In this episode of the Third Power Life podcast, I dive into the concept of a "mind virus" that plagues many successful professionals - the work obsession virus. Drawing parallels between computer software and our mental frameworks, I explore how this virus manifests in our lives, pushing us to work excessively at the expense of our relationships, personal care, and overall well-being. I share my personal mission to make "Cat's in the Cradle" just a song, not a reality for anyone, and offer insights on recognizing the symptoms of this virus.

I emphasize the importance of aligning our actions with our true purpose to combat this mind virus. I discuss the consequences of letting this virus run unchecked, including burnout, strained relationships, and, ironically, decreased productivity and creativity. To help listeners debug their lives, I provide practical steps like regular self-reflection, setting boundaries, and upgrading our mental operating systems. Remember, becoming a true commander of your life means actively fighting against the drift that this mind virus encourages.

Takeaways:

  • The work obsession virus is a mental framework that pushes us to work excessively

  • Symptoms include constant busyness, neglecting relationships and self-care, and inability to disconnect from work

  • Societal pressure and hustle culture contribute to the spread of this virus

  • Consequences include burnout, strained relationships, and decreased creativity

  • Combating the virus requires aligning actions with personal purpose

  • Regular self-reflection, setting boundaries, and upgrading mental habits are key to debugging your life

  • Becoming a true commander means actively fighting against the drift caused by this mind virus

Picture this: me, on a balcony, ocean stretching as far as the eye can see, and suddenly - BAM! - it hits me. We're all in this giant ocean called life, and so many of us are just... drifting.

Now, imagine being in a boat out there without a compass, motor, or even a decent paddle. Scary, right? Well, that's exactly how many of us are living our lives - no direction, no purpose, just rowing in circles and hoping for the best. But here's the kicker: we don't have to live that way!

Because let's face it, life's going to throw some stormy seas our way, but with a clear purpose, we can weather any storm.

Welcome to another episode of the Third Power Life podcast! In today's episode, I dive into a powerful metaphor from my farm upbringing: "Root hog, or die." This phrase, taught to me by my grandfather, perfectly encapsulates the relentless effort required to break free from life's confinements and achieve true freedom.

As I recently revamped my bookshelf, I stumbled upon an old book cover I created to manifest a goal – a reminder of the importance of visualizing our dreams and working tirelessly to make them a reality. I share personal stories from my past, including the cleverness of pigs on our farm and how their constant rooting under fences inspired this episode's message.

We discuss the importance of persistently working towards financial freedom, emotional well-being, and better relationships. Drawing from my coaching experiences and the principles of Robert Kiyosaki’s "Rich Dad Poor Dad," I highlight the journey to escape the 'rat race' and achieve true independence.

I encourage you to reflect on the cages you might find yourself in, whether they relate to your career, health, or personal growth. What steps are you taking to break free? Share your thoughts in the comments or direct message me on Instagram or Facebook @ThirdPowerPerformance.

Remember, it's either root hog or die – work to change your life or stay stuck forever. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and leave a comment. Your support helps spread the message. Keep living your life to the Third Power and keep rooting out of those cages!

Keep rooting!

Primary Takeaways:

  • The metaphor "Root hog, or die" emphasizes relentless effort to break free from life's confinements.

  • Visualizing your dreams can be a powerful motivator.

  • Persistently work towards financial freedom, emotional well-being, and better relationships.

  • Reflect on the cages you find yourself in and take steps to break free.

  • Achieving true independence requires ongoing effort and perseverance.

In this episode of the Third Power Life podcast, I dive into the vital concept of being coachable. Inspired by a thought-provoking idea I recently encountered, I discuss the significance of having a coachable mindset to truly thrive in life.

We all know that experience is a great teacher, but who says all those lessons need to come from our own mistakes? I share personal stories, reflecting on my 55 years of life and the myriad of lessons learned—often the hard way! You'll discover why embracing humility and openness to learning can fast-track your journey to success.

I recount some early mentorships, including how the wisdom of greats like Zig Ziglar, Jim Rohn, and Tony Robbins shaped my path—even if they were only available on cassette tapes back in the day! We explore the art of choosing the right mentors, staying true to your inner voice, and ensuring that guidance aligns with your personal purpose.

As a bonus, I touch on the beauty of the Round Table—a space where we all mentor and support each other, no matter how small the gap between our experiences. It's about paying it forward, building a legacy, and making the world a better place.

So, buckle up and get ready to be inspired. Let's learn, grow, and change the world together.

Keep living your life to the 3rd power!

Primary Takeaways

  • The Importance of Coachability: Being open to learning from others' experiences is crucial for personal growth and success.

  • Humility in Learning: Accepting that you don't know everything yet and seeking advice from those who have walked the path before you.

  • Choosing the Right Mentors: Finding mentors whose values and goals align with your own, and ensuring their guidance fits your personal purpose.

As I reflect on a crucial question that can impact our lives: who's around your table? The people we surround ourselves with have a profound influence on our thoughts, behaviors, and outcomes. By asking ourselves who we're surrounded by, what they're doing to us, and whether it's okay, we can begin to make intentional decisions about the relationships that shape our lives.

In today's episode, I share my favorite question from Jim Rohn - "Who am I around?" - and how it has helped me grow as a person. I also encourage you to take stock of who's at your table, whether in your personal or professional life, and consider whether they're helping you lead a purpose-driven life or simply drifting along.

  • Who's around your table can significantly impact your thoughts, behaviors, and outcomes

today we dove deep into the world of financial literacy—a topic I'm incredibly passionate about and a foundational piece of my Material Prosperity Triad. Financial education isn't just a nice-to-have; it's essential for leading a successful and independent life.

In today’s episode, I unpacked why keeping a close eye on your financial health is crucial and likened our financial statements to an adult report card. Just as kids get grades to track their school performance, adults need to regularly review their financial performance to ensure they're on the right track.

Let’s break down what we covered:

Understanding Financial Ratios: Know where you stand with key financial ratios like debt-to-income and savings-to-gross income. These are your benchmarks for financial health.

Building Assets: I discussed how creating assets, rather than accumulating liabilities, is key to making your money work for you. Inspired by principles from 'Rich Dad Poor Dad,' I explained the importance of generating passive income through investments like stocks, real estate, or even side businesses.

Financial Mindset: Finally, we explored the mindset around money. It’s essential to develop a healthy relationship with money and to view it as a tool, not a measure of worth.

If you’re keen on joining a conversation that goes beyond the basics to help you craft a Third Power Life, consider joining our upcoming Round Table program. It’s more than just financial advice—it’s about building a community and enhancing every aspect of your life.

Key Takeaways:

  • Financial literacy is fundamental to independence and success.

  • Treat your financial statement as your adult report card—check it regularly!

  • Focus on creating assets that provide passive income.

  • Assess and adjust your financial mindset for a healthier relationship with money.

In our latest episode, we've ventured into the cosmic phenomenon of an eclipse to draw out some illuminating lessons on self-improvement and personal growth. As I looked up into the sky, witnessing the moon's shadow dance across the sun, it struck me—aren't we all, in our quests for betterment, occasionally overshadowed by the very goals we chase? Yet, just as the eclipse promises, there's always light on the other side. I shared how this celestial event mirrors our own moments of challenge and achievement, offering a fresh perspective on the ebb and flow of life's trials and triumphs.

Diving deeper, I discussed how we, much like the moon, sometimes find ourselves obscuring our own light, only to rediscover it with renewed vigor and clarity. It's a journey filled with moments of darkness and overwhelming brilliance, each teaching us the value of patience, perseverance, and the importance of celebrating our wins, no matter how fleeting they may feel. This episode is more than just a conversation; it's an invitation to explore the shadows and lights of your own life, recognizing the beauty and growth in each phase of your personal eclipse.

Takeaways:

  • Life's challenges, just like an eclipse, are temporary. Embrace the darkness, knowing the light will return.

  • Success and achievements are moments of totality where we shine our brightest, reminding us to savor these instants while they last.

  • The importance of seeking assistance or simply taking a moment to rest in the darker times, ensuring we're ready when the light begins to shine again.

  • Like the unpredictable yet awe-inspiring nature of an eclipse, our journeys too are filled with unexpected moments of joy and learning.

Today, I want to talk to you about the final push in finishing projects, something I'm sure you're all too familiar with. I've been there, struggling with the Round Table program, teetering on the edge of launch but held back by unforeseen challenges. It reminded me of something my mentor once said, "The last 10% of any project takes 90% of the time." This episode is all about navigating through that frustrating final stretch, transforming resistance into a launchpad for success. My journey was cluttered with self-doubt and procrastination until I tackled it with a detailed project plan and a shift in mindset. I discovered, as I hope you will, that imperfect action trumps stagnation every time.

For successful professionals with families, time is a treasure chest that's always depleting. I know that finishing projects, especially the ones fueled by passion rather than obligation, often takes a backseat in our hectic lives. But here, I've distilled the essence of pushing past that resistance—illustrated through my struggle and breakthrough with the Round Table program. It's a testament to the power of agile methodologies, the importance of reframing self-narratives, and the sheer force of will required to cross the finish line. Let's redefine what our 'final 10%' looks like, together.

Takeaways:

  • The Law of the Final 10%: Understanding that the ending phase of any project is disproportionately time-consuming can prepare us for the uphill battle.
  • Power of Planning: A detailed project plan can transform an overwhelming task into manageable steps, clarifying the path to completion.
  • Reframing the Narrative: Changing the stories we tell ourselves about our abilities can significantly impact our productivity and overall success.
  • Imperfect Action: Embracing imperfection in initial execution can be the difference between stagnation and progression.
  • Seeking Support: Leveraging your support system for accountability and motivation can help maintain momentum in challenging times.

For a long time I have understood the importance of saying "NO". I learned to embrace this word. It wasn't easy, I'll tell you that. Understanding the many boundaries needed to safeguard my time and energy was a game-changer. Imagine, every time we say yes to one thing, we're saying no to a multitude of others. That's a lot of no's, right? And yet, embarking on this journey to assert 'No' more confidently has begun to clear the clutter, streamline my focus, and ironically, opened up more doors to what truly aligns with my purpose. Let's dive together into transforming our busy 'Yes' lifestyle into a purpose-driven 'No' pathway!

Taking the advice of a mentor, I started scrutinizing my commitments through the lens of my purpose. Think of those moments where 'maybe' is just a softer 'no', and yet we hesitate. Whether it was opting out of that seductive fast food for lunch or ending the binge-watching cycles, aligning my actions with my aspirations meant embracing 'No'. And it doesn't stop there. It's about knowing our capacity, recognizing our true worth, and practicing the manifestation of 'No' to shape a life of authenticity and third-power living. Let's practice together; the first 'No' starts now.

Takeaways:

  • Every 'Yes' carries the weight of a thousand 'No's.

  • Align your commitments with your grand purpose.

  • Understand your capacity; set realistic boundaries for a sustainable lifestyle.

  • Practice saying 'No'—it's not rejection, it's selecting your priorities.

  • Your purpose is your compass; let 'No' guide your journey to fulfillment.

In this episode of Third Power Life I am asking "Who is around your table,?" It is one of my all-time favorite topics – the incredible impact our personal and professional circles have on our lives. You've probably heard me say it before, but Jim Rohn's three pivotal questions always get me thinking: Who am I around? What are they doing to me? And is that okay? These questions aren't just food for thought; they're the main course in our journey toward fulfillment and success.

Now, let's talk diversity. It's not just a buzzword; it's the secret sauce to a thriving circle. Remember, no cloning allowed at this round table! We're talking diverse backgrounds, opinions, and experiences, all marching towards a common purpose. And speaking of purpose, I'm super excited about the Round Table program I'm working on. It's like a fantasy league, but for personal and professional growth, and you're all invited to join the founding members.

But here's the kicker – it's not just about who's at your table; it's also about what you bring to it. Are you a giver, a taker, or the best of both worlds? It's all about that give and take, folks. And let's not forget about the personal side of things. Having buddies to chat about everything from technology to family life over a cold one can be a game-changer for life balance.

So, who are the knights at your round table? Are they lifting you up, challenging you, and keeping you accountable? That's what we're exploring in this episode. And remember, this isn't just about me talking at you; it's about us learning and growing together. So, grab your seat at the table, and let's dive into this journey of discovery.

Key Takeaways:

  • Diversity is Key: Surround yourself with a mix of backgrounds and perspectives to enrich your personal and professional growth.

  • Purpose-Driven Connections: Ensure your circle shares a common goal or purpose that aligns with your own.

  • Reciprocity Matters: Strive for a balance of giving and taking within your relationships to build a supportive network.

  • Personal Accountability: Regular check-ins with your circle can help maintain your focus and life balance.

  • Evaluate Your Circle: Regularly assess who's at your table and their impact on your journey towards success.

00:24 - Welcome to the Success Table

03:04 - The Mix of Your Success Brew: Diversity

06:00 - The Shared Path: Synergy in Networks

In the latest episode, I dove into the ever-so-crucial world of Continuous Self-Improvement. You know, as I sat down with a steaming cup of coffee this fine morning, I got to thinking - about us. About our relationships. Michael J. Fox once said, "Family is not AN important thing. It's EVERYTHING," and man if that doesn't hit home. So, in today's podcast episode, I dive deep into the art of nurturing our crucial bonds amidst the flurry of our 9-to-5's. It's all about legacy, my friends, about creating that sanctuary for our families, and not letting the grind tear us away from the very reason we're grinding in the first place.

We're all guilty of it, right? Too busy earning money to remember the "why" behind it all. But I'm here to share some real talk on how we can flip the script. I've lived it—the long hours, the grinding fatigue, the relationships slipping through my fingers. And I've turned it around. Where there's a will (and a little ingenuity), there's always a way. Let me walk you through my journey and the nuggets of wisdom I've gathered along the way. It's time to give our relationships the TLC they deserve because if we're rocking it at work but our home life is on the rocks, then friends, we've missed the mark. So, let's roll up our sleeves and get to it. #FamilyOverEverything #WorkLifeBalance

Takeaways:

  • Family is everything: Prioritize your relationships over work - they are your legacy.

  • Quality over quantity: It's about making the moments count, not counting the moments.

  • Make it routine: Simple gestures and daily rituals show you care, like the morning coffee ritual with my wife.

  • Dinner time is bonding time: No matter how hard, get everyone to the dinner table - it's worth it.

  • Open communication: Share your life and listen to your loved ones; sometimes, they don't need a solution, just an ear.

  • Self-care is key: Taking care of yourself is crucial to being there for others and being the best partner and parent possible.

I'm taking you on a little adventure through my personal library, which is as varied as my taste in coffee (and let me tell you, that's pretty diverse). From the epic fantasy landscapes in the "Throne of Glass" series that have me on the edge of my seat, to the brain-boosting insights of Tony Robbins' "Moneymaster the Game," I'm all over the map – literally and literarily!

I've got a soft spot for the smell of a good book, the kind that invites you into its world with just a whiff of its pages. And yes, I'm talking about those real, physical books, the kind you can hug (and believe me, I do). But let's not forget the digital companions that make carrying a library around as easy as pie – handy, but they sadly lack that new book scent.

Now, here's where it gets interesting: I want to know what's on your shelf. What gems have you uncovered that you think I should dive into? This isn't just me talking books at you; it's a two-way street. Let's swap titles like we're trading cards – I'm game if you are!

Books are our mentors, our escape, and sometimes, our best friends. Here's to the stories that shape us, the adventures that await, and the endless conversations about that one character we all love to hate. Summary:

Just got back from a late-night Magic the Gathering session with my boys, and wow, what an adventure it was! Not every game set hits the mark, and this murder mystery-themed one definitely had us wanting more. It sparked an interesting conversation on the way back, munching on snacks and sharing a collective "meh" about the experience. It got me thinking about the echo chambers we inadvertently create, not just in card games but in life. How often do we find ourselves echoing the same sentiments, reinforcing our own beliefs without even realizing it?

But here's a twist - what if we could transform these echo chambers into something powerful? Imagine a chamber reverberating with success, positivity, and change. Join me in this episode as we explore breaking the cycle of repetition and tuning into a frequency of growth and positivity. It's time to amplify the good vibes and turn our echo chambers into engines of inspiration!

Takeaways:

  • Not every experience will meet our expectations, but there's always a lesson to be learned.
  • The conversations we have can often become echo chambers, reinforcing our existing beliefs.
  • It's essential to be mindful of the echo chambers we're part of and consciously choose positivity.

I had an eye-opening experience on my flight to St. Louis. It was more than just a routine flight; it became a pivotal moment for profound self-reflection on health and well-being. Barely ten minutes after takeoff, a gentleman was ill, and they had to ask if there was a medical professional on board. This incident, coupled with the struggles of several passengers who found it difficult to stand up, resonated deeply with me, especially following our recent conversations about the significance of strength training and overall fitness.

This mid-flight incident served as a stark reminder of how critical it is to maintain our health, not just for the sake of longevity but for quality of life. As I shared my personal health journey with you, including the ongoing battle with the double chin and the importance of physical well-being, it became clear that taking care of ourselves is a lifelong commitment. Whether it's spiritual, mental, or physical balance, it's all interconnected, and we must focus on each aspect to achieve true self-mastery. The episode is not just a recount of a journey through the skies but a call to action to prioritize our well-being at all times.

Takeaways:

  • Health and well-being are non-negotiable, especially as we age and our bodies change.

  • Small daily efforts in taking care of our health can lead to significant long-term benefits.

  • The balance of physical, mental, and spiritual health forms the foundation of a well-rounded life.

  • Personal progress, even if slow, is still progress worth acknowledging and celebrating.

  • It's essential to have a plan for maintaining one's health, recognizing our current state, and striving for improvement.

I had the eye-opening realization that strength training plays a vital role in health and overall quality of life. It all started during a visit to a home improvement store, where the simple act of lifting tile boxes became my wake-up call. I've been dedicated to my health journey this year, embracing routines with push-ups, jumping jacks, and the motivational "don't break the chain" method, but I overlooked the importance of building muscle. Unbeknownst to me, my strength had waned over time, highlighted by struggles with lifting boxes and drawing a compound bow – activities that once came effortlessly.

Facing these unexpected challenges head-on, I have now set my sights on incorporating resistance training into my regimen. While I value the impact of intermittent fasting and a consistent workout routine, I realize that strength is a game-changer not only for aesthetics but for enabling a higher-functioning, empowered life. Join me as I embrace this transformation and continue to explore the multifaceted approach to health. Whether it's lifting weights at the gym or lifting spirits through support and motivation, the journey towards empowerment continues.

Takeaways:

  • The importance of strength training for overall health, beyond just weight loss.

  • Intermittent fasting and in-home exercises can be complemented with resistance training for better results.

  • Practical experiences like lifting heavy boxes can serve as a catalyst for change.

In today's soul-stirring episode, I found myself in an introspective journey as I discussed the importance of looking beyond the mundane cycle of daily life. It all began with some wholesome family moments practicing archery and enjoying the great outdoors—a stark contrast to the tightly-packed suburban life I usually lead. But as the day unfolded, talks with my sons about their futures led me down a path of reflection on life's bigger picture. It's the kind of day that pulls you out of the routine and makes you confront those larger questions about where we see ourselves headed and what we truly want from life.

What followed was a heartfelt dialogue, first in the car then later on in my office, which doubled down on the importance of evaluating where we stand in life. Whether you're standing on the cusp of adulthood like my sons or more advanced in years, the message remains the same: it’s never too late to step back, assess your course, and make the necessary changes. Because let me tell you, time can slip by surprisingly fast. We often find ourselves stuck in a rut without even realizing it. That's why I urge you—it's time to evaluate your life, determine if your current path is truly satisfying, and make those bold moves towards fulfillment.

  • The importance of asking yourself regularly whether you are on the right path.

  • Acknowledging that time flies and emphasizing the urgency to act on personal goals.

  • The value in questioning whether your daily routines are aligned with your life's intended legacy.

  • Understanding that being "stuck" is a state that can only be recognized when one actively questions their satisfaction with life.

As a seasoned speaker and a parent of two incredible teenage boys, my latest episode delves into the nuanced dance of creating not only a parental bond but also a genuine friendship with your teenage children. It's a topic close to my heart, as I've experienced the profound joy and complex challenges that come with fostering a bond that transcends the traditional parent-child relationship. In this episode, I share my personal journey of finding common interests with my teens—whether that's throwing axes or playing Magic the Gathering—and how these shared activities have become a potent foundation for trust, respect, and enduring camaraderie.

Throughout the episode, I peel back the layers on how I've managed to walk the tightrope of being 'kind of cool' to my son's friends by treating them as equals, listening to them, and respecting their pronouns and individualities. I explore the importance of mutual respect, the shift from authority to influence during the teenage years, and why it's so critical to connect with teens on their level. In this heartfelt and candid discussion, I open up about the importance of shared interests not just in building a friendship, but in maintaining my role as a parent who can be both a confidant and a guide through the tumultuous waters of adolescence.

There was a moment last Thursday when I lay on the couch, battling COVID and the all-too-familiar whispers of doubt telling me to take a break. In this episode of the Third Power Life Podcast, I had a candid conversation about the beautiful, yet challenging dance of networking in midlife, and striking a delicate balance between home, work, and community involvement. Reflecting on a recent community service event, I shared my personal insights on how vital it is for us—as seasoned professionals—to step out of our comfort zones and engage with the world around us. The comforts of working from home have often left many of us isolated, so I emphasized the importance of connecting face-to-face and the rejuvenating power of social interaction—particularly after the reclusiveness many experienced during the pandemic years.

I also touched upon the humorous realization that came with acknowledging my own aging, as my wife and I found ourselves tired by early evening. It's a gentle reminder that time is passing and that our energy levels may change, but our capacity to contribute to our communities remains undiminished. The podcast wraps up with a simple, yet powerful message: To get out there, share our gifts, and serve as positive role models for others. Whether you have a family, are a solitary entrepreneur, or somewhere in between, it's about living life to the third power.

I shared how a simple background image depicting the qualities of a commander, set on my devices, serves as my daily reminder to live life on purpose. It's more than just a motivational tool; it's my compass, steering me away from the drift and ensuring that every hustle is imbued with intention, each step forward etching my legacy.

As I detailed my approach to maintaining focus on long-term goals and the embodying essence of a commander, it became clear how pivotal it is to visualize my purpose constantly. In today's episode, I look into the essence of truly letting go of the work mindset when transitioning into personal time. It's all too common for us to physically leave the office yet carry the heavy load of work tasks in our minds, stealing precious moments we should be spending with family or just unwinding. I shared my own struggles with this boundary and how I’ve come to realize the importance of being fully present, wherever I am. Whether it's implementing the 'Be Here Now' principle or consciously deciding to leave the work phone at the desk, the art of disconnecting is a pivotal aspect of leading a third power life.

I've also discussed practical tips that I've found incredibly useful in establishing a better work-life boundary. Setting specific times to check emails, turning off work notifications after hours, and embracing the freedom from constant connectivity are all strategies that can lead to more peace and efficiency in both the professional and personal realms. Remember, focusing on the now not only increases your productivity at work but also enriches the quality of your personal relationships and well-being. In this episode of the Third Power Life podcast, I delve into the heart of creativity and how essential it is to infuse it into both our professional and personal lives. I reminisce about my corporate days when I introduced 'Dan's Rules of the Team' to foster a workspace where creativity took center stage alongside productivity. It's not simply about the end product; it's about embracing the process of creation, whether it's dishing out a gourmet meal in the kitchen, experimenting with canvases and paints, or sprucing up a PowerPoint presentation. I urge all of you to integrate creative practices into your daily routines to ignite that spark of joy and fulfillment.

Throughout the podcast, I highlight my personal experiences with creativity - from preparing a sesame-crusted tuna that was inspired by cooking competition shows to sharing the fun of a 'Painting with a Twist' date night. As you tune in, you'll see how these moments became more than just tasks; they were catalysts for vibrant and balanced living. Allowing ourselves to be immersed in the act of making something, regardless of the outcome, can lead to transformative moments that energize our spirits. So let's make a pact to let our souls flourish through the art of creation - in whatever form that may be for each of us.

Takeaways:

  • Creativity enriches both our work and personal lives, leading to a more balanced existence.

  • You don't need to be an artist to be creative; everyday tasks can become opportunities for expression.

  • Taking time for creative pursuits can enhance mood and overall satisfaction.

  • Creative outputs don't have to meet external standards; the joy is in the creation process itself.

  • Being open to being 'terrible' at first is an essential step towards eventually excelling.

  • Share what you love with the world, or just with yourself – what matters is the act of creating.

In this latest episode of "The Third Power Life Podcast," I dive into the powerful connection between organization and creativity. I've always struggled with clutter myself and have felt its drain on my life energy and creative flow. As I share my personal challenges and insights, I explore how the seemingly minor mess that surrounds us can have a major impact on our ability to tap into our creative potential. A cluttered space can weigh heavy on the mind and soul, pulling attention and sapping energy. But when we clear our space, we clear the path to a more focused, vibrant, and inventive life.

I also break down the life balance triad with special emphasis on how 'stuff' can lead to imbalance. It's fascinating how the very things we accumulate - from books to knick-knacks - can end up owning us, rather than the other way around. By sharing tips from my life balance courses, I aim to inspire listeners to take control over their physical surroundings to reclaim their creativity and drive. It's an enlightening discussion that just might prompt you to tidy up your workspace and, in doing so, unlock a whole new level of creative brilliance.

In this thought-provoking episode, I delve into the paradox that lies within our daily habits—the routines that shape our lives, for better or for worse. As someone deeply entrenched in self-improvement literature, it's often preached that habits are the cornerstone of success. However, this morning, my reading from "The Daily Stoic" offered an insightful twist: habits can blind us to innovation and improvement. What if the comfort we find in routines is the very thing that hinders us? I recount personal experiences and insights from thought leaders, exploring why it's crucial to question the 'why' behind our actions, embracing even a smidge of laziness to promote efficiency and smart work over hard work.

In true rebellious spirit, I challenge the notion of 'that's how it's always been done,' examining corporate and familial traditions that might need upheaval for progress. The episode also touches upon the importance of evaluating whether our habits genuinely serve us or if they've become unquestioned commands we obey. I wrap up by encouraging listeners to live life to the third power and to remember that a healthy dose of skepticism towards our routines might just be the thing that propels us forward.

Takeaways from the episode:

  • Habits are double-edged swords: they need to be scrutinized.
  • Laziness, framed positively, can lead to efficiency and innovation.
  • The phrase "that's how it's always been done" can be detrimental to personal and corporate growth.
  • Habitual questioning keeps life and practices fresh and relevant.
  • Personal routine audits should be a regular practice.

In today's episode of Third Power Life, I dove deep into the art of smartphone usage that enhances our lives rather than detracting from it. I shared personal anecdotes and strategies that I've developed over time to maintain a healthy relationship with my mobile device. We talked about using the lock screen as a constant reminder of our life's mission, renaming app groups to serve as daily affirmations, and being conscious of the time we spend on our devices. It's all about finding that sweet spot where technology serves us, where I am commanding my path instead of being led astray by a screen. At night, I champion the importance of digital hygiene to ensure that our smartphones contribute to a restorative sleep, keeping do-not-disturb settings as a non-negotiable.

Following these insights, I've observed a significant shift in my focus and the quality of my interactions with others. By controlling our digital habits and intentionally directing how we interact with technology, we unleash the power to live more purposeful, balanced, and fulfilling lives. It isn't about perfection; it's about making incremental changes towards a more empowered and present existence. If you're curious about assessing your own life's command, I encourage you to take the Commander Survey and begin your journey to a more intentional digital life.

In this latest episode of my podcast, I explored the transformative power of compassion and how extending grace, not just to others but also to ourselves, can profoundly impact our journey of self-discovery and healing. I shared some deeply personal stories, including struggles during 2023—dealing with loss and the challenge to remain creative. As my content reaches more people, I've encountered both support and negativity. Rather than simply ignoring the trolls, I chose to engage with them from a place of understanding and empathy. This opened up conversations that taught me valuable lessons about interpreting criticism as care, rather than condemnation, and the importance of self-reflection on my health and wellness journey.

Throughout the episode, I emphasized the need for compassion, especially in today’s climate of divisiveness and strife. By assuming positive intent and being the beacon of grace and kindness, we not only nurture our third power life but also contribute to a more understanding world. Remember, it takes immense strength to choose empathy over ego – an act far from weakness, but instead one of profound courage.

In the latest episode of our podcast journey, I tackle the intricacies of aligning willpower with growth and legacy goals. It's been a real struggle at times, I'll admit – between battling illness and personal challenges, I've come face to face with the kind of resistance that can derail even the best of intentions. But I persevere, powered by the understanding that true commitment comes with its tests, and each hurdle is a confirmation that I'm on the path to something greater. I share my personal experiences with overcoming resistance, insights from Steven Pressfield’s “The War of Art”, and the importance of setting goals that transcend the usual achievement-based targets. For anyone out there on their own journey towards growth and legacy building, this episode is a testament to the power of persistence and the strength of a will fortified by greater purpose.

The conversation isn't just about enduring – it's about thriving through adversity and coming out on top. As someone who's spent years fine-tuning my sleep for maximum productivity and balance, I've come to respect the intriguing dance of sleep cycles. I've discovered that a standard sleep cycle lasts about 90 minutes, which is crucial to consider when planning your rest. Whether it's avoiding the grogginess of waking mid-cycle, or leveraging a power nap to recharge, I've learned that timing is everything. And did you know that your body repairs itself in deep sleep while your mind rejuvenates during REM? Fascinating! It's insights like these that have helped me sharpen my mind and optimize my sleep experience.

Incorporating this knowledge into my daily routine has unlocked new levels of vitality and clarity for me. Aim for 7.5 hours to tap into the full cycle, but if time's short, remember: a 20-minute nap can work wonders! Since sleep is such a powerful lever on the path to a vibrant third power life, I've become passionate about sharing these secrets.

In the latest episode of our podcast, I delve deep into the profound parallels between the natural storms that rage in Florida's skies and the metaphorical tempests that can disrupt our personal lives. I share intimate details of my own turbulent year – the loss of my parents, job transitions, and the constant caretaking that likened my life to a landscape awaiting a tornado's unpredictable visit. It was a time of lightning-flash changes and thunder-like warnings, and yet, here I am, reflecting on the power of resilience and the importance of finding your eye in the storm.

I've learned that braving life's storms isn't about building a shelter against what might happen; it's about learning to dance in the rain and understand that the anxiety of anticipating disaster is often more destructive than the event itself. Whether we're listening for tornadoes or facing the challenges of daily life, it's essential to let go of the fear, to accept the worst-case scenario, and to keep moving forward. You're stronger than you think, and sometimes, by letting go, you discover you're okay. Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass; it's about learning to thrive amidst the chaos.

Resilience #MentalWellness #LifeLessons #StressManagement #ChaosCalm #StormyMinds #InnerPeaceJourney #CrisisWisdom

Takeaways

  • Storms in life are inevitable, but they don't have to consume us with fear and anxiety.

  • Worrying about the worst-case scenario is often more damaging than the actual storm itself.

  • Letting go of worry and living without fear allows us to embrace the Third Power Life.

  • No matter what happens, we are stronger than we think and will be able to handle it.

In today's episode of the Third Tower Life podcast, I delved into the remarkable influence of a small but mighty word we often overlook - 'No.' As toddlers, we wielded the word with power, but as adults, we seem to have lost touch with its potential. I explored how reconnecting with our ability to say 'no' ties directly into the clarity of purpose that we discussed previously. This clarity acts as a beacon, guiding our decisions and filtering opportunities against our ultimate goals. I emphasized that every 'yes' is a commitment that inherently says 'no' to alternative pursuits; hence, it's vital to be selective and focus on what truly serves our life mission.

I shared a personal revelation about my transformation from a chronic people-pleaser to someone who values their goals enough to turn down distractions. It's not about being negative, but rather affirming your priorities. I assure you, learning to say 'no' is not just about decluttering your calendar or budget, but it's an empowering stand you take for the life you want. If it doesn't bring you closer to your purpose, the answer should be a firm 'no,' unless, of course, it's an unequivocal 'hell yes.' By keeping this in mind, you too can experience the significant shift in self-perception and life satisfaction that I have. And just before you go, take a moment to assess where you stand in your life's journey with The Commander Survey, a tool I designed to help you pinpoint your position and advance to the next level. In today's episode of the Third Power Life podcast, I opened the conversation with a raw reflection of the past year, acknowledging the challenges, including the personal hardships such as the loss of my parents. Despite these tribulations, I shared the invaluable practice of journaling that has aided me in cataloging triumphs and setbacks, thereby highlighting the strength that comes from a thoroughly reviewed life. The crux of our talk circled around a concept that resonates profoundly with me - Clarity of Purpose. As the calendar turns to 2024, I am reinvigorated to share insights on how crystal clear vision is the cornerstone of 90% of success, a lesson taught by a mentor that has stayed with me since the late 90s.

Pivoting to action, I delved into the importance of having a personal purpose that acts as your life's lighthouse, guiding you through the rough waters and towards your aspiration shore. I recounted my own journey; how my purposes evolved over time, echoing the human emotion in the song "Cat's in the Cradle," and addressing the shifts in my goals from public speaking aspirations to impacting lives through this very podcast. To all my listeners seeking direction, I extend an invitation to step into this season of introspection with intention. Just a few weeks ago, I faced one of the hardest things in life – saying goodbye to my mother on October 15th. It's been tough, and honestly, it took a lot for me to even talk about it. They say sharing our pain can help sort through it and maybe even bring some meaning to all the hurt. I'm sharing this not just for myself, but to honor my mother and maybe give a little comfort to someone else who's swimming against the same current of grief. This year hit hard with both my parents passing away, and it feels like I’m learning to walk in a world where their hands aren't there to hold me up.

Just a week before she passed, I spent one of those rare, perfect days with my mom. We had the chance to just hang out, look through old photos, and laugh over stories from our trip to England, Scotland, and Ireland. We sat on the porch that day, soaking in the peace and the company, with no clue that it would be our last real talk. That day sticks with me now, teaching me louder than ever that we need to hit 'pause' on being busy all the time so we can really be there with the people we care about.

So here's the heart of it: Live in the now, spread the love on purpose, and take in those little bits of time like they're the biggest deal – because they are. If talking about my journey can shine a light for even one person, if it can remind you to hug your loved ones a little tighter, then it's worth it. In sharing these stories, I'm honoring the #LifeLessons from my mother, cherishing the #InMemory times that are too brief but stick with you forever, and putting #FamilyFirst. I’m learning to #CherishEveryMoment – something you should too, because trust me, #TimeIsPrecious.

In the latest episode of the Third Power Life Podcast, I talk about an immense eye-opening revelation I had during a coaching session—the ‘5-Year rule’. This unique approach helps manage stress, workload and improves your overall quality of life. Essentially, I ask you to scrutinize every task or source of stress in your life and evaluate whether it will matter in five years. What you'll find is that the majority of tasks that keep us on the edge, won't impact our future at all. The negative effects of stress, however, will leave a more lasting impact.

This episode acts as a gentle reminder saying—“Don’t sweat the small stuff”. It’s more important to prioritise mental and physical health over temporal tasks. Finally, the real question to ponder on is "Where do you want to be in five years?" Use the 5-Year rule as your own personal litmus test for balance and focus. Let's aim for a life that's calm, productive and leads us closer to our envisioned future. Before ending a delightful chat, I invite you all to take the Commander Survey available in the show notes. This quick survey will help you assess your current position on your growth journey and guide you to take the next essential steps.

In this episode of the Third Power Life Podcast, I delve into the importance of making every day count. This concept, though seemingly obvious, is often overlooked in our fast-paced, digitally-driven lives. I share a powerful insight from a mentor who reminded me that we don't know how many days we have on this earth, and therefore, every day is an opportunity to make an impact. I also discuss the pitfalls of digital distractions and how they can rob us of our precious time, leaving us feeling unfulfilled and adrift.

I challenge you to take control of your life by setting aside focused time each day to work on what truly matters. Whether it's a personal project, spending quality time with loved ones, or planning for your future, dedicating at least 20 minutes a day can make a significant difference. I also introduce the One Thing Challenge, a simple yet transformative exercise that can help you live a more intentional and fulfilling life. In this episode I delve into the intriguing concept of living life as a "Drifter" versus a "Commander." I passionately discuss the difference between the two, illustrating how having a clear personal purpose can revolutionize your life.

As I explain, a Drifter is someone who meanders through life without a clear purpose or direction, often feeling a sense of wasted potential. A Commander, on the other hand, is someone who knows who they are, understands their purpose, and is actively pursuing their goals.

Throughout the episode, I emphasize the importance of having a clear purpose, which I believe leads to independent thought, confident decision-making, resilience in the face of adversity, and emotional control. I also stress the importance of strong self-discipline and maintaining a positive environment.

I outline five stages that people go through: Drifter, Seeker, Navigator, Warrior, and Commander. Each stage represents a step closer to becoming a Commander, a person who is in control of their life and actively pursuing their purpose.

Are you a Drifter, a Seeker, a Navigator, a Warrior, or a Commander? There's only one way to find out. I invite you to take the Commander Survey to discover where you are on the Drifter to Commander continuum. Visit https://www.thirdpowerperformance.com/commander-survey to take the survey.

In this podcast episode, I shared the valuable lesson I learned from my coach, Marc, which is that new levels equal new devils. As we grow and progress in life, it's natural for us to encounter more significant challenges, much like in a video game. These "boss battles" push us to continue evolving and help us live our lives to the third power. It's important to understand that facing difficulties is a part of life, and they change as we grow. However, we become better equipped to handle these challenges as we gain experience and learn from previous obstacles.

I also emphasized the importance of having a coach or mentor to guide us through life's challenges, and remembering to utilize the skills and tools we've acquired along the way. We must not be disheartened when we face new devils, but instead, embrace them as opportunities for growth and learning. Remember, facing these challenges and overcoming them is what makes life exciting and worth living. So, keep moving forward and live your life to the third power.

As Zig Ziglar once said, "It's your lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem." This statement holds true, and it's something that we need to keep in mind when it comes to our own lives. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, but it's how we use those hours that sets us apart. In this episode, we dive into the importance of having a clear sense of purpose and direction in our lives, and how it's the key to maximizing our time.

It's easy to get caught up in the chaos of everyday life and feel like we don't have enough time to do everything we need to do. But the truth is, it's not about the amount of time we have, it's about how we use it. By taking command of our lives and focusing on our goals and priorities, we can make the most of our 24 hours. It's all about being the commander, not the drifter. So let's stop blaming time for our lack of progress and start taking action towards our desired direction.

In today's society, there is an unhealthy obsession with productivity and busyness. However, constantly being on the go can lead to burnout and a loss of true relaxation. In this episode, I share my personal struggle with always feeling the need to be productive, even during times of rest, and how it can be detrimental to our mental and emotional well-being.

I encourage listeners to take the time to truly relax, without trying to make it productive. Whether it's going for a walk in nature, listening to calming music, or simply sitting and pondering, it's important to take a break from constant stimulation and allow our minds to recharge. By doing nothing, we give ourselves the opportunity to let go of stress and find inner peace. So, let's all make a conscious effort to prioritize true relaxation in our lives and live to the third power.

Hey there, it's Dan Gentry, and I am so excited to share with you the power of acts of kindness and how they can take you from stress to serenity. In today's world, we are constantly bombarded with pressures and stress, and it can be overwhelming. But I have found that by being of service and making a difference in someone's life, no matter how small, can truly make a world of difference in your own life.

During this episode, I dive into the importance of philanthropy and how it is often overlooked in the realm of life balance. I share personal experiences of how simple acts of kindness, such as a smile or holding a door open, can have a profound impact on someone's day. And the best part? You don't have to be a billionaire to make a difference. It's the little things that count, and it can start with a simple gesture like helping someone with their groceries or putting a quarter in someone's parking meter. Trust me, the feeling of making a positive impact in someone's life is priceless, and it's a surefire way to reduce stress levels and increase serenity. So, let's make the world a better place, one act of kindness at a time.

In tonight's episode of Third Power Life, I talk about my recent experience joining an axe throwing league and how it's become a great release for me to let go of stress and have some fun. As someone who's always in front of a screen, it's important for me to find activities that get me out of the house and get me moving. Axe throwing has been a great solution for me, and I encourage others to find their own stress-relieving hobby.

During my league games tonight, I realized that overthinking can be our own worst enemy. After trying to fix my throws on a particularly challenging lane, I kept missing shots because I was getting in my own head. Once I let go and stopped overthinking, I was able to relax and hit the bullseye. This experience reminded me of the importance of letting go and having fun, without overcomplicating things. Join me on Third Power Life to discover the benefits of finding your own stress-relieving hobby and the unexpected lessons it can teach us.

In this episode, we explore the concept of perseverance and resilience through a quote by Winston Churchill. Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it's the courage to continue that counts. We discuss the importance of having a purpose in life to help us stay in command of our lives and to keep us going in the face of challenges. It's not just about earning a certain amount of money or achieving a particular goal, it's about something grand that will take more than just the time we have left in this life.

Failure is an event, not a person, and is an opportunity to learn and refine our approach. We also talk about how fear is an inherent part of the journey towards a purpose and being a commander of your own life, and how courage is about feeling the fear and taking action anyway. It's about being uncomfortable and pushing through it. The courage to continue is what takes our life to the third power, and by understanding that failures are not fatal and that success is not final, we can keep going and keep growing.

In the latest episode of the Third Power Life podcast, I share my excitement about a new word I learned - Prohairesis. Rooted in the philosophy of stoicism, Prohairesis is about the power of choice, intention, and will. It's the ability to choose how we respond to what happens to us, even in the face of adversity. By becoming mentally invincible, we can set our sails to navigate life's challenges with ease and stay in control of ourselves, no matter what comes our way.

In the episode, I explain how Prohairesis is the key to developing self-control, managing difficult situations, and becoming the commander of our own lives. I share practical examples of how to apply the principles of Prohairesis in our everyday lives, from handling media interviews to navigating personal crises. This empowering philosophy helps us stay level-headed and in control, even in times of difficulty. So tune in to the episode and learn how you can unlock the power of Prohairesis to live your life to the third power.

In our fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the constant stream of information and feel like we need to stay on top of everything. However, according to Stoic philosophy, this is not necessary and can even be detrimental to our well-being.

This episode highlights the idea that we do not need to know every aspect of the latest news and events to be informed and engaged in the world. In fact, staying constantly plugged in can lead to feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, and disconnection from our own lives and values. By intentionally disconnecting from media, we can create space for reflection, connection with loved ones, and pursuing meaningful activities.

My father passed away on January 12th, 2023.

I have been away from recording and social media. It was a time to mourn and reflect…

My father said when we took him to the hospital at the end of december that he had lived the life he wanted. He had done all the things he really wanted to do.

As sad and heartbreaking as it was, it made me wonder.. Could I say that? If it were me in that bed, could I say I have done everything I want to do?

My answer is "no"…  There is still a lot of music left in me that I need to share and get out.

I invite you on my journey to let it out into the universe…

This podcast is my reflection of the past month or so…  I hope it speaks to you…

I have been working on the finishing touches of my new program for finding your purpose. A part of the program is defining true ultimate success in all areas of Life Balance.

As I was working on prompts for the Physical Body section, I wrote an interesting question.

This question was so powerful for motivating me, that I had to share.

"What Limitations are You Willing to Live With?"

When you don’t want to get up to go to the gym, or you are tired and not wanting to work on your side business, ask yourself: Am I willing to live with the limitations skipping the hard work will impose?

Interesting reading in today's Daily Stoic…  all about a Higher Power…  It talks about the 12-step program and how many people get caught on step 2: acknowledging a higher power…

I will admit, this is one of my greatest challenges with most religions… giving up control to God…

So this episode is a bit different… it is me musing about this idea of giving up control of life.

What does it look like to surrender to the happenings of the universe?

"The lottery is a tax on people who are bad at math"

--Dan Gentry

But I played it anyway!

I bought my ticket today.. I really don’t play the lottery very often, but when it gets to a billion and a half dollars, I don't mind spending a few dollars for the entertainment value… (I never spend more than $10)

The real value of the ticket for me is it reawakens my inner dreaming child…

As we grow up, our ability to dream takes a beating…

I have never been in a corporate job that encourages fanciful dreaming… Quite the opposite…

But when you start to wonder… "What would I do with a BILLION dollars?"

Go to space? Pay off the debts of everyone I like? Buy a hot air balloon? Travel everywhere? Personally fund that show that you hated they cancelled?

What would it be??

The crazier the better…

Experience that joy again that we had when we were five…

Let it fill that parched part of your soul that has been dying from lack of use… The part that the "real world" of economics and politics and bleh tries to crush…

Wake up your inner child!

Come play with me… It is time for fun and fantasies… Even if for only a little while..

"If you don’t take time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness"

Read that again…

I have known for over a decade that I needed to get my weight under control. I always wanted to do it, even did several temporarily successful "diets"..

But they were hard to maintain and there had to be meal plans, and I had to get buy in from my family, and I got cravings, and, and, and…

In other words, it was hard...

Then in January, I wasn't feeling well, and decided to check my blood pressure… 200/137…

I have never had an app on my phone freak out before…. It was like "You are in hypertensive crisis!! GO TO THE HOSPITAL NOW!!"

I was able to get medicine and am (obviously) still here and doing fine. But my Dr told me I MUST get exercise and lose weight.

It really scared me. I realized I was paying a heavy price for my lack of discipline over the past years. I have now started a true lifestyle change with REAL exercise. I have a ways to go yet, but you cannot change 20 years of bad habits with a month or two of good deeds.

But this is not part of my Quest. It is part of my Legacy to make sure I am here and healthy for my family and to realize my Personal Purpose.

I had an old mentor that told me you either pay the cost of success, or you will pay to price for failure.

We have to learn how to create that pressure in ourselves to move now. To take uncomfortable action now, so that we can leave a legacy for our future.

There are always things that happen to us that we wish did not. The question is: Which is easier to change, our opinion of what happened or the event itself.

I remember in 2001/2002 in a 4 month period I lost my family (divorce), I lost my job, and I lost my father…  It was a horrible time…  I can look back now and see the lessons I needed to learn in my life, and I can almost look back at that time in fondness… Almost…  I am grateful for what I learned from that time, and what is is allowing me to share with you.

So understand, whatever you are going through right now, there is a path forward and life will get better. And whatever things you have been through in the past, look at how they can serve you in the present and future.

You paid the price, might as well use to the best of your ability what was paid for...

This is one of my favorite quotes that really speaks to today's podcast is:

“Motivation is when your dreams put on work clothes”

― Benjamin Franklin

I love this quote.

Yesterday, I talked about taking time out and making sure we take the time to recharge. It is vitally important… But it is also important to remember not to stay there.. :)

We have to make progress on our true dreams.

When we find our Quest, our powerful Personal Purpose, we need to make sure we are progressing towards it every day. Even if it is a tiny baby step.

That is where motivation comes from. Forward progress on a worthy dream.

I was working on my 'The QUEST: Find your Personal Purpose' program this weekend.. I finished up one part and immediately, almost anxiously, started looking for what to do next.. It was stressing me out. I realized I was getting out of balance...

There is this strong pressure on us to always be doing something.. Achieving something…

We have to be constantly productive…

As I had this happen to me this weekend, I remembered a phrase a mentor told me when I was trying to recover from a life out of balance… They said, "We are human 'BE'ings not human 'DO'ings"

I had to remind myself of that today, and wanted to remind you of it too…

Take the time to go out and get away from technology and the distractions of our modern world.  Get into nature, even if it is your own back yard…

The language we use, especially in our inner talk is critically important.

I have been a dreamer all my life. However, I have NOT always been a doer.

I have been waiting for "one day" to come along for a LONG time…

Here is a secret, it will never come. You have to go to it!

That is the difference between "one day" and "day one"…

"One Day" is waiting on some magic fairy or lottery ticket to make our dreams come true.

"Day One" is a sign to the universe that we are willing to work for what is important in our lives.  That is a major difference!

Self-Improvement is near and dear to my heart. It has been a passion for many years.  However, I was reading my Daily Stoic the other day, and it talked about how important the why behind your self-improvement is.

Do you want six-pack abs to challenge yourself and achieve a difficult goal, or do you just want to look good with your shirt off? Do you want a nice car for the safety and comfort, or just to make other's jealous?

The why behind the actions matters.

This is why your Personal Purpose is so important.

Liminal Spaces… Liminal space is a place of transition, a threshold between two points, signaling the end of one time or space, and the beginning of another.

The space between what was and what is to come..

In horror movies, the scariest part is not where the bad guy/thing jumps out at us.. It is in the lead-up… the tension builds…

Following our quest is the same.. In order for us to make progress, we have to leave what "was" behind and move into "what is to come"…  This is where the fear awaits…

We must have the courage to pass through these spaces to have success…

I love spending time in airports… I alyways get to meet interesting people.

One of the people I met on Friday was a nice lady headed back to Florida.. She was on the standby list and I could access the standby list on my Delta app… (She was the last one on the list)

We started talking about work, and how she would really like the ability to work remotely, but right now she just works at a big retailer and it doesn’t seem possible.

My message was simple. Stay positive! And limitations are self-imposed. It is entirely possible to find something you love to do in a remote position. Will it be easy, will it be on the first try? Of course not. But if you set your purpose in a direction, you will be amazed with where things will take you.

"Your job is not to plug the holes, your job is to steer the ship"

One of the bigest challenges I have faced is the desire to "do it myself". Delegation is hard at first. As you grow through your organization you are rewarded and promoted for your ability to "patch the holes". But there comes a point where your role is no longer to do the patching yourself, but to help others grow in their ability to patch the holes.

Our job as a leader is to give our team the opportunity to grow and learn.

We don’t have to solve every problem, we just need to make sure all the problems get solved.

In order for us to become great at anything, we first have to be terrible at it..

As I have watched my podcast following, for a long time, it was a very slow listenership.. But I kept at it, and now after 100+ episodes, I am finally seeing movement and people are starting to listen.

But it was being willing to not be great, to make mistakes, that allowed that to happen.

What are you willing to be terrible at, so you can be great?

One of my favorite concepts in Physics is Entropy… It is the Second Law of Thermodynamics…

Any ordered isolated system will move towards chaos. And we, as humans, are an isolated system…

If you are not adding energy into any area of your life, it will move to chaos.  Don't exercise? (Energy into physical body) Your body will become flabby and sick (chaos).

The same concept applies to all 9 areas of life balance.

One of my favorite books and movies is the Lord of the Rings. The scene where Samwise Gamgee talk about the great stories brings me to tears each time.

It is so important as we go through these dark times to remember that it is just a passing shadow. Remember, there is good in this world and it is worth fighting for.

I overheard a conversation about managing people working on a corporate team, and the need to get rid of them if there were any challenges with them. "Some people may think I'm mean, but it's 'just business'"

I have a visceral reaction to the concept of justifying coldness in the name of "it's just business".

My whole ethos surrounds the concept of the Infinite Game. Growing people, helping them morph into what they need to be. I don’t see people as cogs in a machine. We are all part of the greater whole organism and we all grow and change to make it better.

It just really upset me, and I wanted to share my thoughts with you.

Our brains, especially the subconscious, do not understand negatives. For instance, if I tell you to NOT think about a giraffe, you are going to think of a giraffe.

We need to make sure we are using positive commands. If we say "don't let me forget my keys" the command to the subconscious is: "forget keys".  Instead use "help me remember my keys". The command: "remember keys"

It is so easy to stay in the comfort zone. To stay with what we know is possible. But that is not the path of growth or greatness.

To persue our Quest, we have to push on what we think is possible. To do that, we have to push past into what we think is impossible.

Any time I can intertwine Dr. Who and an inspirational message, it is a good day!

"Winning? Is that what you think it's about? I'm not trying to win. I'm not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because I want to blame someone. It's not because it's fun. God knows it's not because it's easy. It's not even because it works because it hardly ever does.. I DO WHAT I DO BECAUSE IT'S RIGHT! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind! It's just that.. Just kind. If I run away today, good people will die. If I stand and fight, some of them might live. Maybe not many, maybe not for long. Hey, you know, maybe there's no point to any of this at all. But it's the best I can do. So I'm going to do it. And I will stand here doing it until it kills me. And you're going to die too! Some day.. And how will that be? Have you thought about it? What would you die for? Who I am is where I stand.. Where I stand is where I fall. Stand with me. These people are terrified. Maybe we can help a little. Why not, just at the end, just be kind?" - The Doctor

Don't be lazy in thought.

From my reading of Rich Dad, he mentions how his rich dad forbade fim from saying "I can't afford it", instead ask "How can I afford it?". Because the first shuts down your brain, and the second puts your mind to work for you.  "I can't afford it" is being lazy.

The same goes for all areas of our lives. We will mentally shut down with "I can’t afford it" or "I cant to it" or "there's no way".. It is being mentally lazy…

I want to present my talk "The Power of Purpose: Find your Quest"… I had some great help from special friends to refine how I tell my story and for that I am more grateful than you know.

My first version was good. I liked it. I had written it out in my journal. Tweaked it, then recorded it… Sent it off to my review board.. They said it was good, but there was not enough "me" in it.. I did a few more versions.. Added in a few stories, tweaked my notes.. Eh.. It was better.. Then, as I was uploading my latest version, I decided to do one more.. Just off the cuff, no script, just me to you.. And that was magic.

Even if I am not selected this year, the clarity I gained through the process of applying was priceless.

I have been whining a lot lately… I realized that and had to put a stop to it and remember that I am responsible for my life and complaining was not good for my self-respect.

Then I found a great quote by Joan Didion:

“To live without self-respect is to lie awake some night, beyond the reach of warm milk, phenobarbital, and the sleeping hand on the coverlet, counting up the sins of commission and omission, the trusts betrayed, the promises subtly broken, the gifts irrevocably wasted through sloth or cowardice or carelessness. However long we postpone it, we eventually lie down alone in that notoriously uncomfortable bed, the one we make ourselves. Whether or not we sleep in it depends, of course , on whether or not we respect ourselves.”

So I want to talk about creating Self-Respect.

But, as Jim Rohn says "Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better"

In today's episode we discuss this desire, the dangers of shortcuts, and procrastination.

Achievement and success are the same thing.. Right?

Nope!

They are very different things.. Intertwined, yes, but separate.

Achievement is the accomplishment of distinct things. Success is the fulfillment that comes from moving towards your Quest.

It is amazing how much of a difference a bit of semantics can make.

When we frame something as we "Have to do it", it is a chore. It is a downer. We don’t want to do it.

However, when we frame it as we "Get to do it", it is fun. It is something to look forward to.

It makes all the difference.

Today I want to share with you my business why, Why I do what I do when I'm not at work? I have a day job that I really love. And I'm working for a very large company making a difference. I enjoy it. But I also have my business, my Third Power Performance.

People will often ask why do you do that? What's your goal? Recently, I have been reading Simon Sinek’s “Start with Why”. it's been my morning study for the last week or so. And it really got me thinking about how to distill down my business; why and what is it?

I talk about all the time, you need to know your purpose, you need to know why you're doing what you're doing on the quest. Right. And I had always had kind of a generic idea. I mean, you can hear it in the podcast intro, helping successful professionals live, work and play to the third power. But I needed more. So I spent some time today working on my business why, and I wanted to share it with you.

We have this delusion that spiritual growth, happiness, success, etc. is this beautiful and joyful path full of flowers and rainbows... And the truth is far less pleasant.

We have to dive into the depths of our souls and confront our own personal demons. Something most of us would rather not do..

so we go looking for the easy "tips and tricks" to try to get around it..

that does not work..

As unsavory as the process can be, it is absolutely essential, and absolutely worth it…

thepath #realsuccess #spiritualgrowth #fulfillment #growth #poetry

The Path

I am wandering in the desert…

I am searching for myself

Am I searching, or really only wandering?

Mirages come and go

Tempting me with easy answers

The quick and painless ways..

But always your cup fills only with sand…

The wind is blowing at my back

And there is a path now before me

Leading to a distant mountain pass

The journey from here to there is rough

Thru the valley I must go

Where men have rarely trodden

But desperately need to go

Thru the deep river at its base

Deep and dark its waters flow

With eddies and currents no man knows

To immerge from the other side

Shall be a test of will

But from it you shall immerge to climb the mountain heights

So hold on tightly to your soul

Say a prayer to the wind

And on your solitary journey

From here, you must begin…

Having a very clear vision of the grand scheme of things is important, but can be overwhelming.

We need to be clear what our huge goal is, but focused on just the next thing we need to do to achieve it.

If we focus too much on the larger picture, we get overwhelmed and paralyzed.. Procrastination then sets in.

Those that look at people who have succeeded, and go, "Why them and not me?"

And then the other kind of person looks at them and goes, "if they can do it, I can do it"

And it really comes down to the infinite game versus the finite game.

I love to garden. It is therapeutic for me, and feeds my family.

Today I share some life lessons from the Garden.

1 - You reap what you sow, but not everything grows the same, so keep sowing:   Some plans go well, some do not. Keep trying, keep planting.

2 - Pull your weeds when they are small:   The longer you let problems or habits go on, the harder it is to fix them.

3 - Check and Water it every day: Check in every day to see what is important. Where does your focus need to be TODAY.

Do these three things and you will have a garden, and life, that lives to the Third Power!

What are they doing to me?

What have they got me reading?

What have they got me saying?

Where do they have me going?

What do they have me thinking?

And most important, what do they have me becoming?

I wanted to share how I do a gratitude session in the hopes you will find it useful.

The gratitude spiral based on the Life Balance Triad.

Life Balance Triad:

Self-Mastery

- Spiritual

- Mental

- Physical

Interpersonal

- Family

- Friends

- Others

Material Propserity

- Finances (Financial Education)

- Income

- Expenses (Stuff)

Remember what you are thankful for for each of these areas, and then you begin to have a Life to the Third Power.

What do you do when things don’t go according to plan?

It's been my experience that as soon as you start out on a new venture, the universe wants to test and make sure we are committed. In this episode, we talk about the importance of restarts.

Transcript

===================================

Hello, and welcome back to Third Power Life podcast, and coming in with you a little bit later in the evening than I normally do. And I want to talk to you about what do you do when things don't go according to plan?

Well, welcome to my journey of self discovery, life balance, career success and business creation. This podcast works to answer the question of how successful professionals like us stop drifting, and get focused on keeping our careers and businesses growing rapidly, while having a full balanced and vibrant light that we absolutely love, what we call the Third Power Life. And this is the Third Power Life podcast.

You know, it's been my experience that as soon as you start out on a new venture a new, you know, focus, you know, start, you know, doing a restart, when I always talk about, you know, it's the importance of restarts, you know, it's not that you have issues or that you, you know, that you fall down or that, you know, you eat that cheesecake, when you're on a diet, whatever, you know, whatever the issue is, the big thing is that you restart immediately. And, you know, we're all going to have those days that are just don't go the way that we planned. Things go wrong. We just it doesn't, it doesn't work out. And, I mean, that happens with diets, it happens with goals that happens with with everything. And what generally happens is, you know, we're, we're on a diet, we're doing good, we're eating well, we're exercising, and then either we miss the gym, or, you know, there were some friends over and there were doughnuts and one thing led to another and there's now a dozen donuts missing somewhere, right? Something happens, and we get off of our track. The key is not to focus on what went wrong. I mean, we need to figure out what was the lesson?

How can I avoid this in the future? But the real key is to not get caught up in the poor me and the, you know, the self pity? And like, Oh, it's just ruined my diet through it. Right? The key is to immediately get back up and say, okay, yes, I messed up. Now it's time to restart again. Because, you know, I've done this so many times myself, where I say, you know, I'm going to do my journal, and I'm going to do this, and I'm going to exercise every day and, and I start in the first three or four days are fine, and then something happens and I miss, and okay, well, I'll try it again sometime soon. And then a month goes by two months go by, and I'm like, you know, I really should start that up again. The key is, don't wait two months. Don't wait two days, don't wait two hours. Now's the time to immediately restart.

Welcome to SEASON 2 of Third Power Life Podcast!

I have a confession…

Over the past year, I have been drifting…

Letting life take me wherever it leads.. just trying to keep my head above water…

Well that stops today… No more drifting. No more letting life dictate my feelings..

I pledge to you here that it stops today. From now on, I will keep my duty to you, and to the world.

I am here to make a difference in the world. I am here to make a difference in YOUR world.

So I vow these things to you today.

  • I will send a message out to the world every day
  • I will regain control of my health
  • I will no longer drift.

I am in control of my life  Will you join me?

What are you willing to pledge today?

Is today your day to break free of drifting??

There is a common misconception that Love is a noun. In today's world we need love more than anything. Our children need it, our spouses need it, our world needs it. But love is not a thing! LOVE IS A VERB!

In 1966 Robert Kennedy Said in a speech

There is a Chinese curse which says ‘May he live in interesting times.’ Like it or not we live in interesting times. They are times of danger and uncertainty; but they are also more open to the creative energy of men than any other time in history.

We are certainly living in uncertain times right now! In today's episode, I share my mini-talk about living in Uncertain Times and the three things you can do to make it better.

Do you ever get tired of "adulting"?

In this episode, I share the inspiration that came from me thinking about my upcoming goal setting seminar, and how important it is to dream...

From my journal:

"I am transforming lives, creating lasting change for people. and for myself. We must lift our eyes up from the rut of survival to see what is possible. Give life to our dreams. Remember what it is like to dream. to hope. to be inspired. That is what I am offering. yes it is a goal setting seminar, but it is more than that. The chance to awaken the dreaming child within each of us. to lift our heads out from the day to day and for a few hours live with our heads in the clouds. not for just a flight of fancy, but to gain the perspective that comes from flight."

After a talk at karate about the reason for joining karate got me thinking about why we started our businesses or our jobs.

Why did you sign up for karate?  Was it just to achieve to goal of the black belt? Or was it for fun and exercise?

And in your business.   Why did you start? What was the passion that started you?  Have you lost the real reason you started?

So, the big question is this; how are successful professionals like us going to keep increasing our business success and yet still have a full, balanced, and vibrant life that we absolutely love? That is the question and this podcast will give you the answers. I'm Dan Gentry and welcome to Third Power Life Podcast.

I was thinking about habits. And I know I talk a lot about habits and systematization and all that. But one of the things that really occurred to me was the fact that our habits are not limited to just us. There are generational effects...

I was listening to a presentation by Garrett White, Wake Up Warrior, you may have heard of him. But he was talking about how, you know, if you're like intensely overweight, which I was, I was like at 36% body fat, it was pretty terrible. And he was saying how there's so many of us that our habits are affecting our children. And we can literally have gun to the head of our child. If it was a physical gun, they'd throw us in jail, but instead, you're driving through McDonald's, right? It kinda clarified something for me that I thought about many times is that the habits that we have don't end with us, right? They go on beyond us, our children and people who look to us as role models. Our habits effect us. My son, my boys are both at home and I see the thing, these habits and these little quirks of character that I have and I see it reflected in them. And it's both gratifying and scary, being completely honest. 'Cause there are some things that I do that are fantastic and there are other things that are not. I would love to say that my life is perfect and you just need to be like dad, right? It's just not the case. I was looking at myself at the end of last year, specifically with my health and weight. I'd gone to my doctor's appointment, to my physical. It was the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, actually, and I was over 290, right. Now, I'm pretty tall, but I'm not that tall. And I realized that this has got to change and I was asking my doctor, you know, what diet I should do. We kinda agreed, he said that the keto diet is the way to go, so I started that Tuesday, Tuesday after Thanksgiving. I've been absolutely solid on it since then. As of yesterday, I'm down 40 pounds, I feel so much better. I'm looking and my son, basically that little mini-me. I saw that he's definitely not fat, but we've gotta grow into that, the weight there. But I realized that it was my habits, my same eating habit, my same habits, that were forming him and were having an effect on his life. When Garrett White said that, it really hit me that my choices, the choices that I'm making right now, have an effect and it's beyond me. So when I'm trying to find the desire and the will power and the motivation to really make change in my life, and I tell this to everybody that I work with for goal setting, is you need to have here's why I want the goal, but also, here's what I don't want. So loosing weight, it's not just about that I wanna be skinnier, better looking and all of that. It's that I'm setting a precedent. I'm setting a standard for everybody that I interact with and it's going to go beyond me. It's not just about how do I feel and how is it affecting me. It's what's the generational impact of that. And I look at even my upbringing with my parents. What are my thoughts on money? What are my thoughts on success? What are my thoughts on work ethic? All of these different things that flavor all of my interactions. They flavor my business, they flavor my parenting style, all of these things that I learned from watching and you know full well, if you have children, that they do what you do, not what you say.
