The family of a Dunblane shooting victim have visited Florida to support relatives and friends of those killed in the Parkland high school tragedy.

Alison Crozier and her son Jack - who lost their five-year-old daughter and sister Emma in the 1996 primary school massacre, in which 16 children and their teacher were killed - travelled to the US with radio station LBC.

During the trip they spoke about the impact of Emma's death, and the successful Snowdrop campaign which led to a ban on private handgun ownership in the UK.

Students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas School have demanded tougher gun laws in the US after 17 people were killed in the shooting on February 14.

During a meeting with Gary Dworet and Vivien D'Addario, the uncle and aunt of 17-year-old victim Nicholas Dworet, Jack told LBC: "The most important thing is that something positive comes out of something that is so terrible.

"Something positive happened after Dunblane. We changed everything and that's what we hope can happen here as well."

He urged campaigners to speak with one voice to oppose the National Rifle Association of America (NRA), the powerful gun lobby group.

"In the UK we had one voice, it was the Snowdrop Campaign, it was the gun control network," he said.

"This one voice, and this is what we want and we're not going to stop until we've got to this end point."

On the loss of Emma, Alison told the family: "It's always there but you can live out with it. That's where the positivity is that we do want to give you.

"We are 22 years down the line. There's always this hole in your life. The first year is just a blur. You do it day-by-day."

Alison and Jack also met with students and campaigners Nikhita Nookola and Christy Ma, who both lost friends in February's shooting, and with Congressman Ted Deutch, who has been campaigning for gun control.

Nikhita told them: "It's so incredible that you guys came all the way from Scotland to support us.

"You're just a living example of what we can do and how people have the power in government."

The LBC trip is the latest move by Dunblane relatives to support Parkland families, students and campaigners.

Ten family members of victims and survivors recorded a video message entitled Dunblane Stands With Parkland, while several relatives, including Jack, spoke at a rally for US gun control in Edinburgh last month.

The event was one of several hundred held across the globe in support of the March for our Lives campaign which emerged in the wake of the Parkland shooting.

391 applications resulted in an individual receiving information about a potentially dangerous other half.

Drugs mule Melissa Reid is set to return to Scotland after spending nearly three years in jail in Peru.

The 22-year-old smiled as she arrived at Lima Airport on Tuesday evening with her father, Billy, and British embassy staff, before being whisked through security by Peruvian officials overseeing her deportation.

It is believed she will fly via Amsterdam before arriving in back in the UK a free woman.

Reid, from Lenzie, East Dunbartonshire, was caught with 23-year-old Michaella McCollum, from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, trying to smuggle cocaine worth £1.5 million in mayonnaise bags from Peru to Spain in 2013.

The pair - nicknamed the "Peru Two'' - were jailed for six years and eight months after admitting the offence.

However, in May a judge granted Reid's expulsion under an early release scheme for deporting first-time drug offenders.

Janeth Sanchez, a spokeswoman for Peru's prison service, said on Tuesday that the Scot had "served her time in prison according to the law and can now go to her country, free, to the streets''.

A Scottish Prison Service spokeswoman said it was not involved with Reid's case.

McCollum was freed in March under new legislation but was required to remain on parole in Peru.

The pair were caught at Lima Airport on August 6 2013 trying to board a flight with 24lb (11kg) of cocaine in food packets hidden in their luggage.

They claimed they were forced into carrying the drugs, but pleaded guilty to the charges.

McCollum and Reid faced the prospect of a maximum 15-year prison term but struck a behind-closed-doors plea bargain to secure the shorter sentence.

Around nine in ten of the 1,809 foreigners in Peru's prisons are either sentenced or awaiting trials for drug trafficking.

Reid's father has previously said the impact of his daughter's crime on his family had been ''horrendous'' and spoke out in a video warning of the consequences of drug offences abroad.

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: ``We continue to provide assistance to Melissa Reid and remain in contact with her family and local authorities.''

Scottish Labour has accused the SNP of ``a dirty tricks campaign'' following leaked reports that leader Kezia Dugdale once applied to work for the party.

Ms Dugdale said the SNP has decided to come after me'' to distract from her tax and welfare policies, and that she haszero recollection'' of asking the SNP for work experience when she was a law student 13 years ago.

She said young people considering work experience with the SNP to boost their career should now be ``really worried ... that it might bite them'' in the future.

Ms Dugdale reportedly emailed ``a senior MSP'' in the SNP in her final year at uni to see if she could work as a researcher, according to the Scottish Sun.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon said the story was ``light-hearted'' and should not discourage people from getting involved in politics.

Labour's shadow Scottish secretary Ian Murray backed a call from the Liberal Democrats for an investigation by the Information Commissioner.

Ms Dugdale insisted she has never supported the SNP at a Scottish Parliamentary Journalists' Association event in Edinburgh.

``I think this is the start of a dirty-tricks campaign in this election,'' she said.

``Why has that happened? Because I am the only one in this election talking about how we stop the cuts and end austerity in Scotland.

``The SNP aren't prepared to match that commitment or take me on and talk about it in their own terms, so they have decided to come after me instead.

``I supposedly applied for work experience, not a job, 13 years ago in February 2002. I have absolutely zero recollection of this.''

She said students now have to seek work experience at a wide range of organisations to strengthen their CVs in an increasingly competitive job market.

``A lot of people will be really worried now about applying to them (the SNP) in the sense that it might bite them ten or 15 years down the line,'' she said.

Ms Sturgeon, who was also campaigning in the capital, said the story was ``probably more light-hearted than anything else''.

She said: ``I think young people, if they have got an interest in politics, regardless of their party affiliation, should be encouraged to get involved and get experience.''

Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie has written to the Information Commissioner's Office urging an investigation.

He said: ``Speculative applications for employment are often made with data frequently kept on file by employers for some time afterwards.

``That application should have remained confidential and I believe that if it was released by the SNP to a journalist, it amounts to a serious breach of data protection.''

Mr Murray said: ``The story itself was laughable but data protection is no laughing matter. People need to know that their correspondence with an MSP will be kept private, not leaked to a national newspaper for petty party politics.

``Nicola Sturgeon must break her silence on this issue and condemn this leak of correspondence to one of her cabinet ministers and promise an end to dirty tricks in this election.''

Commenting on the proposed ICO investigation, an SNP spokesman said: ``Why the Lib Dems are being so po-faced about a light-hearted story which has already been laughed off by Kezia Dugdale is anyone's guess.

``The fact Ms Dugdale asked for a position in the SNP has been very common knowledge in Holyrood circles for a long time. No documents of any kind have ever been given to any outside organisation.''

View Details

Kezia Dugdale has insisted reports she ``supposedly'' applied to work for the SNP more than a decade ago are "laughable''.

The Scottish Labour leader spoke out after it was reported she contacted the SNP looking for a position in both February and June 2003.

First Minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon said: "I don't think any of us should be judged too harshly on the decisions our 21-year-old selves made.''

She said the report suggested Ms Dugdale's ``political judgement was better when she was 21 than it is today''.

Ms Dugdale, 34, played down the story as she campaigned in Edinburgh in the run-up to May's Holyrood election.

The Labour leader, whose father is a member of the SNP, told the BBC: ``Thirteen years ago I supposedly applied for work experience in the Scottish Parliament.

``Now, I applied for lots of work experience, lots of young people at university do just that.

``The idea that this is a central issue of the Scottish election campaign is really laughable.''

Ms Dugdale is not understood to have been a member of the Labour Party at the time and she stressed she has never supported or voted for the SNP.

Ms Sturgeon, who was also campaigning in the capital, said the story was probably more light-hearted than anything else'' and added:I think young people, if they have got an interest in politics, regardless of their party affiliation, should be encouraged to get involved and get experience.''
