Italian based Roberto Clementi returns to Soma with a huge new release, Iridescentia, that explores the tougher edges of Techno whilst still retaining the producers love for deep sound design. Having released with the label over many years, Clementi has evolved his sound and techniques, constantly displaying his talents as a most adept producer.
Atom Splits opens the release with hard, chugging drums, torn apart by roaring and distorted synths. Interstation pulls no punches as yet more twisted, distorted percussion slashes at the heart of the track with saw-like synths buzzing before dissolving in a huge and emphatic ambient landscape. Title track Iridescentia has a more space like feel from the outset but once again, Clementi’s hard hitting percussion drives through. A more euphoric element appears giving light and space to the track before dropping back into tough, hypnotic Techno.

Soma welcome Italian based Roberto Clementi back into the fold with his brand new EP, Dicodon. Several years have passed since his last release and in that time, the experienced Clementi has reminded and toughened his sound. This latest EP takes him in a new musical direction yet remnants of his past still influence these new tracks.
Opening track, Sustainable Planets is an epic opener to say the least. Charging rhythms set the tone before a vast, orchestral string section opens up giving a very melancholic, dystopian feel to the track. Cesar’s Assassin takes things up a notch as fast paced, 4x4 drums lead the way while an ever evolving, punishing lead sears through the base of the track. Title track Dicodon closes out the EP with a more trippy vibe but no less hard hitting than previous. Yet more sturdy percussive elements are at play, creating a dynamic and ferocious rhythm track.

Standout track 'Plebiscite' makes a statement from the first bar with a pounding bassline. It’s a clae peak time heavy-hitter that energizes with its shriek, alarm-like highs and understated yet powerful percussion. Just off the stride of releasing his third studio album, BNJMN puts on his remixer hat to take on the leading track, adding an ethereal dimension through evocative pads and percussive rattles. On the flipside, 'Evocate' skewes dark and minimalist with a simple lead and eerie-laden somber sequences. Simplicity proves itself just as compelling as more complex layering, rendering an overall dance-inducing atmosphere. Acid-laced 'Cription' spells techno in a more experimental, non-kickdrum reliant manner. It’s a refreshing take on the genre in a piece that is reminiscent of early rave days. After a short hiatus, Roberto Clementi return to Soma with the Never Ending Mirage EP. Making his debut on Soma almost 6 years ago, Clementi has wowed with his beautifully crafted, signature dub infused Techno sound - eventually releasing his first full length, N Lights in 2014. He has since been working hard to refine his sound even further and this latest EP has something a bit tougher in store whilst staying true to his sound.
609 opens the release and has Clementi on suitably deep and emotive form. Well crafted drums and percussive elements set the pace as sweeping, ethereal pads create a moving and elegant piece. Title track Never Ending Mirage toughens things up a little but still retains Clementi's immersive aesthetic. Broken beats charge down more cinematic feeling pads and strings, tied together by electrifying synths. Final track Swarms takes a more DJ tool approach - looped out synth hooks evolve and manoeuvre against a backdrop of pulsating rhythmic structures.
