Dick Sorenson shares practical insight on Ephesians chapter 2 and how to apply it to our lives.
Ephesians 2 “You and I, at one time, we were dead in our trespasses and sins…”
Now the word "dead" there could also be translated we were separated, and "in our trespasses" is a term for stepping sideways and slipping, or making a miss step. It is something that could happen accidentally or it could happen on purpose. And "sins" there, is a term for "to miss the mark". Again, it could be an inability to hit the mark, because one word picture that goes along with that particular word is an image of a father walking in front of a son and the son trying to step exactly in the footprints of the father. But, the son only being about 5 years old, does not have the ability to step as far as the father does, and so he misses the mark.
About six months ago, I began to think about my life as a book. Not as a book that I would write, but as a book that I have lived. I just kept thinking to myself, “What would some of the chapters of my life be called?” I didn’t even try to answer the question, but I came to the conclusion that God already knew. He sees the big picture of my life, from every childhood memory and trauma, to every epiphany and joyful adventure. I had been pondering this concept and the fact that there must be something He had for me in every season, in every chapter of my life.
