This week I share my 7-step process for goal setting because I truly want you to be able to address maintaining motivation and focus and I believe this process, which I discovered while serving as a Master Resilience Trainer in the military.

This requires more than the typical SMART goals process that most people talk about.

I also share a few of the changes and new things we’re working on over here.

Finally - we’re taking a couple weeks off and look forward to seeing you again in the new year!

Thank you for all of your support through the past year and I’m excited about what’s to come in the new year for you, for us, and the people we serve together.

Social media is often something we know is important for our business marketing plans, but aren’t quite sure how to approach. It can be challenging to figure out where to start, how to create content, and the best way to be effective in this without burning out.

If you want to improve your social media strategy and better understand how to leverage this to share your message, this episode is for you.

We’re talking with Bryan Switalski, the founder of Leverage Clarity and author of the newly released book, MXltiply.

In this episode, Bryan shares how he went from disliking social media to being convinced of the power of social media for businesses, some of his best social media strategies for multiplying impact (and not effort), and why he’s so passionate about helping business owners share their messages via social media.

We also discuss why you don’t want to post to social media every day, the new opportunities available on most every social media platform right now (thanks to the growth of TikTok), and how to make your content more effective in speaking to your audience.

Please join us for this episode and let’s consider together the ways in which social media can help us share our messages and make a difference in the lives of others.

The connections we build with others are so meaningful and impactful, whether in starting a business, moving forward in your career, increasing your business impact, or being purposeful in personal relationships. It’s also a huge opportunity for us to make a difference in the lives of those around us, as our stories intersect in business or life.

In this episode, we dive into the framework of a book I’m writing on intentionally building relationships with others - Connect, Engage, and Inspire. We discuss each step and the ways we’ve seen these principles applied in our lives and work.

We also talk about my transition from the military into business and what I learned about building relationships from the StoryBrand framework, the lessons Elizabeth learned from running a welcome booth for a year, and how being intentional in showing kindness to others can make a significant difference in their lives.

Please join me for this conversation and let’s consider together the importance of seeking to intentionally connect with, engage, and inspire others!

One of their sons is a saxophonist and the other is a speaker and bestselling author. They also have four grandchildren. Fred gets great joy from cooking, gardening and serving his grandchildren. His favorite quote is “The most expensive thing you will ever pay is attention to the wrong people.”

In this episode, Dr. Jones shares openly from his story about the role kindness has played in his life, how faith has made a difference, and what led him to teach others about writing and publishing. We also discuss the importance of prioritizing relationships, the power of really paying attention to others, and how the thing that makes you angry could be your assignment.

Please join me for this episode and let’s consider together the worth placed in each of us by God and how that makes a difference in our daily lives.

Do you sense there’s more in you – more to give to the world, more to experience, a more adventurous life to be lived – but you’re not sure how to get started? Maybe you’re wrestling with fear about leaving your comfort zone and the life you’ve been living. It feels like a leap, and yet you hope that just maybe there’s more available to you.

This week, we’re revisiting one of our favorite podcast interviews - my conversation with my friend and purpose & life mentor, Mark Delaney.

Mark and his wife Adena have spent their lives in the business of building people. When they became empty-nesters, they decided to go all-in with a mission to help people know their purpose. Mark and Adena designed a coaching program called The Purpose Mastermind. This process allows people to clarify their major life purpose in just one sentence. Mark and Adena will spend the rest of their lives proclaiming a simple message. “Every person has great purpose, they can know it clearly, and be set free to pursue it boldly.”

In this conversation, we discuss Mark’s story of leaving the comfortable to embrace more in his life, why living the life we really want feels like a leap (even though it shouldn’t), and how much you will be changed as a person in the process of living your purpose.

Some additional highlights include:

-Why we look for things to numb or distract us, and the secret to breaking free from this

-How knowing your purpose helps you really evaluate how well you lived today

-Why we struggle with asking for help (and the reason why doing so is key to living the life you want)

Please join me for this conversation with Mark and let’s consider together how knowing our purpose brings clarity, direction, and fulfillment to our daily lives.

In this episode, Elizabeth and I are discussing Dan Miller’s Wheel of Life illustration, which speaks to the various aspects of life and the importance of paying attention to each of these areas. We talk about my faith journey and recent encouragement I’ve received, the creative opportunities we can discover in the midst of challenges, and why it isn’t about where you start from, but where you’re going. We also bring out some of our best puns about wheels!

Please join me for this episode and let’s consider together how we can invest into all the aspects of our lives, bringing greater joy and fulfillment to each day.

Dawn shares her story of unexpectedly moving from pastoring to becoming an “accidental entrepreneur” and the owner of a six-figure copywriting business. We also discuss how to approach pricing (especially as a new entrepreneur), why personal growth is so important in the entrepreneurial journey, how to find the confidence to take the next step, and how discovering her true calling quickly transformed Dawn’s business (and income).

What happens when we make the choice to learn from those we respect, and then we take what has been invested into us and pour that into others? How does that impact them? Their families? Their work? Their friendships? Everyone they meet? We may never know the impact of our investment or even the simple acts of kindness we can choose every day.

You won’t want to miss my conversation with my co-host Elizabeth. We discuss some of our key takeaways from The Copywriting Academy Live workshop, the importance of choosing kindness, and the ways in which we can intentionally invest into others.

-The importance of changing our words - both to ourselves and others

It can be easy to look at others and feel like they have it pretty much together, while you’re just trying to figure it out as you go. Maybe you’re wondering if you belong at the table or when you’ll feel more confident and ready. But what are we missing by waiting to take action until it’s perfect or we feel like we have things figured out?

You won’t want to miss my conversation co-host Elizabeth. We share from our stories of getting started in business, how we think about those we admire, and how taking imperfect action has led us to where we are today.

Some other highlights from our conversation include:

-Why you shouldn’t let regret over lost time hold you back

-How recognizing it doesn’t have to be perfect opens new opportunities

-Why you shouldn’t wait for the perfect idea (spoiler alert: you may not find it if you wait!)

Please join me for this conversation and let’s reflect together on how recognizing that no one has it all together frees us all to take imperfect action and move forward to new adventures.

What if the hard things you’ve experienced in life lead to unique opportunities to be able to help others? Perhaps the things you’ve walked through and the lessons you’ve learned along the way are exactly what someone else needs to hear today. In healing and moving forward, you’re able to extend a hand up to the person who is in the place you used to be.

If this resonates with you, you won’t want to miss my conversation with my friend, coach, and podcaster, Shā Sparks.

Growing up with a father who was unwillfully drafted in the Army to serve time in Korea, Shā inherited her father’s “I don’t have a choice” mindset. Later she realized she did have a choice and overcame abuse, addiction, depression, anger, low self-worth, being a bully and being bullied. Today, she has proactively changed that fear-based phrase “I don’t have a choice” into determination, inspiring others to make fearless choices. She guides leaders to re-ignite their passion into a more aligned purpose and transform it into increased profit. She knows that if she can take her own traumatic experiences and transform them into a treasure, then so can you!

She is the CEO (Chief Excitement Officer) of Sparks of Fire International, a Certified Fearless Living Coach and Trainer, host of The Power of Investing in People podcast, host of the “Hey Shā, What Do I Say?” Facebook Live show, author of “How to Get Your Voice Back”, and Co-Founder of #FIRESTARTERS Book Project.

Shā shares her story of moving past difficult family relationships and an abusive relationship to find healing, her journey of discovering her calling to work with active military and veterans, and what she’s learned about herself and her purpose along the way.

Some additional highlights you’ll want to hear include:

  • The benefits of journaling and why guided journals can be helpful
  • The importance of prioritizing family relationships
  • How one conversation changed the direction of her work and life

Please join me for this conversation and let’s reflect together on how the challenges and hard times we’ve faced may have prepared us to be exactly what someone is needing today to move forward in their own journey.

Don’t we all just want to show up as ourselves in our work? To be an authentic version of ourselves, share the things that matter most to us, have our voices be heard, and thrive in our skills, gifts, and abilities. But it can be hard to show up as yourself.

You won’t want to miss my conversation with my friend and the owner of Inten Coaching, Amber Hamilton.

Amber is an entrepreneur and mom of four children. She has a passion for helping women think intentionally and strategically about their lives and their careers.

In our conversation, Amber shares the story of discovering her love for intentional conversations about business and life with other women, the importance of being vulnerable and real, and how she’s finding her place at the table.

Other highlights include:

-How she’s been reinventing herself in the midst of unexpected transition

-Why relationships matter so much in business

-How she’s learned to care less about what others think

Please join me for this conversation and let’s reflect together on how showing up as ourselves leads to stronger connections with others at the table.

You’ve probably heard that building relationships is critical to business achievement. People talk about networking and how it’s “not what you know, but who you know” that determines success. You won’t want to miss my conversation with my friend and the host of Success Profiles Radio, Brian K. Wright.

He has been featured on the nationally syndicated TV show, The List, as well as Entrepreneur, Authority Magazine, The Good Man Project, and numerous podcasts.

We discuss how he has been able to interview some big names in the business community, his favorite thing about being an entrepreneur, and his fantastic insights for preparing an interview-based show.

Some other highlights from this episode include:

  • Why he prepares more questions than he needs (and what he does with the extra questions)

Did you decide to start a business because you wanted to experience freedom, but now wonder where the freedom has gone? You were supposed to have more time, more flexibility, and more space to be creative, but maybe that feels like an elusive goal right now.

If you relate to this, I can't wait for you to hear my conversation with my friend and digital marketing expert, Lisa Catto.

In our conversation, Lisa shares about the business opportunities that have led her to her current work and the lessons she's learned along the way. We discuss the importance of automation and delegation in business, how her first (and only) traditional job showed her that she is unemployable (and why that’s a great thing for entrepreneurs), and the ways in which our personal growth impacts our businesses.

Some other highlights from our conversation include:

-Why giving back is essential to our fulfillment as business owners

-Her experience of being an innovator in digital marketing in the 1990s

-The value of listening to the wisdom of others and welcoming them into our journey

Please join me for this conversation and let's spend some time considering how to find more joy, fulfillment, and freedom in our businesses and lives.

Sometimes in the midst of unexpected transition and difficult circumstances, we move into a new place and see opportunities we hadn't ever anticipated. We may even find that the thing holding us back wasn't what we thought in the first place.

You’ll definitely want to hear my conversation with my friend, David Lee Martin. David is a Christian marketplace minister who is committed to helping you discover your awesome, and share it with the world!

David shares his story of unexpectedly transitioning from full-time church ministry to founding a ministry-oriented business. He speaks candidly about the challenges of starting a new business in the midst of difficult circumstances, shifting his mindset based on what the Bible truly teaches about money, and finding that what was really holding him back financially was fear of failure.

A few other highlights you won't want to miss:

-Why creating smaller goals might be the best way to stay motivated
-The importance of moving forward (even if slowly) in the direction of your dreams
-How he repurposes content in multiple formats (allowing him to host a daily podcast!)

Please join me for this conversation and let's reflect together on how unexpected challenges sometimes bring about opportunities and growth we can’t even imagine.

Do you sometimes feel like you're struggling to find your place and the work that feels the most meaningful for you? Maybe you've tried a few things, but you don't know if you've found your passion yet. Or maybe you've found what you love to do, but you’re trying to find the best fit for you.

Do you relate to this? If so, you won't want to miss my conversation with my friend and the co-host of The Business & Brews Show, Ryan Smeltz.

Ryan Smeltz and Gevin Vinson started The Business & Brews Show over a year ago. Business & Brews focuses on getting out the word about small businesses located in the greater Raleigh area and spotlights local NC breweries.

Ryan and Gevin met with Nick of Trek CBD and partnered together, which initially provided them with a space to host their show. Through the pandemic, they’ve now transitioned to a virtual platform.

Thanks to everyone involved, they are now live every Sunday at 7 pm EST on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter (Periscope), and Twitch. They also host “The Afterbrews'' and “How to Build a Business in a Pandemic” on these platforms. The audio can be found on Amazon, iTunes, iHeart Radio and wherever you listen to podcasts.

Ryan shares openly the story of his journey to finding his passion, including his time in the Army, several job fields, and his first business venture. We also discuss the significance of kindness in business and why it's important to just get started with what you have.

A few other highlights from our conversation include:

-The importance of who we associate with and how that can change over time

-Ryan's story of starting a face-to-face sales job with a broken leg

-Why you shouldn’t wait until your content is perfect to share it with the world

Please join me for this conversation with Ryan Smeltz and let's consider together the importance of the journey in finding the work that is most meaningful to each of us.

Do you sense that there's more in you - more to give to the world, more to experience, a more adventurous life to be lived - but you're not sure how to get started? Maybe you're wrestling with fear about leaving your comfort zone and the life you've been living. It feels like a leap, and yet you hope that just maybe there's more available to you.

If this resonates with you, then you won't want to miss my conversation with my friend and purpose & life mentor, Mark Delaney.

Mark and his wife Adena have spent their lives in the business of building people. When they became empty nesters they decided to go all in with a mission to help people know their purpose. Mark and Adena designed a coaching program called The Purpose Mastermind. This process allows people to clarify their major life purpose in just one sentence. Mark and Adena will spend the rest of their lives proclaiming a simple message. "Every person has great purpose, they can know it clearly, and be set free to pursue it boldly."

Join me for this conversation with Mark and let’s consider together how knowing our purpose brings clarity, direction, and fulfillment to our daily lives.

As we're nearing the end of 2020 and looking ahead to a new year, this is the perfect time to reflect on what we've learned and how we’ve grown, even in the midst of a difficult and challenging year.

Taking time to consider where we've been and where we're going can help us walk forward into the new year with confidence. That’s exactly what I want for you.

I spend some time in this episode reflecting on a few things that have most impacted my business and life this year. I want to share these lessons to give you a space to reflect on what you've learned this year and help you start the new year strong.

A few highlights from this episode include:

-How I reacted to making the most money I'd ever made in a month (it might not be what you think!)

-Why I advise leaders not to provide immediate correction in order to help their team improve

-The reason why I didn't wait until I had expensive equipment to start a podcast

Please join me in reflecting on lessons learned in 2020 and then I'd love to hear the things that have impacted your business and life this year. Please email me at dan@progrowthva.com or schedule a 15-minute call: https://calendly.com/progrowthva/coffee-chat

I appreciate you being here in 2020 and look forward to helping you move forward in your business and life in the new year!

Do you want to achieve more in your business and life, but you feel stuck and don't know why? Maybe there is a "story" that is holding you back.

In this episode, we discuss how the words of others and the circumstances we've walked through can impact who we are and who we become. When we identify the limiting beliefs that keep us from moving forward, we can show up more authentically - for our businesses, our relationships, and ourselves.

I share from my own story of realizing the beliefs that were holding me back. This year has been full of some mindset breakthroughs for me and I'm excited to share that with you.

You'll also hear about:

-What has helped me to stop constantly searching for the next shiny object

-Finding community in the midst of life and business transitions

-How satisfaction won't be found in more things (spoiler: we’ll also talk about where it is found)

-Why I stopped searching for the highly-successful mentors I was told to find and how that changed everything

Join me for this episode and let's consider together how pushing through limiting beliefs and showing up as ourselves can transform the way we do business and life.

This episode is a little different.

This week I cover a bit more of my story and thought it would be fun to answer 10 questions I have prepared for guests I might have on the show.

1. What is your story?

2. How has your journey shaped you into the person you are today?

*3. Can you tell me about a time when you had no idea what you were doing?*

4. How did you overcome that or "obstacle"?

5. How long have you been in your area of expertise?

6. If money weren’t an option, what would you do every day?

7. What advice would you give to your younger self?

8. What keeps you motivated to do what you do?

9. How do you practice self-care or plan for rest?

10. What is the vision for [YOUR COMPANY OR

YOURSELF] 5 years from now?

And if you're looking to start a business, this guide will show you how you can with just 15 hours a week.

How often should you clean your email list, what should you do with unsubscribes and unengaged, and why?

Too often I speak with people who are hanging on to their lists for a variety of reasons. I know you love them, at some point they engaged with something you offered and they’ve helped you to get where you are today.

As we achieve more, we notice that our circle of friends and people changes over time. The same is true of the people on your email list.

In this episode I share a few strategies for cleaning your email list, when you should consider it and what to do with those emails.

This week I have two takeaways to share with you that I believe are complimentary.

The first is about leadership, how do you define leadership? And the second is about mindset and how to decide how much "content" you're giving away.

Should you give people everything they need to be successful, or should you focus on giving them just enough? How do you decide how much is too much?

I believe the answer is in our mindset.

To contribute to your growth in your LIFE and your Business, we have to be aware of what we think, how we think, and continue to grow in our knowledge.

Episode Description

BONUS - Stick around as Jon guides us through a demonstration that you can use today to feel better, get focused, and lead well in a stressful situation.

Jon shares the transformation that led him to teach mindfulness and meditation as a tool businesses and veterans can use to improve their lives.

We talk through the differences between practicing meditation, mindfulness, and what mindfulness meditation is all about.

Three ways he believes that business leaders can apply these practices:

  1. Personally - the leaders themselves practice mindfulness and meditation to help manage stressful situations, responding rather than reacting to situations, before, during or after.
  2. As a leader, incorporating practices as an organizational strategy, by providing these tools to your team, they can be better prepared to manage stress, increase productivity and communication.
  3. Use these tools to improve empathy and kindness as an organization.

The recent partnership with eMindful to deliver a new webinar series (be sure to check the link below).

We discuss the benefits and effectiveness of incorporating regular practices of mindfulness meditation in your life and your business whether you're facing a crisis or planning for long term improvements in the way you approach every situation.

Hi, I'm Dan and my goal is to provide you with information and resources to help you make informed choices when it comes to, growth, marketing and achieving more in your business and your life.

Today I had a revelation as I listened to my new friend Dr Fred Jones (courtesy of Ray Edwards live at 5am).

We all have a story and experiences, if we don’t share them, there may be people suffering from not hearing it. Yes, someone out there may be suffering because I failed to take action to share the knowledge and information I have from my experiences.

The cobblers children have no shoes...

Three thoughts for today:

  1. Take Imperfect Action
  2. Your story matters
  3. Celebrate Small Wins
