Speak to the Rock: Recent Episodes

Lorae Bonamy

Often considered a rock to my loved ones, this podcast is my spoken worship to The Rock that is higher than I, a way to tell the mountains in my life to throw themselves into the sea, and a recording of the Most High turning my heart of stone into a heart of flesh. Join me each week as we Speak to the Rock.

Happy Holy Week to those who follow a Christian faith tradition. If you don't, Holy Week is the week preceding Easter Sunday, where Christians observe the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It includes Palm Sunday, Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday. This episode is a reflection of thankfulness and gratitude...my own personal miracles that I have experienced in my faith practice. Thanks for listening.

This episode is all about ADHD, and shifting from a deficit perspective to a strengths-based approach. I talk about some ways that I use brakes (discipline) to help me thrive, and I hope this is helpful for other ADHDers out there.

Welcome to one year into a global pandemic. Life has changed tremendously for many people. Be it through loss, new life, relocation, or a new financial situation, life is different. This episode is about how we show ourselves and others grace as we are no longer able to show up in the ways we once did.

Coming out as part of the LGBTQ+ community when you follow a Christian faith tradition can be an isolating, scary, and even dangerous experience. People are rejected from families, faith communities, friend groups, and other places they once felt secure. This first episode of the first legitimate season is my take on the subject.

This episode is an example of me taking my own advice. As I try to move into authenticity and self-acceptance, I am challenging myself to be real and not as edited with my imaginary listeners. :)

Happy New Year1 This is another episode about internal struggles that often keep us from living the life we desire. I hope it is helpful for someone. It was helpful for me.

Hello listeners! Here is the shortened version of episode 102, specifically cut for my classmates and professors. The full portion of the clip in the original episode begins at 2:39 and ends at 9:03; I encourage you to listen over there. https://open.spotify.com/episode/15VhTOpb3ICO7FsbtPrSBk

Anyway, this segment is based on bell hooks' Teaching to Transgress, and the assignment was to consider my own journey to the Ph.D. program and what it means for an educational space to be one of transformation, pleasure, and the practice of freedom. I spoke to my identities as Queer, Black, Christian woman, and what it means to make room for others like me. I also spoke directly to perfectionism and my need to eradicate that in my life.

Almost three full weeks later, here is the first real episode. It was quite the journey to get here, but here is the best I can give you for now. I look forward to learning more about podcasting and being a better audio engineer, but for now, we will manage.

Welcome to the Speak to the Rock podcast! In true busybody fashion, the bulk of this episode was recorded in my car. I later transcribed the entire episode and re-recorded it (the 4th attempt), only to sound like a robot. So, I chose to sacrifice sound quality for authenticity and give y’all this episode. I hope you appreciate it.
