Brittany and Jacques Van Wyk recently recognized that children in Pecos, New Mexico needed some help to insure they had food available for their weekends. Like many school districts in New Mexico the Pecos Schools provide breakfast and lunch for many students during the school week, but on the weekends many children do not have anything to eat. Brittany contacted Tracy Rodden, the Executive Director of Feed New Mexico kids, and today they are providing food and supporting families in the Pecos area. Like many school districts throughout New Mexico, they can use some additional financial support to buy food, and volunteers to help pack and distribute the food. Gospel Tract Society provides the word of God and the Gospel in the form of Gospel tracts that can easily be given to anyone. Through this ministry, many have come to know of the love and grace of Jesus. The ministry was founded in 1926 by Lester Buttram, whose family still runs the ministry to this day. Lester had a vision to take the gospel to the corners of the earth using printing technology. Through a series of providential events, the Gospel Tract Society was formed and has since grown.

Samaritan’s Purse mobilizes staff and equipment and enlists thousands of volunteers to provide emergency aid to victims of tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and other natural disasters in the United States.
Disaster Relief teams are now in Central New Mexico where multiple wildfires have consumed over 25,000 acres and, sadly, left two people dead. We are focusing our efforts on the town of Ruidoso, located between the Salt and South Fork fires. The latter alone has devastated 17,000 acres and 1,400 structures, over half of which are homes.

Shelley Repp is the Executive Director of the NM Dream Center (NMDC), a non-profit organization fighting to eliminate human trafficking in New Mexico. According to the NMDC, there are over 40 million people who are living in some form of modern-day slavery around the world. Women and young girls account for 71% of all modern-day slavery victims. Children make up 25% and account for 10 million of all victims of slavery worldwide. In this episode Shelley opens our eyes to minor domestic sex trafficking in New Mexico. They follow the 4 step journey found in Nehemiah chapters 1-3 to lead the Church of Christ to repentance and obedience in order to “rebuild the walls”in our cities. This is practically played out when a church Adopts a Week and walks through the 4 steps of Hear, Pray, Go, and Connect.
“Adoption Weeks” take place Sunday through Saturday. On Sunday, the pastor gives a message on Life and gives a call to action for his people to pray and fast on Wednesday, and then to participate in a peaceful prayer walk at their local abortion clinic on Saturday. The last element of the prayer walk gives participants an opportunity to say “yes” to ongoing ministry around the issue of abortion.

Feed New Mexico Kids Executive Director, Tracy Rodden describes the sick feeling and sadness she experienced as a child when she had to go days without food. She directs our thoughts to school aged children 5-18 years of age who are food insecure, and she challenges our listeners to think about the lives of these students, and how they will grow up if we help them now! Feed New Mexico Kids is a non-profit organization providing food for children on the weekends. Many school Districts around the country provide breakfast and lunch for students during the school week, but many students have nothing to eat on the weekends! Tracy explains how easy it is for churches and businesses to “adopt” a neighborhood school and help provide food for children on the weekends. The inmates there were hungry for Biblical truth and were looking for tools to grow in their faith. From that initial visit grew what is now known as Lifeline Global.
Lifeline Global Ministries works to restore and equip incarcerated men and women to become godly parents so that the generational cycle of incarceration can be broken.

The Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is the world’s premier balloon museum facility dedicated to the art, culture, science, history, sport and spectacle of ballooning. A Peaceful Habitation aims to love and mentor participants in Christian principles that will empower, encourage and enlighten women in transition from incarceration to their families and communities in New Mexico.
Coming from a poor family and surviving many “bad choices” concerning drugs and other illegal activities, Leticia Chavez Paulette found a relationship with God that allowed her to turn her life around and offer herself to the aid of others. Her ministry, A Peaceful Habitation Home & Aftercare Ministry, Inc., is now offering a light of hope to women coming out of prison, hope that she herself needed, to be able to overcome the realities of post-prison life.

Dr. Brian Thomas received a master’s in biotechnology in 1999 from Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas, and a Ph.D. in paleobiochemistry in 2019 from the University of Liverpool. In 2008 Dr. Thomas joined the Institute for Creation Research as a science writer and editor, contributing news and magazine articles, speaking on creation issues, and researching original tissue fossils.
Dr. Jeff Tomkins earned a master’s degree in plant science in 1990 from the University of Idaho, where he performed research in plant hormones. He received his Ph.D. in genetics from Clemson University in 1996. In 2009, Dr. Tomkins joined the Institute for Creation Research. After receiving his Ph.D., he worked at a genomics institute and became a faculty member in the Department of Genetics and Biochemistry at Clemson.
Both men join us today on ABQ Connect to talk about the creation-evolution debate, and what led them to consider themselves creationists. They talk about the ongoing work that is being done at the Institute for Creation Research to defend the Young Earth Creationist view.

Dating before and after marriage with the romance and intention of Valentine’s Day is our focus on this episode of ABQ Connect. Pastor Santiago (Santi) Llanes oversees SPCTRM Student Ministries for Calvary Church. His wife, Averi, adds more flavor to the discussion about how she started dating Santi and their life as a married couple. Assistant Production Manager of KLYT, Abby Williams, joins the conversation to address the topic from a single person’s perspective.
Averi said, “You want to be sexually attracted to the person you are going to be married to, and you don’t need to be guilty about that.” Abby added, “It is important to use your single season to find out what you are meant for. What is your purpose in life?” Santi said, “God’s sole intention for your life is not only for you to be married. That is not his main goal. His main goal is for you to be like Him.”

SPCTRM is a youth community of middle school to high school students. It’s the youth group at Calvary Church.
It’s a wide spectrum of different people and different life experiences. These are some of the questions young people are asking today: How does my faith interact with the people around me? How do I relate to the people around me? What is the purpose of leading a pure life? Taylor said, “We want to create a safe place for them to ask these questions.”

New Mexico Shooting Sports Association President Zachary (Zac) Fort said, “The New Mexico Shooting Sports Association is an independent (not-for-profit) organization based right here in New Mexico. Most of our members are New Mexicans. We are a New Mexico-focused organization to promote shooting sports. A lot of our mission today in terms of promoting shooting sports is protecting the ability of people to engage in shooting sports and own personal firearms.”
Starting January 18, 2021, Zac will track bills proposed during the New Mexico Legislative session. He said, “There’s been a number of bills introduced in the state legislature in recent years that quite frankly, some of them, if passed as they were (written), could have ended shooting sports entirely in New Mexico.”
