Moms Of Truth: Recent Episodes

Alicia Lopez Gregg

Moms of truth is founded on 2 Timothy 3:16-17; "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work." The vision of this ministry is to provide content that is rooted in the word, share principles, behaviors, and truths that we can practically apply to our life and our parenting. Our mission is to teach children the truth, train them in their faith and trust God with the outcome.

These are just a few suggestions of safe and clean streaming entertainment platforms for kids. There are definitely more than just these I am talking about and I pray this encourages you to seek them out. We do not have to settle for platforms that are toxic for our children. Let's be willing to ditch them and find some that are wholesome and God honoring.

Coming to Disney plus in Australia and New Zealand is a new show called 'Little Demon'. It is every bit as awful as you think and even worse. This show isn't even rated for children so  why Disney is bringing it onto their platform blows my mind. Currently it has no other release dates for other regions but I'm certain they are coming.

Most Christian parents consider this to be a tough or nerve-racking conversation and that is explaining same sex couples or marriage to your children. We can no longer hide it from them. They see it in commercials, t.v shows, in our communities and for some of us, in our families.

3 helpful tips before you start:

  1. Have a plan.

  2. Don't make it a big deal.

  3. Make it a safe place for discussion and questions.

Here is the plan I followed when explaining this to my own children, I pray it is helpful to you!

  1. Start with scripture: Genesis 1:27, and possibly Genesis 7:1-10, then Matthew 19:4-6

  2. Introduce the lifestyle: see video for notes on covering this

  3. Compare it back to Scripture: James 1:14&15, possibly Romans 1:24-29

  4. Teach them how to respond: Colossians 4:5&6

  5. Pray about it and for others.

Today I would like to share with you the top 5 reasons why we do not celebrate Santa for Christmas in our household. Although I grew up doing all the Santa traditions, the Holy Spirit has shown me how much of a distraction he can be. Of course, the true story of St. Nicholas is wonderful and inspiring but it has changed so much over the years. So much in fact, Santa has take on his own identity that does not resemble the true St. Nicholas at all.

  1. Stole attributes

  2. Twisted story

  3. Anti-Gospel message

  4. Gifts are from God

  5. Santa gets the glory

How do we develop discernment within our children?

Hebrews 5:14 ESV translation says, But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice, to distinguish good from evil.

Keywords here for us are constant practice, trained by constant practice. On today's podcast I will be sharing a few ways and ideas we can train our children constant practice.

1.) Through movies and tv shows

2.) Lyrics to songs

3.) Children's books

4.) Sermons

5.) Popular catch phrases

6.) What they learn or hear in public school

7.) Apologetics debates

Fallacy is everywhere. Our children cross paths with it everyday through either, music, books, commercials, school, friends, social media, I mean the list really just goes on! We can not protect, filter or keep them from it 100% of the time. It's just impossible. Our only hope is to train them up to be discerning on their own, testing everything to the written word of God.

Today, I would like to share with you a recent discernment activity I did with my own children and what the outcome of it was. I pray that it both inspires and encourages you to practice this sort of thing with your children as well. :)

1.) Explain what discernment is and why it's important

2.) Explain the activity and what the mission is

3.) Be 100% present during the activity and even do it alongside them

4.) Take them to the truth and start testing

Holidays can be a hot topic when it comes to Christianity. Unfortunately, in the body of Christ it can cause a lot of division and in this video I’d like to talk about that a little bit. I'm going to be mostly sharing what we do as a family and how we came to that decision.

Evil doesn't even lurk anymore, it's loud and proud. It yells and displays its boldness on the street corner in the name of equality or human rights. We have no more time to make excuses or push aside the duty of training up our children. If we don't equip them with the truth and the faith to hold fast to it, the world will crush them.

Today I am reviewing the book, Parenting 14 Gospel Principles by Paul David Tripp. Motherhood gets so busy it is easy to get lost in it and forget about God's big picture for our lives. This book will help you to focus on what's most important in parenting and turn to your gaze to the rescuing grace of God. Both we and our children desperately need to be saved from ourselves and there is only one who can do that for us. Jesus.

This book is encouraging because it gives us an inside look to some women who probably thought that same thing but raised up great men of God. Even though sibling arguments are a normal thing we should not treat them as so by ignoring it, shrugging it off as no big deal or even just emotionally disconnecting because we can’t stand to referee yet another battle between our kids.  What is the root cause of the arguing and how do we get it stop?

In today's video, I will cover the why, so that we as parents can proceed with understanding in our hearts instead of frustration. I will also give you 3 practical things you can do with your children to help cultivate compassion, patience, selflessness, and genuine love between siblings.

In today's podcast I will share 5 common back talk phrases kids often say and give you biblical ways to respond. Talking back is not an abnormal thing for any parent to get frustrated with, we've all had to or will experience it with our kids. However, it can hit an instant button of anger within us and we can respond in ways that are more damaging to the situation. I hope you find these scriptures and practices helpful in your parenting journey but remember above all, the Holy Spirit will be faithful to lead you if you lean into him.

If our children are going to successfully walk in integrity we must teach them how to identify temptation and then equip them to overcome it. Temptation is the thing that tries to entice our children away from what is good and true into a life of sin, setting aside their integrity altogether.

Today is part 3 of the integrity series and we will talk about how to help our children identify temptation, who it's from and how God uses it for good, and lastly how to teach them to find strength to resist.

Raising followers of Christ can not be accomplished without integrity, an honest and pure heart, faithful and loyal to the one true King. This is an essential character trait to develop within ourselves and our children.

Our children are going to face outside influences even from a young age, ungodly influence. How will they fair? Are we confident as moms that they will choose to honor God? Will they lay down their faithfulness for temporary approval from peers? How can we have any sort of peace of mind as they venture out into the world more and more? Today we will take a look at the life of Daniel and see how he faired as he was taken from his home in his youth. His story is not only inspirational but shows us as parents how important it really is that we develop integrity in our children.  Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AliciaLGregg Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/momsoftruth/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmax0k6bg6TZrfdocWR_2kw Podcast -  Moms of truth available on Apple, Spotify, Edifi, Google, Breaker, and many more platforms!

Raising honest kids is a hard task. From as early as two years old they somehow know how to tell a lie and from then on we are trying everything we can to get them to do the right thing even when they think no one can see them. In today's message I will have some open unscripted conversation with my son about integrity. What is it? Why is it important? And what does scripture say about it?

Consider today a light intro to the series of integrity. In the following weeks we will discuss people in the Bible who show us how to have integrity and how that helps us in our walk with Christ. We will also later cover tangible ways we can actually cultivate this character trait in our children.

Children are a gift from the Lord (Psalms 127:3) but in the hard parts of parenting it sometimes doesn't feel like that. We have an abundance of moments when we are beaming with pride and love for our children while other times we are weighed down by the hardships of parenting. When we allow the lie that our children are a burden to grasp our hearts it changes they way we see them and in turn effects our interactions with them.

In today's video I pray that you would find great encouragement and rest in the Gods truth. Our children are truly a gift and a wonderful reward for us to enjoy and steward well.

The question should I spank my child is often asked or pondered by parents. The answer to this is not a one size fits all. Making this determination can be difficult to navigate for any parent. As christians we rely fully on what the word of God says and his Holy Spirit which directs us in the way we should go.

In this video, I will briefly be talking about spanking specifically. However, this is a minuscule part of discipline as many other effective things can and should be put into practice before this. I also covered biblical discipline in a complete 4 part series, including what the Bible says about physical punishment.

As mom it’s likely at one time or another you may have lost your cool with your kids and said things you later felt bad about. I don’t think any mom should beat herself up about any regretful interactions instead I'd like to encourage you. If you do feel that way know that you can make it right with your kids by asking their forgiveness along with Gods. His grace is sufficient.

In the throws of motherhood it is easy for harmful phrases to slip of the tongue. Today we are going to talk about a few that you may have heard or even said to your kids. I will talk about better ways we can respond to our children that will build them up instead of tear them down.

Are any of the following phrases familiar to you: Because I said so, don’t use that tone with me, wipe that look off your face, life’s not fair, your room looks like a tornado went through it,  and as long as you live under my roof.  Today we are talking about taming the momma tongue. If we want to build our children up in the love and ways of the Lord we must learn to control our tongue. There are many things we say while in the everyday chaos of motherhood that hurt our children even if it's unintentional. Let's look at what some of those things are and how we can change that.

We live in a time where parents think it’s cruel to correct or discipline their children. They think it is harsh and unfair to give them boundaries and then enforce them. Moms are afraid to correct their children in public because they are made to feel guilty about discipling their child.   What happens when we raise undisciplined children?

Today we will discuss the answer to that question by looking throughout Biblical history for understanding.

Scriptures for today:  Jeremiah 5:20-31, & 25:1-14, Isaiah 53, Hebrews 5:7-8, Luke 17:24-25, & Romans 8:17

When you hear the word discipline there are probably a few different images that come to mind for you and it's likely based off your own experiences growing up. Our upbringing can shape our understanding of what discipline is supposed to be but God's word can teach us ways that are healthy, fruitful and biblical. In today's video we are going to talk about ways to discipline our children that include discipleship because after all, that is the goal.

On today's show we are going to look at the goal of discipline and the role we play in it as care-givers. Having a clear picture of the outcome we desire to see in our children will help us to take the right next steps. Scripture also tells us that God disciplines those he calls his children but this doesn't let us off the hook. He is clear that we are to take part in the process.

Over the next three weeks we will be covering the topic discipline. Before we discuss ways to biblically do that it would be wise of us to ask the Holy Spirit to first search our heart and reveal any hidden faults within us. The way we see our children and the things we carry on our heart play into how we treat them and discipline them. Let's start by allowing God to do a work in us. :)

What happens when the person you voted for isn't elected? As a Christian parent what should we be modeling to our children about who is being sworn into office when we do not agree with their morals and policies? The answer is quite simple and is clearly written in scripture for us. In today's mesage I will share how we christian parents can teach our children to trust in the Lord even when the outcome isn't what we think it should be.

2 Timothy 3:16-17; All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. This time of year is truly wonderful because we get to do all the fun traditions and make special memories with our kids. However, it is also the busiest time of the year for moms. Today I have a little encouragement and reminder that what's most is important is for us mommas to be present. In this bonus content I share some scripture that shows us exactly how to do that. Be blessed mommas!

In this video, I share 5 easy ways to help teach your children to understand sin and also, how to train them in repentance. It's not enough for our children to know what sin is, the consequence of it and the solution to it. They must also practice turning from it. So how do we do that as mommas and disciple-makers?    1.) Instill a knowledge of what it is.   2.) Use God's law in times of discipline.  3.) Help them practice repentance.  4.) Model repentance.  5.) Pray for conviction and for them to be caught in their sin.   Scriptures referenced -------- 2 Timothy 2:24 NKJV, Titus 2:7 & 14 NLT, John 16:8 & 13 NLT   Called To Cultivate ---- YouTube video on 10 commandment hand signs: https://youtu.be/auBp1tiiD7c  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brave.moms/ YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmax0k6bg6TZrfdocWR_2kw  Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/934427073575175

Romans 6:21, Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! The battle with sin is not always an easy one but God's word is clear in that he wants us to choose to do what is right over what is evil. In this video, I talk about why it is so important for us to dive deep into the topic of sin with our kids. The more we understand why it's so important the more committed and diligent we will be as moms to spend time talking about it. The goal after all, is to raise children that live a life pleasing to God and to do that well, they need to know what is displeasing to Him. So momma, let's equip our children with the knowledge they need to be faithful followers of Christ Jesus. Scriptures---- Galatians 2:21 NLT, Romans 5:21 NLT, Isaiah 59:2 ESV, Romans 6:21 NLT, Titus 1:16 ESV, 2 Corinthians 7 :10 NLT, Proverbs 28:13 NLT, Isaiah 55:8-9 ESV, 2 Timothy 2:19 NLT Brave Mom Challenge: Open up the dialogue. Start by reading the story of Christ crucified and ask you kids if they understand why Jesus had to suffer and die. If they say, for our sins, press in more, past the basic knowledge. See what they say and let the Holy Spirit led you in helping them understand the weight of sin. If you need help, check out last Wednesday's video!

Sin isn't always a fun topic but necessary to understand the truth of what Jesus did. Without sin there was no reason for Christ to be crucified. Growing in our understanding of sin not only helps the truth of the Gospel be deep seated in our hearts but it equips us to point our children's actions back to Christ. The truth is what sets us free!    In this video, I answer the following questions with Scripture:  1.) What is sin?  2.) Why is sin bad?  3.) How do you know if you are sinning?  4.) What happens when we sin?  5.) How does it make you feel?  6.) What did God do about sin?  7.) What must we do to be washed clean and saved by Jesus?   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brave.moms/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/934427073575175 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmax0k6bg6TZrfdocWR_2kw

On this episode my 9 year old Noah will answer, the best he can, questions about sin. He did not receive any special or extra teaching before this recording. He is answering these tough questions based on his current wisdom. The purpose of this is so I (mom) can check in to see where my kids are in their understanding. Then, I can evaluate their answers and strategically plan my next teachings with them. Are they misunderstanding God's truth? Are they completely confused or do they just need to dig a little deeper? I encourage you to practice this with your children and I hope this video brings you encouragement to do so!  Be sure to check back next week for a follow up video on "How to teach your kids about sin." On today's episode we are just having a little fun and learning through curiosity.  I am joined by my 4 children to ask them some fun light hearted questions about God.  I want them to truly love learning all about the bible but also want them to know it is okay to have fun and explore His truth in different ways. Enjoy mommas and have some fun conversations with your kids this week!

For most of my life I was broken and deeply wounded by the people who abused me as a child. I had a deep sense of lose from those encounters. Loss of innocence, basic human rights, identity and that led to me carry a lot of anger, bitterness, shame, guilt, feeling of isolation that I was the only one. All of it was damaging in more ways than I can probably ever fully understand and this was the place that I was not only trying to have a healthy marriage, a normal life, but I was parenting from this broken place.   In the New Testament, As Jesus calls each of His disciples we see over and over again how they left their old life behind and started a new one with Christ.  2 Corinthians 5:17, This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! There is a legacy that we leave behind, and we have the opportunity in Christ to hand down a different kind of legacy to our children.  One that is rich in the truth and full of God’s blessing, protection and promises.  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brave.moms/ Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/934427073575175 YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmax0k6bg6TZrfdocWR_2kw?view_as=subscriber

I had people in my past that I simply refused to forgive because of how badly they hurt me. According to me they didn't deserve it. Jesus tells a parable in Matthew chapter 18 about a servant who was forgiven a great debt but refused to offer that same mercy to someone who also owed him. The Bible is clear that we are to forgive or we ourselves will not be forgiven but sometimes it's just not that easy.    In this video, I share my painful past with you and explain how I was able to truly forgive the people who hurt me. Breaking away from the cycle of sin requires repentance of our sins but also forgiveness of others. All this is necessary to hand down to our children a new legacy, by being a new creation in Christ.    Generational Sins Part 1 ----  https://youtu.be/2bsD40ewRSs   Generational Sins Part 2 ----- https://youtu.be/dhFFjRVN4L0   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brave.moms/   Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/934427073575175

Through the disobedience of one man many were made sinners but because one other man was obedient many will be made righteous. On the cross, Jesus broke the cycle of generational sin by overcoming it and redeeming the consequence of death by rising on the 3rd day. When we repent from our sin and allow him to shape us into a new creation we are able to leave behind our old sinful way and generationally hand down to our children blessing instead of sin. The cycle of sin is broken by Christ, with Christ and in Christ. He is the overcomer!   Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brave.moms/   Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/934427073575175

Just like our children inherit our eye color, height, attitudes and even behaviors some sin is also passed down through the generations. These can be things like addictions, abuse, divorce and even certain mindsets. Through Jesus Christ alone we have the opportunity and ability to break this cycle and hand down to our children a new legacy.

Mommas, I think while we teach our kids stories in the Bible and important scriptures it's good practice to check in and see if they have questions. It's not only a fun way to learn new things but we can guide them in their doubt, search the word, and find the truth, together. My daughter and I enjoyed this so much we want to hear from your kids! Post their questions below, we would love to have a go at them! 🙂 Brave Mom Challenge: You guessed it, check in with your kids and see if they have questions or doubts about the Bible or their walk of faith. Don't let this intimidate you, be brave and know that you don't have to have an explanation right away and everything you need is found in Gods word, that I promise you.

Our children are watching us and catching on to how we react in difficult times. We have a great opportunity as moms to show them just what it looks like to trust in the Lord's timing, to learn how to lean into Him, and to have hope in times of trouble. We can read the story of Daniel and witness a true man of God unwavering in his faithfulness no matter what was going on.

The first milestone I had my heart set on for my kids faith life was wanting them to ask Jesus into their hearts. Scripture says if we believe with our hearts and confess with our mouths we are saved! I didn't just want them to choose Jesus because of what they could get from him though. I wanted to help them fall in love and change their lives by the power of the Holy Spirit. To accomplish this we couldn't just stop at the cross knowing our sins are covered but we had to have a full understanding of salvation. It's our job as moms to help them see the full picture and so they can be refined by the truth of the Gospel message.

Read the book of John, explore and have fun as God leads you through His word.

-Scripture meditation recommendations: Romans 6:23, 1 Peter 3:18, Ephesians 2:8-9, Acts 2:38.

-Below was my own personal prayer that I daily prayed for my children. I encourage you to spend time with the Father to craft your own. Be sure to write the date at the top and then revisit it when that prayer is answered! 🙂

-Heavenly Father, I pray that my children would receive the gift of salvation at a young age. I pray that they would hear your voice and establish a relationship with you and be willing to stand alone proclaiming the good news. That they wouldn't waiver under the pressure of their peers and compromise their faithfulness for temporary approval. I pray that they would be strong and courageous walking in confidence that the Lord their God is with them wherever they go. In Jesus name, amen.

My mommy mission is not only that my children would love Jesus but that they would know how to live like him. I won't always be right beside them coaching them through every situation, they need their own moral compass shaped by biblical principles, led by the Holy Spirit. We started a new family activity that has been teaching my kids how to live, think and love according to God's standards. It has changed our lives.

Meditations to start with: Romans 10:10, 2 Corinthians 3:17, Ephesians 4:2, Colossians 3:23-24

Sending our kids off for the 2020-2021 school year is unlike any other. We don't know how Covid-19, during this academic year is going to affect our children or what their struggles and experiences are going to be. If feels as though we are sending them off into the unknown with constantly changing circumstances. In this season mommas,  we can not lose our footing, our confidence, or let our faith grow faint. We must not forget our God who is Sovereign, provisionary, on time, and present.

Malachi 3:6 "For I, the Lord, do not change; therefore O Children of Jacob, are not consumed."

Deuteronomy 6:12 "Be careful, that you do not forget the Lord who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery,"

Brave Mom Challenge: Make a list of all the good things God has done for you. Remember His faithfulness.

One day my kids are going to decide for themselves if they believe everything I am teaching them about the God who created them. Choosing Jesus is not something I can do for them, it will be between them and the Father. As mom I have no control over this moment but I do have influence. All along their faith journey of growing it's important for me to create a safe place for exploratory conversations. It's ok for them to have questions and to work through doubt because it means they have an opportunity to seek Him and His promise is they would find Him when it's with their whole heart.

There has to be a better way, was the cry on my heart when my 7 year old had a temper blowout on me.  His attitude made my blood boiling angry but still I didn't want to march upstairs and let loose on him but I didn't know any other way to parent. It was in this moment of authentically surrendering my way of handling things did the Holy Spirit step in to show me exactly what my heart was desiring.

What if God gave me children not for my own enjoyment but for His purpose to be known.  Taking pleasure in my kids may be part of the gift of parenting but what if the ultimate purpose is to raise them up and send them out for His Kingdom work? This can be a very difficult thought to process. Let's talk about how we take the next step in aligning our hearts with God's plans for our children's lives.  It is the greatest thing you can do for your children, family legacy and God's Kingdom.

However, my Heavenly Father wants to partner with me in my parenting. It's not all on my shoulders but I have to first be willing to move over and make some room for him.

The prophet Elijah was one of the boldest in Old Testament times but even he falls on his face when he neglects to take proper care of his body. We can not neglect the physical and still expect to keep up with the work of the Spiritual. If we want to walk out all of our Spiritual callings in full strength for the glory of God we must be sure to properly tend to the temple. Our body has basic needs and when we fulfill those we position ourselves to do our best work for God.

Prayer was a struggle for me most of my walk with Christ. It's only when He began to nudge me towards a prayer life that my faith came alive and tangible. My relationship with Him was more real than any other relationship in my life. Prayer puts us in the presence of God and there is no better place to be when trying to practice self-care. We can leave our burdens and partake the divine exchange of healthy Holy things he was to give.

Are you tired of fear holding you down and keeping you from what you really want to do? Me too! When I finally fell before the Lord exhausted with fighting fear he whispered to me "Shift your focus." My eyes were set on the wrong kind of fear, the intimidation of darkness. God's word is full of instruction that tells me to fear the Lord. That it is a fountain of life, the beginning of wisdom. It's not about having no fear at all or even fighting hard to overcome it but rather shifting our focus to fear the one who is sovereign over all the earth. What it is with fear just always showing up at the worst times or when we finally get somewhere good in life? As we follow the Israelites from Egypt to the promised land we can clearly see the trend of the Enemy, on the prowl, following them from place to place. He is waiting for the perfect opportunity to jump out and intimate us. He wants to stop us from doing the things God has called us to do or even just to kill our joy throughout the journey of life by using fear against us. However, we can also see a God who never left the Israelites, who remained faithful just as he promises. We have a God who goes before us and that is where we should fix our eyes.  Jesus tells us to keep our eyes fixed on him so fear doesn't distract and discourage us.

I always felt like I wasn't really helping my children when I told them "You don't need to be afraid". It never really made them feel brave or equip them to be that. What does empower them to bravery is Gods word. Just like we use scripture to help us overcome our fears so can our children. I bring my 3 older kids (ages, 8, 6, &6) on to the podcast and they share their fears along with a scripture that helps them. Enjoy! From the moment I held my first child in my arms the fears started flooding in and consuming me. I have yet to get to a place in motherhood where they go away all together but rather they seem to just always change with my kids seasons of life. These fears like sickness, abduction, getting bullied, or abused, failure, heartbreak, I'm messing up or not a good mom have daunted me. I finally got to a place where I was just tired of being weighed down by them and turned to God for help. I realized if I wanted to overcome them I had to be willing to be brave and list them out, get them all out in the open so I could seek God's word for His hope giving promises.  Connect with our Brave Moms community on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/934427073575175/ Check out our YouTube for video format messages: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmax0k6bg6TZrfdocWR_2kw?view_as=subscriber

For us mommas this world can be a pretty scary place to raise kids. It's not the world I wanted for my children but it's the world they got. So, what does it look like to be brave, how do we walk that out when fear has us holding our babies close? Scared to let them out to live and experience life but heartbroken to keep them sheltered. There is hope brave momma! We have to first equip ourselves so we can then equip our children, empower ourselves so we can empower them. The best way to protect them is to prepare them but in order to do that we will have to overcome some things in our own life to pour out bravery into them. Because when they catch us being brave they not only witness what it means to trust in the Lord but it becomes their posture for life. Walk with me on this journey momma as we build our bravery and the next generation of Christ followers.
