Join me on an enlightening journey as I delve into the profound question of why we are here. In this thought-provoking episode, I explore the intricacies of finding purpose and its transformative impact on our lives.

For some, purpose reveals itself early, resonating deep within their souls like a melody that cannot be ignored. We'll explore the stories of musicians who find joy and fulfillment in expressing themselves through the enchanting language of music. Their art becomes a beacon, illuminating not only their own existence but also inspiring and touching the lives of others.

But purpose isn't limited to artists alone. Whether you're a teacher, a coach, a mechanic, or anyone wanting to contribute, you'll discover a common thread that unites purpose-driven individuals. They recognize that their lives extend beyond their personal desires and needs. They embrace the understanding that they are here to make a difference, to leave an indelible imprint on the world.

Procrastination can sneak in and steal many things from us. Here’s how I got rid of it in my life. I followed the sound advise of many people to eliminate busy work and fill my day with more impactful tasks. From there, I followed what James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, suggests to stop procrastination. I talk about what that looks like in this short video.

If you wish to increase productivity and beat procrastination, there is a simple solution. It’s all about eliminating the ‘starting’ factor of a task by changing where the ‘starting’ factor falls in the sequence of the task. Essentially, you’re setting yourself up on advance so you remove any obstacles to getting your next task done.

Our minds are so cool. Our minds are with us on our journey and will do what we ask them to do. To overcome procrastination is all about guiding your mind to perform important tasks in a manner you create. I’ll share what that manner might look like for you in this video.

I’d love to hear from you on this. What is your secret sauce to stop procrastinating? Did this video resonate with you? Why or why not?

In a world that can sometimes feel distant and cold, it's comforting to realize that to find your best advocate you only need to look in the mirror. You are guaranteed to always be by your side for the rest of your life. But sometimes life tosses us curve balls and it can be difficult to get back in touch with yourself on a healthy level. In this episode of Curves Welcome, my special guest Leslie Lindsey Davis joins me and we chat about ways to nurture the best friend within.

A little about Leslie, she’s published 5, almost 6, books, her first one being “You Can’t Eat Love: how learning to love yourself can change your relationship with food.” This book is in the Amazon top 20 in at least 2 categories since its release in January. I'm always on the lookout for ways to improve the quality of my life, and I feel after this podcast chat that I have a new tool in my quality life toolbox. My guest, Ann Hince, spiritual teacher, public speaker, and author, explains how she changed the direction of her life through the process of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as tapping. Tune in to learn this very simple technique that you can start using immediately as I have!

About Ann Hince:
Ann has developed the ability to sense inside her body, and release physical tension stored in her connective tissue, using solely the focus of her mind. She has x-rays to show the physical changes resulting from this inner work - including changing the alignment of her eye sockets, the straightening of her neck, the centering of her lower jaw, and the growth of her tooth roots.

Ann wants us all to know that we have this incredible power within us, it just takes going further with practices that you may already be doing.

As many of you may know, changing what is on our inside, changes what we see on the outside, so it is Ann's belief that we can not only change our personal world, but also our collective world.

Ann has a YouTube channel where she shares her journey, explains the connection between the physical and the spiritual, and will be posting videos of how to change the pressing issues of our time. Her book, A Pathway to Insight, details her journey and breaks down the steps she took to attain what she calls Insight, or the ability to see within the body.

Cancer thrives on sugar. Cancer cells need it, unable to grow and multiply without a steady supply of glucose. But after a cancer diagnosis, medical and dietary recommendations from oncology doctors often result in increased blood sugar and insulin levels—the essential elements that cancer cells need to thrive.

In Hacking Chemo, Registered Dietitian and cancer survivor Martha Tettenborn uncovers the secrets of cancer metabolism, offering a refreshing new way of treating the disease with minimal side effects and maximum effectiveness. Cancer treatment like chemotherapy doesn’t have to derail your life. You can be your own bio-hacker by decoding how cancer works in your body…and your life.

We've all been there when we've received criticism and felt badly about it. Maybe the feedback made us question our work, our worth, our very path in life. If we allow it to, this feedback can derail us. But the key in this is 'if we allow it to'. We have the control to take this feedback in any way we choose. Sometimes feedback can be a tough pill to swallow, but it can actually benefit us if we open up to it and find the helpful parts.

In this episode, Ann Roberts - award-winning author, executive director of the Golden Crown Literary Society, and former educator - and I talk through ways we can benefit from feedback.

When I was in my late twenties, the last thing I ever imagined I’d do is walk through the doors of a dojo and sign on the dotted line to become a karate student. But destiny called me towards those doors and into a place I’d soon come to call my second home. I use the word destiny loosely here because I’m not sure many people might refer to a close call with a criminal in an alleyway a call to destiny. But I needed skills and confidence, and the dojo appeared when I needed it. To me that’s the definition of destiny.

Mentors come in all forms. Mine just happened to come wearing a fifth degree blackbelt and a can-do attitude that told me everything was going to be okay. No criminal was ever going to get the best of me again, if I could help it. And I believe my mentor would say the same still to this day.

My mentor Sensei Carlos taught me three very important life lessons that I carry with me to this day some twenty years later. And I’m able to still carry them because I was open and eager to soak up his knowledge. He was living his life the way I wanted to – with a healthy respect for self-control and how it can serve us when we find ourselves in perilous situations.

No one ever wants to hear the words, you have cancer.

What started out as the scariest day of life for my sister, Tami,  ended up bringing her some of life's greatest gifts - strength, love, and purpose. Listen to this amazing woman's story as she shares some vulnerable pieces of her soul, as well as some incredible insights for anyone facing or helping someone they love face tough challenges. Warning: You may shed a few tears (of sadness and joy) while listening (I sure did!), and come out of this conversation with a healthier perspective on life.

I interviewed her for this episode a few years back, but her story still gives me chills and hope. She's a survivor and doing amazing these days. She became a grandmother to Athena Lynn in November 2020. Yes, life is great!

A glimpse into her story: https://youtu.be/Thla97AjBrs

In this episode, I bring up something that happened in my past that defined me in a good way. The path getting there was really uncomfortable, bit I gained a healthy rush from it.

I remember the first time I choked publicly. I was in high school. In fact, I was the new kid in town, starting over in eleventh grade in a new school. As if high school wasn’t hard enough on a kid, toss in the insecurity of having no friends, no alliances, nothing to keep yourself grounded.

So there I was an awkward teenager, with eighties hair and nerves about as strong as tumbleweed, sitting in the front row of my English classroom in a panic. Why was I in panic? Because it was the first week of school, not a soul spoke to me, and I sat alone, perched at the front of the class, pretty much a beacon for being called upon by a teacher. Why did that freak me out? I have no idea. It never did before I entered that lonely high school classroom. In my former school, I had friends, I was a majorette, I was on the cross country team, and I knew everyone. Here, I was treated like an outsider and the stakes were high for me because I wanted to belong. I wanted them to want to be my friend. I wanted to be accepted and comfortable again.

But the universe is funny when you seek comfort. It likes to screw with us, doesn’t it? Hahaha It likes to toss us into uncomfortable situations and see how long we can survive before we can thrive.

Tune in to find out how I got past this and ways you can get past challenges, too.

I listened to a podcast the other day and the podcaster said something that completely resonated. “When we compare, we stop performing our best because we are following instead of doing our own thing.”

I do believe that comparisons can be helpful if you do so with the intention to grow and learn from them.

But most of us, when we compare, we are often doing so from a viewpoint of lack and if I’m being honest, envy. Of course, this doesn’t serve us. We know it’s a dangerous game to compare ourselves because it brings about feelings of inadequacy and can seriously stunt our growth. Yet, many of us still do it.

Tune in to find out why we do this and how we can stop through a simple change in perspective.

Curves Welcome – Start Living a Life that Makes You Happy

Maybe you’ve found yourself living a life on someone else’s terms, a life, if given an easier choice, you never would’ve made for yourself. That happens a lot. Choosing a life path not at all in sync with your heart because it’s just easier than rocking the boat with those in your life.

It’s not comfortable to rock the boat, after all. It can be quite terrifying, in fact. It’s terrifying because you don’t know how those close to you will think of your true calling or true self. Will they still love you? Will they accept you as you truly are? Will this change in a life path alter their lives in a way that will make you feel guilt, even if it is unjustified guilt?

What’s at stake if you don’t choose life on your own terms?

I’ve learned that to gain a sense of purpose requires action. If you want to be a writer, you must write. If you want to be a painter, you must paint. If you want to be an actor, you must act. You can’t just talk about it. You can’t just dream about it. You must do it. You can’t ever give up. Often times that path opens up by our willingness to forge a new one where one didn't exist before. That takes courage to build a new path. And that courage stems from a strong desire to live a life you’re meant to live. Have you ever given up on something because you felt it was impossible to achieve? You felt all the odds were stacked too high against you? You didn’t think you had what was necessary to make an impact? If so, you’re not alone. And I’m living proof that what you decide to do is only half as important as doing it.

I’d describe myself as an empath. When someone is hurt, I’m hurt. When someone is sad, I’m sad. When someone is in a bad mood, I’m in a bad mood. I seem to absorb the energy of whatever is happening around me. This can be all consuming and detrimental to my well-being. This pull on the heart can easily cause a person to lose themselves in the world of others. I realized after a while that taking on the weight of the world’s problems would destroy me if I didn’t set some safety measures and boundaries into place.

Today I wanted to share some of those.

A Great Question to Ask Yourself - Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

One of the most efficient ways to get past a roadblock in your life is to ask yourself a really great question. Asking great questions can open up a part of our brain that would otherwise remain blocked. It brings you from a helpless dormant state to one where possibilities and solutions appear. With possibilities and solutions, our chances of moving past a troubling situation expand.

And I don’t know about you, but for me, I’d much rather be in a position of expansion than deflation.

When you’re heading towards that place of deflation, ask yourself – What’s one thing I can do right now that takes me in the opposite direction of my current problem?

Tune in to see how this question played out with me during a recent moment.

How to Move Beyond A Bad Mistake - Curves Welcome with Suzie Carr

Great healing and growth occurs in the space of love. Know that that love is not something we can seek from others because we can’t control another person’s feelings. Rather, this love only exists when we place it into the world and shine it on others. No one can take that from us. When you show up with love to anything in life, whether negative or positive, the focus on bringing love and gentleness to that moment will create more of the same emotion. This is true whether you are bringing that love to someone outside yourself or to yourself. Love creates a gentleness that heals. No matter your mistake, whether it’s small or grand scale, when you are truly regretful and sorry and can admit your mistake, you are then able to turn things around and cast a better light on it.

Stay Awesome!

Today’s episode is inspired by my character Emma from The Fiche Room. It has to do with learning to embrace what’s in your heart even when it doesn’t jive with the dreams others have for you.

I remember when I first told someone important to me that I wanted to write a novel. This person nodded, smiled politely, and carried on with her activity at the time, dismissing the idea as something incredibly idealistic and silly.

That dismissal caused me to question if the person had it right, was writing a book a silly idea that would lead nowhere? Who was I to write a book anyway? And what if it failed miserably? The person would be able to look me in the eye and say I could’ve told you that would happen.

That kind of stuff used to bother me back then.

But thankfully, I did have strength in me to move past the dismissal and try my hand at it anyway.

Tune in to listen to the lessons I’ve learned about this.

What happens with me, and I’m guessing most of us who suffer from anxiety, is that we start off with an innocent enough question about a problem we’re experiencing, trying to understand the root cause of it so we can solve it. What tends to happen with me is I continue to dig until I’ve dropped so far below the actual issue and into the dreaded pit of no return where the loop of trying to fit an unworkable solution into the puzzle creates even more anxiety.

Tune into this show to stop that loop. I share a powerful exercise to help you zap anxiety from your life.

Everything is temporary in life. And this should offer us a sense of peace knowing that if things aren’t exactly as we’d like them to be, it’s okay. Because eventually the tides will change and offer a potential shift in our favor. Of course on the flip side of this, when things are going really great, we want them to stay exactly as they are because we’ve probably worked really hard to get them there.

If you’re struggling with the current state of circumstances, tune in to this episode for some relief.

The ego has earned itself a bad reputation because typically the word ego is used in situations to describe the negative. Being called egotistical means you don't have the competence and experience to back up your confidence. That kind of ego is damaging and needs to be checked. But equally as powerful as the negative side of the ego is the positive side of it. It’s not egotistical to know you are good at something. You’ve got to believe in yourself to succeed and bring value.

Tune into this episode to look at how to kill the negative and boost the positive of your ego.
