers, and ministries are so utterly focused on "Likes," "Retweets," and "Follows," how can true disciples of Jesus avoid the lure of celebrity culture and truly stay focused on following Jesus and promoting him rather than self? We have some great examples in scripture (John the Baptist, Paul) and we have some great examples in modern Christianity (i.e. Billy Graham), hopefully we can be the same kind of examples in our own local fellowships.
In this first of a series of discussions on the topic, the C.O.D.E. Crew opens the talks about the issues threatening the vitality of a Christ-centered, kingdom focused church in our modern times, particularly in western church culture.
Christian Celebrity Culture
Denominational Traditionalism
Christian Nationalism
In this first of the series the crew identifies what Christian Celebrity Culture is and sets the stage for the next episode in which resolutions will be sought to help men whose hearts are set on God to avoid the snares and stay the course. Finally, after all this time Napoleon can't remember how to end a podcast?!
The crew concludes this discussion on how to bring the multiple generations together by emphasizing the central focal point of the "generationless" and unchanging God (His truth and dominion). There are also some key points of integration, certain action steps which can be taken to unite men from each generation into a common cause:
Round table discussion
Generational Integration in life groups
Mentorship and Initiation which connects older men with younger men.
There are five generations of people living and working together in our culture, churches, and communities. Often the different philosophies, life experiences and cultural trends can create generational tension. This can result in older generations missing out on the fresh vision and insight the younger guys bring to the table and the younger generation dismissing the older men as irrelevant in a new day. We need all generations at the same table if we are going to build true men in this desperate age.
In this series wrap up of "The Genesis of the C.O.D.E." the crew takes on Earth Day, exercising dominion, and the irreplaceable role of the woman in the man's life.
In this special episode of the C.O.D.E. of Man the crew of the C.O.D.E. welcomes our first guest of the season, Jeremiah Stringer of The Backpacking Podcast and Jeremiah Stringer Hikes (see links below). We cover a wide variety of topics but what made this interview so good (to the point of interrupting our series on The Genesis of the C.O.D.E.) is that Jeremiah offers some profound and practical insight on what it means to pursue your dreams, live life with passion, and, to the point of our recent discussions, bear out the Divine image in our lives as men. Yes, we agree, Jeremiah is the smartest, best looking, toughest, and sweetest guest ever! You figure it out "Dear listener!"

Two questions frame this discussion based out of Genesis 2, "When did you know you had become a man?" and "What does 'Being a man' really mean?" The C.O.D.E. Crew continues the unlocking of the masculine image in the origin of man's creation by God. Is manhood more than toys, trucks, and treasures? Who can really say "I am a man" or "There goes a real man," and how can young men find that path to maturity?
In this episode the Crew finishes the discussion on the role of a man's work as a means of bearing the image of God in his life. What about the man who feels stuck in a job he hates? Or the man who is near retirement but looking back on 20-30 years of life and thinking he may have wasted it?
Also, was Easy Target having an off day at the control board? Some days are just like that.
The Crew continues the discussion of how men bear the Divine image and likeness in our God ordained roles. In this episode our role as stewards, how we bear God's image in our work, is talked over and examined. We each have gifts, passions, and callings that we are to seek out and honor God in.
In this episode the C.O.D.E. Crew introduces a series of podcasts on what it means for a man to be made in the image and likeness of God and how we are to live that out in some key roles we have been called and equipped for.
The Crew wraps up the discussion on the need to escape modern culture's soul killing ways by getting back into the wild life God created us for. What are the tangible benefits of getting into the wilderness? How does this really benefit a man's soul?
The C.O.D.E. Crew is back! Overtrek, Easy Target, and Rollin' Napoleon kick off the second season with the first of a two part discussion on the soul's need to escape the madness of modern culture by getting back out into the wild where a reconnection of heart with God can happen. Our modern culture is described in Psalm 55 by King David as a soul killing, spiritual life draining place where violence, strife, wickedness, and guile surround us. This is hard on the soul because of the world's constant demand to hurry up, the divisive attitudes, and the manufactured pleasures and purposes being hurled at us. Where is this leading? We have got to find a way out and back to God!
The final "off season" episode is a teaser for the upcoming Season 2, as Overtrek is reunited with the crew for a few laughs over old times and looking ahead to what is coming on March 4th.
As men we are called to be leaders and when we bear the image of God in our masculine soul we help others become better. Influencing others to be their best and bringing glory to God is what leadership is about. In this off season episode Overtrek shares a few principles gleaned from family, ministry, and military life that can help each of us become better leaders in the home, on the job, and in our churches.
Not every man is looking for a "shredded chest" or arms like the Mighty Thor, but most of us would like to be in good physical condition so that we have the best chance of living out the maximum potential of our daily lives. In this off season episode Overtrek offers a few practical tips that every man can put into practice to better condition his body.
In this Season 1.5 episode Overtrek previews a few of the plans for Season 2 episodes and then we get the best of the Season 1 Outtakes featuring some of the 2020 guests and of course the resident C.O.D.E. Comedian, Rollin Napoleon!
In this special edition podcast of the Off Season 1.5 Overtrek shares the content of a Weekly C.O.D.E. Talk email in which he wrote about some simple, practical approaches to healthier nutrition. These are a handful of guidelines that anyone can learn to apply and which will help anyone to reach their health goals.
In this special crossover episode Overtrek and Easy Target share a discussion recorded for their local church radio program in which they discuss the heart of man; how it is central, how the health of the heart determines spiritual growth, and the importance of connecting our heart with God's heart daily. Also, the answer to the greatest social media buzz, the question burning up the internet, "What happened to Easy Target?" is answered!
In the first of our off season episodes (where we will feature our most listened to or most responded to podcasts of 2020) we journey back to the near beginning of both our podcasting and the COVID Pandemic. Pastor Gary Blaylock joined Overtrek and Easy Target for a discussion on what we could do to sustain our hearts and that of our families during the uncertain times. You will find some helpful reminders from this one.
A bonus episode with a special introduction by Overtrek which includes not only outtakes from Episode 37 but additional material recorded in which the crew discusses celebrating New Years!
It's New Year's Eve and the week of "Christmastide!" This can be a week of wonderful goodness and it can also be a challenging week of moving from the holidays back to "the grind." The C.O.D.E. Crew offer some insights from that first "After Christmas" week in scripture to help you navigate this meaningful week! Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
The joyful spirit of the season abounds as the C.O.D.E. Crew explore the meaning behind the old carol "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and what the men of the Christmas story can teach us about celebrating the holiday.
