Today we are looking at one of the most beautiful and lovely stories in the bible. It’s a story that is so vivid that it appeals to all of our senses. It’s a story of worship and devotion. We are going to look at the five main characters and their roles or contributions to the story: The Work of Martha The Witness of Lazarus The Worship of Mary The Waste of Judas The Word of Jesus
John 11 is one of the most significant chapters in the bible. It’s the beautiful and wonderful story of Jesus’ power to raise the dead, even His friend Lazarus. More than that, it’s the picture of the God who cares, the God of compassion, Who in the person of Christ, came near.
Today we are looking at what is describes as the Parable of the Good Shepherd. Actually it’s not really a parable, but an allegory. John does not include the parables of Jesus in His gospel but focuses much more on Jesus’ identity and His unique relationship with the Father.
Today as Jesus continues to minister in Jerusalem, we see Him heal a man who was blind from birth. It is the story of a miracle, but the miracle leads to conversion.
Last week we went over the marks of a true disciple and the benefit of being a true disciple, then we began to look at the three truths that Jesus presented to those He was addressing. The three main truths are these three statements that begin “Truly, truly, I say to you…” they are in verse 34, verse 51, and verse 58. Last week we looked at the first one in verse 34, today we will look at the remaining two in verses 51 and 58.
As we continue in John’s gospel we see Jesus teaching in the temple and in today’s study He gives lessons on what it means to be a true believer or a true Disciple, and it is much more than just an association with Him.
Today as we look at Jesus teaching in the temple we are going to see His word at work. He is going to make a pronouncement, a promise and we will see the process of salvation unfold as His word has it’s effect on the hearers.
The ministry of the word comes in a variety of ways. At times it is simply teaching, at other times it is more personal in the application of it toward others. Today we are going to be looking at two different passages. First we are going to conclude John 7, and then we will look at the first 11 verses of John 8. In both of these sections we see the Word of God at work in Jesus ministry.
We live in a time that is filled with confusion. There are so many voices and none of them agree. This is one of the reasons we need the word of God-we need clarification. As we continue in our study of the Gospel of John, we see this same kind of confusion -too many voices, and in the midst of it we see Jesus raise His voice above the others and clarifying statements and give a clear call to salvation.
As we look at the "Faith of the First Family", we see A faith to follow,; A favor to receive; A fear to overcome; and A future that is eternal.
As we finish the message that Jesus gave about bread, His words to the disciples are different than His words to the crowd and to the Jewish leaders. His interaction with them is more personal and intimate, yet not any less challenging.
Today we are looking at the second part of Jesus sermon on bread. As we study the bible, it is important to understand that context is critical to proper interpretation. The context of this message is the larger narrative of the gospel, but also the miracle of the miraculous provision of food-the feeding of the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish. Jesus is spring-boarding off of this miracle to teach about Himself-both His identity and His purpose.
As we follow along in the word of God, even though we are reading the stories of other men and women, their story speaks to us in our situation. This is one of the supernatural aspects of the word of God. It is timeless truth, and within it are lessons that are transferable. Today’s lesson is really two-part. Part one sees the disciples caught in a storm and part two is Jesus beginning to preach about the bread of life. These events are tied to the previous lesson of the miraculous feeding of the multitudes that we looked at last week.
What we are reading today is one of the most wonderful miracles of provision. Besides the resurrection of Jesus, this is the only miracle that occurs in all four of the gospel accounts–making it one that I think God wants to impress upon us all.
Today’s study reads somewhat like a trial. There is judgement and testimony, witnesses and logical arguments and even a closing argument. Jesus was, and is constantly on trial, as unbelieving individuals question Him. This is the continuation of His defense regarding the implied accusation that He does not have authority to heal on the Sabbath, and that He is blaspheming by making Himself out to be the Son of God.
Jesus claims unity with the Father in purpose, love, power, judgement, worship and salvation.
Today’s lesson is about hope. Hope is described as "a favorable and confident expectation”. As we look at this great miracle that Jesus performed, we also see that hope can be misplaced and sometimes deferred, but in Jesus it is always renewed as we are redeemed by Him.
Within the miracle of healing the nobleman’s son, we have a very important lesson on the progressive nature of faith and the process of salvation.
Today we are looking at part two of the story of the woman at the well. As we began this story John tells us that Jesus had to pass through Samaria. Last week we got a glimpse of why, today we see that more fully.
As we begin chapter 4, Jesus shows us by example, what personal evangelism looks like, as He ministers to the woman at the well and brings the gospel to a marginalized community.
As we close out chapter 3 today, we have left the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus and now we read of a conversation between John the Baptist and his followers. This conversation and especially John’s response is a beautiful reminder of the centrality of Jesus and His ministry.
As we look at the last part of this conversation between the Pharisee, Nicodemus, and Jesus, we will see Jesus clarify His purpose and clear up some misunderstandings about judgement.
Nicodemus, a Pharisee, has approached Jesus privately to learn more, but Jesus emphasizes the need for spiritual rebirth and He now explains that in more detail.

Jesus witnesses the corrupt worship at Passover and disrupts the profit machine of the Jews.
John continues his narration of the early days of Jesus’ ministry beginning with this vivid and highly symbolic miracle of turning water into wine.
Five days in the beginning of Jesus' ministry are recorded in these verses as the Apostle identifies John the Baptist and Jesus the Messiah. We see individual begin to follow Jesus and quickly become witnesses of Him as He begins His ministry.
but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
In light of Paul's exhortation to present ourselves to God as a living sacrifice, we must do so in humility (slow your roll), with wisdom regarding our particular gifting (know your role) and obedience (fulfill your role).
Paul tell us that we need to be transformed by the renewal of our mind. This is accomplished by a work of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and our cooperation of obedience.
What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus in the 21st century? Could it be that the church needs a refresher on what it means? The Apostle calls it a “living sacrifice”. #livingsacrifice
As John is nearing the end of his prophetic revelation, he sees and describes the New Jerusalem, God's celestial city and the future residence of the redeemed.
As the vision of what is to come continues, John sees the New Heaven and New Earth. These verses contain some of the most incredible prophetic promises in the Bible.
As John describes what he sees next in his vision, he seems to be seeing things in chronological order. The angel restrains Satan for 1,000 years, Jesus reigns on the earth and the great white throne judgement happens.
As the vision given to John reveals the end of the end, He sees Jesus returning in glory.
John is given a vision of heaven's praise as the tribulation comes to an end and Jesus is joined to His bride.
With the outpouring of the sixth and seventh bowl judgements, God makes an end of the pagan worldly system.
These verses describe the first five bowl judgements, as John describes the great tribulation that is coming upon the God-rejecting world in the last days.

God has given us everything we need -faith, everything to grow, precious promises -all contained in His word that has been delivered by His divine power. These things must be believed and acted upon in oder that we would grow in true knowledge of Him.

As we conclude our eleven weeks long study through the book of 1 Peter, the Apostle reminds us again of the need for humility, and also reminds us of the eternal glory to come.
With an exhortation first to leaders, then to young men and the general population, Peter emphasizes new responsibilities in light of the current troubled times and with future trouble in view. #livinghope
Peter wants the church to think rightly about the persecution that is is coming. It is a work of refining -separating the precious from the worthless. #livinghope
Like certain ingredients that can bolster the body’s natural immune system, Peter gives the church instructions on attitudes and actions that can prepare them for the persecution to come. #livinghope
Jesus Christ won absolute victory by submission to God, and His submission is our example. #livinghope

As we close this book, James reminds us once again to be patient as we wait for the coming of the Lord and to pray for one another that we might be a spiritually healthy church. #faiththatworks

Chapter 10 gives us the background for the deliverance of the prophecy and gives us some insight into the spiritual realm that is not seen anywhere else in scripture.
Daniel is given a prophecy of “seventy weeks” that is considered the key to understanding much of what will occur at the end of the age.

As we consider the event of the resurrection of Jesus, we see the different ways that the disciples came to believe.
The Psalmist wrote: “This is the day which the Lord has made” indicating that there was something special, not just about every day, but of a particular day. As we consider Palm Sunday, we will be looking at Psalm 118.
Daniel and his friends give us a great example of faith to follow as they resist the compromise of Babylon. #babylonlife
