The Post Party is dedicated to all things postpartum and post-adoption. We are moms and we know that adding a child to your family is a joy and a challenge. It's a time filled with changes in every part of your life. We don't want to add to your to-do list, we just want to chat about everything you're going through and share experiences and encouragement.
My guest this week is the delightful Kassidy Birdsong, a social worker by training who now is at home with her twins. Kassidy shares not only about twin life, but about an amazing toddler music program she began in a senior citizen memory care unit near her home. I do apologize for the echo in this episode. Inexpicably I decided not to plug in my headphones for this interview so it recorded Kassidy with a slight echo delay. But I promise it’s worth it. I had such fun talking with Kassidy. So, grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about the magic of two babies at once, learning to let go of expectations and do what’s best for your family, and Kassidy’s creative way to build community and meet the needs of three generations all at one time. This week I sat down and tried to explain some thoughts I’ve had about motherhood to Lori Lynn. And we recorded it to share with you guys. I hope I was able to explain myself well enough. The gist is that motherhood is like a buffet full of wonderful choices and there’s no way we can eat it all. We have to make choices. We are PRIVILEGED to make choices. And we have to leave some stuff for other people. Anyways, grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about choices in motherhood, the irony of complaining because we have to choose between several wonderful things, and where this whole idea came from in the first place. This week Lori Lynn and I thought we’d have a practical discussion about diapering and the different choices we made. Moms spend a lot of time and money on diapers and surprisingly we haven’t really covered it much on this podcast. So, grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we chat about fluffy bootys, various types of smell issues, and of course, what my favorite bargain brand is.

This week I’m thrilled to have Karen McVey as our guest. Karen is one of my go-to sources for wise council on all topics, especially motherhood. She and I are personality doppelgängers and I know that her advice will be something that is healthy and well thought out and will probably fit will with my life too. So, grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we chat about Karen’s seven postpartum seasons, the differences in having just a few young children versus having a larger family that includes helpful oder children, and how crucial it is that EVERY mom get support postpartum no matter how much experience she has. My co-host and currently postpartum mom Lori Lynn has experienced oversupply wine breastfeeding all over her babies. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we chat about signs you might have an oversupply because you’re breasts don’t come with ounce labels, various tricks for managing it. and Lori Lynn’s experiences donating milk to local moms and their babies. This is our first episode back after my summer break and I’m happy to announce that Lori Lynn gave birth to her daughter Delta Lynn in June. They are both doing fantastic and Lori Lynn will be back with us soon to talk about these past few weeks postpartum. We are kicking off this new year of the podcast with a super fun discussion. Rhiannon, my original co-host and dear friend is back today to fill us in on life as a twin mom. We talk about what’s unique about mothering twins, what they’re up to and we do a deep dive into mental health. But first I recorded a little explanation of my unexpected break this summer and what’s been going on at our house. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about baby boys, two of everything, and getting yourself the help you need. Lori Lynn and I had wanted to do a special episode for the 100th, but Lori Lynn is very close to her due date and is deep in pre-birth preparations. So instead, I had the very fun task of interviewing my oldest friend. Haley Foster and I have been in each other’s lives since before we were born. She is like family to me and she’s here today to share her postpartum stories. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about birth trauma, fighting to breastfeed, and how you take care of a baby when you, the mom, are the patient. Ok Let’s talk about this week’s episode. I’m super excited about this one! First, we are including a new segment called Ask a Doula where Lori Lynn puts on her doula hat and answers common Mom questions for us. And then we get into the main episode. This is a topic I hope to dive into more this next year of the podcast and it is the truth that every mom is a working mom. Let me say that again. Every. Mom. Is a. Working. Mom. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about what that phrase means to us, what we hope it means for you and a bit of history about moms and working life. >>>Take the SURVEY here
As Lori Lynn nears the birth of her third child it has us thinking about creating a home that works for our mothering needs. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about creating a space for ourselves, how we set up for the first weeks with a newborn, and why I never made a nursery for my first two babes. >>>TAKE OUR LISTENER SURVEY
It’s easy as moms to get so caught up in keeping our little human alive that we forget that we are human too. Lori Lynn and I are chatting today about how we get back to feeling human when we’ve gotten a little lost in the feeding, wiping, rocking, and other never-ending chores of motherhood. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about making sure all five senses are getting attention, which rooms we think should get the most attention, and the one area where we swap our introvert and extrovert hats for a little while. Our guest this week is Melissa Duncan. Melissa is a wife, mom to two boys, a lawyer, an assistant dean at a law school and the host of Influential Motherhood Podcast. While we make a point of recognizing that all moms are working moms, we also recognize that if your work is outside the home and for a paycheck, there are definitely some time constraints and points of stress that are different than for other moms. So Melissa is on the podcast sharing some life hacks she’s learned in her years juggling family and her other professional pursuits. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about the items Melissa buys in bulk to simplify laundry, the two types of lunches she rotates for balance, and the app I downloaded after Melissa shared about how it helps her communicate with her husband. It’s been a crazy few weeks at my house. And I’m working on plans for the podcast’s future. But part of those plans included spending the weekend moving rooms around in our house so I can have an office. And I’m also dealing with some lingering issues in my back and pelvis that I’ve talked about on the show before. Plus job changes for my husband, crazy kids, homeschooling, you know the drill. So, I decided to dig into our backlist and re-play one of my favorite episodes this week. The Body Image episode was originally aired as Episode 11. It features Rhiannon, my original co-host and I talking about our body image postpartum. I think about this topic a lot. And it’s really really important to me. Body image issues are a MAJOR problem for all women and the time around pregnancy and birth is a common trigger for eating disorders. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we revisit this chat about comments that may not be so well-meaning after all, feeling invisible, and why I firmly believe that it’s best to never compliment a woman on her body. This week Lori Lynn and I explore a topic we’ve touched on before, the realization that you’re trying to be a different kind of mom than you need to be. Or maybe you thought you’d be one kind of mother and it turns out you or your kids or your family situation requires you to be a totally different kind of mother. We’ve been there and we’re here today chatting about it. This week our episode is a little different than normal. My original co-host Rhiannon had her twins right before Thanksgiving and recently her birth video went viral on facebook. I took my microphone over to her house to talk to her about her birth. Our recording reflects her postpartum life so it starts off with her son Jude sharing his perspective, lots of baby noises, breaks for diaper changes, etc. and because at the end of the day we are just close friends cozied up on the couch chatting, our conversation is more casual than normal. But we had a great talk about her birth, the video, and I really think the best part is toward the end when we talked about why her video turned out so gorgeous and encouraging and what that means for all women. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of and join us as we talk about her twin home birth, building her team of caregivers, and what it would look like if every woman had a beautiful video showing her most powerful and tender moments as a mom. This week I’m sharing a conversation I had with Adriel Booker about miscarriage and its affect on our postpartum and post adoption experiences. Adriel is writer and speaker and the author of Grace Like Scarlett: Grieving with Hope after Miscarriage and Loss. On this week’s episode, we are talking about conversations we need to have with our partner. There are some seismic changes that occur with parenthood, and it’s not possible to fully realize all that entails until it’s happened. You can prepare a bit ahead, but it’s probably best to set aside some time to talk after the baby or child has arrived and you’ve started to see what your new normal will be like. For this discussion, Lori Lynn and I were joined by Erin Young, one of the co-founders of Houston Birth and Baby, a doula agency serving the greater Houston area. She is a doula, childbirth educator, massage therapist and much more. But for now, grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about sharing the mental load of your family, a whole lot about sex, and some tips about how to approach these conversations in the first place. Our special guest and Anna birthed their second sons within days of the other, but their postpartum stories were dramatically different. Our guest brought her son home to a broken and abusive marriage that further disintegrated and eventually ended in divorce last year. She’s on the podcast today to share what it was like to survive and leave an abusive marriage while also taking care of two young children. We’ve decided to leave out most of the specific details of the abuse and divorce for the sake of the other people involved, but Anna personally walked with our guest through this season of her life and we are so glad she’s open to share what she has learned.
This episode is for the moms still in abusive marriages and all their friends who are trying to help them.
So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and join us as we talk about the anatomy of a destructive relationship, the beauty of a supportive community, and what our guest believes the best first step is if you are in a destructive relationship and you don’t know what to do.

So join us as we chat about what really happens with baby sleep, weight loss, and recovery during the postpartum or post-adoption season.
In today’s episode Anna is talking about the post-adoption season with her friend Kate Zerbe. She is an adoptive mom to 5 kids and a step-mom to three more and I’m so happy to share her story with everyone.
Kate and Anna met in the Facebook hangout group for the podcast Sorta Awesome and have become friends as they realized all that they had in common. She is in Oklahoma and Anna is in Texas and it’s so fun that we live at a time when it’s easy to have long-distance friendships! It seems very appropriate that we used the internet to interview her for this podcast.
So grab a cup of coffee, or a glass of wine, and join us as we discuss sibling adoption, the saving grace of crazy schedules, and the awesome way Kate’s husband summed up their first few weeks as a family of ten.
Show Notes:
In episode 19 we're talking about the things we said we'd never do, that we ended up doing out of necessity. The truth is that a major part of parenthood is flexibility!! So this episode is all about celebrating the family you have instead of the family you imagined you would have.

On today's episode we're talking about twins with our friend Katie Luong. She is the mom to identical twin boys and shares what her postpartum experience was like. We chatted about support systems and the postpartum traditions of her Chinese-American in-laws and the importance of realizing you don't have to feel emotions just because other people feel them.
In this special edition of the podcast we will be talking with Keriann MacElroy about the Cry It Out method of sleep training.
If you haven’t met Keriann yet, she was our guest on Episodes 16 and 17, she is a certified sleep sense sleep consultant and her business is Dream Factory Sleep Solutions. During our interview we spent time talking about the cry it out method and we decided to make a special episode dedicated just to this topic.
In today's episode we are wrapping up the conversation between Anna and Keriann MacElroy, a professional sleep consultant at Dream Factory Sleep Solutions. The discussion includes her certification as a sleep consultant, tips and tricks for helping your baby sleep, and what it was that helped Keriann's son sleep at night.
In today's episode, Anna is talking sleep struggles with Keriann MacElroy, a professional sleep consultant with Dream Factory Sleep Solutions. Keriann was inspired by her family's sleep struggles and successes to develop a career helping families with their own sleep problems.
In this episode Anna and Rhiannon discuss how the postpartum and post-adoption season brings changes to the division of labor in your home, how you communicate, and your sex life. Using their own stories and wisdom they have gleaned over the years, they discuss the normal changes in your marriage or partnership that can be painful, but healthy.

On today’s episode we’re chatting with Emily. She’s a wife and mom to two boys and she works part time in a big office building downtown which means we inevitably ended up discussing breast pumps and other working mom dilemmas. Emily can see the humor in just about everything and after talking with her I will never hear the word guacamole without thinking of her.
You can hear another interview with Emily on the Sorta Awesome Podcast where she shared about her work with refugees.
On this episode we're getting a little silly, chatting about knowing when to say no. And as a bonus, we give you ideas about what to say yes to instead. So join us as we chat about stretchy pants, scales, and hot coffee.
Jaime George is our guest today. She's a friend of Rhiannon and Anna and she's also a registered nurse working on the labor and delivery floor at Dallas County's public hospital, Parkland. In her role she serves a diverse group of patients.
While Jaime only sees patients for a few hours postpartum, we wanted to have her on because she, and nurses like her, play such a pivotal role in birth. And because processing your and or your child's birth story is an important mental and emotional process of the postpartum or postadoption season, we wanted to have her speak about her job.
Our hope is that as you listen to Jaime describe her work, typical day, challenges, and what she feels and thinks as she goes about her work, you will get a perspective about birth that helps you process your family's story.
