Coach Buffy and Coach Whit discuss the reason behind CrossFit standards and why they are so important. Standard is defines as something set up and established by authority as a rule for the measure of quantity, weight, extent, value, or quality. If you’ve been around CrossFit, then you are probably aware that there are a specific set of standards for each movement.
During a CrossFit class, the coach will go over the standards for the movements in the workout along with a warmup. This ensures the athletes know what’s expected of them. However, some members will choose to ignore the standards so they can get through the movements as quickly as possible. However, there are several different reasons why standards are important as discussed in this podcast.

Including health and fitness into our day can be a struggle for many of us. Coach Whit and Nutrition Coach Buffy offer some simple ways to ensure health and fitness remains a daily priority.
f a little exercise is good for you, more must be better, right? Yes, but only up to a point. Overtraining occurs when an athlete performs more training than his or her body can recover from, to the point where performance declines.

Scaling allows any athlete to complete the same workout, regardless of ability, simply by altering the weights and movements in order to produce the same level of intensity. Every beginner in CrossFit hears the word scale. Scaling basically means that you change the intensity of the workout to your fitness level.
We talk a lot about scaling and modifying the workouts to meet your individual needs and abilities, but what does that actually look like?!
We discuss who should do it, why you should do it and how to go about it.

Coach Whit and Coach Buffy discuss why having the goal of being "shredded" isn't a good goal at all.
Most people can get cut without too much of problem. But not everyone can get shredded. Even just trying to stay ripped all the time is not a realistic goal for most people, most of the time.
We talk about how to set better, healthier goals and discuss some of the pitfalls of comparison to others on social media.
This episode is all about our experiences in quarantine. We discuss some tips to getting back on track once we get back to real life.
Anytime you feel that you’ve gone off course and want to make small steps to get back on track, use these steps and to gradually ease back in. These are steps that you can layer in one at a time. You can do it a day at a time, a week at a time, or even a month at a time. It doesn’t matter as long as you’re doing it and making new habits and holding yourself accountable!

On average, it takes more than 2 months before a new behavior becomes automatic — 66 days to be exact. In other words, if you want to set your expectations appropriately, the truth is that it will probably take you two months + to build a new behavior into your life.
Embracing longer timelines can help us realize that habits are a process and not an event. All of the 14 day detoxes or 7 minute abs hype can make it really easy to think, “Oh, I'll just do this and it'll be done.” But habits never work that way. You have to embrace the process. You have to commit to the system.
Understanding this from the beginning makes it easier to manage your expectations and commit to making more sustainable approaches to your fitness goals — rather than pressuring yourself into thinking that you have to do it all at once.

The start of the year is the perfect time to turn a new page, which is probably why so many people create New Year's Resolutions. A new year often feels like a fresh start, a great opportunity to eliminate bad habits and establish new routines that will help you grow psychologically, emotionally, socially, physically, or intellectually. Of course, resolutions are much easier to make than to keep and by the middle of the year many of us have abandoned our resolve and settled back into our old patterns.
We share some tips and secrets to help you achieve those goals!
During the hot, hazy days of summer, it can be challenging to stay motivated. Longer days and warmer weather are prime for a motivation slump, but while you’d rather be spending your days poolside, your body can’t afford a 3 month vacation.
No matter your excuse to not work out, we’ll show you how to stay motivated and engaged in the summer.
We offer a variety of programs to keep both you and the kids moving!

We break it down to show you the importance of sleep and recovery for your body and training.
Coach Whit and Nutrition Coach Buffy sit down with Dr. Brian Strump. They discuss how Live Active Charlotte started, some of his background, and his plans for the future.
"It was almost 10 years ago that the first ideas to combine a chiropractic and rehab office with a CrossFit gym began. After months of research, Premier Health and Rehab Solutions and CrossFit Steele Creek opened for business in May 2010. While many questioned my ideas at the time, I thought that having two businesses under one roof to serve the community in search of answers to their health and wellness would work. It has, and grown into something well beyond what I would ever imagined."
