When in Romans: “Unashamed”

The Gospel sets us free to live an unashamed life. [Romans 1:16; Hebrews 12:1-2; Romans 8:1]
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel”
“for it is the power of God for salvation”
“to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek”
An unashamed life is a life lived by faith in Jesus. [Romans 1:17; Romans 5:8; Isaiah 53:5, Habakkuk 2:4]
“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed”
“from faith for faith, as it is written, ‘The righteous shall live by faith.’”

For Freedom: “Let us do good”

When we live in step with the Spirit, everyone wins. [Galatians 5:25-26; Mark 4:1-9]

The weeds of life try to choke out the life of God.
If everything is about “me”, then “we” lose.

We each have a vital role to play for the Church to be healthy. [Galatians 6:1-5; Matthew 18:15-20; Matthew 5:23-24]

God will always do His part; will we do our part?

Let us do good to everyone not to “be good”, but because He is good [Galatians 6:6-10]

“The laws of the harvest” by Charles Swindoll:

We sow and reap in like kind.
We reap in a different season than the one we sow in.
We reap more than we sow.
We must let go of past harvests and focus on sowing for the future today.

Staying in step with the Spirit guarantees our freedom. [Galatians 5:13-18]
Christians stay in step with the Spirit and walk through the “war”.
We are not free to sin; we are freed from sin. [Galatians 5:19-21; 1 John 1:9]
What you choose to feed or starve will win.
Bringing our junk into the light leads to God making it right.
Staying in step with the Spirit leads to bearing fruit naturally. [Galatians 5:22-26; John 15:5]
Belonging and abiding keep us in step with the Spirit.

For Freedom: “Mother's Day”

Stand Firm in Freedom (Galatians 5:1)

• Moms (and all of us) need to hear this: you are not loved because of your performance. You’re loved because Christ has already secured your worth.

Love Over Law (Galatians 5:2–6)

• Encourage moms today: Your quiet acts of service are seen by God.

Beware of the Leaven (Galatians 5:7–9)

• Paul says: Don’t let that stuff grow. It spoils freedom.

Serve One Another in Love (Galatians 5:13–14)

• This is Jesus-shaped love—the love that lays down its rights for the good of others.

Avoiding the Bite (Galatians 5:15)

"But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another." (Galatians 5:15)

• Love guards the mouth. Selfishness weaponizes it.

• You can’t avoid the bite by trying harder-you must walk by the Spirit.

Identity clarity comes with being born again. [Galatians 3:25-29; John 3:1-6]

Our born identity is the redeemed and freed who live as sons and heirs. [Galatians 4:1-7]

We grow in intimacy with the Father over time by spending intentional time.

Our born identity is shaped by knowing God and being known by God. [Galatians 4:8-11; 1 John 2:16; Colossians 2:16-17]

We tend to turn back to lesser “gods”:

Desires of the flesh.
Desires of the eyes.
Pride of life.

We need to regularly turn back to God and our born identity.

Easter 2025: “It is Finished”

The cross and empty tomb are Jesus’ “finished” work and the centerpieces of Christianity. [John 20:1-8]
We often choose the robber instead of the grave robber. [John 18:40; John 10:7-10]
We will always be “thirsty” apart from Jesus’ living water. [John 19:28-29; Psalm 22:15-16]
“It is finished” means we live not to do, but because it is done.[John 19:30; Colossians 2:12-15]
What work did Jesus finish and fulfill?
Jesus fulfilled the law, the prophets, and His mission.
“Tetelestai” (“it is finished) is defined as: to bring to an end, to complete, to accomplish. Note: The Greek perfect tense means it is complete in the past, but its results continue in the present.

Faith overcomes fear.
God provides for His promises.

The law is meant to:

Create order out of chaos.
Expose our sin.
Reveal our need for Christ.
Christ is the conductor of the “grace train” and says, “All aboard”
God promised identity, belonging, and inheritance. [Galatians 3:25-29]
Faith in Christ sets us free to experience God’s promises.
A fresh vision of Christ’s work changes lives and churches.

For Freedom: “In Christ Alone”

15 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; 16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. 17 But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor. 19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.

For Freedom: “A level Playing Field”

The Gospel is grace in action and invites all people to participate. [Galatians 2:1-10; Acts 11:29-30; Acts 15:1-2]
When we lose sight of the main thing, we lose much more than perspective.
Love levels the playing field to make sure everyone experiences the freedom Jesus offers. [Galatians 2:11-14; Matthew 7:1-6; Mark 2:1-11]
Judgmental attitudes tear down people and build walls that protect religion but prevent relationships with Jesus.
We are to address hypocrisy not to tear down the person but to remove the barriers to Jesus.

Christmas Stories: “Life-giving”

Key Points from the Sermon:

When we come out of hiding, we find the life-giver. [Luke 1:39-41; Psalm 139:11-16; John 11:25-26]
We are created to be in life-giving community.
We are given physical life in the womb and find spiritual life through Jesus’ empty tomb.
When we are found by the life-giver, we become life-giving. [Luke 1:41-56; 1 Samuel 10:20-22]
God has given you spiritual gifts to be life-giving.
Worship is “looking up” in God’s presence, which changes the present.
Mary’s worship “play list” included these attributes of God:
God is Lord.
God is my Savior.
God sees me.
God redeems me.
God is mighty and Holy.
God is merciful to those who fear Him.
God is powerful and just.
God is generous.
God is a helper.
God is historically faithful.

Defining Moments: “The Perfect Ending”

In a society that often pressures us to conform, standing for God may seem strange. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the golden statue, showing that living by a different standard requires His power.

Stand and Be Committed

When Nebuchadnezzar challenged their commitment, these men didn’t look for loopholes; they made up their minds beforehand to stand for God, trusting in His ability to deliver them, even if it meant facing death.

Stand on Your Faith

When their faith was tested in the fiery furnace, they were not alone. God walked with them through the fire, demonstrating that He may not keep us out of trials but is always with us in them.

Stand, To God Be the Glory

After witnessing their faith, Nebuchadnezzar proclaimed that there is no other God who can rescue in this way. Their stand brought glory to God, showing that our lives should point others to Him.

As the body of Christ, we are called to stir each other up to live faithfully for King Jesus. Gathering as a church strengthens us, encouraging us to keep our focus on God’s Kingdom. (Hebrews 10:19-25)

More about Movement International

The Movement International was founded in 2013 with the dream to create a way to make sure every person could have access to the Gospel by planting a church in every unreached village in this generation. They are now a multi-national church planting movement targeting the most unreached areas of the world.

The founders analyzed current strategies and ran through countless simulations. What was formed is now being used to plant churches across entire nations at a fraction of the cost of similarly sized denominations and movements. The organization is strategic, streamlined, and reproducible where planted churches are starting to plant churches themselves. The Movement International only targets villages and communities that have no current access to the Gospel and is 99% made up of bi-vocational church planters who are reaching their own areas. Bitterness and disappointment can move us down into the winepress of isolation and discouragement, and once you’re down there it can be really hard to climb out.

“I will be with you. And you will destroy the Midianites as if you were fighting against one man” (vs. 16 NLT).

Realizing God’s presence in our life is the only thing that can transform you from being afraid to having courage. When Gideon realized that God was indeed with him, Gideon became a Game Changer for change.

GIDEON WAS A GAME CHANGER

Gideon’s decision to climb out of that winepress and follow God’s call sparked renewal and revival in his little tribe. His first mission from God was to destroy his father’s altar to Baal. The Bible says,

One man changes the hearts of thousands of people.

One of the most amazing things about genuine faith is how it inspires other people to step out in faith.

That’s what modern-day Gideons do. They stand up and step out on faith, they accomplish what everyone else says is impossible, and they inspire and challenge others to do the same.
