Throughout his earthly life, Jesus told his disciples and others what he was doing. But divine hints of what was to come were not limited only to Christ’s years on earth. God had always been telling the story to his people of what Jesus was going to do, and even now, Jesus tells us what he is going to do in our lives. He tells us the what (continue to save sinners) and the how (using us and our work in the midst of this world).

This four-week series will introduce your group to the many ways Christ shows up in the Old Testament. Jesus is the climax of the story of Scripture. He is the better Adam, Abraham, Jonah, and Hosea. Through this series, congregants will learn that the whole story of Christianity is about Jesus, that (unlike Adam) Jesus resisted temptation and can give us strength to do the same, that Hosea shows us Jesus’s love for the sinful, that Isaac prefigures the sacrifice Jesus would later make for us on the cross, and that (unlike Jonah) Jesus lovingly seeks to draw enemies to him.

In addition to being a decorated or plastic egg, an "Easter Egg" is an unexpected feature in a piece of computer software or on a DVD, often included as a joke or a bonus. We’ll take a look at the hidden "Easter Eggs" or prophecies about Jesus in the Old Testament, and what they mean for the Easter story today. Each week connects a specific Old Testament prophecy about Jesus’ death and resurrection with a correlating New Testament passage that explains its significance. By examining the importance of Biblical prophecy and its role in Christian faith, this series uncovers the great rescue plan Heaven had for humanity all along—one Easter Egg at a time.

This four-week series takes an uplifting look at the topic of giving. We’ll explore the blessing to be found in a consciously generous life, one which imitates the generosity of God Himself by becoming Greater. Biblical generosity seeks to please God rather than seeking human reward of acclaim. A giving life is one that does not compare giftedness or resources with others; it is giving God your all (not somebody else’s), knowing that He sees what you have and will reward you at the resurrection.

“‘Consider it joy when you encounter trials…' are you serious?! My emotions are all over the place!” We get it, but God didn’t design us that way. He gave us free-will, faith, the Holy Spirit, and counsel through the Bible on how curb our emotions as He changes our heart, and the outcome is absolutely beautiful. You can thrive, even in the wind and waves of life. As the fall begins, school is back in session, a new routine begins to emerge—let’s learn how to be calm in the wind & waves.

One of the most intimidating aspects of faith, according to believers, is prayer. How do I pray? Will God be okay with what I say? What if I don’t word it right? Do I have to pray out loud? The questions that swirl around are great ones. It’s time the church as a whole takes a moment to guide people in the power and movement of prayer with God.

Historically when people have doubted, the church at large has shunned them. “Have more faith!” “Trust in God.” While faith and trust are certainly part of it, is it okay to have doubts in faith? How should we process that and what does God have to say about it all?

”Everywhere I turn there is bad stuff happening.” “How am I supposed to live like Jesus when this world is so dark?” Great question. It’s easy to get down about how much our world hurts. The real question should be “In what ways is God equipping me to be a bright light to a dark world?” In this series we’ll look at what it means to live a life as a light.

The number one question searched online about faith is "How do I read the Bible?" Statistically, that makes sense considering that the average Christian only picks up their Bible 2x a month at most. It’s time to change the standard and foster a love and devotion to the words of the God we aim to follow.

Words have power. Even the simplest words can change the course of your life. Words like HELP can move us to recovery. YES can open doors to new things. SORRY and THANKS can heal families. When we use small words, God will show you the big things He will do in your life.

With all the people and things begging for our attention, it's no wonder faith, church, and God get pushed to the side. We're distracted. We have too many choices, not enough training on what it means to live well, and of course we're destined to repeat the same behaviors we've been modeled. Today is the day for us to change direction. Not put on the blinders to the distractions, but to look at them boldly, with God's power, and tell them where to go. Taking the reins of life and making bold choices that will change our faith and the world around us.

Why do some people run the race of life and seem to have it great, while others are in the same race and can barely keep up? Well, it all comes down to one simple word... action. Some people hear the wisdom of Jesus and take action, doing exactly as He says. Others decide they know better and try to run the race alone and take short cuts. In this series, we will explore why the words of Jesus have eternal implications, and when we follow we will see that life is truly #blessed.

When we enter this world our hope should be to leave it better than we found it. Our families, work, neighborhood, city, and more importantly, faith. The only way we can maximize that is by harnessing the power God uses in our lives to bring people closer to Him. THAT is how we leave a legacy beyond ourselves.

Every single one of us is a work in process. We say process because not
everybody is making progress. Some are falling behind, some think they know better yet don’t, and even other want to move forward, but lack the courage to actually take the step. In this series, we want to level the work site of life and start to [re]build our faith from the ground up. But it’s a process with Jesus that will lead to true progress.

The 90’s were an interesting time. Much of the rapid changes were all about appearance. How we look, what we own, how do people see me? It was fun to watch it all happen, but the outside can be flashy while the inside is all over the map. How do we get the inside rooted day to day? Well, the Psalms are a GREAT source of wisdom and direction. In this series, we’ll explore Psalms 90-99 and learn that we truly Love The 90’s.

When we think about coming to faith and following Jesus, what should we anticipate is going to happen in our life? Will our actions be different? Will we talk differently? Will our decisions reflect a different mindset? The good news is that there are actually some clear signs that begin to happen in the life of someone who follows Jesus. You will see that your life is changing by the fruit it produces. In this 9-week series, we'll look at what life looks like when you follow the man named Jesus. We need to get over what we think we know and embrace a new concept of what it means to be a believer and follower of Jesus.

For years the church and Christians at large have been okay with talking about things like alcohol addiction, broken marriages, character flaws, etc. But, what answer does the church have when people battle anxiety, depression and mental health? Is it simply to pray it away? Do I not have enough faith if it doesn’t go away? There are so many questions and more often than not there are very little answers. What does the Bible have to say about this? Is there any hope for people wrestling with this? How can you help people who are battling these things?

We convince ourselves of the image we think we HAVE to be instead of the image God MADE us in. When we are in (identify with) Christ, we are enough. When we see our identity this way, in Christ, we can move through whatever life throws at us. He is big enough to be the one we can trust to handle it all. It's when we realize that He is ENOUGH that we can really live!

Our children have been taken over by a culture and world with heavy agendas. What they want them to believe, say and do is clear each time we look around. It’s time to take back the reigns and lead our children to what is true about them and what God wants for their future. Let’s not let them remain kidnapped. And this isn’t just for kids. Adults can be easily swayed to believe things about themselves and this world that aren’t true. Who is influencing and possibly kidnapping you?

When we make our choices, we show what we love, what we value. To a certain extent, we show God what we worship. Through the Bible there are moments where people build altars to remember what happened there. But it wasn't to sports teams, it wasn’t a man cave or an expansive craft room… the people of God built them to remember “God is in control.” What alters are you building?

As a church we sing, “If grace is an ocean we’re all sinking.” But, do we believe it for us and not for others. What about the pedophile, the rapist, the murderer, the liar, the thief, the egomaniac, the gossiper, and more? If grace is for everyone, it’s going to be really messy. The good news is, it’s not our mess to clean up. How to we live a life that embraces the God’s amazing grace?

Belief and faith can be tricky things. How can we believe in someone we cannot physically see? Where is He? What is He doing? How do I talk to Him? Can I really know He’s there and active in my life? These hurdles of belief and faith begin when we’re bold enough to let out the line and trust that He can be the one to anchor us.

We believe we are wise and know what we’re doing. In life, nobody can tell us we’re wrong and if they do “ain’t nobody got time for that.” We dismiss them as rude, hurtful, and trying to bring us down. But, that kind of spirit, an unteachable, I do what I want spirit, will only lead to ruin. We all need a hub, a foundation, an anchor if you will, keeping us steady and connected to what is true. True about life, morality, eternity, and our movement through this existence. God is THE only anchor that stands the test of time.
The life of Daniel didn’t just change the face of a generation, it changed the course of history. Daniel chose to follow God and God honored him along the way. We too can learn to follow God so boldly that we can see a culture shift.

In the Bible in the book of Ephesians, we’re constantly reminded of the one God designed us to be. Too often we forget that we have turned over a new leaf in Christ. A totally new person who is serving an amazing God. It’s time we get to leaving the old us behind, and grab hold of the new you.

When we see someone’s life unravelling, the natural reaction most people have is “It’s none of my business.” They don’t get involved. What if you have an obligation to help those around you, even if it’s not your mess? But, what if it is your mess? It’s time to take ownership of what’s happening in our lives and accept accountability for our circus and our monkeys.

Whether it's rescuing the princess or having Prince Charming ride in to sweep you away, the storybook perfection we've been told about isn't coming. When it comes to being perfect in a relationship or marriage, we all fail. But God has painted a picture of how we are to model behaviors in a healthy relationship/marriage.

What is my life supposed to look like when I follow Jesus? Am I supposed to sell everything I have and move to Africa? Is the only way to honor God to go overseas and work? I want to follow Jesus, but sometimes I’m scared. Almost terrified. I want to learn and be at a place where I’m able to say, “Here Am I, Send Me.”

Jesus is the most influential man to ever walk the earth. His story, whether you want to accept it, has shaped time, culture, kingdoms, countries, and more. The way people live and move in life has been shaped by the teachings of the man named Jesus. But, even in the wake of all He did, the question remains, Why Jesus? Why should I follow and believe in this guy? What weight does this have in my life personally?

It’s easy to forget the journey you’re on. We end of forgetting our purpose and simply exist. We need reminding about what our purpose is, our mission, what we measure our life by, and how to move forward. It helps when someone reminds us, we can’t stay here.

What if we took a look at some of the last words of Jesus' best friend John? How would it impact our life? Our journey? The way we live with joy in Jesus? John takes a moment in one of his final letters to encourage us to keep the main thing the main thing... Just Jesus.
Money isn’t an easy topic. It’s the number one reason why most couples get divorced. But it doesn’t have to be. Money is talked about a TON during Jesus time. What does God think about money? We want to learn from him so we can be honorable, instead of living life continually strapped.

Life is hard. Sometimes we just set ourselves into autopilot and sail. We move not knowing if things will get better and fear changing anything because it feels safer to simply stay with what we know. What if we were to seek out and find refuge in the one who can sustain, heal, and revive us? Let’s point ourselves towards the shelter of His harbor.

Every Sunday, churches in North America gather for worship. We sing. We pray. We give. We listen to a message. With rare exception, we do this without thinking someone would do harm to us. Yet, around the world, it’s estimated that nearly 322 Christians die each month simply because they believe in Jesus. That’s nearly 11 every day. That means next Sunday, when you go home from church, it’s likely that someone in the world went to church and did not make it home. What does that mean for the church in the United States? How can we help those around the world? How can we handle ourselves when we are persecuted and challenged in our own faith. In this series, we'll look at how the church can have a passion, excitement and strength in the face of strife. We'll learn to be a Church On Fire.

For years the church and Christians at large have been okay with talking about things like alcohol addiction, broken marriages, character flaws, etc. But, what answer does the church have when people battle anxiety, depression and mental illness? Is it simply to pray it away? Do I not have enough faith if it doesn’t go away? There are so many questions and more often than not there are very little answers. What does the Bible have to say about this? Is there any hope for people wrestling with this? How can you help people who are battling these things?

Instructions manuals are great, but they are rarely used. Usually we try to just dive in and figure things out on our own. Sometimes we get it right, but often it doesn’t go the way we intended. In those instances, it’s like we are holding on by a thread. Like life is so paper thin that at any moment it could tear and we’d fall apart. Let’s learn about what it means to study and understand God’s story. In this series, we’ll take a look at the Bible and what it’s so important to study, engage and live it’s teaching on a regular basis.

Have you ever tried to talk to someone who wasn’t engaged with the conversation? It’s almost like you’re talking to yourself. When it comes to prayer, it might feel like that at first. God are you listening? Are you even there? How are you helping and moving in my life? With all these questions, it’s time to get a better understanding of what prayer is and what prayer isn’t.

“Follow your heart” is a phrase we hear from the moment we enter the world. “Your heart won’t steer you wrong.” But, could it? Is there a chance that our heart isn’t what we should be following, and instead something else? Maybe God has something even stronger than following your heart. In this series we’ll take a look at bypassing the heart and moving deeper to a power that has been with us from the dawn of existence.

When we hear the phrase “…it takes a village,” we normally gravitate towards the raising of children. The premise is- different people play a role in helping raise up a child. In much the same way, each member of the church helps raise up the rest of the body and plays a role in making it function. In the life of a healthy church, especially here at Forefront, it takes everyone pitching in. We all play a part. We all matter. To fulfill the mission, “It Takes A Village.”

In the battle for our souls, the victory has already been won. Jesus conquered the grave, beating death, hell and all of the demons including the chief of them- Satan Himself. In this week we are reminded that this is the difference between heaven & hell. We can find eternal security in a relationship with Jesus Christ. If we are already following Him, let’s not lose heart. If we aren’t following Him yet, the real question is “Why not?”

God is absolutely amazing, but not everyone agrees. Some people think He is a vengeful God. Other people believe He is a God who doesn’t care about this world, or that He doesn’t exist at all. Some have come to be okay with God, but have been hurt/wounded by the church. How do we engage a culture and people so we don’t hear them say “You Lost Me?”

The playground was an intimidating place as kids. We knew the only way to navigate it and survive was to play by the rules. Now, as we track with God, it’s time to learn a new set of rules and ways to foster a thriving relationship with God.

Dropped calls are the worst. Finding a signal when you need it most can almost fill you with a paralyzing anxiety. But we don’t just use our phone for emergencies. We use it to reach out to friends, keep up with family, make calls day to day. It’s for all the time communication. So, why does it seem like people only run to God in an emergency. And, when we need to, it seems like we’ve got no bars and He’s not listening. How would life look if we functioned every day communicating with God? If we didn’t wait till the emergencies, but knew how to talk to Him all the time. What if we stayed in contact with Him so often, that it was like we were talking with a “Full Signal?”

Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” You remember this saying? It isn’t true at all is it? Words are powerful. They can cause joy and happiness, or they can lead to hurt, pain, and heartbreak. How we choose to speak to people and about them, says a great deal about our character, our heart, and how we love. Let’s pick up the right words, and drop the “Sticks & Stones.”

Boring? Unadventurous? Meek? Irrelevant? These are some of the phrases people use to talk about Jesus. Say Whaaaaaat?! Jesus isn't any of those things. His time on earth presented some of the greatest adventures of all time. Let's jump in the car with Jesus as we take a look at His life, adventures, and what He wants to teach us. Oh, and "I Call Shotgun!"

Selfie. Kodak moment. Let me hashtag that. We find ourselves grabbing photos of all sorts of moments. Ones that we cherish, ones that are crazy, and even ones that are painful. But what if those moments or even single moment, began to define us? What if we became so consumed with just a part of the story, we forgot the rest entirely? Let's take a look at, "Snapshots."
Rip currents and waves can move us places that we don’t even realize. Then at some point we look up to see we’ve moved way down the beach. How did that happen? Why didn’t we notice? What could we have done, changed, recognized, to see it happening and possibly stop it. It happens with our spiritual journey with God on a daily basis. Unless we keep a close eye, we can drift far from him without knowing. There’s got to be a way to notice, “The Drift.”

There’s an easy way and then there’s a hard way. Choosing shortcuts, easy ways, and faster outcomes seems to almost be a no brainer. But, what if that isn’t the plan? What if life takes work? Maybe, the things we need to do aren’t always the easiest, but the best for us will mean putting in a HUGE amount of effort... Let’s take a look at the “Wide & Narrow.”

Surgery. An accident. A childhood event gone bad. Everybody has scars. Most of the time we cover them up, explain them away, or choose to ignore them. What about the scars that people don’t see? The ones that stick with us inside? How do we deal with those? What ways can we heal? How can we turn the hurtful things over to God, so He can frame them, hang them up, and show us the things we can learn from our “Beautiful Scars.”

We’ve seen the people on their soapbox. The bullhorn guys at the beach. The billboards and signs that tell us how bad we are. How do you and I tell other people about Jesus? Are we changing the standard? Are we talking to people? Or, are we letting the one’s with the loudest and usually harshest remarks set the tone? Time to learn how to share the love of Jesus with others, face to face, one on one. Not with “Bullhorns & Billboards.”

George Costanza. You probably know him best from the show, Seinfeld. He was the short, balding friend who always had something crazy going on with his job, relationships, friends. But, in one particular episode, we get to know him best for his ridiculously thick wallet. He doesn't get rid of anything. He's a hoarder. He has tons of credit cards. He holds on to anything financial with a kung fu grip. Remind you of anyone personally? (hint, look in the mirror) In this series, we'll look at how mankind is called to be generous. How what we have isn't really ours to begin with, and how to break, "The Costanza Effect."

Ever seen someone pass out? I mean hit the floor and get knocked out. What about when they heard news that took them by surprise? They just couldn’t handle it and it dislodges them mentally. Maybe you do the same thing. Life hands you something, you get taken over by a situation, and instead of dealing with it head on, you hide. You run. You do anything other than face it. It’s time to get out of your frozen state that knocks us off our feet and interact with the amazing teaching’s of Jesus. Let’s embrace the life He has for us and quit being “Floored” by what he calls us to be.

We wonder, have you ever felt like that? Have you felt like life has just been squashed and you've failed so much there is no signs of life left? Well, all that can change. The truth is, you're not without life. The even better truth is, no matter how much you've failed, fallen, or been hurt, God can pick you up out of the rubble. It's time to learn that we are more than a "Wasteland."

When we know where we've been, we can learn form it and move forward in a better direction. Let's get to know our history. Let's move “The Little Guys" to the front of the pack.

Your existence isn’t about just being here on Sundays or attending programs & events. While God smiles when you are pouring into yourself, it’s also about pouring into others too. Human nature makes it easy to receive, but how are we doing with giving of ourselves to others? In this series, we want to take a look at not only people who are answering God’s call and changing the world, but also ways that each and every one of us can impact people’s lives. With God, you too can be a “World Changer.”

If it’s been awhile since you’ve cleaned, you’ll notice the dust that settles. Things get a little dirty. You can tell how long it’s been since you’ve used it. Some things go days, weeks, even years without being touched. What if we’ve let God & His word (the Bible) get the same treatment? In this one week message, we’ll kick off the new year looking at how we all can, “Shake The Dust.”

When we hear a song, it reminds us of a moment in time. A wedding, first date, the day our boyfriend/girlfriend broke up with us, first day of college, when our little child was born… Music really does create a soundtrack to our lives. But, some of those moments stir up things we’ve pressed down inside. Unwilling to address. Moments of hurt, pain and anger. While other moments are joyful, amazing, and remembered daily. In this series, “My Mixtape Life” we’ll take a look at some songs that point back to a greater story, the story of God and all His glory, and how sometimes we hijack that story to point back to us.

We all have questions. Is there a God? If so, does He love me? Why do I have to live for Him? Why do bad things happen to good people? What is this whole baptism thing? We could go on for a life time with our questions. But, what if instead of simply sitting with our questions, we began to explore them? Are there answers to these questions? What does the Bible have to say about this? We'll tackle your questions in a real, unfiltered way in this series, "Q&A."

Why is that some people flourish with faith and others just seem to fall off the map? What are their stories? What circumstances in life led them to where they ended up? How does my story with God translate through the lens of these people? We aim to tackle all these and more as we ask, “Where Are They Now?”

There are plenty of things that are “greater than” in our eyes. Each one of us has an opinion on it. Maybe it’s your favorite place to eat, sports team, the way you like to exercise. But, there are some things that are so great in life, that we cannot live without them. Many of these things, our culture is leaving behind. Time to pick back up where God led us, and move forward in thankfulness as we honor others.
What makes a church? People do. But not just people. People honoring a great God. The one true God. Helping people. Aiding those who are hurting. The down and out. Because, we’ve all been there. And a church isn’t a building either. It isn’t lights, sound, equipment, or signage. But… What if… Everybody’s Welcome? If Jesus is the hope of the world, than the message shouldn’t be confined to a certain group of people. What if… Nobody’s Perfect? If we’re all in a state of separation from God since the first sin of Adam & Eve, then we all are messed up and in need or redemption. What if… Anything’s Possible? If that’s true, God has a bigger plan for Forefront Church than just a few hours on Sunday’s at a rented High School. It’s going to be miraculous.

Love has been dragged around, beaten up, left out in the cold, and redefined by our culture. It’s time to reclaim what love is truly about and where it all started. How can we feel the truest form of love ever witnessed this side of Heaven? To engage it head on. To look at Jesus and see that not only did he display love, but he is love… illuminated.

Jesus' words reveal so much about how we are to live, love, and share with those who are hurting and in pain. What if the teachings of Jesus call us to do more than sit idle? What if we're meant to live for more than just being spectators? now is the time to find out what exactly Jesus is calling us to be.
From the moment that Adam & Eve ate the fruit, it changed our status spiritually. We went from being "In The Fam" to "Orphans." In this series, "Adopted By God" we aim to redeem the idea of adoption, which is God's design, and how he welcomes us into His family. We can be sons and daughters.

Ever feel like you should surrender in life? Are you stubborn and always have to do things on your own without any help? Well, there was a guy named Jonah who was pretty stubborn and didn't want to listen to anyone… until God intervened. When God stepped in, Jonah comes to a place where he debates waving the "White Flag."

As hurricane Irene came through the Hampton Roads area, most churches had to cancel Sunday morning services. So, in a group effort, Real Life Christian Church (http://www.real-life-online.com) and Forefront (http://www.forefront.org) decided to do a service with both churches together as the hurricane left the coast. It was a great time with the Real Life Band and our Pastor, Jason, brought an engaging and timely message for everyone.
