Ever feel like life’s moving so fast, you barely have time to process any of it?
What if the simple act of putting pen to paper—or even recording a voice note—could help you heal, grow, and reconnect not just with your truest self, but with God? In this thought-provoking episode of the Imagine Yourself Podcast, Lanee and Sandy revisit a heartfelt conversation with Tareka Wheeler of Professional DNA, exploring the “unexpected gift” of journaling. Tareka shares how journaling became more than a habit—it became a lifeline. She opens up about how this practice has helped her walk through difficult seasons with God, creating space to be raw, real, and spiritually grounded.
___
Through candid reflections and touching stories—including that of a grieving mother journaling through her child’s illness—Tareka reveals how journaling can be both a time capsule and a form of therapy. It’s a sacred space where you can pour out your heart, process your pain, and listen for God’s gentle whisper in the midst of it all.
We also explore common barriers that hold people back—like worrying about privacy, struggling with consistency, or feeling “not creative enough.” But journaling doesn’t have to be polished or perfect. Whether you're jotting notes in a journal, typing thoughts on your laptop, or simply speaking into your phone, every honest reflection can become an act of courage and connection. It’s not about performance, it’s about presence. And God meets us in that presence.
You'll walk away from this episode with practical encouragement to try (or revisit) journaling as a spiritual and emotional tool. It’s a powerful way to process life, pray honestly, and remember who you are and whose you are. Journaling just might become an unexpected gift on your journey of healing, faith, and personal growth.
Ready to reconnect—with yourself, with your faith, and with what matters most? Press play and let this conversation guide you there.

Let’s dive into the ever-relevant topic of divine timing—how it feels when life doesn’t line up with our plans. This heartfelt conversation is for anyone who’s praying, waiting, striving—or just wondering if they’ve missed their moment. Lanee and Sandy remind us that even when we can’t see the full picture, there is movement happening behind the scenes. It’s an invitation to breathe, trust, and take heart—knowing that God’s timing is always on point.
Through personal stories, honest reflections, and a little humor, they explore how faith, patience, and even discomfort can open the door to unexpected peace and purpose. Sandy shares her recurring encounters with the numbers 8:28 and how they led her to the comforting promise of Romans 8:28: “All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to his purpose.”—a truth that’s been a steady reminder during seasons of uncertainty.
Lanee takes it to another level looking at the difference between "manifesting" desires and surrendering them to God, explaining how gratitude, faith, and humility can coexist with ambition and hard work. She shares how this helps navigate unanswered prayers and long delays. Her takeaway? A powerful mindset shift: “God leads. I follow.” It’s not about passivity but about staying open and grounded as we do the work and trust God with the results.
So grab some coffee or whatever your favorite beverage is….settle in and press play to be encouraged to trust the timing, trust the process—and most of all, trust the One who’s writing your story.

Forgiveness sounds great on paper, right? But actually doing it in real life? Totally different story. In this episode, we get real about what forgiveness really is and what it definitely isn't. Spoiler: it's not about forgetting or saying what happened was okay.
We'll share some powerful stories, like a mother's struggle to forgive after a tragic accident and how certain programs are bringing victims and offenders together for some deep healing. Plus, we’ll spend some time looking at the obstacles we can face when forgiving ourselves. How many of us have said, "I'll never forgive myself"?
This isn’t about forcing anyone to forgive before they’re ready; it's about exploring how forgiveness can change your life for the better when the time is right. Along with some very personal experiences, we'll also dive into techniques that have been used by psychologists, setting boundaries, and practical steps to get further down the road to forgiveness.
We’d love to hear what you think! You can reach out here by dropping a comment, on social media, or on our website. So, grab your favorite drink, get comfy, and let’s imagine a more forgiving you—one step at a time.

Life definitely has peaks and valleys. It's easy to have joy and gratitude when things are looking up. But can we keep our high hopes when it gets tough, like really tough? That's the question we dove into after learning some great tips to keep a positive mindset in the middle of our "challenges" from Robin Shear, the Joy Coach, in our last episode, 'Inviting God into Your Mess.' In this episode, we decided to put her advice to the test. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for us, we were able to test this against some pretty stinky situations in our personal lives. We'll take an honest look at both our success and failures here.
Finding gratitude and joy isn't always a walk in the park, and that's totally okay! We explored the importance of giving ourselves and others grace. Also drawing from both our personal experiences and expert guidance, we discussed how to support others through rough patches, finding that balance between empathy and uplifting encouragement.
Spoiler alert: There are definitely things we discovered that we can all do for ourselves and to support others, that can make tough times a bit easier.

No, it’s probably not laziness or making excuses. Usually, we believe we are making the best decision possible when we talk ourselves out of our dreams. To be fair, there absolutely are times when common sense needs to prevail; but often our reasoning needs to be reexamined. Sometimes it’s fear, doubt, overthinking or other self-limiting belief that squashes our big goal before we can even get started. Or, maybe we’re waiting to have it all “figured out” before we begin!
In this episode, Business and Mindset Coach, Jackie Prewitt talks about taking what she calls “messy action” and embracing imperfection along the way. Jackie shares her journey from being on the shy side and afraid to move forward to someone who is proactive and confident. The road wasn’t a smooth straight path for her and typically isn’t for anyone. She says so many of us give up along the way because we don’t pick ourselves back up from failure and remember that we have done and can do hard things. We can also grab onto God to help pull us through.
Whether you’re just in the “discovering your passion” stage, needing to find the motivation to begin or get some encouragement to keep going -- we think Jackie’s nonjudgmental, fun approach will have you dreaming big dreams again. It sure was a kick in the pants for us! (in a good way, of course!) Click play for some tips that will not only make you think, but want to act, too!

If someone asked you a decade ago, “where do you see yourself in ten years?”, how close to reality did that turn out to be? If you’re like a lot of us, despite your best intentions, it looks very different.
Life doesn't always go as planned, but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. In fact, the unexpected can lead us to incredible blessings. Not everything that doesn't work out is a failure. Sometimes, those closed doors help us to pivot to something much better. In this episode we look at tapping into the joy we do have, but we also discuss how to better tolerate or even embrace adversity. It’s in the tough times that strength is forged.
Could you use a change in perspective? Click play and let’s see if we can really let go and let God.

Overthink: verb: to spend more time thinking about something than is necessary or productive. This little word can activate everything from little annoyances to major mental roadblocks. It comes in many forms: constantly worrying about the future, “analysis paralysis” that stifles decision-making, over-analyzing past mistakes, and second guessing ourselves in social situations and relationships. Those are just a few of the ways we tend to overthink.
In this episode, we’ll detail the major ways many psychologists categorize overthinking. There’s a good chance you’ll recognize yourself in one or more. Then, we’ll follow up with five steps to slow down or stop the overthinking cycle. Along with tips from pros, we’ll recount some successes and failures we’ve had along the way. Some of these situations include Sandy’s recovery from “catastrophizing” (otherwise known as drama) and Lanée learning to cope with embarrassing situations (and we DO mean embarrassing).
Join us as we imagine a life free from the burdens of overthinking and discover how to find inner peace and embrace the unexpected. We’ll talk about tapping into our faith and how trusting God and His timing can have a huge effect on our clarity and comfort level. Plus, we focus on silencing that ever-present inner critic. So grab some coffee or tea, click play, and let's navigate the path to a more balanced and positive mindset together.

We've all been there – those moments when we find ourselves trapped in a cycle of negative self-talk, dwelling on missed opportunities, and regretting past decisions. The "should've, could've, would've" mentality can be a heavy burden to carry. It can steal our joy and blind us to our blessings. We wanted to explore ways to break free from this pattern, whether it occasionally gets in the way of our happiness or full-out sabotages our life.
Inspired by one of our former guests, psychotherapist Blaine Lawson, this episode has us looking at how to shake loose the grip of regret, silence our inner critic and help us appreciate our “perfect imperfectness”. Remember, fretting over the past doesn’t help. Let’s leave those “alternate realities” to movie and TV show plots and accept where we are in this present moment.
Changing our mindset also helps us build a better future because every setback is an opportunity for growth. Instead of allowing failures to define us, let's use them as stepping stones towards a better version of ourselves while we trust God’s timing in our lives. Are you ready for some change? Click play for actionable ideas on how to get rid of “should coulda woulda” once and for all.

Imagine that you’re in a race, but instead of focusing forward on the hurdles in front of you or at the finish line, you’re looking at all the other racers to your right and left. It probably would not end well. However, when you think about it, that’s how we are sometimes in life. In this short episode, we take a look at the insights we gained from our last guest, Angela Scott in “Comparison Detox.” Through personal stories of both successes and failures, we share what we’ve learned about casting aside comparison and competition…and running our own race, even when it’s the most difficult.
This can be an uncomfortable topic that forces us to be honest with ourselves. We promise to try to be transparent and encourage you to do some soul-searching as well. Click play for some encouragement in finding your own God-given gifts instead of worrying about how others are “stacking up” against you. The only competition you really have is yourself.

How often do you compare yourself with others? Most of us do it way too often, thanks in part to social media. Comparison can be harmful to your mental and emotional health, leading to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. It can also cause jealousy, envy, and a lack of appreciation for yourself and others. You may have heard the quote “Comparison is the thief of joy.” It can also be the thief of dreams. Our guest, author Angela Scott said it almost stole hers. Through faith, friends and fierce honesty with herself, Angela was able to face down comparison. In this episode we learned so much about what we’re calling “Comparison Detox.”
Angela Scott is the author of Yearning: Daily Encouragement for Remaining Hopeful as you Wait . It’s a truly inspiring devotional for the seasons of waiting that we all go through, but it almost didn’t happen. Angela had to push aside her fear of not being up to the task, especially when she saw the progress of those who were more experienced and already successful. Once she realized that she needed to “run her own race” and trust God’s timing, she found both peace and the courage to move forward. Then by opening up to others, she also got help from those she called "purpose sisters."
Angela told us, “There is enough room for us all. I felt like God just kept saying, run YOUR race. Stop looking at what this person is doing. Let them run their race." We all have unique gifts and talents and there is room for everyone to be successful. It doesn’t matter what your dream is or what stage you are in life. It doesn’t matter if you’re going after your dream for the first time or the hundredth time. Every time you begin again, you begin with new knowledge.
We think Angela’s story will both bless you and give you some practical tips for escaping the comparison trap. It may also open your eyes to how to reach your goals AND enjoy the journey that you are on. Remember, nothing is impossible with God (Luke 1:37). Say a prayer and ask God what He wants to show you. We hope you’ll click play for some inspiration.

Sometimes life takes a turn in a bad direction, leaving us feeling helpless and uncertain about the future. Sure, we realize that God is in control and can find comfort in that; however, if we’re being honest, it’s usually not enough to bring us peace. In this episode, both of us (Lanee and Sandy) share some big curveballs life has thrown our way recently. As we’re in the midst of these trials, we reflect back on what the guest on our last episode, Lisa Howze shared about how faith was the basis for her resilience and hope.
As much as we try to focus on the positives that can eventually come from our struggles, we’re not here to just throw around clichés about making lemonade out of lemons. We want to be as open and authentic as possible. However, we definitely want to give you encouragement and fill you in on what’s working for us now and has been useful in the past. Everyone’s situation is unique, but we hope what we share gives you not only comfort, but helpful information.
Trusting God means accepting that there are reasons beyond our comprehension. It's an invitation to lean on our faith and believe that even in the midst of turmoil, God has a plan for us. By embracing this trust, we can find solace in the knowledge that we are not alone.

If you’re not satisfied with where you are in life right now, instead of wondering how you got there, remember that it is largely the choices you make moving forward that will affect your future. These can be major decisions that send you on a certain trajectory or small daily choices that sometimes have a big impact on your life or well-being. Are you following God’s plan for the best outcomes? Is that something you can even know for sure?
In this episode we dig into those questions. We were inspired by the guests on our last episode: “How to Find Faith in the Small Things (w/Tecia Janes & Andra Pape of Choosing Him Ministries)”. They taught us how we all have unique and special gifts and talents that God gives us and how we all have personal stories that can have an impact on others.

What’s the inner dialogue you have running? Does it lift your hopes and dreams, or deep down are you sabotaging yourself with negativity and doubt? There’s a famous quote by Lao Tzu that says, “Watch your thoughts, they become your words; watch your words, they become your actions; watch your actions, they become your habits; watch your habits, they become your character; watch your character, it becomes your destiny.” Inspired by the guest on our last episode; “Can Your Thoughts Really Change Your Life? (w/Coach and Author Christine Meyer)”, we set out to implement some of her suggestions to see the impact thoughts had on our lives. Spoiler Alert, it was huge.
In this bonus episode, some of the things we dive into are: how shifting thoughts and attitudes when things don’t go our way can affect not only our mood but our outcomes; how being willing to experiment with even the smallest changes can lead to huge results and how focusing on someone else’s issues sometimes keeps us stuck in our own.
Circumstances and other people are not within our control, but we can certainly affect ourselves, others and our circumstances by the way we perceive and ultimately deal with things. That doesn’t mean we’re on our own. If we ask, God is there to guide us, and some situations will require professional help. Are you ready to take responsibility for your life change? It goes without saying that our thoughts can have a powerful impact on our moods and emotions. We also know what we think can turn into words and influence actions. Thoughts can even have a direct effect on how we feel about ourselves. Is there any way to gain control of our thoughts and impact our lives in a positive way? In this podcast we look at that question. According to our guest, it’s not only possible but a lot more simple and direct that you might think.
Christine Meyer is an executive life coach and author of "Keep It Simple, Smartypants! Stop Overthinking. Start Aligning. Live Happy”. She guides us on a journey of empowerment, so we can stop self-sabotaging and find a way to create and live out our dreams.

Is there something whether big or small in your life you'd like to change? Something you've tried and failed over and over. Well, it's kind of like Glinda told Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz about getting home to Kansas: you've had the power within you all along! If you remember, though, Dorothy had to learn something to access the power of her ruby slippers. In her case it was that “there’s no place like home,” Our goals - and the actions we need to take to achieve them - are most likely quite different, but maybe we can think of the “Yellow Brick Road” as the brain/body connection that enables us to tap into the power within. It could be power to change habits, lose weight, get organized, find time for prayer/meditation, save money or any number of things.
We learned about tapping into this power when we interviewed Erin Tennant who lost more than 130 pounds after years of trying just about everything else. In the episode “Failing Her Way to Weight Loss Success: How Erin Tennant Did It,” she explained how she had to do some serious thinking about her prior failed efforts. After all, she had other things she was able to achieve, why not losing weight and keeping it off? Her conscious living method was born and adapted though what she called trial and correction (instead of trial and error). The brain/body connection plays a big role as does mindset and self-talk. The most important thing is that you have all that you need to succeed within.
In this episode, we jump in and use her methods for issues where we needed help. Like Erin, they include health, but we also were able to move the needle on some other situations plaguing us. We’ll share what worked and what didn’t and give tips on how you can tap into your own superpower. If you’ve got a change you’d like to make, click play -- and we’ll try to help you get on your way down the Yellow Brick Road and to victory.

Human beings are obsessed with love. The number of songs, movies, books you can find about it seem infinite! Of course, there are many types of love, but the one we’re focusing on in this episode is the romantic kind. A few weeks back, we featured an episode with Relationship Coach Renee Suzanne called “Finding Love at Any Age.” The episode was so popular the advice she gave was so incredible, we wanted to see if we (as married women) could apply it to long term relationships and marriage.
What we come out with is six tips that can be helpful for those who are those still looking for that special someone and committed couples who want to improve their relationship. We include tips on how to talk to your partner, trying to believe the best, growing and adapting together, recharging and re-capturing the spark, limiting expectations while not reading into things and knowing your limits on how much you can change your significant other.
Here's to finding love that lasts and making the most of it!

We love a good success story, especially when someone finally achieves a goal after years of defeat. For those trying to lose weight or just get healthier, Erin’s story will especially resonate. Her loss of a whopping 130 pounds was preceded by countless diet attempts with calorie or entire food-group restrictions. These would either not work for her or she would gain the weight right back. She calls herself a “recovering dieter” who finally found a path to success by figuring out what had and and hadn't worked in the past, by talking herself through things and with trial and error…or as she would say “trial and correction.”
Erin Tennant is a Mindset Coach & Consultant for Personal and Professional Wellness. Her company is called “Grow Well Coaching.” She now works with clients not only with weight loss but also achieving other goals though her “conscious living” method. In this podcast, though, we focused mostly on her weight loss journey and how she accomplished something she once thought to be impossible. As she put it, she was able to find success in so many other parts of her life, but weight loss had always escaped her.
As well as some of the specific tips and tricks that worked for Erin, we talk about understanding our relationship with food, the difference between hunger and emotional eating (Erin says both can be OK!), finding the motivation within yourself and most importantly giving yourself the grace and space to fail and try again as many times as you need to.
There will be no body-shaming in this episode. Erin is quick to point out that there are plenty of people who live in bigger bodies who are healthy and happy. But if you want to lose a little weight or a lot…or just want to find out how her methods could help with any anything that makes you feel stuck, click play and be inspired by Erin.

It’s true that we can make changes any time of the year. There’s nothing magical about the coming of a new year that will help good habits stick or bad habits disappear. However, it is a time that many of us commit to these “resolutions.” Maybe there’s something about a fresh calendar year that inspires us to believe these previously illusive changes are now possible, or perhaps it’s just become a tradition. Every January we can count on lists of top resolutions popping up in our newsfeeds; and while they do vary year to year, there are three that usually land at or near the top. They are health/weight loss, organization/decluttering and saving money/getting personal finances in order.
In this episode, we get sound and actionable advice from experts in each of these fields.

You may have heard the quote, “You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending.” C.S. Lewis said it decades ago, but its meaning seems to really resonate right now. These days, we hear so much about people reassessing their lives; and in doing so re-discovering dreams, passions and purpose. Their stories inspire us but may also leave us wondering if we could do that too…and if we did, where would we even start? Life has a way of taking us down many roads, some are unplanned detours. We may get to a point when we look back and wonder if it’s too late. Spoiler alert: it’s not.
Inspired by our last episode “Can You Really Find True Happiness? (w/ Life Coach, Kerry Rasenberger)” and the Instagram Live we did with Kerry, “Finding Your Purpose”, we take a few moments to dive into the subject of discovering…or RE-discovering purpose.

We’ve all seen those quotes that say: “Happiness Is…” They’ve been around for decades, from the old Peanuts cartoons to quotes on social media. Happiness is holding a warm puppy. Happiness is a long walk with a friend. Happiness is smelling fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. No doubt you could fill in your own with many things. They are all wonderful, but they are circumstantial. They don’t get to the root of finding true happiness. In this episode, we wanted to know what that might look like, so we invited someone who could offer some simple techniques that will not only help us explore finding it but allow us to dive into what may be holding us back from grasping contentment.
Kerry Rasenberger (Kerry Life Coach) is one of our favorite people! Along with her clients, she deals out wisdom to over ninety-thousand followers on Instagram. We’ve also had her on the podcast previously in an enlightening episode called “Great Relationships Start With the One You Have With Yourself”. A certified life coach who reinvented herself and started her own business in her 50’s, Kerry has learned a thing or two about discovering happiness for herself and for those she coaches. In this episode, she focuses on things like self-care, relationships that have healthy boundaries, and creating an environment in which we can thrive.
“Self-care is health care,” she says. We need to be careful not to confuse prioritizing taking care of ourselves and our happiness with selfishness. When we show up as our best selves we are better equipped to be there for others as well.
Truth: this is not a magic cure-all for contentment. Many times, things need to be dealt with on a much deeper level. It is, however, a very eye-opening look at what may be holding you back from finding your joy. Grab your headphones, hit play and take some time to reflect. The more honest you can be with yourself as you listen, the better.

Take Kerry’s Happy Life Assessment
Sometimes it feels like there is a never-ending cycle of tragedy, disaster and divisiveness in the world. Now more than ever kindness, compassion and empathy are needed. Instead, it seems like conflict, name-calling and resentment are the norm. Is there even hope for the centuries-old saying “Love Thy Neighbor”? For people of faith, of course, it’s not just a saying or an ideal, but something we are instructed to do. And yet, many say that it’s never seemed more difficult.
So, who exactly are our “neighbors”? Is it just those in close proximity or does that mean everybody everywhere? Also, do we actually have to love them or is it okay to simply tolerate them? We decided to revisit one of our very first episodes to explore what it really means to love our neighbors and why it ultimately benefits us as well.

How to help those affected by Hurricane Ian
Basements, garages, and closets can all become havens for clutter. But so can your mind! Influenced by the steady stream of input which can at times be unhelpful at best and toxic at worst, our brains can feel full of cobwebs. In our last episode, Easy Ways to Stay Organized, we talked with Clutter-free living expert, Deanna Yates. Our focus was on habits, routines, and processes to help organize and maintain our living space. In this bonus mini-episode, we use some of those principles and a few lessons of our own to try to clear the mental clutter.
Feelings of negativity, confusion and overwhelm can sometimes be caused or exacerbated by things like what we watch, who we follow on social media, the people around us and even our own self-talk. We discovered that just as we may need to change schedules and routines in different seasons of life, what we expose ourselves to may need to change too. We invite you into the conversation: click play to see if clearing the clutter in your mind may be what you need.

Being more organized is something that can add both efficiency and productivity to your life. Chances are it would also make life easier. To be fair, it definitely comes more naturally to some people, but anyone can get the hang of it. It’s also true that getting organized isn’t a one-time thing. It’s all about creating systems that work for you and those in your house, so things can stay the way you want them without it being overwhelming or over-complicated. In this episode we look at simple ways not just to declutter and get more organized, but ways to get systems and routines in place that make it easier to stay on track.
Stepping in to help is Clutter Free Living Expert Deanna Yates. She’s the founder and CEO of Wannabe Clutter Free and the host of the Wannabe Minimalist podcast. She helps us move beyond the boxes, bins and lists (although there is some of that!) to simple tactics that are effective and customizable. Deanna shows us how staying flexible is important because so much can depend on your circumstances, your schedule and season of life. We also loved that she showed us that developing habits and routines can actually be fun (true story!). Deanna’s ideas are amazing, and her enthusiasm is infectious. It may be just the motivation you need!
So, whether you’re one step away from being on Hoarders, an organization ace that needs just a few tweaks…or like most of us, somewhere in between…we think this will be a big help. Click play to begin your trip from clutter to clarity and have some fun along the way!

When we’re in the middle of a challenging or difficult time, sometimes it seems like the worst part is all the uncertainty. We tell ourselves it would be easier to get through if we just knew how the situation would turn out or even how long we’d be going through it. Why can’t it be like finding out the final score of a close game or knowing what happens to our favorite character in the season finale of a Netflix binge?... at least at some point soon we’ll have our answer. Of course, reality is much different. We're trying to look through life's murky waters without knowing when (or if) they will clear. It’s that struggle that we look at in this bonus mini-episode.
If we are people of faith, we can simply say trusting God is the way through. However, sometimes even as we say, “God is in control; I give it to Him,” inside we’re still just as bound up with anxiety. As we reflect on our last episode, Faith Over Fear: Singer Gabbie McGee on How to Get Your Confidence Back, werecall Gabbie’s trudge through some tough challenges as self-doubt tried to take away her dream.
We’ll use her advice as we work our way through some of our own current uncertainties and hope that sharing them will help you through your own murky waters.
Do you ever feel like the biggest thing holding your back is…you? Whether it’s starting something new or starting something over, many times fear and self-doubt creep in and try to squash our dreams. Vocalist Gabbie McGee is an inspiration for all of us looking to overcome these confidence killers. Her story is one of leaning on faith, family, and her own determination to bring her amazing talent back out into the world.
Struggling with the feeling of not being good enough isn’t uncommon for anyone, but it can be multiplied when you’ve got the pressure of the public spotlight. In this episode, Gabbie talks about her break from the music business for her own mental and spiritual health, and what she faced re-entering the super-competitive world of entertainment. She says sitting at home and watching some of the people she started in the business with accepting Grammy’s and American Music Awards was not easy, but she does not regret taking a step back for one minute. She wants us to know that not only is it OK to take a break when you need to, but not to be afraid to get back in when you want to. Her coach inspired her with the words, “Don’t let your age or what you think has passed you by, stop you from doing something right now.” That’s a word for all of us!
We think you’ll love meeting Gabbie! Not only is she an award-winning jazz vocalist, but she’s also a songwriter and music composer for film & television. And, she’ll be the first to tell you that her favorite role is at home where she is a wife and busy mom of three. Listen in as she fills us in on the highs and lows of her life with some amazing stories about how God has used both wonderful and difficult things: from Steve Harvey being blown away by her singing voice on Family Feud to how she turned the heartbreaking loss of her sister into a beautiful online boutique called Bloom & The Bee to honor her memory and serve others. We’ll also learn about her latest endeavors, including a way to support her in the Opening Act contest for a chance to sing at the Hollywood Bowl. For many of us, there’s no shortage in changes we’d like to make. The little voice in our head never seems to shut up about the things we’d like to do better or more consistently. Sometimes we beat ourselves up about bad habits we’d like to break. It can be overwhelming. In this episode, we take a deep breath and a step back to focus instead on small changes and their potentially large impact.
In our last episode “Up Your Energy at Any Age”, Health and Lifestyle Consultant Craig Bruce told us about little shifts we could make in our habits and routines that could potentially have a huge effect. Two important keys for us were that they were small and simple. No matter how good a habit or behavior is for us, the chances of us sticking with it expand exponentially if it’s low on the difficulty scale. Nobody wants to push a boulder up a mountain, these changes are more in line with carrying a rock in your pocket.
After the advice from Craig, both of us used a few of his ideas and came up with some of our own to try. We were blown away not only by the difference they made, but because they made us feel as if we could make even bigger modifications. Success breeds success and getting a small win makes you more confident that you can crush a larger goal.
In this bonus mini-episode, we’ll fill you in on what worked for us, but more importantly help you figure out what is customizable to you. We are all wired differently and have different needs and demands in our lives. We hope you’ll click play to spend a small amount of time with us for a potentially big impact in your life!

Listen to the episode we talked bout, "Up Your Energy at Any Age with Health & Lifestyle Consultant, Craig Bruce HERE
Do you ever watch children race around without ever tiring and think, “I wish I had that kind of energy!” Sure, that sort of stamina may be out of reach (and honestly not really needed for most grownups), but it is possible to “up your game” to meet the mental and physical challenges of everything you juggle. In fact, re-igniting energy and helping with stress and burnout is what our guest, Craig Bruce specializes in. The former executive who tells us his bad habits led him on a downward health and burnout spiral, not only turned it around for himself, but became a health and lifestyle consultant and founded Evolve Health & Lifestyle. Their pillars are “mindset, nourish, restore and move.”
What he shares are tips and methods that have transformed his life and those he's coached. They are science-based habits to help us bounce back from the fatigue and burnout that many of us experience. He tells us that “small hinges open big doors”, and the small changes he recommends can indeed have a huge impact. Also in Craig's mantra is "progress not perfection" and this makes it much easier to implement and SO much less intimidating. We invite you to listen in and try one, two, ... or all of his tips to claim balance over burnout and hopefully increase your energy and mental clarity whatever your age or stage of life.

Whether prayer is a daily practice, a sometimes thing or an emergency outlet, most of us have called out to the Almighty. In our last episode “God, Please Speak to Me,” we explored whether He communicates back; and if He does, how it could happen. Our guest, Kelli Shelton from Seek Well Ministries, really opened our eyes (and ears) and the episode is becoming one of our most listened-to. In this short bonus episode, we reflect on what we learned from it and explore ways we believe God has directed us (ways that we may not have realized until we looked back).
There are so many methods that God uses to communicate. It is primarily through His Word, but He also uses other powerful ways to guide our mind and hearts. You probably shouldn’t expect and audible booming voice to snap you to attention. We have found that God’s ways are gentle, loving, scriptural and are often customized specifically to each person.
We pray that the next few minutes will bring new meaning to your prayer life.

When you pray, you open the door to communicating with God. Whether out loud or silently, with others or by yourself; you can let Him know what’s on your mind and in your heart. But do you listen for Him to speak back to you? Is it even possible, and if so, how does that happen? We invited a wonderful guest, Kelli Shelton from “Seek Well” Ministries to share her knowledge about how we can experience God’s divine guidance in our lives.
Kelli and her husband Tim co-founded “Seek Well” which she calls “a movement to teach people to slow down the pace of life so we can hear from God and refresh our hearts.” Their book, blogs, podcasts and immersive experiences have helped to transform many lives. In our last episode How Slowing Down Speeds Up Success (and Happiness!), we discovered that being intentional about getting rest and down time had many benefits, including being better able to receive divine direction. In this episode, we take it a step further to really dig into that possibility.

We live in a society that glorifies “the grind.” We’re proud of our hustle and hard work to make things happen. Setting goals and going after them is a good thing, the trick is to pace yourself; and to take time to "stop and smell the roses" on the way. We know that constantly pushing ourselves and rushing around can lead to burnout both physically and mentally, but many of us continue at a breakneck pace because we think it’s necessary to achieve our goals and dreams. The reality is, adopting a slower more deliberate pace can deliver better results and enhance our quality of life. In this episode, we’ll look at both the benefits of taking time to pause and rest…and ways to realistically do it.

We can think of “time for what counts” in a couple of ways. Making sure we check the most pressing things off our to-do list, or getting our business taken care of so we can focus on the things in life that matter to us most: like family, friends, faith or causes we support. In this bonus mini episode, we talk about both as we get advice from to two very accomplished professionals who juggle all these things and are the kind of people who you might want to ask, “how in the world do they get everything done?”.
In the last episode, we talked with Gail Perry-Mason and Mark S. Lee about the benefits of diversity, especially in the workplace. In this bonus episode, they gave us some tips for how to beat the clock to master the 24 hours we are all given in a day. We loved the clever things they did to not only make sure they HAD time for their priorities, but that they MADE THE MOST OF IT. We hope the short time you spend listening to this podcast will be multiplied back manyfold by what you learn.

Imagine yourself in a world of open-armed opportunities for all. It’s what we all say we want. However, there still exist many shallow, external factors that people consciously or unconsciously use to exclude others. Why do humans do this? Why not take the strengths and perspectives of people of various ages, races, genders, and backgrounds and use their viewpoints to enhance our communities, organizations, businesses, and our lives? Sometimes we just need a little help learning how to do this, and this episode shows us how and why we can effectively make positive changes.
We invited two guests who have advanced the DEI: diversity, equity, and inclusion movement. They are successful professionals in the Detroit, Michigan area who have much to say about the challenges they’ve witnessed and faced themselves. Gail Perry-Mason is a financial advisor and executive, an author and philanthropist. She founded of Money Matters for Youth, which helps kids with financial awareness and literacy. Mark S. Lee is President & CEO, The LEE Group, a strategic marketing consulting firm. He's also an educator at three different universities and a dynamic radio host. Both have stories that will enlighten, challenge, inspire and instruct.

Finding someplace we’ve never been is a fairly low-stress thing these days using navigation systems. You just put in the address and off you go. It wasn’t always like that. Back in the day with MapQuest or even paper maps, the routes didn’t automatically just re-calculate and course-correct us if we took a wrong turn.
The road of our lives is also filled with wrong turns, or maybe a better way to phrase that would be unexpected turns. These detours might shake things up for just a season, but often they set us on a different path for a lifetime. In our last episode we featured two wonderful women we call the “Hope Ladies” who wrote a book called Destination Hope: A Travel Companion When Life Falls Apart.
In this week’s bonus episode, we bring you a part of our chat we didn’t include in the original. April and Marilyn sum up their best advice for those going through life’s interruptions with hope and faith. We pray you’ll find it an inspiring and enlightening few minutes.

The answer to “what to do when you’re hurting” is not a simple one, and it can be very different for people. However, there are guideposts that can help in many cases. In this bonus episode, we reflect on what we learned and open up about what got us through some very rough circumstances in our own lives. These few minutes are meant to help you with healing and to reflect on how you may be able help in the healing of others. We hope it will boost your faith and bring you comfort.

Who doesn’t love a good celebration? Celebrating and enjoying traditions and taking time to honor those who have paved the way for us is part of the fabric of America. And Black History is a prominent, distinct, and very valuable piece of that fabric.
We decided to focus in on the significance and beautiful benefits of celebrating the heritage, culture, history, and contributions of Black Americans in a way that doesn’t feel like a high school history lesson. We have chosen to take you to a place where you can look around and see things from a different perspective, no matter what race or ethnicity you belong to. We made it our goal to help everyone imagine new ways to celebrate Black History Month, ways that seek out the beauty of a culture and the victories won while being mindful of the many sacrifices made over the span of centuries.
Here's the thing, we truly don’t know what we don’t know. So let’s change that: Imagine yourself taking the opportunity to learn and grow more during this and every Black History Month.

It seems like we are always bombarded with messages about how we should live a healthier life, but it really kicks up every January. That’s all good, but it can be overwhelming... especially because some of the advice or tips contradict other things we hear. When it comes down to it, a big part of growing in our faith is learning more and more to trust God and His timing. Part of the process is sometimes having to go through things that are (to say the least) challenging and uncomfortable. It helps to hear stories and from others who have walked a difficult path and have turned their tests into testimonies. In this episode, we feature five women we talked with over the past year. You’ll hear stories of enduring through trials, learning total surrender, the power of forgiveness and even the miraculous. If you’re ready for a little “faith-lift”, we invite you to click play, we think you will be truly blessed.

Mental Health can be a weighty and serious issue, but that doesn’t me we can’t have more casual or even fun conversations about it. In this episode, we hear from some of the mental health professionals we’ve talked to on the podcast. Each one drops nuggets of information and practical advice on topics like experiencing anxiety, feeling depressed, being affected by negative self-talk, taking control of our thoughts and suffering from loneliness. Some of our chats are serious and some more light-hearted, but we hope they all communicate empathy and hope. We designed this episode so you could get a quick boost for yourself or equip you for understanding and helping a loved one.
Although nothing replaces consulting a mental health professional on your own, we hope this gives you some guidance.
Here are the episodes we reference:
1) Psychotherapist Blaine Lawson on “Saying No to Negative Self Talk”
2) Dr. Jennifer Goble on “Controlling Your Thoughts When You Can’t Control Anything Else”
3) Counselor Kelli Center on “Staying Centered in Times of Crisis”
4) Psychotherapist Blaine Lawson on “How to Cope in a World of Constant Change”
5) Counselor Matt Lawson on “Leaving Loneliness Behind”

These days life coaches are becoming more and more popular. We love talking to them so we can pass along ways to make us better, happier humans. So, let's dig in to help motivate us in areas we might need to work on, but do it without all the judgement. In this episode we highlight lessons learned from four coaches we talked to in previous episodes. We’ll get eleven keys to self-care (Kerry Rasenberger), how to break a bad habit by "deconditioning desire" (Leslie Hoerner), overcoming fears – especially public speaking (Grace Brown) and controlling our reactions to negative situations (Sheila Sutherland). Here’s hoping the next few minutes can bring some positive and lasting life changes.

While everyone is “decking the halls with boughs of holly”, what if this year it doesn’t feel like the season to be jolly? What if grief, depression, loneliness, or something else makes this season especially difficult? We talked to a professional to get some tips especially designed to help with these issues during the holiday season. We hope what Matt Lawson of Chicago Compass Counseling has to say will help - whether it’s something unique to this year or if the Christmas season is just triggering in general. In this bonus mini episode, we share portions on our chat last year with Matt Lawson as well as some of our own struggles.
Most of us will experience the holiday blues to one degree or another during our lifetime, for some it happens every year. There are a variety of reasons for it: being away from family, grieving the loss of a loved one or ending a relationship are some of them. For others the holidays can trigger anxiety or sadness because of something that happened in the past. Some of us feel we may crumble under the perceived pressure to make the holidays perfect for friends or family. Whatever the case, it can feel worse when everyone else seems joyful.
Take a few minutes to listen to what Matt has to say. Even if you don’t struggle with holiday blues yourself, it’s good to be aware of those who do. Let’s help them feel seen and heard. More importantly, let’s be there to support each other.

There’s a wonderful quote that says “gratitude turns what we have into enough.” It’s a simple concept but one that’s worth repeating: if we focus on the things that we DO have instead of what we feel we lack we realize we are truly blessed. But how can we have NEXT LEVEL gratitude? What does that even mean?
We’re releasing this episode just before Thanksgiving, the time when we many of us will go around the table and say what we’re grateful for. Some of us are better at counting our blessings than others. And to be sure, there are times in our lives that make doing that easier while other times leave us more bitter than thankful. In this episode on next level gratitude, we re-visit portions of one of our very first episodes from 2019 where we talk about being grateful during those darker times and how to go beyond just saying what we’re grateful for and living it out.
During this season of thankfulness, it’s extra important to be intentional about thinking about what and who we are grateful for. Remembering how God has blessed us, writing it down and sharing it with others are some wonderful ways to do that. As we talk about in this episode, this can help carry us through those times when we are reaching for something to be grateful for but can’t find it.
Let’s make an attitude or gratitude more than a bumper sticker or a positive quote on Instagram… and live it in our daily lives. We look at practical ways to not only feel it ourselves but to extend it to others. Click play to get your gratitude game going.

It’s no secret that prices have gone through the roof lately. The cost of everything from filling up your gas tank to filling up your shopping cart has spiked. From cat food to cars and hamburgers to houses, we are feeling a big pain in the wallet. Not to mention, sometimes we just consider ourselves lucky to even FIND what we set out to purchase. Words that most folks don’t hear much outside of an economics class like “supply chain” and “inflation” are now common in everyday language. That’s just where we are in holiday season 2021.
Enter financial coach and author, Kembala Evans. In last week’s chat with her on Don't Make These Money Mistakes, we got some great insight into personal finance and a ton of easy-to-implement tips. In this bonus mini-episode, we feature an additional part of our discussion with Kembala on the challenges presented by this year’s unique economic environment. Along with detailing some ideas to help us handle our money, we take a step back and look at what is truly important to keep in mind during the holiday season and beyond.

When people in our lives are going through grief or adversity, our hearts break for them. We want to help them, encourage them, let them know we are there for them. As we recorded this episode, Lanee was in the midst of what she called THE toughest season of her life. She gives us advice on what she feels was helpful, not helpful, or even hurtful. Keeping in mind that people are not the same, have different needs and respond in various ways, we take an honest look designed to assist those standing beside people who are going through times of trial and tragedy. Inspired by our previous episode, “Finding Joy on the Good and Bad Days” with author and singer Lee Cruz, we also explore the role of faith as we walk through adversity ourselves and with those around us.

Would you rather have happiness or joy? Once you listen to this episode, you are sure to have a very clear choice. So many of us are dealing with new situations, uncertainties, insecurities, and difficult times that we can’t control. We might feel like we can’t hold onto happiness or joy. But what if we took a different approach so that we could keep ourselves centered, faithful, and joyful on the good and the bad days?
Singer and author Lee Cruz uses the Instagram account @sheisabutterfly to encourage others to look to God for help in very real and everyday ways. She shares her tough life experiences and proves that she has learned to trust God enough to live a life of joy despite it all. And although she’s not perfect, she helped us recognize that in many cases, “the beauty is in the imperfections.”
Butterflies flutter around in a way that brings joy and beauty. But we all know that a butterfly started off as a crawling caterpillar, transitioned to an isolated and confined cocoon, and eventually transformed into a beautiful butterfly. We hope that this episode helps you understand what phase of life you’re in, lean on God to be your source of joy, and embrace the bold, beautiful butterfly within!

When a crisis hits or heartbreak happens, it’s certainly no laughing matter. However, at some point in our coping process, humor may have a place. Last week’s guest on the episode “Knocking Down Life’s Obstacles”, Lisa Jesswein talked about how learning to laugh at things helped her survive and even thrive during some pretty extreme adversity. In this bonus episode, we’ll hear a little more on that from Lisa and talk about how it’s helped us also. Through all of it, we hope to encourage and equip you to use humor to help where it's appropriate as well.

Life is full of obstacles and adversity. These unwelcome events and circumstances can vary from being slightly annoying to absolutely devastating. Our guest, Lisa Jesswein has dealt with A LOT of adversity, most of which would fall into the latter category. It started early for her: from serious medical issues as a child to a near death experience as a teenager, to a health scare that threatened her career just as it was taking off as an adult. She not only triumphed her way over each one, but she’s remained positive and used what she’s been through to inspire others!
Lisa is a motivational speaker, radio personality, actress and owner of Intuitive You. Her health issues began early with weekly hospital visits for blood draws starting at 7, dialysis starting at 12, two kidney transplants, two hip replacements, cancer, hepatitis C…and that’s just a partial list! You would never guess ANY of this if you met Lisa whose upbeat attitude is as inspiring as it is contagious.
In this episode you’ll hear not only about the physical challenges, but the emotional rollercoaster she’s been on and how each experience shaped who she is now. You’ll hear details of the near-death experience that has influenced not only how she sees the world but how she functions in it. Finally, she shares how her intuition has been keenly developed through this process and why she believes all of us possess the ability to be divinely guided.

When you get together with a friend you haven’t seen in a while, it’s fun to reminisce about the good old days! It can also be therapeutic talking about the not-so-good old days. It’s not so different when you write in a journal and then look back on it days, weeks, years and even decades later! In this bonus episode, we reflect on last week’s chat with Tareka Wheeler of Professional DNA, Change Your Life By Changing The Way You See Yourself. In that episode, we discovered the tremendous power of journaling; and how we can use the past to help us in the present AND plan for the future. If you are a non-journaler like Sandy, you may finally decide to take the leap. If so, we have some easy tips. If you already journal, you’ll benefit from some unique ways to use it in your life. And, no matter what, we think you’ll laugh along and learn some powerful lessons as Lanee takes a trip to her middle-school diaries. We hope these lessons lead to some profound revelations to help you with your own self-discovery.

How cool would it be to meet your future self? For some of us, it sounds like a great idea, but for others, it feels intimidating because it means changing who we are. This week’s episode is going to challenge you to change how you see yourself, and our guest, Tareka Wheeler, Career and Mindset Strategist of Professional DNA shares a technique that will change the game in a simple, honest, and personalized way.
If you’re ready to discover the next version of yourself, consider this question: What have you been telling yourself about yourself? Tareka wants to steer us forward, and she takes us on a journey that begins with the fundamental thought that you already have what you need inside of you. Focusing in on your strengths while asking some unique Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How questions will literally open doors to self-discovery, fulfillment, and a definite path to that future self the world is destined to meet. There’s a powerful quote that says, “the greatest challenge in life is discovering who you are. The second greatest is being happy with what you find.” We believe this episode leads to being happy with who we find.

Growing up, having confidence in our abilities was the big goal that led to success. But what happens to those of us who struggle with low levels of self-confidence? We might have to try a different route…looking up! We can turn things around by looking to God—exchanging confidence with “Godfidence.” That’s a term that our enlightening guest, Author/Teacher/Speaker, Erica Wiggenhorn, shared with us on this powerful episode. In fact, it's something we ALL need!
Erica Wiggenhorn shows us that our biggest fears, our worst mistakes, and our own self-doubt don’t have to hold us back any longer. We don’t have to be perfect or even competent in every area because God has a way of taking ill-equipped people and assigning them to get things done that will definitely require His help, strength, wisdom, and competence.
Erica is the Founder of Every Life Ministries, and she has released a new book, Letting God Be Enough: Why Striving Keeps You Stuck and How Surrender Sets You Free. Introspection is a great tool, so we used tips from the book to take a good look at ourselves and our situations, and we encourage you to listen in and lean in to determine what things you need to wholeheartedly surrender to God.

Is there a dream or goal you would pursue if you knew you couldn’t fail? Many of us shove things off to the side because we don’t have the time, energy, or bandwidth to go after them. However, as technology and working from home has changed the way we do things, and the pandemic has re-ordered priorities, it may be worth re-considering. Here’s a story of someone who did just that! We think you’ll be inspired by this interview with a best-selling author who once thought trading in the 9-5 grind for writing novels was just a pipedream!
We first talked to Bianca Sloane in 2019. She told us about how one day she decided to dust off some old manuscripts that she’d written, enroll in a writing class, learn about the art of publishing, and simply believe in herself. Fast forward years later, she now has a collection of sizzling, successful, suspense novels and is herself a resource for aspiring writers!
Whether it’s a new career, a side hustle or your retirement vision, the steps Bianca took will inspire you and give you ideas for your journey!

How do people hear from God? There are many opinions and stories. For most, it’s not through an audible voice, but it can be just as clear to the hearer. In this bonus episode, we reflect on two episodes we had recently on faith: When You’re Waiting on God with Lorie Barnwell and Releasing Shame and Perfectionism: Writer Candice Miller Shares her Faith Journey.
In both episodes, the power of prayer and the fact that it was not a one-way conversation played a huge part in some major breakthroughs and divine revelations for our guests. In this bonus mini-episode, we reflect upon and open up about ways we believe we have heard from God personally and explore the ways it may happen.

No one likes to wait. And the bigger the “something” we’re waiting for to happen, the harder it gets. Trusting God means trusting His timing which is often easier said than done. Every once in a while, a story comes along that helps us remember that miracles do happen, and that God’s timing IS always perfect. We hope you enjoy the story of our guest Lorie Barnwell. Her testimony is raw and emotional. It's full of ups and downs and has the twists and turns of a binge-worthy Netflix series. Its heartbreak is exceeded only by its blessings - on both a natural and spiritual level. Most notably, it's topped off by a profound miracle that has left medical professionals scratching their heads!

Are you tired of letting fear stop you? While appropriate in some situations, at times our fears can seem to paralyze from doing things we want to do for ourselves or others. It can leave us short of our goals and dreams. If you can’t stop the fear, sometimes you have to just push past it. That can be easier said than done. In this bonus episode, we reflect on what we learned from our expert guest, Grace Brown in episode 11 called “Moving From Fears to Fierce”. We applied some of her tips and tactics to our own fears. On paper, fear is described as “alarm or apprehension.” In and of itself, fear isn’t a bad thing; in fact, we have what’s called a fight-flight-freeze response that is a natural reaction to danger. With some things, though, this “danger” is more in our own minds, and fear can put a hard stop to our dreams and goals. Getting past them isn’t easy, so we called on an expert. Grace Brown has some marvelous methods to conquer our fears and move us from “fears to fierce”.
Grace is a Momentum Mindset Coach and is affectionately known as ‘Coach G'. She’s here to help us get “unstuck in life, love or career, to create forward positive momentum to reach our fullest potential”! Grace knows a thing or two about overcoming not just fears, but incredibly harsh life circumstances. Her bio says, “I scrambled my way out of holes like homelessness and toxic relationships with job hopping and heartbreak.” You’ll want to check out all of her inspiring story. Now on the other side of so many struggles, she’s here to help lift us up.
Fears can affect our jobs, relationships, family life and happiness in general. In this episode we focus on how to deal with both deep and day to day fears in a practical way.

There’s probably no better way to learn valuable life lessons than looking to our elders. As a follow-up to our previous episode entitled Second Chances at Life and Love , we had a chance to reflect on what we learned, actions we’re taking and ideas for you. Interestingly, it wasn’t just about what she did in her youth, but what she did in her later years that gave us some potentially life-changing lessons. When you hear the quote “It’s never too late to be what you might have been,” does it strike a chord in you? Does it make you ponder dreams deferred by life’s realities? Do you wonder if those dreams have passed their expiration dates? Well, to quote our guest Jeanne Hussin, “you’re not too old and it’s never too late.” In fact, after you hear her story, you too may be saying “good things are right around the corner!” And not simply good things -- but great things, big dreams and maybe even a new love or a new spark being lit in your current relationship.
Jeanne Corvese Hussin is a marketing exec, mom, blogger and author of the new book “I See Old People”. At 60, she says writing a book is a prize she has eyed for 25 years, but it was only recently that she had a story to tell. The inspiration came from her visits to a memory care facility for seniors and the wonderful lessons learned there. Her passion to serve seniors actually originated when she saw how callously her own mother had been treated by some of the staff at another facility years ago. She knew then that she wanted to crusade for kindness. Kindness, not just for senior citizens, but for everyone – especially those who felt unseen. Her website and blog, KindConversations.com is an extension of this. “We all need to feel like we matter, no matter what age, no matter who we are” is emblazoned on the homepage.
Another thing we learned from Jeanne is that “kindness is sexy.” Part of her inspiring story is finding love later in life. It was not who she expected or when she expected to find him, but she did get her “prince” and her fairytale wedding. Her husband, she says, not only carries this all-important kindness trait, but he’s the type who guy her mother always said she should look for, one who puts her on a pedestal.
So many times, in movies, books and news stories, we get inspired by people whose dreams have come true or have found peace and happiness. Sometimes these real or fictional characters persevere though difficult circumstances to finally reach their destiny. What can make it even sweeter, though, is when the person is getting a do-over. What is it about second (or third or fourth) chances that is so moving? We think this is as good as any do-over story you’ll see, hear or read about. Thank you, Jeanne, for telling us about your second chances at both life and love. Thank you for your honesty, vulnerability, and for your amazing advice. Thank you for being a wonderful advocate for kindness in our world, especially for our older population.
We invite everyone to listen in as Jeanne tells us about going from an unemployed single mom to living her dream in so many ways. We think her journey will inspire you whether you’ve still got unfulfilled ambitions or just love a great story. Are you tired of striving to be enough? In this world, we talk a lot about the importance of being seen, having purpose, and feeling like we’re enough. It’s not easy living up to idealized versions of who we think we need to be, and that can lead to perfectionism and even shame. This episode is dedicated to anyone who has ever felt like they’re the only one. The only one feeling the intense pressure of perfectionism. The only one feeling the pain of guilt and shame. The only one who is not measuring up, who’s not enough. This episode promises you that you are not the only one, you are not alone, and there are ways to turn things around in a healthy, supportive, loving way.

Writer and motivational speaker, Candice Miller is our very relatable guest who is open and honest about her personal journey to peace. It’s a journey where serious mental health challenges played a part as did her involvement in a 12-Step program. She shows us how to integrate mental and spiritual health practices in order to heal and thrive. She shares how we can walk towards God and even run to God with all of our problems and our imperfections. We learn how important it is to finally lay down whatever past mistakes we have before God (no matter how big or how bad) so that we can finally love and accept the whole, complete self that we are now.
Candice does an amazing job of reminding us we are worthy and enough! Listen in to an episode that will shine healing love, light, and hope in some of those dark areas that we all deal with.

Trouble falling asleep or getting back to sleep after waking in the middle of the night is something most people deal with at some point in their lives. Whether it’s a minor annoyance or an every-night issue for you, we think you’ll find this short episode helpful. It was inspired by our guest, sleep expert and therapist Katelyn Anderson on the podcast How to Finally Get a Good Night’s Sleep. In it, she talked about the intersection between mental health and sleep and dished out a ton of helpful advice. An important caveat that many of us miss with sleeping tips (like anything else) is that if it’s difficult to fit into our lifestyle, the chance of success decreases. In this mini-episode, we tell you what happened when we tried out some of the tactics she gave us and added some of our own. We hope that you get some ideas and inspiration that you can customize for yourself. Take a few minutes to listen now, and it just may help to you to sleep better tonight!

In life there are times famous for sleep deprivation: the arrival of a baby, the all-nighters studying in school, the tossing and turning before a big life event, the crazy schedule that makes getting enough sleep a pipedream. What happens, though, when not getting the rest we need becomes a persistent problem? We called on sleep expert Katelyn Anderson to help us finally get a good night’s sleep (hopefully lots of them!) If you or someone you love could benefit from better sleep or you just want to make sure you’re doing all you can to promote the proper rest your body needs, this episode is for you!
Katelyn is a therapist, Founder/CEO of Equip Sleeping Company, and creator of Cozy Case. She says her mission is to highlight the intersection between sleep and mental health. Indeed, a good night’s sleep can do wonders for our state of mind. Conversely not getting our rest can lead to moodiness, anxiety, depression, and other issues. It can also affect our memory and ability to concentrate. Then there are physical problems which can range from high blood pressure, weight gain, weakened immunity and even heart disease.
It’s true that sometimes life circumstances prevent proper sleep and you just have to do the best you can, but if you are like millions of people who are simply having trouble falling or staying asleep on a regular basis, this episode is full of honesty and answers.
Katelyn’s official mission is “evidenced-based, solution-focused, cognitive and behavioral strategies to support individuals in creating the ideal conditions for falling asleep and staying asleep.” So, basically it’s what can you do that can actually give you results. She takes us through a sleep hygiene checklist that includes our surroundings, what we should or shouldn’t be consuming at night, how to get in a proper state of mind to rest and so much more.
We always hear how important to get 7 or 8 hours of continuous sleep a night, but Katelyn tells us why for some people “fragmented sleep” is OK. We also dive into the question of napping. Should you be doing it and how long? Also, what do you do if your partner has different sleeping habits, snore or other issues? Spoiler alert, this affects all three of us and we’ll look at strategies that help keep everyone happy (and sleeping soundly!). We'll also talk about affirmations and things you can do to stop a racing mind from keeping you from sleeping. And, the physical things like bedding that can affect rest, this includes the new Cozy Case!

Part of setting healthy boundaries involves those you set with yourself. When we interviewed coach Leslie Hoerner in our last podcast titled Finding Balance Through Boundaries, one of the topics that came up was saying no to ourselves. It had a big personal impact on us both because we had typically thought setting boundaries was all about pointing outward. While setting boundaries definitely includes (and maybe even emphasizes) our relationships and how may need to set limits with others, it’s also about those “no’s” we have to say to ourselves. Of course doing that is not usually easy; but Leslie gave us some sound strategies to help. This episode is what happened when we followed Leslie’s tips. Hopefully, it helps you too!

Balance is a tricky thing to achieve because it looks different for each person. However, there’s one thing that forges balance for everyone, and that’s a set of well-defined boundaries. If you take a look at your cellphone “Settings,” you’ll see that there’s an array of choices that range from “Downtime,” “App Limits,” “Content & Privacy Restrictions,” and “Always Allowed.” This week’s episode shows us how to incorporate our own set of limits and allowances in order to strike a perfect balance.
Who better to help us on our journey than our guest from Better Than Balanced, Leslie Hoerner, Self-Love Empowerment Coach. She took time to teach us how to weigh an important asset we own: the power to say yes and no in our home life, work life, community life, and even to ourselves. Opening the doors to certain activities, people, places, and opportunities while closing the doors to others is the master key to a life of balance. We’re all different, and it’s time to be honest with ourselves and give ourselves permission to be who we are and put an end to who we are not. If you’ve been burning the candle at both ends or struggling because you’re too afraid to try a new thing, then this episode is dedicated to you.
Leslie has actionable steps to help minimize the drama associated with saying no when we need to, even when it’s a no to ourselves. Listen in as we learn to activate our individual balance and boundaries meter. For more inspiration, go to ImagineYourselfPodcast.com

Is judging in and of itself a bad thing? Is there a difference between judging and being judgmental? Does one automatically lead to the other? What about the judgmental tape that rolls in our heads?
We are here to shine the light on our own judgmental thinking. Judgmental words, actions and attitudes are easy to spot in the world around us. They are in our house, neighborhood and online. However, the “Judgy McJudger” within ourselves can be sneakier and harder to pinpoint. In fact, much of if the judging we do may be unconscious.
We get it. There's a time and a place for judging. We also are not saying that there is no right and wrong. But there’s a fine line between that and stepping into the role of “I, Judgy McJudger, am here to judge you!”
This is a heavy topic, and we don’t have the game mastered yet, but we promise complete transparency. You’ll hear Lanee’s story of how her judgmental attitude ruined some of her relationships in college and Sandy’s attempt to escape mom-judgement that led to a prayer that produced scary but ultimately life-changing results. Plus we have strategies and tips on how to do a better job of enjoying life, others, and ourselves while ditching most of the negative, judgy thoughts and behaviors.
It’s not like we’re judging you, but you really ought to listen to our podcastFor more inspiration, go to ImagineYourselfPodcast.com

Raise your hand if you want to have an “ageless” body! What if we told you the key to an ageless body is an ageless mindset?
Here’s the skinny: sometimes, we get overwhelmed with messages that bombard us about dieting and fasting and planks and crunches and Stairmasters and Anti-Aging Serums. Some days we would rather roll over and give in to excuses vs. exercise and Nutter Butters vs. Nutrition.
This is when we all need someone like Nate Wilkins, Founder of Ageless Workout, to step in and help us out! Even the Ageless Workout’s vision statement encourages everyone to stay “centered on taking back and owning their lives at the core level of playing, having fun, learning, loving, connecting and living a better lifestyle through health, fitness and healing.”
This episode taught us so much about how to stay fit and fabulous while living a life full of vibrant vitality!
Click and listen as the guru, Nate Wilkins, teaches us all about the choices, changes, and commitments we’ll need to make in order to get our minds and bodies in tip top shape, because we’ve still got a long life to live with this ageless body!

What areas of your life need a tweak, a pivot, a change? How flexible are you willing to be to reach a place of peace? What if innovation is the key to success? Maybe it’s time to play a new tape in your brain. Time to sing a new song. Time to try new things. Go at your own pace, and you might actually like the new developments in your life, love, career, health, faith, and finances.
Here’s a simple analogy. If you want to get your truck down the highway, higher gears are required for higher speeds so you don’t blow your engine! The same thing, if you want to make it all the way down the highway of life, a next-level gear is required to live a next-level life so you don’t blow your engine!
Award-winning author, Octavia Butler, said it best, “All that you touch, you change. All that you change changes you. The only lasting truth is change.”
Welcome to Season 3 at Imagine Yourself Podcast! Make sure to subscribe so that you don’t miss new episodes. Hope you like our new logo, new topics, and new look as we decided to practice what we preach when it comes to the topic of change.

Love is complicated. But it is also simple. That is, there are some basic things that we all can do to help a relationship blossom. We’re exploring five ingredients that should be in every romance recipe, and we’re throwing in some secret sauce you may not have tried.
You’ve probably heard that good communication is king, but did you know that sometimes what you don’t say is just as important as what you do say. For example, is it always necessary to give your partner your (unsolicited) opinion on everything he or she does, says, wears, etc.?
Is there something even MORE important than effective and empathetic communication? Could it be that respect is what your significant other may be craving most?
They say teamwork makes the dream work, but are you unknowingly sabotaging your spouse?
You’ve probably heard (and maybe used) the expression “It’s not you, it’s me”. We'll talk about how it's not just for breakups (like in the Seinfeld episode).
In this episode, we’ll share personal successes and failures in our relationships and look at some helpful advice from experts. Many of the things that we’re adding to this recipe of romance won’t be the things you would ever expect. We’ll hit on five major points, be we also dig even deeper and explore some crucial areas that are often overlooked.
We dedicate this episode to anyone who is looking for love or looking to hold on to their love. Listen in, and elevate your romance game!More inspiration at imagineyourselfpodcast.comJoin the conversation on our FACEBOOK, TWITTER or INSTAGRAM pages
One of the most important relationships you’ll ever have is the relationship you have with yourself. This episode offers a challenge to anyone who is looking for more of all the right things. What if you start to fully embrace self-love and find yourself in more loving, balanced, meaningful relationships overall? What if being your own best friend is what ultimately leads to healthy, vibrant, and fun friendships with others? What if being kind and understanding to an imperfect you helps to navigate this imperfect world with more confidence and composure?
We needed help finding concrete ways to bring self-love into our lives, and our guest, Certified Life Coach Kerry Rasenberger, has truly delivered. She gives creative suggestions and breaks it all down so that we can begin to value the importance of self-love and self-appreciation without feeling selfish. She emphasizes “11 Steps of Self-Love” that are so creative and fulfilling—a must-try! We also learn that all great relationships require the same key factors: good communication, full respect, lots of patience, and a sense of gratitude. However, when showering ourselves with love, we can add even more to the mix. The essential gifts we can give ourselves are the gifts of: self-acceptance, self-compassion, self-validation, self-trust, self-care, and genuine forgiveness.
Listen in to discover how to administer a much-needed dose of love to yourself. You’ll also hear about a special gift that Life Coach Kerry is offering to all listeners. Imagine Yourself loves to find new ways to build beautiful relationships, and this time, it’s all about you!

What happens when the things you tell yourself start to turn from negative to positive, from discouraging to encouraging, from damaging to life-affirming? Everything changes! Words matter and we decided to evaluate what kinds of things we’ve been saying to ourselves and how it’s affecting our lives. Our guest, Psychotherapist Blaine Lawson, uses a few simple mindfulness exercises to introduce us to a whole new world of language that serves to build us up. By the end of the episode, she has us all neutralizing negative thoughts, focusing more on what we do well, and imagining all the things that could go right in life!
For those of us who get into a pattern of overthinking situations, concentrating on the worst-case scenarios, using the words “always” or “never” to describe ourselves in negative ways, get ready for some significant changes. We promise that we won’t tell you to “get over it” or “just be positive.” We won’t even tell you to stop thinking negative thoughts. What we will learn and share are practical, logical, loving ways to end the spiral of harmful inner dialogue. This episode offers effective, efficient ways to be honest and open with ourselves while stepping back and objectively assessing what’s really going on. Robert T. Kiyosaki said it best, “it’s not what we say out loud that really determines our lives. It’s what we whisper to ourselves that has the most power.”
Don’t miss this opportunity to get some free advice from an inviting, insightful professional who gets to the root cause of the negative self-talk. Click and listen and have your mind blown—in a positive way!

Ah, the new year. Every January seems to be the perfect time to focus on a fresh start. It’s a time to take a look at bad habits we’d like to break and good habits we’d like to develop. Many of us make (and a few of us keep) New Year’s resolutions. This New Year hits different. As we usher in 2021, it seems to be less “New Year, New Me” thing and more “New Year, New Circumstances”.
Still, there may be room for working on ourselves. For a lot of us, the stress and uncertainty of 2020 left us with some habits we’d like to break. For others, we know more than ever what it’s like to dig deep, grit our teeth, and accomplish the seemingly impossible.
Is there a difference between where you are now and where you’d like to see yourself? You might already know what steps you need to take to get there. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of making a plan and sticking to it. Other times, there’s a little more to it. Either way, we’re here to help with an episode packed full of tips to help you get to your finish line.
