What would you do if God gave you an unexpected gift? Jennifer Matias experienced health issues. Her doctor wanted her to have surgery, but she pushed it off hoping things would change. The events that followed have impacted her view on life and what it means to have a relationship with God.
Mike and Jennifer Matias have been married for over 30 years, building a legacy of faith, family, and love. Together, they’ve raised four children and are now proud grandparents to seven grandchildren.

David Tautofi is a visionary leader, educator, administrator, award winning head football coach, and advocate committed to uplifting youth, families, and communities across Hawaii and beyond. He is the founder of PRISMLife (Pacific Region International Sports Management)—Hawaii’s first sports management specializing in athlete advocacy and sports law. David was a captain for the UCLA football team, a three-year All Academic PAC 10, and Hula Bowl selection.

However, today in American society the actions of a father has changed to the point where it could be strongly argued that there is a hole in the way they carry out their responsibilities. Billy graduated from Pearl City High School, and from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a degree in Business Management. He graduated from the Every Nation School of Campus Ministry in 2003 and is currently working on his Masters Degree in Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary. Eric and Nicole have been married for 9 years. Eric has 3 children from his first marriage, which he became a single father after losing his first wife suddenly to heart complications. Eric and Nicole met 4 years later and decided to get married after dating for 7 months. It has been a roller coaster of events ever since!After being married for 7 months, they obtained their first commercial space to open a breakfast and lunch restaurant for their community in Hawaii Kai. In May 2012, Moena Café was opened.It immediately took off and it’s been a success ever since! With Eric’s 20 years of culinary experience and Nicole’s entrepreneurial spirit and Accounting/Management background for 10 years, they had a heart to open their own restaurant together. And God has blessed them beyond their dreams!
After opening this Hawaii Kai location, they were asked to franchise from a Japanese company to take their business to Japan. They opened 2 locations in Japan, one in Tokyo and one in Kyoto. Then there was another location opened in Shanghai after Japan. A Taiwan franchisor contacted them in 2016 and was interested in taking Moena Café to Taiwan and so they proudly opened their 5th location in July 2016. In 2017, our 6th location was opened, back to where it all began on Oahu in Kapolei. Due to economic challenges, they have had to close several locations, but they’ve been so grateful for the opportunities that the Lord has given them. As of recent, they opened a new concept called Moena Sweets. It’s their newest sweet shop offering ice cream, gelato, baked goods, and a full coffee bar.

Ms. Lillie Knauls was a member of the Edwin Hawkins Singers and the song is “O, Happy Day” – sound familiar? Today we feature Ms. Lillie Knauls whom God has used to touch multitudes with his love.
Ms. Lillie Knauls was born in Arkansas and grew up in a family of 6 girls and 1 boy. At 13 her father passed away and the family moved to Seattle, Washington to live with her mother’s sister. After high school she began working at Pacific Telephone in 1956. Just months before getting married in 1963 Ms. Lillie called off the wedding and moved to San Jose, California. That’s when the opportunity came to be a member of the Edwin Hawkins Singers. Ms. Lillie sang across the United States and Europe in concert halls and television shows. On behalf of her group’s induction into the Gospel Hall of Fame Ms. Lillie accepted the award. She’s appeared regularly on the Gaither Homecoming features.

How does a physician develop a passion for the healing of people groups and nations? Dr. Robert Doe served as a family physician and emergency room physician. He established a network of care for medical assistance patients in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and worked as a County Prison medical director. Recently he’s been involved in medical missions while working with the Kurdish Regional Government in Iraq creating a new model of care in the region.
Dr. Robert Doe graduated from Dartmouth College and Medical School. He’s married to Sylvia. They have four daughters and six grandchildren.

Eric Ebisu grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii in a small sugar plantation town called Paauilo along the Hamakua Coast an hour north of Hilo, near Honokaa. He is a “sansei” or third generation Japanese American whose grandparents immigrated from Japan to Hawaii to work the sugar plantations. He graduated from Honokaa High School in 1970, attended UH and graduated with a B.S. in Physics in 1974, Secondary Science & Math Teacher Certification 1976, & M.Ed. in 1980. He taught junior & senior high school in Hawaii for 8 years before going to seminary. He graduated from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1988 with anM.Div. He served as pastor at Pearl City Community Church for 22 years, then he & his wife were called to Yokohama, Japan as missionaries for 8 years. Eric is married to Rita, his wife of 42 years, with 3 daughters, Jessica, Natalie, & Crystal (who are all married) and 3 grandchildren.
