In a first of its kind interview, Jenny interviews her mom to find out how she healed from a traumatic brain injury more than 40 years ago when Jeanette Anchondo was pregnant with Jenny. In a logging accident when she was three months pregnant, Jeanette suffered a fractured skull, a broken shoulder, broken ribs, a ruptured spleen, nerve damage and, most impactful, a traumatic brain injury. She was told she'd never work again, never drive again, and that the prognosis for her Jenny wasn't great. She's proven a lot of people wrong over the years and in this episode, she details what kept her going and how she learned to read and write again, went back to work and went on to have two more successful pregnancies.
Raj and Anna Asava are the founders of HungerMitao, which is a grassroots volunteer movement to mobilize the Indian American community in support of their local food banks.

Fort Worth-based actor Jordan Walker Ross sits down to talk about how he learned to overcome his limp, cerebral palsy and severe scoliosis to land roles in 1883 and The Chosen.
That limp had a negative impact on his acting career for a long time – having casting directors and agents tell him to “lose the limp” and even being replaced from the project because it was too distracting.
It wasn’t until he was cast in The Chosen that he started to love his “limp” and the things that make him different. Some of his grit and determination come from watching his grandfather, Barry Corbin struggle to get roles early in his career.

North Texas Navy Seal Veteran, Stephen Holley is also the President and CEO of the nonprofit Carry The Load, which teaches Americans about the sacrifices made by members of the military, veterans, first responders and their families.
He grew up in Dallas and eventually went on to graduate from the United States Naval Academy in 2000. He went on to serve as a Navy Seal for five years and completed four deployments to Iraq and southeast Asia. Faye says what people have been doing wrong when it comes to poverty is that they assume we know what people need, instead of giving them cash to make the decisions themselves.

After a tank mine blew up below him in Al Anbar Province, Iraq in 2004, Jake suffered compound fractures in his leg and arm, multiple skin, ligament and bone losses, burns, partial loss of his left hand and arm, amputation below the knee, a traumatic brain injury and PTSD.
Today, he is the CEO of the One Tribe Foundation, which combats suicide by empowering veterans, first responders, medical frontline workers and their families through traditional and non-traditional therapies.

Our guest, Jaco Booyens became an advocate for fighting sex trafficking after it hit close to home. Booyens sister was a victim of trafficking and he’s made it his life’s mission to fight the global trafficking crisis.
Booyens is the director of the film 8 Days, which raises awareness about the sex trafficking industry. He’s also the CEO of After Eden Pictures and founder of SHAREtogether, a non-profit organization fighting against the global crisis of sex trafficking.
Homeless children or children who grow up in broken homes aren’t always the targets of trafficking, either. Booyens says “the softest target today in the United States of America is the child that’s at home, with two parents but the parents aren’t present.” Parents might be physically present, but Booyens challenges every parent to really know what their kids are doing on various social media platforms.

She grew up inside the Church of the First Born of the Lamb of God, a violent polygamist cult led by her father, Ervil LeBaron. She and her more than 50 siblings were constantly moved around the country from Texas to Colorado and even into Mexico, as the family tried to slip away from law enforcement. Dozens of murders were carried out around Anna, including against her own family members.

Susan Van Volkenberg got the call to her Texas home and realized her father was on Flight 77, which had crashed into the Pentagon on September 11th, 2001.
This led to a lengthy faith journey through grief and growth. She authored the book "Silent Resolve and the God Who Let me Down".

Our guest, Jaco Booyens became an advocate for fighting sex trafficking after it hit close to home. Booyens sister was a victim of trafficking and he’s made it his life’s mission to fight the global trafficking crisis.
Booyens is the director of the film 8 Days, which raises awareness about the sex trafficking industry. He’s also the CEO of After Eden Pictures and founder of SHAREtogether, a non-profit organization fighting against the global crisis of sex trafficking.
Homeless children or children who grow up in broken homes aren’t always the targets of trafficking, either. Booyens says “the softest target today in the United States of America is the child that’s at home, with two parents but the parents aren’t present.” Parents might be physically present, but Booyens challenges every parent to really know what their kids are doing on various social media platforms.

She grew up inside the Church of the First Born of the Lamb of God, a violent polygamist cult led by her father, Ervil LeBaron. She and her more than 50 siblings were constantly moved around the country from Texas to Colorado and even into Mexico, as the family tried to slip away from law enforcement. Dozens of murders were carried out around Anna, including against her own family members.
Few have experienced the types of things that Anna has, but her story of trauma and recovery can serve as a lesson to all of us that there’s always time to re-write your story.
