Can't believe we are already here. It was a crazy rollercoaster season yet again with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. BUT we wouldn't change it for anything. We grew so close to this team and love every one of them to the moon and back. Now we deal with the Portal. So let's recap the year. Let's talk about our fave moments AND let's digest and deal with the crazy portal news that's been happening the last 2 weeks. It's been a ride. We want to thank EVERYONE who has supported us over the last 5 seasons of doing this.
We don't get paid. We still have full & 2 part-time jobs each that we have to contend with during the season. We don't have unlimited funds to travel and buy tickets to every sport nor are we retired with nothing to do but attend games. WE ARE TIRED by the end of the season. We support every sport and team. We COVER the men's basketball team. That is all we have time for. That is all we have room for in our schedules.
But we do this out of love for basketball & the coaches but especially the players. We do this because we want to and we can't wait for next season already!
We will have a few more episodes during the off-season as per usual and one about March Madness as a whole. But until then...

For the last time (for a while at least) we travel to Huntsville aka Prisonville for the 2nd to last regular season showdown with our conference rivals, the Bearkats. For this special edition of PMA, we are excited to chat with Head Baseball Coach at SFA, Johnny Cardenas!!! Johnny has been the skipper at SFA for 14 years but has been with the program since 2005. We chatted about all things SFA Baseball, from where he got his nickname (Big Queso) to Hunter Dozier and the COVID year to what the definition of SOMOS is. Coach Cardenas is dedicated to the development of his team on and off the field, really stressing the importance of recruiting solid men FIRST and talent second. Enjoy!

The final home game in the Sawmill saw the Wildcats of ACU try to snap out 7 game winning streak. The thrilling win game was capped off by a final send-off to our Seniors (some of the 2nd time) and the message that WE ARE NOT DONE YET.
Today we are joined by a special guest, Antonio Bostic, the current Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at ACU. At SFA, he played under former head coach Danny Kaspar and current ACU Head Coach, Brette Tanner, who was an assistant coach at SFA. During his three seasons as a Lumberjack, Bostic earned first-team all-Southland Conference honors as a junior in 2011-12 and second-team all-conference honors as a senior in 2012-13.
He averaged 9.6 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game for a Lumberjack team that was 65-28 in his three seasons. As a senior, he led SFA to a 27-5 record, regular-season league title, and a spot in the NIT. He finished his career with 64 consecutive starts and ranked eighth in program history in steals (184).

We had an amazing weekend in Lawrence, Kansas!!! Never thought we would say those words, but it's true! Even with the loss, the game was great, the experience of Allen Fieldhouse aka the Phog was outstanding, and enjoying the town of Lawrence with all our Basketball friends was memorable as hell. God, there is nothing in this world we love more other than going into Huntsville and beating Sam Houston on their own court! It is EVEN SWEETER to win following a hard L vs ACU on Wednesday. IT was the perfect way to end a wild season even though there is no post-season action for us, we are so proud of how this team came together as a family and finished it the way it should be finished= as one and with a W vs our bitter rival.

WELL...THAT STUNK. The Lumberjacks fell on the road to the bottom of the barrel Cardinals in DOUBLE OT and it was the absolute worst. Multiple chances to win the game and just could not get anything to fall into the hoop at the end of the day. We had a nice road trip otherwise, eating some yummy food, hanging with some friends, and watching the Ladyjacks dominate yet another team by 30+ pts.
The Jacks are on the road AGAIN on Monday, March 1st in UCA (make up a postponed game from Snowmageddon) and then back home for the final game in the Sawmill in the SLC AND possibly the final home game for a lot of our seniors. Let's give them all the support and BEAT ACU this time... it's a do-or-die matchup. #AxeEm

What a wild game this one was! While Winter Storm Uri was barreling down on us, the jacks traveled to UNO to take on the Privateers, a game that was already rescheduled due to Covid issues. Technical fouls were flying left and right, players on both sides dropping dimes like hot potatoes, and a video feed that made us feel like we were smack dab in the middle of Christmas shopping season at Walmart because it was so chaotic. Tune in as we talk about it ALL.
We've had games canceled and postponed since then due to Winter Storm Uri, that JERK, so now we have only ONE home game left vs ACU in March, and the rest are away games. Winning this game was vital to staying in the top 4 in the conference standing & to potentially set it up for another Regular Season Conference Championship battle depending on how the rest of the season pans out. We still need to travel down to WRJ south (Huntsville) and beat them on their own court.
The next game is on Wednesday @ Texas A&M Corpus Christi and they are just coming out of COVID protocols. They always play us hard no matter what so we need to keep this juice flowing into that matchup. #AxeEm

DOUBLE-HEADER DESTRUCTION.
Both the LadyJacks and the Lumberjacks got the W vs Lamar! Our Lumberjacks took control early and held it pretty much the entire game and started to put distance between us the Cardinals in the second half and Big Red had no chance to catch up. We really played to our full potential in this game and that gives us hope in the next two games vs the hardest matchups of the season with ACU and SHSU. #AxeEm

In the second to last conference matchup between us and Northwestern, Chief Caddo - Hardwood Edition, the Demons tried to keep up (and did for a while in the first half) and make it a game but in the end, they just couldn't. Our Jacks were too much for them in the end and traveled back across the border to our sister city, Natchitoches, Lousiana, with an L. We will meet up one last time before our move to the WAC in February in Demon territory for what is to be sure a bitter-sweet game. #AxeEm

The Jacks traveled to San Antonio this weekend for an SLC matchup in which we came away with an 18 pt victory at the end! Calvin, Charlie, David, Cam, Roti, and Nigel ALL had good games and we really spread the scoring out among the boys.

UCA came to town on a Wednesday night hoping to leave with a W but instead got gifted a big FAT L courtesy of Gavin's double-double, Cam's 21 pts, and Nana/ Nigel having the best night of their SFA career so far. The Lumberjacks hosted a last-minute announced game vs Midwestern State University, a D2 school out of Wichita Falls, Texas on Friday, January 8th. Jaclyn and I both couldn't make it because we decided to self-quarantine just in case and it turned out to be a good idea (you'll need to listen to hear why) but we watched on ESPN+ in the comfort of our homes listening to the Golden Voice of the Jacks--Rob Myers. It was an inconsistent game but we have seen some improvement in areas and yet not so much in others. Listen as we go over the good and bad, along with stats, & more.

The Jacks traveled to Monroe, Lousiana for a rematch vs the Warhawks to try to flip the script from our last trip to ULM BUT it didn't work out in our favor, unfortunately. We are currently struggling offensively but trying to push through into the holiday break and end the year on a positive note. SO READY FOR 2021 and conference play!!!!

The Jacks took a last-minute non-conference game in Waco to challenge themselves....and well... let's just say it was definitely a learning experience.
This #2 Baylor team is LIGHTYEARS better than the #1 Duke squad we played last year and their defense KNEW EXACTLY what they needed to do to suffocate our offense. Join Alex and Jacks as they go over the entire game and dive into both the good, bad, and the ugly on both the offense and defense sides of our struggling Lumberjack team.

Game recap from Sunday afternoon in the Sawmill----brutal first half and finally clicking a little better in the second half to get the W vs a really good NAIA team. Yes, we should have won that by 50, but we will chalk it up to fatigue, finals, and freaking 2020. We also talk a little about all the WAC rumors and what a potential move to join that conference would mean. Good fit? Lateral move? Financially viable? Nothing is official yet but it is on the table and only time will tell.

"Lose a game, gain a game" is probably going to be the slogan for the season. It has been thus far. The Jacks last-minute scheduled a "non"-conference game with McNeese (yes, we know they are in our conference but we weren't originally scheduled to play vs them during conference play so it's technically a non-con) on Friday night. They are coming off an absolute wild off-season filled with hurricane after hurricane pounding down on Lake Charles and they were FIRED UP. Thankfully that fire was tamed during the second half of the game and our Jacks came away with the DUB. Lots of work to do and more to learn but we think this team can absolutely go far into March. This game was an uphill battle until the bitter end but what else is new for 2020. KNOCK IT OFF, WILL YOU?

Carole Baskins 100% killed her husband & Joe Exotic is an absolute content gold mine. People bought and hoarded WAYYY to much flour, sanitizer, and toilet paper. Thanks, ya jerks. Sports are way more important and central to our lives than some people probably thought. You will never take for granted the time spent you can spend outside and with your family & friends, you love ever again. Too many people don't practice good hygiene habits. The coronavirus literally ruined our entire March and quite frankly our entire Spring as of now.
