There was a time when Josh Hartnett was the hottest young actor in the game. His star was so big, that he got top billing in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down (2001), over many big named and up-and-coming actors. We look back at the who's who of that film and also, revisit the unheralded gem that is Lucky Number Slevin (2006). A film that probably doesn't get made today, nor with the cast that it had. Josh Hartnett, we salute you.

This film was not only a major influence on the childhood of the 1980s, but also launched several big names in the world of film and sound. Come and remember...There is no basement in the Alamo.

We celebrate one of our favorite actors, Alan Arkin, and his Oscar winning performance as dad and grandpa in Little Miss Sunshine (2006) Whether it was delivering life advice or dance moves, he was there for his family.
He also makes an appearance in Brade's Bargain Bin: Grosse Pointe Blank (1997), a film that seems primed for a reboot.

We complete our mission with Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015) and Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018). And while these films are an improvement on the spy genre, there are still some areas that need work. We want to see more comedy, better use of big name actors, and resistance to typical movie tropes. Listen and let us know what you think.

Is a critic's bad, really THAT bad? We watched three films that had between 30 and 39% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. They were: Man on Fire (2004), Smokin' Aces (2006), and Hot Rod (2007). While they have their warts, which we discuss, these are pretty good films. Plus, hear about the time Brade squared up against Rampage Jackson.

Time to start traveling the world with the Fast franchise. We make our first stop in Japan with The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006). And then to the Dominican Republic, Los Angeles, and Mexico for Fast & Furious (2009).
We get an introduction to new family members, a new director and non-linear storytelling. All of which solidified the foundation for the franchise.

This is where is all began. We kick off #FastFebruary by watching the original The Fast and the Furious (2001) and following it up with 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003). Get ready.
We talk about Dom, Brian, Letty, Mia, and of course Ja Rule. Then we start to see what the franchise could become, hints from John Singleton and the trade of Ja for Ludacris and Tyrese.
Also we found out how Brian went from Fast to 2 Fast. (Thanks, Minka!)

How good is George Clooney? We ask ourselves that question as we watch his latest film, The Midnight Sky (2020), and also take a look back at his award nominated performance in Michael Clayton (2007).
We discuss some of the tropes in futuristic films as well as how good writing can elevate the performance of the entire cast, not just the headliner.

Greed. Oil. Blood...Milkshakes. Was Daniel Plainview a real family man or just an opportunistic one? Is Daniel Day-Lewis in a class of his own among actors? Was this a brilliant film score or just an annoying one? How geeky can 4 dads get talking about There Will Be Blood from 2007?

Authoritarianism or Anarchy? Red or Blue? Graphic Novel or Comic Book? These are just some of the things we discuss on this week's podcast with V for Vendetta (2005).
Seeing an oppressive government that uses the media as propaganda, has little regard for alternative viewpoints, and had manufactured a pandemic, were some other parallels that hit a little too close to our current state of political discord.

In our lives we have good days and bad days. The bad days are made worse when we have terrible, horrible, no good, very bad fathers, like those in:
The Shining (1980) - Terrible
The Devil's Advocate (1997) - Horrible
Frailty (2001) - No Good
Uncut Gems (2019) - Very Bad
We take a look at the bad dads. Whether it is being an addict, having a psychotic break, leading a murderous divine crusade, or being the devil himself, these dads made life awful for their children and families.
