Today we spoke with one of our new dear friends, who was kind enough to share time with us today as our first guest in Panama. Andrea is from Bolzano, Italy, and lived there most of his life before embarking on a journey to this new country a few years ago.

He and his family braved the unforeseen change ahead and have found new strength and meaning in their lives. We appreciate making such a meaningful friendship with our families, and his wealth of knowledge goes deep into the physical, mental, existential, and beyond.

His more than 24 year career as an Osteopath led him to find even more ways to heal with a holistic approach as opposed to a compartmentalized one, and therefore created his own path to work with others.

Below are his links and also I am adding the new found ways I use to now learn from our many friends suggestions and information that is in many languages, and these tools help me just like Google Translate does all the time. Don't let a language online be a barrier from reading and listening to others around the globe.Just living here exposes us to what's happening in many countries by speaking directly with our friends, and helps us get a pulse on global actions happening that otherwise we would have no true idea how to form an opinion.

The book which was also made into a movie is, The Art of Racing in the Rain. A great story, and as a dog lover and go-kart driver, this one was a quick read for Diego.

He got to read about struggles over problems, big ones that took time to recover from. All of us will endure some hurdles both big and small, but by keeping our aim focused, we can come out of the other side.

We briefly touch on Arnold's book, which I'll probably come back to in future episodes once entire book is finished.

Happy Sunday, today Sofia and I have a short catch up as her first appearance from our new home. She has really taken up crocheting which has been so great to see. It requires focus and patience, and also creativity and homework. YouTube amazes with so many how to resources and fun tutorials, huge help with faster progress.

Short but sweet, I hope you can find time for your hobbies you enjoy also.

Today we have settled back into home, now being the dry season in Panamá. More wind which is definitely welcome, if this is our new winter I'm happy.

We dove a bit into the book Big History by David Christian, who has it as a Great Course HERE. Barely into the first lectures as we skimmed through was good enough to attempt at reaching at the gravity of our unimaginably short time frames here as humans in our present form, in our current ways of being societies. Seems so strange to know our entire ways of life for several generations will be looked at as yet another phase of existence, to one day be entirely different.

Take care and as always,

At last, we're back and can begin to share what living at an Expat is like so far. There is always more details, and we did record one with both kids that didn't make it, but here we are. Its been quite an experiential almost 4 months.

A book is in progress for the next one, but for now, we take some time so share what is current for us here in Panamá.

Another one to go along with episodes 79 and 105. Things change quickly and there is a mountain range of information, so staying focused with precision and learning before jumping to the next thing has been key. I'm eager to learn about another network besides the XRPL called the Casper Network, but will not dedicate time to it until my head is fully around all the new functionalities it has. A network built for speed and payments, with an automated market maker and decentralized exchange at the base layer is a very, very, powerful tool for what it was made for.

It has a clear operating use case that will grow in capacity and can handle growth far beyond what it does now, which is already astounding. We are all watching the backbone of the financial systems worldwide get a new bones. Most of us won't even notice we're using blockchain mechanisms, but we will.

I have listened to many conversations, forums, podcasts, etc of 30+ year banking veterans say this massive of a change comes once in a lifetime. Payments will be settled as fast as emails. And the big banks want to capture all the traffic like they do now, which is why they are fighting to crush everyone, bring all value back in-house, then re-release it with their white labeled packages.

Regardless of what I discuss, as it could all change in a few weeks, its all quite interesting and eye opening.

Embarking on the next chapter of life, by the time this podcast is available I'll be on a plane with our two dogs headed to Panama City, Panamá where I'll meet up with my family to live some life in Latin America as we have always wanted to do. I expect obstacles and hurdles, but also expect fun and new found freedom. Its been a very busy 8 months leading up to this day, and it already feels entirely worth it, as its challenged and tested our ability to focus and work together for what we value most......time.

Today we sat with Kalyani Sundaresan. She is a software architect and lead with strong full stack skills. But she is here with us because she was also Sofia's first official sewing teacher, and shared this skill passed down from a long family history, full of hand crafting skill sets that used to be more commonplace.

And her love of creating and finding her renewed passion for the art of design came alive only a few years ago, even having come from a home where clothes were created out of necessity. This is inspiring to see as she is far along in her technical career, but has gravitated to expressing herself through bespoke tailoring and will continue to expand her designs and creations.

Kalyani also shared some insight into what an arranged marriage is really like, and the differences between having a large support system for marriage and what she sees here in America not only in regards to marriage but to families and friendships alike. It was eye opening for me, and a great opportunity to learn about how those intricacies work.

She is so full of positive energy and enthusiasm, it was an honor to have her here and share time with the both of us.

Enjoy and Be Healthy Yall

Another week, another chance to experience life in whatever form you decide to aim at. This one, just catching what's going on, keeping it light.

BUT, again, huge thank you to some audio professionals for helping me work towards learning new gear and software. Slowly starting to get it, but I have much respect for all the audio engineers out there.

As I continue with some hereditary history and family tree stories, we were leading up to this conversation with my Dad to keep giving past context to our family history. This lets the kids know who came before them, and a chance to learn that each generation lives very differently and lives take some twists and turns.

And some people have bobcats for pets, or something like that, but hey, its Texas. The kids listen to him on their own, then my Dad and I get to spend some time just bouncing around as conversations do. He's a healthy 71 year old cancer survivor, and happy to have caught this one while he was here for Grandparent's Day at the kids' schools.

More reading from some of my Papa's stories, this one about his grandfather, Papa Patton. We'll read from his time in the army next.

Nice to share these short memoirs as he did intend them to be shared, and short vignettes from any life are cool to hear I think.

This will be beginning of a few podcasts where I read from my grandfather's letters of stories of himself, his grandparents, parents, and his grandparents. My Berendzen side of the family apparently have all on some level left traces of history from each generation for the next to read and connect with those that came before them. I look forward to hearing the kids' responses when I go through some together with them.

Joined by a baking enthusiast, all around hard worker and dog loving super woman, Victoria Padron today! This was officially Sofia's first podcast with a guest just for her, and I was so happy that the joyful and warm company with Victoria kept her chatting us up even to the point I had to cut her off (believe it or not haha)

We cover a lot subjects ranging from baking, to moving cities, learning through hard lessons and mistakes, astrophysics, animal science, planetary musings, questioning the origin of the universe, favorite colors, and as always with Sofia, some jokes naturally. BORING!! HAHA.

Thank you Victoria for sharing your day with us and look forward to seeing her soon.

An amazing and thoughtful conversation with Diego's previous 4th and 5th grade guide, Eduardo "Lalo" Martinez. I was honored to have him be a guide for Diego and also someone who is very encouraging of Sofia's baking which has given her much ownership of her own interests and skills.

Lalo is such an interesting and introspective person, and brings a seemingly bottomless well of knowledge and experience into any space he enters. I look forward to more conversations with him on different subject specifics in time. He has been involved in Montessori for almost 10 years and his passion for teaching only grows over time.

A father, Montessori guide, artist, actor, salsero, snowboarder, skateboarder, biker, hiker, reader, writer, healing arts trained and more.

Whoa...

Lots of info, saddle up. This is a follow up to Ep 79, and I go through the updates to the Ripple vs SEC court case that was started back in Dec 2020.

Its inception actually started back in 2016, and facts have been brought to light.

It is still ongoing, and I find it very interesting and it has taught me a massive amount about banking, digital assets, and what's happening in the world and how money and how we use it and move value is changing faster than we realize.

Welcome back! Year is cruising along. Today I sat with Sofia and talked about her latest passion, baking. Anyone at my office is well aware as I have had to offload, I mean share, the many treats she is creating. Dinners is what I'm pushing for, but who doesn't love cupcakes, cakes, buttercream, fondant, chocolate ganache, sprinkles and so on? Yeah, not the health food I envisioned but once her confidence hits level 19 Epic, other foods will be created. No fear of a kitchen is a strong skill and will be part of her life forever.

Back again, and much to cover.  We go over status of gokarting and the many details that encapsulate getting up to speed on them, as well as the evolution from an idea to where we are currently.  The focus and attention needed to compete I think helps with giving a big confidence boost needed during the transitional years of middle school too.

We chop it up and improv some which keeps this talk light and funny too, why not riff when we feel it?

Well, we finally aren't Covid ninjas anymore.  Whole house at least gets to endure it together, and glad we are getting through it ok.  Soon as the same weights I lift every other day felt 3 times heavier, I knew something was up.  I feel fortunate that didn't last long, but a reminder nonetheless how grateful I am to be in good health.

While home as a family, just us as we quarantine, it's a very close reminder of our time when Covid first had us all together for so long.  It's not as shocking this time, and familiar, and we are able to lean on some of the things that helped us during that time as we learned to share space and time.

Strange how this pandemic keeps bringing us closer together.

What's up with O- blood you ask?  Yeah you didn't but we're going to talk about it anyway.  So many questions from kids makes me realize I know so very, very little.  But, it gets me to learn more all the time.

I reflect a short bit on us all seeming to be in a new time, but not fully aware of how we've changed, or not giving it time to settle in as we notice it.  It's how its been for me.  And I'm grateful and hopeful for the future, and wish everyone well.

Diego picked up the book Chadwick Boseman, Forever our King at Barnes and Nobles last week and read through it quickly.  I'm glad he chose to learn more about his superhero favorites, and about the person behind the character.  I didn't know myself how much of an impact his entire career made in such a short lifespan, not just Black Panther.  This impact even is inspirational in the cooking show Sofia watches, which had a Marvel cake competition and the cooks making the Black Panther one sparked a very open dialogue about the challenges of being black in America and what that role meant for him.

We also just rant a bit and I'm amazed how much we all have to be grateful for, no matter how small or repetitive, or difficult.  Life is Beautiful.

This Christmas season is very different from 2020.  Today was an entire father daughter weekend, and we made sure to make the most of it.  Legos, hot chocolate, shopping, San Marcos Xmas Festival, a podcast and some Fro-Yo yo.

I don't always get things right, I like anyone else take life and time for granted (less as I age I'm noticing), or let emotions get the better of me which blocks my ability to be present.  But today I feel like I got things right.  Especially seeing the most gigantic smile on Sofia's face after winning a stuffed animal at the carnival, and then upgrading it for the bigger one and carrying them around, holding them tightly.

We came, we left, we came back, and now we're here but this time.....a new chapter shall begin.  A true chapter turn in life.  It's felt when it happens, and you know when it is what it is.  Reminds me of one podcast where I was thinking about life in 5 year sections, and this one is right about that.

We hang and just chat.  Things discussed are:

6th grade.  Middle School phenomenon that is a chapter turn in life itself.

Now the fun, Diego went to BIG BOUNCE AMERICA and saw THE ETERNALS which I look forward to seeing.  Thanks to a good friend with super cool parents, none other than Rob from podcast 11 way back in the early days of the BBP.  He'll be on again sometime I'm sure.

A major step has been taken, Diego's first solo led podcast! Very proud of him.  It's with his cousin and GP, a short one but still big accomplishment of leading it without me in the room.  I foolishly expected it to go longer, but had to later acknowledge to him what he did and apologize for not first recognizing what he just achieved.  A lesson for me for sure, one we can probably all relate to when we have certain expectations and allow those to block our view of the good things right in front of us.

I hope he can enjoy and see what I'm trying to do for him, and who knows what he'll think of this journey later.  I plan to have more talks with GP later and get into the nitty gritty of the patience needed to restore a part of your past and present.

My good friend and fellow colorist in LA, one of the hardest working and real people in this world I'm fortunate enough to know, Marcelo Aprile.

He was born and raised in Brazil, moved the US at 20 years old to help the future for himself and his family.   Then returned to Brazil with skills he pushed hard for here in the states, overcoming many obstacles that engulf you in Los Angeles, and in post production he thrived.  Then, returned yet again to the US, and his journey like many of ours is absolutely no straight line.

Was happy to have more memories shared with Diego from a friend.

Wow....seeing people again.  Very strange indeed.  But man am I happy to have had the forced opportunity this past year to straighten things out I had overlooked and ignored for too long.  Feeling better about where we are and how my family pulled through this time with strength and positivity that will continue to grow.

With so much happening so fast, I forgot to talk about my favorite part of visiting my favorite park in San Antonio, Yanaguana Park (link below).  Diego and I played ping pong outside while Sofia and Melissa played near the giant splash pad.  Another day where we got it right, in our eyes, in what we want for us as a family.  Time.  Time together.

Exploring this book has been enlightening, and definitely deepened my knowledge of what dedication to spreading health, happiness and strength looks like. I first read Becoming the Iceman awhile back, and it inspired me then, but this book further explained the updates to what the WHM is capable of.

Here is a link to the book, and the artist that I hired to draw the picture of Wim.

Totally random convo, using Mind Games by Michael Powell as a conversation starter.  Spring Break 2021 is over, the feeling this year versus spring break 2020 is much, much different.  At this time last year, we were all spraying door handles, changes hand towels every 10 seconds, and wiping down every bag and every grocery coming into the house.  We were bringing up the battle gates and filling the moats.  But this year, after much has been learned, the weight is beginning to lift, and I foresee a great future ahead.

Get sleep, drink water, get in some sunshine, and enjoy yourselves out there.

Hello Happy Sunday.  Today I sat with Sofia and just went over what we did this weekend, and as unimportant as it may seem on the outset, in my opinion its definitely not.  We forget things quite quickly being humans in this world, and to miss reminiscing about 24 hours ago is a good thing.  We got to see a farm that has been around since 2004, and that provides our weekly organic veggies.  The kids got to run down the long dirt paths and be surrounded in the fields.

We bought veggie starts and planted them in our small garden which I hope proves successful this year.  Then went to McKinney Roughs which was an amazing space with way more than expected.  Zip lines we'll have to do on next trip there.  Walking in nature with good friends and our kids was a very special day to not forget.

Today Diego and I had the pleasure and honor of speaking with Glen Young, a longtime friend who I haven't spent nearly enough time in person with. He has lived and continues to live his passion for climbing and mountaineering. He shares some of the genesis of how he became to be a Martial Arts Muay Thai instructor in Thailand, ice climbing in Alaska, Washington St., Nepal, amongst many others.

There is always more to learn and I hope you gain as much as I did from his endless and compassion for the world and our society as a whole. He lives in line with his values and pursues expanding his knowledge always. If you are ever planning to go on a short or long expedition, find this wonderful person and go for it.

Here is his Bio from Miyar Adventures.

Local Guide & Climbing Programs Director Glen has been working as an alpine guide for sixteen years, having led trips in North America, South America, Africa, Asia, and the South Pacific. Glen's climbing and guiding career has included seventeen climbs above 20,000 ft., including technical climbs of peaks such as AmaDablam and Kyajo Ri in Nepal and big glacier routes in Alaska. He's climbed routes on El Cap, Half Dome, and Big Walls in Zion in addition to hundreds of multi-pitch rock routes around the globe. Here in the Pacific Northwest he enjoys guiding complex alpine objectives such as the North Ridge of Forbidden Peak and the North Face of Mt. Shuksan. Previously, Glen guided white-water expeditions and taught martial arts. When not in the office or the field with Miyar he runs a nonprofit in Nepal that provides training to Nepalese mountain guides and funds infrastructure in remote areas of the Himalayas (www.karmaproject-nepal.org). Glen is an AMGA Assistant Rock Guide and Apprentice Alpine Guide who is working toward IFMGA certification, which is the highest level of certification available to professional mountain guides.

Well well isn't time to do some adulting one sided reading.  You get to hear my soothing voice read through "Nudge" by Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein.  Very interesting read, and most surprising, it nudged me to action.

At end is short catch up with the kids which I hope you enjoy.

A big smile on Diego's face, that what I do this for.  Having close friends with such amazing lives and talents beyond what can be touched on in an hour.  I look forward more conversations with Robert, who shares experiences from childhood to current adulthood about Baja Mexico off-road racing, building pre-runners, racing dirt bikes, and pushing himself further every step of the way.

He rides and races for fun, but is also a highly credited camera operator and film producer on films such as "Driving Dirty", "Formula Drift", and "Suzuki Speaks" to name a few.

Here we are, the long awaited end to 2020.  But through all the changes in almost everything, we have gained a chance to look at how we spend our time, how we spend our money, where we put energy, how to help ourselves and others more.  It's been an introspective one for sure, and our country is forced to face how we make and buy foods, what problems our current food system has created, and people and organizations have already been making amazing changes that will become the new norm.

____

It always seems like we over-correct as a household and as a country and as a planet.  But during this time, I'm grateful for all we have and being able to connect with many friends and family I hadn't previously.

This is what's left after four amazing days of family you haven't seen in months.  Kids are thoroughly exhausted and not into it, but I have to capture what I can, even if it's only 20 minutes of their voices and their time.  They are here.  They won't always be.  It's not the conversation, it's that we're having one, and I'm listening, I'm wanting to be here with them.  It is absolutely necessary for to do this in some capacity, as I quite often am mentally jumping to the future where I'm sitting in the same room, but it is painfully silent as I listen to only my breath, then simultaneously being present with my two young children, unaware of how truly momentary these days are.  I hope all of you were able to find moments or more of deepened appreciation, especially for all the things we have and who we have in our lives.

Houston born and raised, she pursued barbering after 13 years as a stylist, during which time she lived and worked in San Francisco and New York before returning to Texas.  She shared with us her journey to connecting with her profession, and will be opening her own trailer here in East Austin soon.

-

A life changing illness led her to begin creating her own barber products, free from toxins, which brought her personal relief, and every client and the barber community at large will benefit from them soon.

-

She also talked about her journey to connecting with her ancestral roots of being Native American, and her participation in the Standing Rock protests in 2016 against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

-

We appreciate her being in our lives, and I am inspired by her spirit to push through all obstacles to pursue her calling and improving her craft and lifestyle no matter what comes before her.

Ahhhhhh yes....American Election time.  No, not discussing it here much.  Instead....I try to illuminate what my confused and spinning mind is like.  Being home with all its perks, differences, changes...what's happening in the background of my thoughts while trying to spend (and not miss) time with my kids, all while not allowing the drastic change of daily life to steer me back toward familiar territory.  We are creatures of habit, and this quarantine routine has its ups and downs.  We all have much to be grateful for, even if I'm looking at not fun facts, it lights up what good is possible.  So, step into my head if you dare.....

Today Diego and I got to hear the inside details of what it takes to bring a video game to life, and what it takes to pursue a life of making them.  Our friend Dan came and dropped some knowledge on us.  He has spent his adult life making games in all aspects, and is now Game Director and leads from the top to create them with his team.  From 2D to  Oculus games, he's done it all.

Thanks Dan for hanging with us, and we'll see you on the trails.

Happy Sunday, today we went over a book from the Warrior Kid series that Diego had read last year, which Sofia has now started reading.  She finished this one, and I'm always impressed with the writing as its just as much for adults as for kids, lesson wise.

It covers bullying, overcoming problems, facing fears, taking responsibility, and more.  I'm glad to have found them and that my kids can learn (as well as me) important lessons and reminders for myself on how to address positive direction for all of us.

All right, back at it.  Diego and I chat about school starting up, summer being over, and Starlink and holes in your head.  That's how we roll.

I let him escape before I read a bit from Food Fix, which is very detailed in its suggestions for health and how we can all play a role in reversing the damage that has amassed from passively consuming whatever is easiest and/or cheapest.  It also details how that a large portion of our population doesn't have a choice and are surrounded by bad options, which is hard to overcome.  There is always light at the end of the tunnel, and my appreciation goes out to everyone working to change that.

As always, thanks for listening.

Well well, time flies when you're having fun.  We have passed two years and plan to keep it going.   I will keep reading (and actually finish) and bring you more notes and research.  This virus has me distracted often, so I'm a little all over the place.

We still get our workouts in, bike rides, sleep, eating well.  Our victory garden is in and first sprouts are coming up too!

This is also a time to do some spring/summer house cleaning, give away all you can or don't need, and realize many of us have more than we can or do use.

If you want to stay at the ranch with Alpacas, here's the link https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/342253808

Looks like we have a 2020-2021 school year of remote learning for many, so getting a good dedicated space for the kids I'm hoping will help with getting into the zone.

Take care of yourselves more than you ever have, listen to your body, and of course...

The kids and I hang for a bit, thinking back on a weekend that we spent on a small ranch for July 4th weekend.  We are continuing with our social distancing, which also allows us to get more quality time with the kids.  I do miss being with other friends and family, but it is special to have the kids all to ourselves and maximize a time in their lives where they love being close to us.    We played cards, swam all day, and we spent every meal together sharing appreciation and gratefulness that all of it is even possible.

We are aware it can't be that way for everyone, and that we should know how grateful we need to be for these moments.  I got to sit in a small horse barn, watching Diego pet the 3 dogs for long stretches of time, watch Sofia swim stronger than ever and gain confidence in the pool.   Coach him as he drove the Ranger with enthusiasm across the ranch, and also teach them both pool, and of course dual in ping pong with Diego who beat me every time.  His great-grandfather would be proud.

In the mornings, I rode my mountain bike around the perimeter and put the dual shocks to work, and found a nice quiet spot in the middle of the large open land to pause, and sit quietly, making sure I recognize how special of a time it is, and how fortunate we are to even find moments like these.

Cousins!! Yes, a sit down with the hosts with the most, my cousins Jacob and Brandie Smith.  Jacob and I used to catch minnows in the creek as kids on the land where he grew up, and this weekend I camped with Diego by that same creek.

This couple never cease to amaze me with their sense of adventure and physical capabilities.  And bonus, they are fun too!  Huge thanks to them for sitting down with me immediately after our last episode with Diego.

We get to listen from Jacob about his long dirt bike journeys on the Transamerica Trail, the Continental Divide, and a solo mission through New Mexico, he also works for Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant in Glen Rose, and enlightens us on real details from the inside.

Brandie, rancher and goat yoga extraordinaire gets to drop more knowledge and I can't get enough.  So cool to sit and just listen and learn more about my family, we should close a door, and look in each other's eyes and just listen.  It's amazing what you learn from one another.

Alot has been weighing on my mind. I wasn't sure how to say anything, but knew I needed to. With the encouragement of close friends, I speak up, and not ignore that I have time and a microphone and a duty as a father, husband, and member of society to do so.

Was I hesitant? Yes.

Do I have opinions? Yes.

I thought it better to learn more, speak up, and open myself to conversation as I typically don't.

If you have any thoughts, or wish to reach me for this or any other episode, you can email me here. I don't get around to checking it often but when I do I promise to write back.

So today we do a follow up on Shoe Dog by Phil Knight.  The story is nail biting and we left off on a cliff hanger, so soon we'll find out the rest.   I also read a bit from Lawrence Krauss's book, which I barely comprehended most of, but learned about the extreme patience and diligent persistence of many scientists and researchers on their quest for new knowledge.  Some waiting for decades to be validated in their hypotheses.

Again, we touch on how being at home with one another is going as well.

I kept thinking to myself the word 'sometimes' lately.  Sometimes I need space, sometimes I want nothing more than to be together, sometimes I want things exactly as they are, sometimes I want everything familiar again, sometimes I welcome the wave of change that is our whole life if we look back for a second, and know we are the future's past.

So, that being said, I thought of Ceelo and his wisdom, after hearing David Whyte recite his poetry, and recognized the similar title.  Then I remembered my old poem of opposites which I think we are all feeling right now.

And Diego's priceless laugh.  Can't want to do this again.  Thanks for listening.

Well....I'm pretty much all over the place, clearly scatterbrained a bit, many thoughts circling throughout the day.  I had a big stack of papers, not properly organized, highlighted, or thought out.  Weak attempt, but an attempt.  I was trying to express adult thoughts but trying to not forget the whole point of this podcast I do with my son.  To just be with my son.  To just be.  To try and relax and just shoot the breeze.  It's precious time we'll all wish we had more of, and time to feel putting your arms around your loved ones in a way you just won't see openly for quite some time.

By the way, first homemade beans still on my mind, not bad at all.

One Year Anniversary of the Bond! Whoa did that go by fast.  I thank anyone who has listened, I truly hope you have gained something positive as I know you all have busy lives, so THANK YOU ALL.

It has been extremely rewarding for me, and I feel that Diego loves the time that is dedicated to us.  We will keep it going until we don't, but the plan is to keep figuring out what we're doing.  One thing is certain, just making time was and is the goal, and that is a success in my eyes.

I'm all over the place, but that's who I am, and that's who I'll be.  Just continuing to learn, and reminding myself I barely know anything, I barely understand anything, and that is a ripe opportunity to learn and be humble.

Another epic week of Father-Son bonding on our annual trip to go camping in San Mateo, California.  After camping Diego did a recording with his friend that camped with us, Miles Suggs, who is only 4 months apart in age and grew up together until our move to Texas.   We visit him every time we come back and the boys had a blast hanging out and camping.  I followed right after and spent some time with his father, Steve Suggs.  Also a longtime friend, who was a cameraman for Eye Witness LA before many years before opening  his own production company.  His company is Mad Dog Video, which currently has sets shooting there for Basketball Wives.  We got a tour for the first time which we were happy to see.  It has been open for 29 years, and has an extremely long list of credits which you'll have to go to the website to read.

This trip helps strengthen our bond, and give us both opportunities to help each other explore our interests and learn from each other.

Many thanks to all our friends we visited and of course my friend Scott, who without him I would still be searching for a father-son tradition.

Enjoy!

Happy Sunday! Diego go over a bit of reading, he reads from Geronimo Stilton, The Way of the Samurai, and I read a little again from 21 Lessons by Yuval Harari.  His book is no 'Book of 5 Rings' but is still a way to expose him to alot of cool facts about Japan's history.  We were both a little too relaxed from eating lunch, so excuse our overly calm demeanor.  Take care! And wasabi is hot.

My childhood friend visits us and we take a nice walk down 7th grade memory lane, Diego gets to laugh at me.  Chris is the Jr. Marine Corps training teacher at Bedichek Middle School in South Austin, and is also an Air Force Veteran having spent time in Germany and Albuquerque, New Mexico.  Oh and some poop stories.  Thanks for listening!

Fresh back from our 3rd Annual Neighbors Beach Trip in Port Aransas.  We are very fortunate to have such amazing friends and neighbors, and we all get to share time and memories together, a new tradition for all of us.  Good times.  We also talk about taking care of the beach, and the importance of not littering, and also paying attention to how much trash we throw away everyday, not just at the beach.

Happy Belated Mother's Day!  I had a slight delay in getting to this episode, but better late than never.  Thank you to all the Moms out there working hard and loving unconditionally.  Diego is forced to listen to me recall how I wasn't as appreciative of my Mom until later in life, hopefully some of this sinks in, and I am forced to listen to crunching.  Take care!

Today Diego's classmate Victor came to share his experience about winning a chess tournament, and earning his blackbelt in Taekwondo.  I also let the boys have some private time on the mics, so the end is just two kids hanging out, so be ready for that.  Thanks for listening!

Today we dive into a chronological conversation with the one and only, GP (Grandpa).  Diego's GP walks us through what life as a migrant worker was like when he was as grew up traveling with family.  A great treasure for him to have and remember listening to the hard work that he lived through to enjoy the life he has now.  A very positive and caring person I'm glad is in both our lives.  Enjoy.

Hi we had a guest neighbor Dylan Miller as I attempted to answer Diego's question "Why do I have to take vitamins?".  My apologies for the audio, I am still trying to sort out getting the 3 mic setup to sound correct.

Have a great spring break!

Today we attempt to learn about the cosmos a bit.  I read from Neil Tyson's 'Astrophysics for People in a Hurry' and Diego reads from his Scholastic Children's Encyclopedia about Black Holes.  He asked if I knew anything about them and I had that sudden realization I had read and heard about them many times and still had a loose grasp of what they are and do and how they impact the universe and all things related.  Fun stuff.  Hope you enjoy it and feel free to correct or make fun of my lack of understanding!

Today's guest is a wealth of outdoor and backpacking knowledge.  He tells us about the many summits and peaks that he has taken on throughout the US.  Very fortunate to have someone like him give us a prospective that contrasts with our typical day to day lives.

Diego reads from the autobiography Shoe Dog by Phil Knight, and I read from Reset Your Child's Brain by Victoria Dunckley. We all wrestle with the idea of screen time's impact on ourselves and our kids. I wanted to dive deeper and learn some of the science behind what physiological effects occur.
