On the 1st of April 2020 English National Ballet was due to premier “Creature” by Akram Khan with an original score by myself.
It goes without saying that due to the current Covid19 pandemic the performances have been postponed and the final period of creation frozen. It is the right and only thing to do, to protect everyone’s life and respect the ones more heavily affected by the situation. But it comes with a sense of regret, for not being able to connect with you through what we have created.
It is with the desire of connection that together with Akram and ENB we have decided to release one of the tracks I composed for the ballet accompanied by a short film by Maxime Dos.
When I landed upon this hymn by St. Thomas Aquinas, it was clear that I found the right words to express both the emotional journey of our “Creature” and my feelings around the present global crisis.
I truly believe that this surreal experience, if accepted with an open heart, could reveal a treasure for our humanity; a chance to shed our old skin and embrace a new way of living.
I hope that this music and these images may resonate with you and make us feel a little closer.

During the last few years a new and different kind of music started to emerge in my compositions. Fragments of minimalistic and obscure sounds were progressively breaking through the sonically dense scores and I found myself falling in love with the emptiness and fragility of this sparse music.
Embryo is my first work that digs deeper into this bare space, committing to the silence between the notes and the abstraction of the melodies.
It is my own pilgrimage where the sound becomes still and nothing and everything unite.
