In this episode, I speak with Rick. He asked me not to reveal his last name because some of the content is sensitive, including childhood trauma. If this is uncomfortable for you, you may not want to listen to this episode.

Rick's story is about a quest for peace, which was taken from him when he was just 7 years old. It wasn't until he was 60 and encountered a health crisis that he started linking his health, thought patterns, and behaviors back to a violent event from decades ago when he genuinely believed he was going to die.

This event led to the creation of the smoother, an identity that seemingly aided his success in life, but was internally crushing him.

As Rick embarked on his journey of self-discovery, he began posing significant questions to himself: What leads you to believe you don't deserve good health? Why are peace and silence something to be feared? Why do you feel the need to constantly perform and validate your worth to others?

Now, Rick no longer fears silence. He views peace as a form of power and recognizes his own intrinsic worth, knowing he is sufficient. He has chosen not to be devoured by life's difficulties and challenges.

This interview is probably one of the most profound and personal to me. I dedicate it to my brother Mike, who took his own life in 2020. He was never able to find peace in the silent spaces.

This story is for everyone who is on a path to comprehend how our past influences our present, using it as a catalyst to unveil our truest self and live life on our terms.

In this episode I talk with Deanna Hansen, Founder of Block Therapy and Fluid Isometrics. Deanna’s journey toward living life on her terms began over 20 years ago. Although she was an athletic therapist she herself was struggling. Deanna was doing “all the right things” but was 50 pounds overweight, felt like a failure and suffered from anxiety.

She believes it was divine intervention when during a panic attack, where she actually felt like she was going to die, she intuitively dove her hands into her abdomen and connected with pain. She felt a coldness and marbling in her belly that felt like scar tissue. As a body worker she realized this area wasn’t getting proper blood flow. She began to regularly massage this area and quickly the weight began to fall away and the anxiety lifted. This began a journey of self-discovery and beginning to see all of life through the lens of fascia.

Today, Deanna knows her life purpose is helping others on their own healing journey through diaphragmatic breathing and working through the layers of fascia to create space for healing throughout the body. She developed block therapy, which is a version of body work individuals can do for themselves. Deanna has built a successful business with certified block therapists now in multiple countries.

In this interview Deanna talks about letting go of shame and secrets and embracing her own story, values, passions and purpose to get her where she is today. There are many lessons in Deanna’s journey and parallels to the 7L Framework. She is excited about “Leveling-up” and trusts venturing into the unknown of what’s next!

In this episode of Life on Your Terms, I interview the inspiring Sam Conaway. He is President of US Cardiology Sales for Boston Scientific and chairs the company's health equity program.

Sam grew up in a tough neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland. Many of his friends went down a troubled path mired in gangs, drugs and violence. He shared being a high school baseball star is the only thing that kept him safe and "untouchable" in his neighborhood.

However, his dream of going pro was dashed by an injury and Sam ended up working in a hospital laundry room. He could have become bitter and given up. Instead he worked harder and drew inspiration from his uncle who "made it out". He found his true purpose and never looked back!

Sam went from folding laundry to assisting with cardiac procedures by 19 years old. The experience fulfilled him in ways he couldn't imagine. He is now focused on leading and inspiring others that they can achieve anything with a positive mindset, strong work ethic, being honest with yourself and allowing yourself to dream big!
