What inspires a movement and how does it grow into something bigger than an idea? In this episode, I share my conviction about the heart of your work as an artist.
- The heart of your work is the essence of your spirit
- It is separate from any context that it exists in like a gallery
- It is pure expression
- When you start holding yourself back because you wonder what people will think of you in the art world, remember that you are depriving the universe of your full expression by holding back!
- Practice envisioning yourself as the center of the art world. And everything you do causes ripple effects. You are the tastemaker, you are the one who sets the standard, you are the one who stars the trends and fearlessly is expressing herself. What if YOU are the star already, because you already are?
Express the heart of your work because it is your mission to do so! And those who are meant to work with you will be naturally drawn in.

Germination - the spark of an idea. Usually this comes when you’re not thinking about art.

Inspiration- you start planning. Sketchbooks, start planning logistics, how can I do this? Is it possible?

Creation- the physical act of creation. An outpouring of energy. Action, sweat, physicality, the molding of something in the 3d reality. It’s the touch of each paintbrush stroke, the application of the gold or silver leaf, the sanding and the polishing.

Rest—Your body needs rest, your mind needs rest. Just like the seasons, we have to fall back and gather our strength, refresh and rest before pouring out of ourselves in creativity again. So, how can we lean into this so that our art production flows better?

Recognize our natural need for cycles and identify where you are at in the creation cycle. Set a milestone for yourself to work towards in your creation, like a show or a contest or a open studio, and start going through the cycles to lean into that goal!
- Allow your ideas to form fully before execution, and approach your creation season with purpose and precision.
- Allow yourself to rest without guilt, knowing it is a necessary part of the path!

In this episode, podcast host, artist, curator and coach Jessica Libor speaks about five ways you can turn your studio into a sacred sanctuary! Here are Jessica's top 5 ways to create a sacred studio sanctuary:
- Make it comfortable (heating/cooling, comfy rugs)
- Bring in inspiration (bring nature inside! Hang or post pictures by your favorite artists, favorite inspiring quotes, favorite colors, rocks, crystals, flowers.)
- Remove distractions: try leaving your phone outside your studio or on the other side of the room, and try to make it in a separate part of the house.
- Create a daily studio ritual. Say a prayer or intention before you begin. Set out your paints. Create your own ritual!
- Take out any art you’ve created you no longer resonate with, dislike or aren’t proud of. This drags down your energy into the past and makes you feel heavy. Store it somewhere else, or give it away. You want to live from your future, NOT your past. This gives you a fresh, clear energy where you can actually see your highest work and move forward!

Marketing and artists have a love-hate relationship. But what if it didn’t need to be this way?
Artists go into art because they want to paint, to create, to be in flow, to fall in love with their subject matter and materials, to be moved. They do not go into art to become a master marketer, be tied to email and promotional schemes, be constantly brainstorming new content, or thinking of new ways to meet collectors. The marketing that an artist inevitably becomes sucked into once they decide to be a professional artist can be soul-sucking and quite frankly, derail their artistic work in an endless hamster wheel of content creation and empty promotion. Because if all of your time is spent marketing, where is the art? All of the artist’s energy has gone to the external, seductive lure of more exposure.
What if the solution is simply your essence?
Opportunities, collectors and opportunities are drawn to who you are as a person and an artist. The qualities you hold are inherent within you—the color of your soul cannot be replicated. What if you focused more on BEING your highest expression of self and sharing that…rather than running to keep up with the more, more, more demand of marketing.
What if you came at it from underneath, from deep within your soul, knowing that every time you share of yourself, wether it is an email, a sketch, a phrase….it is a sacred gift to your community. It is special. This knowledge and different way of looking at it will move you to speak and create, to ‘market’ differently, and will cut through the noise.

I was at the beach this week, meditating in the gorgeous sun and watching the light scatter diamonds all over the water as it rolled in. As I watched the waves crash upon the shore, I was thinking about how I had sold several thousands worth of dollars that weekend in art sales, and how the energy of the waves as they drew closer to the shore, and then finally crash, is very similar to manifesting anything (and in particular my art sales that weekend!)
You see, if there was no energetic buildup of the wave, there would be no ultimate point where it curls and crashes on the sand, fulfilling its destiny. But that wave started far, far out to sea, as a movement under the water that was imperceptible. As the molecules of the water moved against each other, transferring the energy and forming the wave, that energy gradually built up to the point of eventually being seen, and then finally materializing as it curled and crashed beautifully before my eyes.

Kathrine is an artist in the classical realist style based in the Philadelphia, PA area specializing in painting flowers. Originally from CA, Kathryn has studied in Paris and many other incredible places to hone her skills. In this episode, we discuss being a realist artist in Paris, finding a subject matter that resonates, creating a show, and so much more.
For Every Petal, Kathryn writes:
Every petal is from here, each flower grown either in my own garden or my local flower farm, and each is painted in its own season. The hellebore in late winter, the daffodils in spring, the dahlias in fall. It matters that I paint them when its their time.
Every petal is painted individually, one after the other, starting in the center and worked out in a mysterious order. Sometimes I start in the light, other times in the shadows, but always following the movement of the petals.
Every petal is one moment, but when I paint so many of them I get to paint different moments. I watch every flower unfurl, open; the petals grow, change color; the colors are richer, they turn lighter, they soften. It is a portrait of not just one moment, one expression, one flower, but all of them I have had the chance to be with, and all the ones I cannot paint, have never seen.
Every petal is beautiful, by my definition of beauty, which is not absolute but personal to everyone. To me, they are beautiful not just because they look pretty, but because of their strength, their hardness their tight curling and then their slow melting into relaxed openness.
Every petal is a subject, not an object. I try and capture each flower as it shows itself to me, but I don’t get to say what a tulip or sweet pea or magnolia is or isn’t; they are all different, they are all the same. No matter how many I paint, every flower surprises me.
Every petal is a conversation: with my friends, with philosophers and art historians, and with all the women before me who could only paint flowers, who were rejected and excluded from the spaces others deemed Art. Within these relationships, I have created my own space and my own voice.

In this episode, artist and podcast host Jessica Libor speaks with the founder of the Lunar Codex, Samuel Peralta, about his groundbreaking project that will be sending female artist's work to the moon for the first time in history.
The Lunar Codex is that dream realized, a collection of works from thousands of artists across the globe, launched in three time capsules to the Moon. The U.S.'s National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has a plan, the Artemis Program, to land humans back on the Moon in 2025, for the first time in over 50 years. In preparation, NASA will send scientific instruments to the Moon, over 2022 to 2024, via Commercial Lunar Payload Service (CLPS) partners, such as Astrobotic Technologies and Intuitive Machines. Their lunar landers will launch as payloads of commercial rocket platforms by the United Launch Alliance (ULA) or SpaceX. Along with NASA instruments, these missions will carry commercial payloads, including the time capsules that make up The Lunar Codex.

This episode is a special treat as Jessica Libor chats with Kara Lysandra Ross, the Co-Chair and Chief Operating Officer of the Art Renewal Center. Jessica interviews Kara at the opening of the 15th International Arc Salon Exhibition which was hosted at Sotheby’s, New York, NY. The Art Renewal Center, or ARC for short, is a 501c3 nonprofit, educational foundation, and hosts the largest online museum dedicated to representational art. The Art Renewal Center is the foremost and only vetting service for representational art schools, ensuring that the teaching curricula and quality of teacher and student work meet their strict standards to become ARC Approved™. The Art Renewal Center also runs the ARC Salon Competition, which is the largest and most prestigious competition in the world for realist artists painting, sculpting and drawing today with eleven categories and thousands of works competing, culminating in a traveling live exhibition of many of the winning works. The Art Renewal Center works with other ARC Allied Organizations™, artist groups, museums, and publications to become a central news hub for the 21st Century Representational Art Movement.
The 15th International Arc Salon Exhibition which is currently hosted at Sotheby’s, New York, NY.
Sotheby’s is free and open to the public during regular business hours, and they have beautiful galleries that you can walk through, so don’t hesitate to visit if you’re in the area. Founder of the Artist Advisory, Marina Press Granger has nearly 15 years of experience working in the New York City art world. Welcome to the Inspired Painter Podcast! In today's episode, I interview artist and pigment maker Tanya Val. Tanya is Alaska based abstract painter and florist who is inspired by nature’s warmth, adventures and all the good feels! Her artwork explores themes of individuality, freedom and sustainability with the use of warm tones, expressive brush strokes and layered textures. Her artistic approach is purely intuitive with little to no planning, allowing me to experiment and develop each piece based on feeling and emotion of the moment. Tanya is also a photographer and floral designer, and her floral work takes an artistic approach, allowing her to paint with flowers. Her style is wild and romantic while taking in nature as a guide in illustrating the most organic beauty and its feeling.
Tanya makes all of her own plant pigments by foraging in her home wilderness in Alaska and hand-creating each dye and pigment. I found this so fascinating, and join us today as Tanya walks us through the inspiration for her work and the process she uses to create her own pigments—even giving us a recipe to try one on our own!
