Ann McGlynn is executive director of Tapestry Farms, a nonprofit urban farm system that invests in refugees. She grew up on a family farm in Clinton County, Iowa. After a career in journalism and communications, she founded Tapestry Farms after meeting a refugee family from Democratic Republic of Congo. She lives in Davenport with her spouse, two young-adult children, and cat.

Host Ann Garton welcomes Lynne Miller, Kamie Montoya and Angela Kight to discuss brain health in school age children on this edition of the "Institute For Person-Centered Care Podcast."
Lynne Miller is currently the Training/Burnout Specialist at Vera French Community Mental Health Center. Lynne has been employed at Vera French (VF) for 12 years and works with adults with chronic mental illness at the VF residential facilities and VF Habilitation Group Homes. She also works with children who are experiencing some kind of grief, loss or trauma at VF Rick’s House of Hope. Rick’s House of Hope’s mission is to ensure the needs of children who are experiencing grief, loss or trauma are not overlooked.
Prior to working at Vera French, Lynne worked for Bettendorf Community Schools in the Elementary Special Education Department with children with mental health challenges. She has also worked at Wittenmyer Youth Center, which is a residential treatment center for youth who were adjudicated by the courts as children in need of assistance or delinquency. Lynne is a graduate of the University of Iowa as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Lynne believes it takes a village to raise children to be resilient and healthy.
Kamie Montoya is currently a Principal at Jefferson Elementary in the Davenport Community School District. She was born and raised in Davenport and a product of the Davenport Community Schools. During her educational experience at Kirkwood Community College she decided she wanted to go into education to help change the lives of children and shape our future. Kamie is an alumni of The University of Iowa with degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education – Multi-Categorical Resource. She worked at an after school program for at risk youth with extreme behavior disorders and found her life's calling through helping those children. She volunteered at Tanager Place in Cedar Rapids and confirmed her love for working with at risk youth.
Right out of college, she went on to become a 6-8 Special Education Teacher at Smart Intermediate School. After serving in that position for several years, she went on to teach 6th Grade Language Arts. During this time she went back to school to obtain her Master's Degree in Teaching and Leadership from St. Ambrose University all while coaching volleyball and basketball each year. She then went on to become a crisis interventionist, instructional coach, and then SAM (School Administrative Manager) at Smart Intermediate School. She then realized she wanted to do more and hoped to help larger number of kids in our community so she went back to get a second Master's Degree in Administration and Special Education Supervision from St. Xavier University.
Mrs. Montoya is also The Vice President of Philanthropy for The Batting for Kids Non- Profit Organization as she has a wonderful group of friends that has decided to put their time and effort to the cause that is near and dear to her heart- helping the kids and families in our community - one family- one generation at a time!
Angela Kight is currently a Peer Support Supervisor with Vera French’s Integrated Health Program. Angela was born and raised in the QCA and is glad to support accessibility of quality care and services. Her Bachelor of Science in Health Services and current role allows her to implement and support the philosophy of applying services in treating the whole person.

Host Ann Garton welcomes Lindsay Hohertz, a Licensed Master's Social Worker, who is with the St. Ambrose University Counseling Center. Lindsay's primary focus with St. Ambrose is mental health outreach and prevention, but also sees students individually for brief therapy. Lindsay is also a part-time therapist in private practice with an agency in Davenport and works with individuals age 5-adult. Lindsay's previous work experience includes social work in K-12 school districts, crisis counseling, work with foster and adoptive families, and hospice settings.

This edition of "The Institute For Person-Centered Care Podcast" showcases the St. Ambrose University Peace Corps Prep Program. Host Ann Garton welcomes Kate Horberg, Program Coordinator for the Master of Public Health program at St. Ambrose University. Kate worked as a Community Health Volunteer in the United States Peace Corps, serving in Cameroon, Africa. Her direct public health practice in Cameroon focused on HIV prevention, maternal and child health, malaria, and nutrition. Kate holds a master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Language, Culture and Education and TESOL Certification from Western Illinois University.
We also welcome Duk Kim, PhD, a Professor in St. Ambrose University’s Political Science Department. He teaches political science and international studies focusing on methodological approaches to examine post-conflict management roles of the United Nations and humanitarian NGOs for war-torn societies. Dr. Kim is coordinator for SAU’s Peace Corps Prep program which offers an academic partnered certificate to build the skills one needs to positively impact through volunteering. Dr. Kim serves as President of the World Affairs Council of the Quad Cities.

She spent the bulk of that time working with middle and high school students experiencing emotional and behavioral disorders, as well as those with specific learning disabilities. In her current role as The Project of the Quad Cities' fundraising and community relations coordinator, Viminda’s passion for education and social justice work comes together and allows for her to meet with folks and share the important work TPQC is doing in the Quad Cities while pushing for equality and providing the community access to resources. Viminda is a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community and resided in Matherville, Illinois, with her wife, Meghan, and their daughter, Zoey.

Through it all, Rusty witnessed the love and support of great friends and family. He realized not everyone had that though and went on to start One Eighty. The organization includes various enterprises and outreaches that impact thousands of people each month. He has written three books including an Amazon bestseller and is the host of a podcast called "Sixth & Marquette".

In her capacity as clinical director, she provides clinical and administrative oversight to a team of over 30 mental health professionals while developing programming to serve the mental health needs of Quad City residents.
𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭: Paula Vandervelde, former Trauma-Informed Care Coordinator for the Child Abuse Council of the Quad Cities
𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭: Paula Vandervelde served most recently as the Trauma-Informed Care Coordinator for the Child Abuse Council. She worked to reduce and prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences and to eliminate child abuse. In this role, she coordinated the Quad Cities Area Trauma-Informed Consortium, which leads work to create a community full of Trauma-Informed policies, programs, and practices with the hope that this can help Quad Citians form meaningful relationships with their community rather than adversarial ones.

𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭: In 2011, Tanya, along with fellow rowers, founded The Y Quad Cities Adaptive Rowing Program. Tanya received her Bachelor of Psychology in 2005 and her Masters of Occupational Therapy in 2006 from St. Ambrose University. She currently works for Doctors of Physical Therapy as an onsite Occupational Therapist (OT) in an Industrial Setting where her primary focus is injury prevention. Prior to being an onsite therapist for Industry. Tanya worked in Acute Care and Skilled Nursing settings for a combination of 14 years of experience as an OT. She was also previously an adjunct professor at St. Ambrose, teaching a special topics class about Adaptive Rowing.

𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭: Shane is a Quad Cities native and UTHS alum. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy, completing a Mediterranean cruise in 2001 and a WestPac cruise in 2003. In 2017, Shane joined the Department of Veteran Affairs and is currently an Outreach Program Specialist. In his spare time, you will find Shane staying busy with his wife and three children who are very active in their school marching bands and Show Choir. They also love the outdoors - whether it be fishing, bike riding, going for a walk, or spending time in the hosta garden, with over 40 different varieties!
𝐆𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭: Caitilin Harbecke, LISW, Veterans Affairs Suicide Prevention Outreach & Education Specialist
𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭: Caiti is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who has worked with a variety of different populations, including children, individuals with disabilities, and older adults. She graduated from Augustana College with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She completed her education with a Masters of Social Work from the University of Iowa. Caiti has served as a member of the Iowa City VA Health Care System’s comprehensive Suicide Prevention Program for over five years. She began as a crisis intervention therapist assisting and supporting veterans who were identified as being at acute risk for suicide. She now focuses on outreach and education to provide support and educate community partners across Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois on suicide prevention and the VA’s efforts to provide a more public health approach to reducing veteran suicide.
