Over the past 18 months I've reevaluated virtually every aspect of my life. From my friendships and relationships, to who I learn from and listen to, to where I spend my time and energy and money, to what I want to be when I grow up (I still haven't decided...).
And during this period I've been left with more questions than answers. My therapist is helping me be okay with not knowing what's next. Instead of trying to rush to problem-solving and solution-finding, I'm working on being present with the questions and confusion. For a high-achieving, know it all, Enneagram Type 3 like myself...it ain't easy!
On today's episode of The Online Business Show, I'm sharing more about this process in the finale for season one of the podcast. Yep - that's right! The Online Business Show is going to have seasons, y'all! Why? Well...because I want to. The constant content creation has been wearing on me and if Stranger Things can take over a year to come out with their next season I can take a few months off, damnit!
During this episode I'm sharing more about WHY I'm transitioning the podcast to a season format, how my summer social media sabbatical is going so far (spoiler alert: it's going a little too good...), and where I'm at right now in my life and business (another spoiler alert: it's not very coherent and super vulnerable and I'm just going to stop writing this so you can go listen to the episode now). Enjoy and I'll see ya on the other side of this break from the pod!

I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for the people in my life. It's true! And I bet the same is true for you. Relationships with friends, mentors, biz besties, coaches, colleagues, and more help us get to where we want to go.
When Shelly Bell looked back at the most transformative moments of her career to-date, she noticed a core theme: extraordinary and diversified social capital. Whether she was befriending billionaires at galas, or fostering connections with local governments, she's learned that the to go from a big vision to a big success requires trusted relationships across sectors, race, class, and gender. On today’s episode of The Online Business Show, we talk about resisting average relationships and the importance of building a strong network as you start and grow your online business.

If you're anything like me, you've had moments or seasons in your life where it feels impossible to get a full grasp on your time, to-do list, and taking care of yourself. Between work, business, life, personal goals, family, friends, self-care, your health...it seems like there's never enough TIME 🕰️ to do all the things you want to do. So you pile on the shame and guilt and try (and fail) to do it all again.
Today, on the Online Business Show, my friend @sarajanecase (Sarajane Case) is joining me as we talk about taking back your time in life and business. An expert on all things self-care, productivity, and the Enneagram, Sarajane is breaking down how to adopt a new mindset around your time, how to craft a vision for your life that is more holistic, how to accept and work with your circumstances, how to better manage tasks so your to-do list has an end (once and for all), and how to do this all consistently (with lots of grace and acceptance for when you get it wrong).
In full transparency, this is one of the most helpful and insightful podcast interviews I've ever recorded. Sarajane has a way of speaking directly to my soul and I'm sure what she shares is going to resonate with you as well.
It's time to get rid of the guilt and shame we all feel about not doing hashtag ALL THE THINGS and to find a new way to take control of our time in our life and our work.

I. Love. Masterclasses. (say that in your head in your best "I love bread!" Oprah voice). No, for real, I really do. I love attending masterclass webinars. I love creating them. I love teaching them. I'm a huge fan of utilizing masterclass webinars to sell my stuff and have been since the early days of my business. So, on today's episode of The Online Business Show, we're talking about 'em!
Whether you're selling a digital product, launching a course, promoting a paid event, or debuting a new service -- hosting a free masterclass is a great (and profitable!) way to sell your stuff in your online biz. BUT, there is a method to the madness! There is a system that makes them work even BETTER. And on today's episode of the podcast, I'm joined by friend of the pod @simone.mcnish as we discuss how to create and execute a profitable free masterclass!
Simone is breaking down what goes into planning, creating, and delivering a profitable free masterclass as we chat about WHY we love masterclass webinars and how we use them in our businesses. If you haven't met Simone McNish yet, you should! She is a business coach and DEI strategist who helps women of color and moms authentically market their businesses. She also supports small organizations and entrepreneurs in their DEI efforts. AND you can listen to her on an earlier episode of The Online Business Show - episode 8 - as we discuss diversity, inclusion, and privilege.

For years people have asked me HOW to grow their following on Instagram®. And, for years, I've told them not to worry about it. Why? Because I truly believe that MORE followers does NOT always lead to MORE sales (that, and, most business owners need to worry more about getting the followers they already have to buy their stuff than trying to get random new strangers on the Internet to follow them).
But today, I'm finally answering the elusive question of HOW to get more followers. And, because y'all know transparency is key around here, I'm sharing the growth secrets that no one tells you (these are all the things your favorite IG marketers and pros know that they don't want to share).
During this episode of The Online Business Show, I'm breaking down 5+ follower growth secrets from the actual trade-offs required to grow your following (including HOW much content is really required for follower growth) to the real-life case studies of how massive followings have NOT lead to massive sales (like how a certain influencer with 2+ million followers couldn't manage to sell 36 t-shirts).
Then, after we get all of the Internet's dirty follower growth secrets out of the way, I'm walking you through the 7 steps required for follower growth in 2021. I'll share what's working NOW on Instagram for growing your following, how often you ACTUALLY need to post, what types of content get the most results, what stats and metrics to track and pay attention to, and my number one tip for growing your following no matter how many followers you have to do or how fast you want to grow!

Here's the 411 on my IG Sales Strategy 101 -- it has 3 core parts (I go into more details during today's episode of The Online Business Show...but I wanted you to have a little teaser).
1. Your Audience -- I need you to get crystal clear on WHO you help. BUT, I want you to skip the generic demographic stuff everyone teaches. I don't care as much about your ideal client named Samantha who is 36, drives a Honda Pilot, is a mom of 2, and drinks a grande skinny white mocha from Starbucks every morning. What I DO dare about is WHY she gets that drink every morning (Is it because she's a creature of habit? Is it because she sees it as a treat for herself? Because she likes the consistency of Starbucks? Is that drink her moment of reprieve from her crazy life?). I care about WHY she is a mom -- what does motherhood mean to her. I care more about her thoughts and beliefs and values than I do about her favorite place to shop and favorite magazine.
2. Your Offer -- You gotta sell one thing...and that's it. I know, you may be cringing right now. But, I promise you, the sooner you streamline your business and focus on ONE program, product, or service, the sooner you'll have more peace of mind in your work. Sure it takes time and trial and error to find the RIGHT one thing...but once you're there, you gotta stick with it and focus. This is the primary way you are creating transformations for your customers and clients.
3. Your Sales Process -- To make sales in your business you MUST, you MUST, you MUST ask people to buy. You don't have to do it all the time and you don't have to act like a used car salesman. You can do it tactfully and thoughtfully and on YOUR terms. But, you'll need to have a real process for getting your followers to move from lurkers and likers to BUYERS. Having a plan for consistently positioning you and your brand then promoting your program, product, or service is key to a profitable IG strategy.
And that's just the tip of the IG Sales Strategy iceberg. I break it all down and go over it step-by-step during today's episode of the podcast -- out now where ever you listen to podcasts! Look for The Online Business Show and tune in to learn more!

I think we can all agree that creating content for the sole purpose of creating content...ain't it! Why waste your time making and posting on Instagram if it's not leading to conversions in your online business? I don't want you to be productive for the sake of being productive -- I want you to be PROFITABLE with your Instagram account!
That's why, on today's episode of The Online Business Show, we are talking about how to create content that converts! Content that gets your followers to have a conversation with you, that moves them to take action, that engages them with your community, and that gets them to BUY. YOUR. STUFF.
The key to creating great content that converts is my 4-part content planning and creation process. I'm breaking it down on today's episode as we continue my Marketing Success Series. During this episode, you'll learn the importance of themes for your content, how to create content based on stories and shared experiences, and we'll dive deep into the importance of shareable content and discuss how to create it to help you expand your reach on IG.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- the best way to simplify your online business is by focusing on serving ONE audience with ONE offer. That's it!
Want less stress? Sell one type of program, product, or service.
Want better messaging? Serve a specific type of person.
Want to work less? Offer less in your business.
Want to be known for something? Focus on serving people in one particular way.
On today's episode of the Online Business Show - part two of my Marketing Success Series - I'm discussing the importance of niching in your online business. BUT this isn't the typical niche conversation...instead, I'm introducing you to the concept of the OFFER niche (in addition to the AUDIENCE niche) and breaking down how to focus and simplify your business and marketing.
It's time for you to STOP pretending you're Amazon and selling 350+ MILLION things to anyone and everyone. Let's set you up for SUCCESS by getting crystal clear on exactly WHO you help and HOW you help them with one core program, product, or service. Listen to the latest episode of The Online Business Show for all of the details.

If you've ever wondered how to market your business with confidence online, this quote from Queen Oprah should help -- "I learned the greatest lesson of any competitor, or anybody who's in business, and passed that on to the rest of my staff: you can only run your own race."
I'm talking about that and more in today's episode of The Online Business Show -- it's all about the keys to marketing confidently online.
In particular, during this episode, I'm chatting about how putting your blinders on makes it easier to create and market, how messing up is key to success in business, AND the importance of having a hype squad to cheer you on and give you a kick in the butt when you need it.
With so much noise and competition online these days, getting caught up in the comparison game and distracted by shiny objects is EASY. Believe me -- my inner dialogue is going at 150 MPH most days as I'm scrolling Instagram and wondering if I really have what it takes to keep showing up day-in and day-out. It seems like everywhere you turn there's the opportunity to invest in your business. Whether it's buying a course, joining a program, hiring a contract, being part of a peer-led mastermind, learning a new skill, or downloading the latest freebie.
But, do you have a clear understanding of WHY you should be investing in your business? Are you clear on when, where, and how to invest to get the results you want? I know I went through my business for the longest time without a filter for my investments and I don't want you to make the same mistake!
So, on this episode of The Online Business Show, I'm breaking down when, where, and how to invest in your business and sharing a simple framework you can use to make investment decisions. We're talking about how investing in your biz is about MORE than money (you invest time and resources, as well) and that learning a new skill just because you may use it one day is NOT a good enough reason to buy that course or join that program.
I'm also sharing how you can make sure the investments you are making or the right investment for you and discussing how there is a difference between making an investment that is uncomfortable and making one that is unsafe.
Don't buy a course or hire a contractor again until you listen to this episode!

Feeling nosy? Want a peek inside of my business? You've got it! Today on the Online Business Show, I'm joined by Whitney Newman - Operations Manager for my business - as we discuss the visionary and integrator relationship and how we run our company! This is a conversation I've wanted to share for a long time and something so many of you have asked for. During today's episode, Whitney and I chat about how she started at our company, what a visionary is and what an integrator is, and how we work together.
In particular, we're covering topics like boundaries and balance in our work, how we partner together to get 💩 done on a daily basis, and how to ensure your relationship as a visionary and integrator stays positive and healthy.
We were really inspired to record this episode after listening to OTHER entrepreneurs talk about how they work with their integrator and feeling soooo uncomfortable and super cringy about the lack of boundaries or balance in how they work together. So, we want to give you a different perspective on how to hire, train, and support the Number Two in your business. We don't get it right all the time and we are still learning - every single day - BUT, Whitney and I are proud of what we've built and how to work together to support our team, our community, and reach our goals!

I've always loved speaking in front of a group -- it's something that I'm grateful has always come naturally to me. It's exciting to get up on stage or in front of a room, look people in the eyes, and connect with them through stories or teaching or coaching. I love every minute of it!
Maybe it goes back to my childhood and teenage years of being in musical theater -- I remember how it felt to come out on stage on opening night with the butterflies in my stomach, only to have them subside within minutes as all eyes fell on our production.
Today, as part of my business, I get to speak in front of groups A LOT! From podcasts to summits to live video to presenting at events -- speaking is a huge part of my job. And it's a skill I've been working to hone over the past few months so I can be even better at it!
That's where Heather Sager enters the picture. Last fall, as we prepared for Online Business Con 2020, I KNEW that I needed to work with a speaking coach to perfect my signature talk to open our two-day virtual conference. And Heather was the first person I called. Over the new few weeks, she helped me wrangle all of my ideas, refine my stories, and bring my talk to life. I told Heather when we started working together that I wanted my "Barack Obama Moment." If you've ever heard President Obama speak, you know what I'm talking about. That moment when time slips away and you're focused on every thoughtfully picked word leaving his lips. That's what I was after! And while I have a long way to go before I reach Obama speaking level, I feel well on my way thanks to Heather and her guidance!
After we finished working together I begged her to be a guest on The Online Business Show and she said YES! So, on today's episode, Heather joins me to share how YOU can position yourself as an authority by speaking on virtual stages. I'm a huge believer in the fact that it's a heck of a lot easier to build your audience by getting in front of someone else's -- and Heather is sharing how you can do just that on today's podcast episode.
As a former executive, Heather has spoken on stages around the world and personally trained hundreds of 6 & 7 figure business owners. Along the way she's learned that success is determined by your ability to articulate your vision and get others on board. I can't wait for you to learn from her on the podcast. Enjoy!

Whenever I talk about being vulnerable I always mention putting my Brené Brown Britches on (in honor of the legendary professor, research, and author made famous by Oprah for her work on vulnerability, leadership, and belonging). Well, today's episode of The Online Business Show required me to put on every pair of Brené Brown Britches that I own...because y'all...shit is getting real!
In my first episode of 2021, I'm breaking down what happened in our business last year, the lessons we learned, and what we're doing differently in 2021. I'm sharing how we LOST money last year, how we stayed agile in the early days of the COVID pandemic, the lessons learned from pivoting our business in a truly unpredictable year, and how we become more grounded in our values through trying times and scary decisions.
And, I'm talking about what I'm looking forward to this year in my business based on everything I learned last year. I'm talking about how we are streamlining our operations in 2021 to help increase our impact, how we are strengthening our team, what we're doing to perfect our customer experience, and some super-secret news that I wasn't supposed to share yet about a brand new program we are launching later this year.
If you've been craving more REAL business talk about the good, bad, and ugly of online entrepreneurship or you're just nosy about what's going on in my company, then you're going to love today's episode!
PS: One time, at an event I was hosting, Amy Porterfield tried to reference Brené Brown Britches after I mentioned them in an earlier talk. Instead, she called them "Brené Brown's Panties." Needless to say, we all had a good laugh and Amy learned that those aren't the same things. Sorry, Amy (and sorry Brené).

It's here! The episode you've been waiting for! Today I'm so excited to share my 2021 Instagram Forecast with you. If you've been wondering where to take your marketing on Instagram in the new year, then this episode is meant for you!
Since 2015, I've worked with thousands of business owners and entrepreneurs, helping them develop their own custom Instagram marketing strategies, and I've learned SO. FREAKING. MUCH. along the way. This past year was no exception.
We all saw how much the world -- including marketing and online business -- changed in 2020. And Instagram went through an evolution of its own over the past 12 months. That means the strategies we always trusted for marketing on my favorite platform are different now -- and that's exactly what today's episode is all about.
During this episode of The Online Business Show (and it's a supersized one, y'all...so buckle up!), I'm sharing all of the changes on Instagram in 2020 -- from new features to user habits. And then, I'm breaking down the 11 (YES - ELEVEN!) Instagram marketing trends for online business in 2021.
We're talking about the demographic changes on Instagram (and how it truly is a millennial's playground), what type of content you must create next year to stay relevant on the platform, how TikTok has changed the game for IG FOREVER, what I predict to happen with Reels and other updates and changes to video on Instagram, the key metrics you need to pay attention to as you plan and create content (and how they're TOTALLY different than before), and how you can continue (or start) using Instagram to generate leads, inquiries, and sales for your online business.
Oh yeah! Almost forgot...I'm also sharing a brand new free resource we just launched called The NEW Instagram Roadmap -- tune in to the episode to learn how to get your copy. After listening, send me a DM on Instagram and let me know what you think. I can't wait to hear from you!

Well lucky for you, on today's episode of The Online Business Show, I'm joined by spiritual guide and Human Design bae, Aycee Brown to give us a crash course into Human Design and to chat about how to use it in YOUR business.
