Hey there,
Welcome back to Single Guy Saving Money.
This is the third podcast episode.
It's time to take the next major step in managing your finances.
You have to know how much you are actually spending and earning.
WARNING- This is going to be a lot of work.
To improve your finances, you have to put in the work.
Don't BS or short cut your way through this assignment.
I recommend you reading the blog post that I wrote that corresponds to this episode.
It shares with you thorough and detailed information.
Click the link below to read it.
http://singleguysavingmoney.com/2019/05/09/how-to-figure-out-what-youre-earning-and-spending/
You will need the following items:
-Spiral or composition notebook
-12 months worth of bank and credit card statements
-Calculator
-Pencil
-Copy of recent pay stub (if you get paid the same net amount each payroll)
The first things we must do is to figure out what your income is each month (on average).
If you get paid the same net amount each payroll, get a copy of your most recent stub or check your online bank account to look for the last deposit amount that came from your workplace.
Multiply that number by how many times you get paid per month.
If you get paid once a month, you will multiply by 1.
If you get paid twice a month, multiply by 2.
If you get paid weekly, multiply by 4.
If you get paid hourly, commission, or as a contractor, click on the link below by Dave Ramsey to help figure out your income and expenses.
https://www.daveramsey.com/blog/how-to-budget-an-irregular-income
If you get paid the same gross amount but different commission and bonus amounts each time, get a payroll professional that works with your employer to get you a sample stub that just has a net amount for your normal gross salary amount.
I don't want you getting the wrong number for your income.
Once you have your monthly income amount, write it down on the first sheet in your notebook paper and circle it.
Don't forget to write "Income" on that page.
The next part is going to be a pain in the rear.
It's time to figure out your expenses for the past 12 months.
Get all your bank and credit card statements together for the past 12 months.
Go through each debit and credit charge and code it to the proper expense category.
Once that is done, put each debit and credit card charge to it's proper expense category page in your notebook.
This will start on page 2 of your notebook.
Once all transactions are in their expense category page, total up the numbers on each expense page and divide each total by 12.
Write down what you calculate on the corner of each expense category page.
This gives you an idea on how much you have spent in each category for a month.
Find a clean sheet of paper in your notebook.
Write "Income" on the first line (underlined) and the number you got for that on the first page underneath.
Below that, write down "Expenses" and underline that.
Write down each expense category that has been used for the past year and write the average totals you got for each category beside each expense.
Total up all of your expense categories for your total expenses.
Subtract your total expenses from your income amount.
If expenses are more than income, you need a money makeover.
This assignment will show you where your money is going each month.
This will guide you on creating your first budget.

Hey there,
The first step to saving money for a better financial future as a single person is to take a look at your current financial situation.
The exercise on this episode will help you do that.
You can't make your financial situation better, if you aren't aware of it.
You might not have anyone to help you out with your personal finances in your life.
Most people in your life are probably busy dealing with their own lives.
The signs I'm sharing with you will help determine if you need a money makeover or not.
Here they are:
-You can buy what you want, but can't afford to pay for what you need.
-You are behind on paying your bills.
-You are borrowing money or begging for money from other people to pay bills.
-You take out loans or using credit cards to cover needs but not pay back what you owe.
-You spend more than what you're earning.
-You feel like you live paycheck to paycheck.
-You have less than $1,000 in all bank accounts and don't have money to cover an emergency.
-You are just making minimum payments on debt.
-You spend money to get other people to like you.
-You spend money to cope with inner psychological issues.
-You stress out about money frequently.
-You have a hobby that is costing you tons of money.
-You go on vacations frequently but still have little to no money.
If you fall in one of these situations, don't shoot yourself in the foot or jump off the bridge.
It's time to take action through a Money Makeover.
I will be helping you out with this over the next several posts.
WARNING: It's going to be a lot of work.
You have to put in the work to improve your financial situation.
Message me if you are worried to death or stressing out about your finances.
I want to help you out the best that I can.

Hey there,
Thank You for listening to the first episode of the Single Guy Saving Money Podcast.
This podcast will discuss my journey as a single guy saving money to help other single people save money.
I want to help other single people that live on their own and don't have kids save money.
Why single people that live on their own with no kids?
They don't have the same financial issues and benefits as married people and people with kids do.
Single people have more freedom to spend their money as they please.
For example, they don't have to worry about supporting a family.
This might sound great and all, but it can lead to some issues.
If they did not get a good financial education, they might not have their financial priorities straight.
It can lead to serious issues down the road.
They also might not have the accountability that someone who is married has.
I want to be the accountability friend they need with their finances.
What gives me the right to help single people with their finances?
I'm a single person myself.
I have lived on my own for almost 7 years now.
I was horrible with finances at first.
I would go on spending sprees and live paycheck to paycheck.
Once I started getting less income coming in, I had to get serious about my finances.
A lot changed...
I paid of $7,000 in student loan debt in 14 months.
I had $10,000 in emergency and sinking funds until it all got taken away from that scam.
Thankfully, I quickly recovered.
I got my $1,000 starter emergency fund back in place.
I have no debt besides my mortgage.
I don't consider that as major debt, because there's more equity in the house than there is debt.
I'm mainly focused on saving up $15,000 for a 1 year emergency fund.
I'm also a certified credit counselor through NACCC.
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology which helps me understand single people and their actions, thoughts, feelings and behaviors on money.
It's time to put my degree into action.
What will this podcast discuss?
-How to manage money
-Ways to save money
-What I'm going through in my financial journey to inspire you in your journey

-How to unethically save money
When will new episodes air?

If you're a single person that struggles with saving money, I recommend that you subscribe to this podcast to learn how to save money.
I don't want you making the same mistakes I've made with money.
Let me know if there is anything you would like for me to discuss on the podcast.
